What's not so great: They have to ship certain spare parts from Korea.

"Our control board needs replacement and the technician had to order the part from Korea. We've been waiting 8 days already, and it still has not arrived. While the washer performs well, I'll never buy another LG appliance due to them not having a location in the US that can supply repair parts."

What's great about it: Quiet, works well, excellent selection of settings
What's not so great: It does have longer cycles, but it's energy efficient and clothes come out great

"I bought this with the matching 2016 dryer (see review) which I stacked with the LG stacking kit. Fit and finish is great. It runs very quietly. Clothes are coming out clean and 3 times dryer than in my top loader. The settings cover a huge range. Wish the door could be switched to open on the other side, but that's a minor issue. If the reliability is anything like the performance, can't be beat at anywhere near the pricepoint."

What's great about it: Easy to use, cleans well, good value especially for a front loader
What's not so great: a little thin on quality

"This is my first LG anything (except cell phone). It was relatively easy to set up. Pay special attention to the instructions. I have seen some reviews that complain about the shaking and vibration. When I first set it up, it shook like crazy and walked all over the laundry room. We have a tiled floor. I was very bummed over this and was ready to return it, when I noticed I had not removed the "shipping bolts". I removed them, ran a load and adjusted the legs during the spin cycle. Voila! No more shake. I loaded it up with towels and ran it on the Cotton/Towel setting which uses the high speed spin. No shake. Works perfect. I was VERY happy after that! If you bought one of these, be sure to remove those bolts!"

What's great about it: big size, good price ($630)
What's not so great: long wash cycle, have to leave door open/wipe down after each wash

"first front load washer. was debating between the whirlpool duet sport and the samsung. ended up with the lg since previous washer was whirlpool and there were mixed reviews with the duet sport. also the duet sport is a tad smaller. the samsung also seems to be good choice, and is bigger. however, this was cheaper at the time. have had this washer for 1 month. gets clothes clean. can do big load. am using regular detergent (still have one jug left) just use less (i use about half cup). need to drain water from hose after each wash. cycles are longer than displayed (example: perm press with high spin cycle=55mins, but it actually takes about hr 10mins, since i think the time for adding water and draining water arent included). vibration is minimal, not any worse than my old toploader. i also have the lg dryer and is stacked on top.

also front load washers use small amount of water compared to top load washers. So the lg washer comes with "water plus" option button, and ive used it and feel that its just the right amount of water with "water plus" selected.

something that im concerned with is that there is still water in the dispenser. it is not exactly what i would call a small amount. anyone else has this?

What's great about it: Great price and easy for a non-laundry doing man to use.
What's not so great: High speed spin shakes a lot, but medium spin works just as good without the shaking.

"I'm glad my wife talked me into this machine. It is definitely worth the money. We do leave the door open when not in use, we read in reviews it can get a mildewy smell. No issues at all in the three + months we have owned this washer. We like it so much we also bought the matching dryer."

What's great about it: Simply NOTHING
What's not so great: Vibrates the entire house and LG insists it is the flooring even though we have had this in two different homes.

"DO NOT buy this LG washer if you plan to put this on a wood or tile floor. We have had 2 different machines. LG replaced the first machine but the second machine does the same thing! This LG model vibrates so bad that the entire house shakes! After more than 1 year, we are finally trading this "shaker" for a different brand. No thanks to LG! LG is VERY difficult to deal with and at times down right rude. I have NEVER spent so much time, energy and money trying to take care of an appliance under warranty! NO one in our local vicinity even works on LG equipment except for one dealer who is the RUDEST serviceman I have ever met! LG must be having a lot of problems with this model since an independent company is making rubber cups to fix the vibration problem at a cost to the customer of around $20.00. Guess what? They DON"T fix the vibration!!!!! Since LG INSISTS that it is not the appliance but is the floor of the house (even though it has been in two different houses with the same issues) I will NEVER purchase anything LG makes again."

What's great about it: Got it on sale so price was right, very very quiet, laundry very clean
What's not so great: have to leave the door open or will smell

"This washer is excellent. I haven't had any problems using it, It is super easy to use and so quiet. This replaced my maytag top loader which died after only 5 years and gave me nothing but problems from the start. LG seems to be an excellent value and I will probably stick with LG from now on. Now several of my family members are contemplating getting one too. Excellent buy."

