What's great about it: Awesome Camera
What's not so great: So So Software
We got this camera yesterday for Christmas. It is very simple to use. Practically no setup required. The only problem I had was with the file it saves to. It saves using a .mod fil instead of an avi or mpeg. Wthin the software that you download on your computer is a program called Cyberlink Powerdirector. IT is an ease program to trasfer your files from.mod to avi or mpeg mpeg2. Other than that the camera is awesome and I would totally recommend it to anyone who is looking for a nice family camera for trips or everyday use. One more thing, buy asecond battery and keep it charged, the battery it comes with only holds 90 minutes and believe me that dies fast

this camera is very easy to use. better performance than the sony one for like 550.00, it even has a remote and carrying bag and strap.

What's great about it: No tape, high capacity HDD
What's not so great: Poor night lighting
This is my first digital video camera and bought it to replace a much older, but still functional JVC VHSc camcorder. I went with the JVC becasue of my previous experience with this manufacturer and since the price was reasonable compared to features availble on other makers.
One of the best aspects of this camera is its ability to record direct to HDD then a simple click-n-drag from the camera to your PC and you're ready to edit in your favorite DVD authoring sofware.
The software that comes with the model I bought was lacking in certain features, but is enough to get you started. You'll definatly want to explore other suites, especially if you shoot in 16:9.
The camera is easy to use with a modest learning curve.
Right out of the box (after the battery charge of course) I was "taping" the kids and looking forward to getting it onto my computer and then further on to a DVD.
The battery life is somewhat short, but compared to my old camera and the 30min VHSc tapes, the interruption due to low battery has not seemed to be a big deal. Albeit I haven't shot any footage for more than a continuous hour yet.
The model I bought didn't have the 30gig HDD (it has the 20) but even so, it'll hold nearly four hours of video.
The digital still feature of this camera is pretty lame at somewhere around 2 megapix, so don't buy it if this is a mitigating factor for you. Since I have a separate digital still, it is no biggie.
As noted above, this camera faces serious challanges with low light video. If you're intending on doing this, you'll absolutley need supplemental lighting. This is not to say you cannot shoot in low light, but it turns out grainey. I've read elsewhere some tricks to improve this, but have yet to really implement anything beyond making sure my living room lights are on if I shoot indoors at night. The camera has a bright LED for this purpose, but it isn't enough beyond about two feet.
Overall this is a great little camera. It's cool to be able to just grab and shoot (as long as your battery is charged) and never worry about a lack of tape.
The only factor in me assiging 4 instead of 5 stars is the poor low light video quality.

I originally purchased a mini dvd camcorder, after severe aggravation with it I decided to exchange it for a this JVC. WOW I couldn't have made a better decision, its so much easier to use, dont have to worry about losing images, formating etc. The only downfall I have found is that the battery goes dead way too fast.
I haven't tried moving any data into the computer yet, but with the ease of this camcorder I dont see it being a problem.

This is a great camcorder for everyday use! This is our first camcorder, and I don't think we'll ever need another!! Would recommend to any novice for everyday memories! Easily switch to snapshots, which (for 1mp) are quite nice! Dock is great! LOVE IT! A++++

Love this Cam!! Great price for the picture quality. Its very easy to use. The still pictures are awesome. Very durable!! I just throw it in my bag and go. Perfect for sporting events. Small and lightweight enough to take anywhere. I would recommend it to anyone!
At times, the focus is delayed. The front light is not effective except at close distance. The program took a while to figure out and is not for the faint of heart.
Overall, Great Buy!

This is an excellent video camera. The ability to record directly to the camera's hard drive allows for so much recording time, you will never run out! I used mine for months before I had to empty it onto my computer. Getting a good video editing program to make your home DVDs is a must though. I use adobe elements 2.0 and it works great. The quality of the recordings is better than the old video tapes, but it's definately not HD. I'm very happy with it though, and I've had mine for over year now. My only complaint is that it takes me a really long time to make a DVD from my recordings. And, I purchased the extra 2 hr. battery but it seems like my batteries are always going dead too quickly.
Pros: plenty of recording time, decent quality picture
Cons: must take time to make DVD using computer and software, battery life

I recently aquired this camcorder at my local BB. It was the most appealing simply because of its size. Both the offerings from Sony and Panasonic (Panasonic makes this camcorder) were larger. The Panasonic had the best imaging but the shear difference in size more than made up for this to me. I carry around alot of gear when I travel and size matters. I carry around a Olympus Evolt E-500 dSLR, a MacBook Pro, and ocassionally other gear too. So my camcorder needed to be small so that it wouldnt create too much extra clutter. I do enjoy taking video but it is less important to me than stills and this camera fit perfectly with my needs. Very easy to use. Lots of features and it does have Firewire on the dock. My only complaint is the cost of extra batteries, though I am sure they can be found from third parties for reasonable fees.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great picture quality, easy to use. Audio pickup is good. The still pictures are impressive though often times blurred. Very tough! I've dropped it on rock and into a puddle of water and it still works without any problems. Small and lightweight great for hiking and other active sports. Overall a great Camera, I would recommend it to anyone!
Just a couple cons: The focus is delayed and has a hard time pinpointing a singular object. At times it is necessary to use Manual Focus. The front light is not very effective, it's only good up to about ten feet.
I would recommend this to a friend!
