What's great about it: the price
"i had a high end dvd recorder that was starting to not play some of my backed up dvds so i just needed a dvd player that would play all types of disks ... this model plays about all the types available ... the unit is small and clean looking and for the price has great quality ... the only bad thing i can see with this and im not sure if its for all the New models is that it doesnt have coax cable lines just rca and component which i have any way so i just had to plug it in and press the on button"

What's great about it: quality and price
"This is a great DVD player for the price, I was replacing an older player that I have had for years and this one seemed to improve the quality and had much more options. But what can I say its Sony and they havent let me down yet."

What's great about it: Great Price for regular DVD Player
What's not so great: None
"This is a great DVD player if you are not looking for Blu-Ray and looking for a great price. Pay the $10-$20 more for a DVD Player that will not die in the first week. This was a second DVD Player used for Homeschooling. It runs for 6-8 hours a day, 5 days a week and there have been NO problems. Great DVD Player for a Great Price."

"Was looking for a 2nd DVD player for the kids TV, and chose this one. However, when I tried it out on my main LCD HDTV, the regular DVD's looked better than my existing DVD player. I didn't want to move it to the kids TV it was so suprisingly good, but I should expect that from Sony."

What's great about it: quiet function, great picture quality!
"This player is the quietest I've ever played with. I love it! Picture quality is nice and sound is flawless. I wished the buttons on the controller would be slightly bigger, but then again this is nothing earth shattering."

"A standard DVD player, for a great price. I bought this because my room needed one, and we just wanted something simple, good, and cheap. It plays the dvd's I bought and has good picture quality. Really simple to use, and comes in silver or black."

Not worth the money

What's great about it: Good picture, low price
What's not so great: Only worked for a week
"I bought this model because I thought the Sony brand would be a better product and would last longer than the last dvd player I bought which lasted two years. Unfortunately, this one wouldn't read any of our store bought discs after one week of use. When a disc is loaded it says "cannot play disc" after trying to load for several minutes. I didn't try any other sort of discs, since if it wouldn't play commercially produced ones, I doubt it would play any others. I would recommend another player."

"You can't go wrong with this player at this price. It was so easy to set up that I thought I did something wrong. the picture is clear and the sound quality is good. Even if it only lasts a couple of years, I'll feel like I got my moneys worth."

"When my old DVD player broke (some cheap model), I ran to Best Buy to get a replacement. I wanted a Sony again. I had one years ago (but foolishly got rid of it when I moved in with someone who already had a player). I was thrilled to see that this came down in price. I immediately bought it, took it home, & had it set up within minutes (and I'm BAD with electronics!). I love the model-- it's slim & lightweight. The remote & menu options are attractive easy to use, too. As mentioned earlier, I'm not so tech savvy & therefore don't know much about HD, Blu-ray, etc. But I don't really have a concern for those. I just wanted a basic player, from a top manufacturer, at a good price... and this is it. It's incredibly easy to operate & the picture always looks great. I haven't had any trouble loading discs, but then again, I only play DVDs from manufacturers (not burned discs or DVD-R's or anything). I'm very happy with this player. It's probably the best you can get for the price. And based on my last Sony DVD player, this should last me a long time... I won't be giving it away any time soon!"

What's great about it: No troubles with it, upscales decent with component cables
What's not so great: Obviously not hd
"Great DVD Player, no troubles with it whatsoever. Slim, nice looking and looks pretty good with component cables hooked up, better than standard av cables. Really like it, but would still rather have a blu ray... Who doesn't. Bought it before I got a new TV, but still looks good"

"I bought this machine due to the low price and high ratings. I noticed that some people said it had a defect in that disks would freeze. However, most said they had not experienced it. Unfortunately for me, I was one of the unlucky ones. Out of 6 disks I tried, three of them froze. The machine is defective - DO NOT BUY IT."

What's not so great: Will not play many DVD +- R
"If you are just going to play store bought/rented movies then this is a nice little unit. If you are going to play any DVD +- R/RW then prepare yourself for a lot of frustration. All DVD +- R/RW take forever to load and half won't load with errors like "disc dirty", "no audio/video". Every DVD +- R/RW that would not load in this unit when place it in my other DVD player played perfectly."

"I got this dvd player last night and it is fantastic.It took me 30 seconds to get it hooked up and it was ready to go.Very nice slim design and not that bulky so you can put it almost anywhere.Im very pleased."

"For someone looking for a long-lasting, dependable DVD player at a low price, this one is for you. I recently bought my second after an older model finally kicked the bucket after many years of use. We watch DVDs in my household more than TV, so it wasn't surprising to me when the old one started skipping after many years of use. It doesn't have a lot of "bells and whistles," but I don't need 'em - just a unit that won't screw up my DVDs! Before age caught up with it, the old one NEVER skipped. Ever. (Unlike other DVD players I've owned.) It shows how much the Best Buy employees know about their products - I bought the first one after asking at the store for something that wouldn't skip. Bought the new one online at Best Buy, the price was within a buck or two of other online box stores."
