Worth the Money

"I bought this camera last week. I was going between this one and the Sony DCR-SR42. I read several reviews and in the end, I was not convinced that it was worth paying extra money for the Sony. So far I have played with the camera a little and the only thing I have ran into is the video quality in low light situations. But I have played around with some of the manual settings and found one that has improved the quality. I use the auto settings in daylight and well lit situations and the manual in low light.
So far I am very happy with the camera. Downloading to the computer is a breeze. My only advice is to buy the extra battery. The one that comes with the camera goes down quite quickly."

is a pretty good camcorder.. the uploads might be slow for some if you
don't have USB 2.0 on your computer. Also it sometimes goes out of
focus then adjusts in focus a bit.. The nightvision is useless, it lags
horribly when its activated BUT normal recording i'd say beats the daylights
outta the recording function on regular cameras.. I'm satsified with
this product because its a snap to upload a video versus having it on a
mini DVD..."

Finally, easy transfers

"The Good: Lightweight, stylish camera with excellent picture quality and touch screen. Video is recorded onto a 30 GB hard disk, which makes changing tapes or disks a thing of the past. Picture stability is quite good, even zoomed in moderately. Downloading video clips to your computer is MUCH easier than with digital tapes. Simply connect with USB.
The Bad: Menu structure can be difficult to navigate. Battery life is shorter than expected. I recomend carrying a second battery.
Overall extreamly happy with this camcorder."

Great Camera

"We purchased this camera to take video of our new daughter to send to her grandparents and it works great and the pictures are so true. A little dark when there is bad lighting but nothing to complain too much about. Also take video of our son playing football and it turned out amazing, it feels like you are right at the field watching him play. A great buy!!"

"I love this camera, I film a lot of skate videos and snowboarding videos. All I had to do was add a wide angled lense and it works perfect. The image is very steddy and with all the space I need for a full day of riding. It also has a lot of nice effects."

Great Compact Hard Drive Camcorder

"This is a great value for a hard drive camcorder. Just as good as competing recorders which sell for more money. I would recommend using it for mostly video recording, as the picture functionality is not as crisp as a digital camera if you have it on the low def setting for longer recording time. Overall, a great buy for a first video recorder, very easy to use and compact."

"This is a great little camcorder. I like the fact that I don't have to fumble with a disk because it records to the hard drive. I was a little disappointed because it didn't have a light for recording in low light situations, but with the software that's included, you can fix it."

Good camara buy has some disavanteges

"I bought this camera about 2 months ago. Buy the second day it was making a grinding noise. I shut it off for the night next day it recovered its self. (Camera recovers it self if you drop the camera or something happens to it). Its has grate video OUTSIDE inside is pretty much the same works well in low light but the night alive STINKS doesn’t work. Around the house at about 7-8 at night with a few lights makes it so u can see stuff unlike most other cameras i have used. Now time for me to talk abut the pics. THEY ARE TERRIBLE INSIDE or under florescent light. Outside they are amazing. Natural light is what u need for these pics. Over all i am going to try to buy another (if my mom lets me) since they have grate video quality. It also has a good amount of other things like special affects. Having the hard drive makes making movies very simple. Taking video to the comp is also very simple you just have to COPY/EDIT I didn’t no about this until about a week ago. It will send your videos to C:\MyWorks\EVERIOCOPY
this is very important if u like to edit your clips before burning them onto DVDs
PS. it has better pics then my sister’s regular Camera not camcorder."

Easy to use love the Hard Drive

"This cam is so simple to use...! We bought it about four months ago and we love it. We also got the SHARESTATION and can make easy DVD copies of our footage without a PC. It works at the touch of a button.
Also having the Hard Drive is a luxury. No Tapes or discs to worry about. Pick up the cam and we are ready to shoot.
One word of caution. If you are a mac user...as my neigboor is, then you need the next model up....as that one is compatible wiht the mac
Get this cam, you won't regret it....Good Luck!"

"Overall I'm pleased with the camera. The compact size is great and easily fits in any carry bag. The menus are easy to navigate and reviewing video immediately after shooting is great. The only things I would like to change are the incredibly short battery life and low resolution still photos. If you buy this camera make sure to get another battery as the camera drains them fast! Also, plan on carrying another digital camera for your stills, this one is not up to par with most."

"My wife and I bought this camcorder and a new pc when our son was born. Well after recording for several weeks and downloading the software to the pc, I decided to make our movies. Nothing worked. The picture displaying on the dvd was like watching tv back in the 70's when you could be between channels. I am selling this and getting a direct to dvd recorder ( in HD ) I usually go with Sony products - I will from now on.
Oh yeah, I went ahead and bought a dvd recorder to get what I had recorded and it worked, but the picture quality on the highest setting is not good."