"Purchased this to replace my old top loader. The machine works great, has lots of extra room for the bigger loads and is quiet. Obviously I recommend anyone buy the extra warranties for these machines as I don't think any are expected to go long without breaking or having issues with the digital menus but so far this is working very well.

We do a lot of laundry and it cut the loads from 5 or 6 down to 2, and saves us on a of time. Definately a good purchase.

What's great about it: Easy to use, quiet and great quality. Works like a fine watch.
What's not so great: Nothing to complain about yet!

"OK, now I'm a guy so I don't usually get excited about appliances unless it's a 50inch Plasma TV or something. But I got to say I really, really like this washer.

It's nice looking, quiet, easy to learn, I didn't even read the manual. But I did look at the reviews and I did take some of the lessons I read here to heart.

I'm using this on a back porch that was upgraded to a reading room, which I've converted to a laundry room. But it's a fairly flimsy floor as far as floors go and I was worried about the vibration/crawl issue I've read about. Plus it was more than a mild incline from the wall out to the center of the floor.

So what i did was get a 3/4 inch thick sheet of plywood and used long deck screws to anchor it close to the wall in back. Then used wood shims to level it. I drilled holes through the plywood to the shims so they wouldn't move with the vibration and put deck screws though those too. Then I covered the platform in black rubber mat.

Put the washer on that and made sure I had the legs over the spots where the shims were...works like a charm. Ran it on High spin speed and then Super high Speed and although you sense the vibration in the floor it didn't move at all.

I was prepared to take 50 lb picture wire and anchor each foot to an eye bolt at each corner, and I may still do that, but it's probably not necessary.

Clothes come out slightly damp and the dryer that matches this is great too!

What's great about it: Easy to use, great cleaning, great capacity.
What's not so great: Built in heater would be nice, vibration could be an issue.

"If you haven't made the jump to high efficiency laundry, this would be a great unit to consider. As long as you don't need a steam feature or a sanitary cycle, I believe this unit to be the best value out there.

My experience thus far has been very positive. My queen size comforter fits easily and cleans beautifully. Also, my dogs bed fits great and cleans up very well on the hand wash cycle. Drying time is also cut down because the unit has a high spin speed.

Just remember to carefully level the unit when it is being installed. LGs have a tendency to shake if they are perfectly balanced. I purchased some anti-vibration pads to put under the feet just in case.

Overall if you want a quality washer with a great factory warranty (10 years on direct drive motor) then I highly recommend this unit.

Outstanding machine; Excellent value   03/19/2009
By HinTX from TX

What's great about it: Easy to use; Efficient; Quiet; Affordable
What's not so great: Requires care to prevent mold/mildew

"We purchased this machine based on the overall reviews here and on other sites as well as the high ratings on some consumer reporting sites. Also, it was the most affordable machine in our price range. We knew we wanted a front-loader: I used to live in Europe and I missed the workhorse of a Bosch machine I had there. I was already aware that front-loaders are more prone to mildew, but with regular cleaning and good air circulation, I don't think this will be a problem for us. The benefits of a front-loader far outweigh the effort required to prevent mildew. This model uses very little water and gets everything clean with very little wear to the fabric. (I should say though that we don't ever have heavily soiled laundry, so our needs are moderate.) Very pleasant electronic beep, extremely quiet operation. We have our unit on a tile floor and have had absolutely no noise/vibration problems, even when using the highest spin cycles.

All in all, a fantastic machine at a great price that works very well for those with normal/light laundry needs.

What's not so great: Some Cleaning Required, Once Started You Can't Open It, Seal Around Door, Door Must Be Left Open To Dry

"In all honesty I purchased this washer because I wanted to conserve water, I still haven't noticed a change in our water usage, but more about our water company then this washer. Great washer, you do have to do some prevenative things, like cleaning and draining, but still well worth the money. I have always left the door open after use, so that the seal has a chance to dry. This all in all was the best purchase I have made in a long time. LG is great."

What's great about it: Everything
What's not so great: Nothing

"I just purchased this machine. This is my first front loader and I am very impressed with everything so far. It uses much less water. Clothes come out much cleaner than with my top loader. The time factor is longer with this machine however because of the fact that the spin cycle takes much of the water out of the clothes the drying cycle is much shorter making total time about the same. I'm glad I read the reviews on this machine which made my purchasing decision much easier."

