Purchased this micro less than 2 years ago. Just stopped heating up for no reason, called a repair person and was told it would cost just as must to purchase a new one. Like another reviewer i alread equipt our new kitchen with stainless GE products. Won't purchase anymore of their products unless they replace it, which ive been on hold waiting for a costomer service person for 25 mins so far

This microwave lasted only 18 months. Would not recommend purchasing this microwave or any other GE product. Very disappointing. The GE stove we bought along with this microwave is also broke. The broiler stopped working.
What's not so great: short life

The oven seems to be operating as anyone would expect a microwave to, but there are some annoying quirks about it that didn't exist in the last GE model oven we had.
The Good:
--Easy to install
--Oven is relatively quiet (excluding the exhaust)
--Works well
The Bad:
--The exhaust fan is EXTREMELY loud. And it only has 2 speeds, low and high. A medium would have been nice.
--The door is hard to shut. Most oven doors shut with a light close. This one takes some force, and I find it swinging back out toward my face all the time.
--The range light is very dim. Even on high it's only as bright as the "night" setting on our last GE oven.
The Good:

We were in the market for an over the stove microwave/vent, but were not ready to purchase one. Turns out, the vent was required for C.O. and we had to get it. I was happy to see that Best Buy had a smaller 1.5Cu. ft. unit at a much more affordable price. It's wonderful to have and a must for limited counter space.
What's great about it: Easy to use, saves space.
What's not so great: Vented outside, it is very loud.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This has been such a wonderful microwave. The microwave that was over our stove went out, and we replaced it with this GE/Stainless, and it was the best choice for our entire family! It has many great features that you would normally only get from a higher end model. Great product at an even Greater price!
What's great about it: Great price, Great product - many features!
What's not so great: not one thing could I say is NOT so great about it...haven't found it yet!

This unit has the exterior appearance of microwaves which cost triple what we paid (under $300 with taxes). The stainless design is modern and the key pad is simple and easy to use - it's not a mass of buttons like on some other microwaves. This is not a high output oven and does not have the convection feature, but it serves our purposes just fine. We have one minor gripe, and that's the positioning of the light underneath. Instead of being located in the center, it's all the way to the rear where it illuminates the wall instead of the range top cooking area. We noticed that models from several other manufacturers have the same design.
What's great about it: Exterior design, stainless, easy read pad, price
What's not so great: Positioning of range light, low wattage
I would recommend this to a friend!

Purchase a GE Profile Microwave Oven/Hood for a kitchen remodel. The oven was professionally installed on 7/3/2009. Came home on 9/2/10, 14 months later and the oven was beeping. Touch pad was readying, (Service may be required - control Pad Shorted Out) found it interesting that the the product diagnosed itself. Anyway, don't believe in extended warranties. When I purchase an appliance, I would expect it to last at least 5 years. 10 years would be the expected life expectancy. Unfortunately they don't make appliances like that use too. I am very disappointed, NO MORE G.E. for me. Unfortunately this oven was purchased during a kitchen remodel, purchase 3 other GE appliances. Fingers crossed they last longer than a year.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I wanted everyone to know that I really enjoy my new GE Stainless Steel Microwave. All the "Review's" I read were all pretty bad and I want everyone to know that I really like mine. It was extreemly easy to put up. I like how quiet it is and efficient. The only thing I would of liked to improve it would be to have the light more towards the front of the microwave. It will definitely be harder to change the light bulb when I have to do that. Other than that -- it's great!
What's great about it: The look and how quiet it is when heating food. It was easy to put up.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I didn’t understand all the negative reviews until I got it home. It’s a great style, the display is good, it has the turntable on/off option, has the steel rack for stacking, it has a very bright light compared to the others in the under $250 range, and the fan was a little loud but not too bad as others had written and it doesn’t stay on like others had said. Installation was easy, this was the second over the range I have installed. I chose not to wait for a friend to help me, due to either my lack of patience or just my excitement to have a new microwave, and mounted it myself with no problem. It’s a little awkward and I recommend two people but alone is feasible. I turned on the fan and it was loud. There isn’t much of a discernible difference between high and low either. They are both loud, louder than it seemed in the store even though there is much more noise in that environment. Also, the light was not nearly as bright as in the store. Then I discovered there was only one light bulb on this one when the display had 2 bulbs, and the light output still was not as bright per bulb. I went back to the store and discovered the model # was slightly different. My receipt stated model JVM1540SNSS, the store display had a mfg tag of JVM1540SN1SS (notice the 1) and my mfg tag had JVM1540SPSS (notice the P). Either way, it was different than the display model. Just be aware that what you’re getting isn’t necessarily EXACTLY as displayed. GE took out one light bulb, possibly changed the fan and who knows what else. If you don’t mind the noise or the dim light, it’s nice, however I have no long term info or cooking quality reviews. I was aggravated about this so I went back and bought the Whirlpool WHM1163XVS; no rack or turntable off button, but it has great reviews, it’s quiet and has a real high and low fan. Plus you can program the light to turn on/off at certain times.
What's great about it: style, display, turntable on/off, steel rack
What's not so great: loud fan and the light was dimmer than expected

This is my first over the range microwave and I love it. It's large, easy to operate and I especially like the extra rack inside and the turntable on/off feature. You won't go wrong with this one.

This product has been broken since we took it out of the box and plugged it in. The internal fan turned on when we plugged it in for the first time and never turns off so I have to keep it unplugged except when it needs to be used. The turntable was also broken when it arrived. We have had GE Service out here twice to fix it and it still doesn't work properly after replacing the motherboard. My last microwave lasted 12 years and was only replaced so it would match my new range and dishwasher. Now I miss my old one all the time.
DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK!!!
What's not so great: internal fan malfunctions all the time

Well we bought 2 ge appliances when we upgraded our kitchen - not happy w/the product - will never guy ge again. Cost to fix versus cost to replace about the same. Will get frigidaire brand which has held up well for us - we replaced our refrig and microwave w/GE - waiting on the refrig to die now... bought frigidaire brand on new oven & dishwasher - they are 6 months older and have held up very well - very pleased w/them. My previous microwave I bought from Wal-mart 15 years ago worked fine - sad isn't it you DON'T GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR with GE brands...... Sad just sad... Buy another brand!!
What's great about it: well it was great until it died
What's not so great: the fact that the mother board went out 1 mo over warranty $180 part + labor

At 27 months old I have lost 8 of the touch pads, some of which are dearly missed. It all started just after warranty ran out. GE says to see a repairman. Probably cost more to fix. I feel it should've lasted at least 5 years or more. That's not quality in my book. Will definitly but another brand next time around, thanks for the help GE.
What's great about it: ease of mounting
What's not so great: GE's willingness to backup their product

Good microwave with all the standard features, but the noise of the fan makes it impossible to recommend. The fan runs whenever it is in use and cannot be turned off. The fan even kicks on when the range is used below and will stay on for a long time if you have cooked under the microwave.
What's great about it: Does everything you would want a microwave to do...
What's not so great: ...Except run quietly

We just purchased this microwave and without thinking it though, I installed it before turning it on to test it out. When I did turn it on I was shocked at how loud the fan was which suprised me because my old GE microwave (which is almost identical) was very quiet. Our house has an open design and the microwave can be heard throughout the house. It is going back to the store tommorow!
Quiet is a relative term so if you are thinking about purchasing this microwave I stongly suggest you make them turn it on for you before you purchase it to hear it for yourself. Pehaps your old microwave sounds like a lawn mower and if that is the case you may love this one.
What's great about it: Beautiful, Low cost.
What's not so great: LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
