Great Spacemaker Microwave

What's great about it: Easy to set up; good price; efficient
What's not so great: I haven't had it long enough to rate this question.
"It is very nice. It works perfectly. It looks good, too. Plus, I got a good price on this microwave at Best Buy. I set it up to be delivered at my home. It was shipped right away, and I liked the way I could track it online."

Cannot Believe It Died So Young

What's great about it: Fit under cabinet like original builder's microwave.
What's not so great: Died after 1 Year 8 Months
"Just stopped heating. Read it's the magnatron which costs about $140 plus labor and tax and I'm paying for what would be a new microwave. Safe to say this is a low end microwaver, you get what you pay for and GE seems to REALLY want you to have service. I called to cancel after reading the amount it would be exceeding amount of microwave, and I was put through all kinds of sales pitches to keep the appointment. Could it be GE makes more money on REPAIRS so they sell products at lower price points to generate the secondary income?? hmmm Bottom line, no more GE's for me. NOTHING should die under 2 years and the part used to be under warranty for 5 years...GE stopped that last year...I guess they were losing their shirts replacing the garbarge parts. It's a shame."

Broke after 13 months

What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: broken
"After 13 months, right outside of the 12 month warranty the keypad quit working, rendering the microwave competely useless. GE's solution was to call a repairman to fix the keypad. The keypad costs as much as the microwave, none of it was worth the money. It is now a dry storage box."

"Just over one year old, and it stopped heating. Spent $91 on a service call to find out it would cost about $200 to fix. Junk all the way. Stay away from GE products; it is definately my last."

What's great about it: bells and whistle's
What's not so great: the control panel is sthe poorest there is
"We have had ours for just over 16 months, and when the turntable kept moving after it finished cooking, then things go worst, the fan came on and couldn't shut it off, the light came on and couldn't shut it off other than pulling the power cord out and repluging it back in, then you had to reset the clock. Good grief.
I have tried to get an answer but no one has contacted us, and at this point in time, I will not purchase another product again with GE on the label. what a piece of junk."

What's not so great: Bought two of them both quit working in just over one year
"I have purchased this product twice and both quit working about 13 months after purchase that would be one month after warranty was up. the key pad is what went out . this is the biggest piece of junk , I would never recomend to buy this product."

Problems in 6 months

What's great about it: Price
What's not so great: Starts to run when you open the door
"I would think twice about buying this microwave. I went for it because of the GE brand and price. It is six months old and now starts running when you open the door. It is still under the 12 month GE warrantee and they are sending someone out it 4 days to look at it. They said they would either replace it or fix it, we'll see. If I had to guess they will fix it and then the problem will resurface after the warrantee expires. :("

What's great about it: worked great for 1.5 years then completely went out
What's not so great: Less than 2 years of use and just went out, not cost effective to repair, too short a warranty.
"Only 1 year warranty. Manufacturer offered no assistance in repair or replace and not cost effective to repair. Sad that manufacturers are not required to provide better warranties for their products. Spent about $250 for it 2 years ago, now faced with spending another $250-$300. It won't be a GE product in any form!"

Adequate for our needs

What's great about it: It has worked efficiently for about two years. It was built Dec. 2006.
What's not so great: Tonight the fan wouldn't turn off. Last week, it burned something at a low heat.
"As microwaves go, it has served well for about two years. It had a limited warranty for 1 year. Now it has suddenly given us a couple of problems. The fan will not turn off, although it indicates it is off. It burned something last week at a low heat that we regularly use on our tea with milk. I would give it a fair rating, as I expect a product such as this to be problem free for more than two years. I purchased it at Best Buy."

Good Microwave for the Money

What's great about it: Inexpensive, has all the features we wanted
What's not so great: Construction seems a bit flimsy, no charcoal filter
"Our family of 5 has trouble living without a microwave, but the higher quality units are well out of our reach at this time. This inexpensive over-the-range microwave has all the features we wanted, like the rotating tray, 1 touch cooking, and child lock-out feature, at a price we could afford. It was very easy to install ourselves. We have not had any trouble with it these since we installed it 3 weeks ago. However, it doesn't sit as securely to the wall as I would like, and the door construction feels flimsy in my hand. The charcoal filter doesn't come with the unit; GE charges an extra $22+ bucks for it.
All in all, I would recommend it to someone with tight finances, but it you have more money to spend, upgrade."

What's great about it: This unit has many of the features of more expensive models. A great buy, easy to install and easy to use.
What's not so great: Installation directions could be better written.
"This microwave is a great buy for sure, but that doesn't mean it hasn't got great style and lots of features. I like the fact that it has a turntable (can easily be turned on and off) as well as an additional cooking shelf."

Great Product for the Money

What's great about it: Easy to use. Easy installation. Even heat distribution.
What's not so great: Fan is loud.
"This purchase was a surprise for my wife and she loves it. The microwave is very simple to use, even my eight year old can cook anything he wants to in it. The unit is lightweight and easy to install. It is large enough that it will of course require 2 people to install. We are very happy with the purchase."

What's not so great: Loud exhaust fan.
"The install was a little more difficult since we had to drill through a tile backsplash. Besides that factor installation was a breeze.
Every aspect works fine but the exhaust fan is a little on the loud side. We are hoping that it will go down with some use..."

Great Replacement

What's great about it: Nice features - Price - Ease of Installation
What's not so great: None noticed yet
"I purchased this as a replacement for my GE Spacemaker Model JVM1542 which took a dump on New Years Day.
That one performed fine for the 4 years I had it, so I was comfortable sticking with the same brand, with similar features.
Once I got it home and unboxed, I was pleased to find that all the neccessary mounting needs were the same as my last one, so no drilling was needed! But speaking from experience, if you have SOME mechanical aptitude, and some decent tools, you can install this yourself with ease, without any problem.
I've read on other sites the reviews for this one that stated the fan was too noisy, but I noticed nothing of the sort. Maybe I was just used to my other one, I'm not sure.
Some features that I like over my last one, when my food is done if I don't get to it right away instead of the annoying BEEP BEEP BEEP every minute, this one has a subtle single beep. The light under the unit itself lights the stove up MUCH better, which is nice because you will loose some lighting from your overhead light to the stove(at least I did). Everything else seems about the same so far."