What's great about it: Washes exceptionally well

"I bought this machine one month ago and can't believe I waited so long to change from a top loader to a front loader. The LG is getting my clothes cleaner and spinning them so dry that the time in the dryer is reduced by about 30%. The wash cycle is longer than my old top loader, but with the reduced drying time, it ends up being about the same for an entire load to wash and dry. With the water and energy rebates, the machine cost about the same as a good quality top loader."

This is NOT the hose that came with this washer. It new aftermarket hose I purchased at Lowes because I needed more length.
User submitted photo
What's great about it: Many customizable features.
What's not so great: One of the plastic lock nuts stripped easily.

"First, it's worth noting that to get the most out of this or any front loading washer, it needs to installed on a very solid floor. I live in an apartment. The building is very old and the laundry room in my apartment has soft linoleum on top of a very old, creaky wood floor. No matter how close to perfectly level the washer is, if your floor vibrates as easily as mine does, you won't be able to use the super fast spin speeds this washer is capable of. It's nice to have five different spin options, but I can't use the speeds above medium on my floor. Medium speed on this washer, however, still spins plenty of water out of my laundry (at least as much as my old washer did). The clothes do not come out soaking wet, but I don't benefit from the reduction in drying time that the faster spin speeds achieve. This is certainly not a problem with the washer, but is definitely something to consider for anyone who may have weaker floors.

Another problem I ran into was with the water supply hoses. USE THE WATER SUPPLY HOSES THAT COME WITH THE WASHER. The laundry room in my apartment is awkwardly laid out, and the water hookups are pretty far away from where the washer should go. I purchased a new pair of supply hoses at Lowe's that were about a foot longer than the hoses supplied with the washer, allowing me to place the washer where it's designed to fit in my laundry room (The supplied hoses were about six inches too short for my hookup location.). I don't know if the hoses that come with the washer have a higher pressure rating or what, but I had my aftermarket hot water hose rupture right behind where it attaches to the washer (I will try to include a picture of the ruptured hose). When this washer fills, it fills in a series of very short, quick bursts. If you feel the hose right behind where it connects to the washer, you can feel a surge in the hose each time it does this. My water temperature and pressure are set well within the limits in the owner's manual. Maybe the hose I purchased at Lowe's was defective, but I have since switced to the hose supplied with the washer. I had to relocate the position of my washer by about a foot, but I have not had a problem with the hose since switching to the one supplied. This, again, is not a problem related to the washer itself. I'm just sharing this experience for anyone considering using different hoses. When it comes time for me to replace the hoses, I will definitely look for ones that appear to match the supplied hoses more closely (quality, length, material makeup, etc.)

The only problem I had which can be directly related to the washer itself, was with the lock nuts used for leveling. They are made of plastic. Since I have the issue of a vibrating floor, I made sure once I had the washer level, that I really tightened up those lock nuts. Well, I stripped the threads out of one while turning it with my hand. It actually stripped quite easily. I did not use any sort of a wrench or other tool to tighten the lock nuts. I ended up buying some M10x1.25 hex nuts to place between the feet and the plastic lock nuts. The plastic lock nuts are still there, and are still making the contact with the washer itself, with the metal hex nuts snugged up underneath them. The adjustable feet are now definitely locked in place, and I don't have to rely on just the plastic threads of the supplied lock nuts.

Now...for the actual review. I really am quite happy with the performance of this washer. For the price, you couldn't ask for more options. 5 regular wash cycles, 5 different temperature settings, 5 different soil levels to pick from... Plus, the option of a pre-wash cycle, quick cycle, tub clean, etc. There is also a second rinse option, and an option to add extra water. It also has a countdown timer on display from the beginning of the wash until the end of the spin. It also has a pause button you can press at any time to change settings in the middle of a cycle. These features are definitely more than enough for me. Some of the features of more expensive washers (steam cleaning, etc.), aren't features I think I'll ever be interested in. For the price, the number of customizable features on this washer is excellent. Some features of this washer that I don't rely on, are the beeper, and the child lock. The beeper has 3 settings; off, low, and high. If I'm close by, I can hear it, but if I'm more than one room away and have the dryer running also, I don't notice it when it goes off.

About the Child Lock... I have two toddlers, and while I don't plan on them really spending much time around the washer, I still set the child lock. When I first got the washer, naturally they were interested in what I was doing, and found the front loader to be way more "interesting" than the top loader...and the buttons are right on the front and very reachable for a toddler. To test the child lock, I set it, and tried to change some settings. It worked great. When the "CL" is displayed, indicating that the child lock is engaged, you can't change the settings on the washer. So... While I was watching my son stare at the new washer as it was doing its first load of laundry, I didn't think much of it when he started pressing buttons. I actually thought it was a good, real-life test of the child lock and I was quite pleased with it...until he pressed the power button. The power button is not protected by the child lock. He pushed it, and right in the middle of a rinse cycle, it shut down completely. He then turned it right back on with another push of the putton. I had hoped it would resume, but it didn't. It just sits there waiting for you to start it all over again. Of course, I was able to set it to do just a rinse/spin cycle... but it definitely won't pick up where it left off if your child happens to turn it off. :-) It’s also worth mentioning that if it is shut off with the child lock engaged, and turned back on, the child lock is no longer engaged when it comes back on. The door unlocks, and all features are unlocked for your child to access. So... I consider the child lock to be pretty useless.

About detergent.... I read some reviews before purchasing this washer, where some people said they don't bother using the High Effeciency detergent. When I went to buy detergent, I didn't notice any difference in the price per load between the regular detergent and the HE detergent, so I bought the HE. My reason for writing this section, is for anyone who plans to use the prewash option on this washer, you will need powdered detergent for the main wash cycle. I know some washers will allow for the use of liquid detergents for all cycles, but this one doesn't do anything to keep liquid detergents from running immediately into the wash tub. Water flushes through each compartment at the appropriate time in the cycle, but if you don't use powdered detergent in the main compartment (which doesn't flow immediately, but rather, sits there and waits for the water to flush it in), when it comes time for the main wash cycle, there won't be any detergent there. It will have run in at the same time as the prewash detergent. Of course, when you don't use the prewash option, liquid detergent iis perfectly fine, since it's going to end up in the wash tub immediately anyway. I don't use the prewash cycle regularly, but if you plan to use it at all, make sure you have some powdered HE detergent on hand also.

Thanks for reading my review. I hope some of the information was helpful.

What's great about it: It cleans clothes and isn't too loud.
What's not so great: It doesn't fit very well in the laundry closet.

"I hesitated to purchase this washing machine because I was warned about the vibration by sales persons. Certainly, it vibrates a little for the fast spinning cycles. However, the noise is minimal, and the machine is not hopping around as I was warned. It doesn't sound like a helicopter as I was warned. I highly recommend this product because of the price and effective cleaning. The higher priced models have more bells and whistles but don't do the job any better."

What's great about it: Everything!
What's not so great: Nothing

"My Fiance and I bought this to replace a 6 year old top load GE washer it was taking 5 - 6 HOURS to do one load of laundry. set up was very easy. Basically plug and go. We had it up and running in a matter or minutes. I love how you can fit so much into that small amount of space. What used to take multiple hours now takes about one hour. My fiance works construction and comes home with clothes dirtier than you would ever imagine. This machine took a shirt that left the house white came home almost black, back to white again. And I didn't even wash it alone. It had all his other filthy clothes in with it as well. Gets 90% of the stains that our 8 year old daughter comes home from school with out of her clothes. I generally don't pre-treat. The clothes are practically dry when they come out of the washer. My electric bill went down by 60 dollars in this first month!!!!!!! All in all I LOVE THIS WASHER!!!!"

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Broke before first load was completed

"We bought a LG washing machine on a Saturday and had it delivered the following Monday. The machine stopped working before the first cycle even completed. I called LG and told them that the machine is dead, the display won't light up and it is full of water. They said they would send someone out on Wednesday so I had to miss a day of work and wait for the repairman. He showed up late and after looking at the machine he determined it was the mainboard. He did not have one with him and would have to order one which would not come in till the end of the week and he would have to come back the following Tuesday which meant we would have to go a full week with no washer. When I spoke to LG customer service they seemed very indifferent about my situation and offered nothing in the way of trying to satisfy me. When i asked for a supervisor she was no different and did not feel that LG needed to make any sort of a gesture to appease me. I am having Best Buy pick it back up and I will NEVER purchase another LG product again."

What's not so great: Not a thing!

"Very user friendly and GREAT quality! I was so excited when we finally had our new LG washer and dryer delivered! I have yet to find anything adverse about these appliances. I can't wait to see how much our power bill goes down!"
