Best Bang For Your Buck 02/14/2008

What's great about it: picture quality, 3 HDMI inputs,

"I have had this tv for well over a month and cannot say anything bad about it. As an 18 year old college student who commutes to school, i want my room to be as luxurious as it can get. This tv brings life to my room, and life to me as well. I did alot of research before i bought this tv, as it has proved to be one of the biggest investments i have made so far in life. So far it has not let me down. The picture quality is crazy, anything in high definition looks astonishing. Three HDMI inputs are plenty to set up just about anything you want to it. With a name like Samsung, i knew it had to be a great tv, and so far it has not let me down. I feel that I definitely got the best bang for my buck buying this tv versus any other more expensive 40 inch television on the market."

i couldn't believe what i was watching 02/13/2008

What's great about it: size, price on sale, contrast ratio, way it looks
What's not so great: one movie i saw was a little grainy at points

"so, i took my time researching tvs and was looking thru every make, brand, and model....now im in college and i don't have loads of money so i was looking for something semi-cheap, but i still wanted bang for my buck...so first i went to best buy and just looked at tvs, samsung's by far (to me at least) had the best looking pictures and pretty much all of them were crystal clear...it also helps that most of the contrast ratios are quite high, so then i started looking for tvs that would fit into my price range and saw this on sale for $1300 and was like no way, let me check the specs.... so i did and saw the size was nice looks really sleek and nice, matches the PS3 i got for christmas, and everything was just awesome specs wise, so i checked it out in the store and liked what i saw....im def glad i bought it cuz the blu ray discs look ridiculous like almost cartoonish but in an awesome way, the sound is pretty nice too if u put the built in surround sound feature on in the menu...the only drawback that i have seen so far, and its kind of minor is as i was watching "night at the museum" some parts looked grainy, like greens and reds sometimes, but other than that i would def recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a great tv at a nice price"

One of the best LCD TVs 02/13/2008

What's great about it: Not heavy, classy design, true black picture

"After researching for good LCD TVs in today's market, I came down to Sony V2500 and Samsung 4061. Both of the brand offered about the same price and capability (1080p); Both of the TVs received one of the highest reviews from CNET.com. The choice was clear when I was standing in front of the TVs that happened to be displayed side by side. Samsung was presenting darker and truer black and overall picture quality was easily visible compare to Sony. Also, the sale rep clearly favored Samsung over Sony and the advise and deal from an expert gave me assurance to purchase Samsung. I now had the TV for about a month and I am satisfied with my choice. The HD DVDs look amazing and the sounds pretty good without any additional speakers. I knew Samsung was getting better but when did they surpass Sony and Sharp? I am simply surprised by very easiy detected picture quality that Samsung displays in showrooms. Before you buy, just go to any store and Comapre the TVs and you don't have to be an expert to notice the difference. Plus, you will still save some money too!"

AWSOME PRODUCT 02/13/2008

What's not so great: The only thing i can think of is the Universal Remote that came with the tv didn't work well with my cable box

"Got this tv on one of the online sales best TV for the price. Awsome picture quality no ghosting or works awsome for video games or movies. Alot of options for configuring the TV to your liking but not to many that may confuse the average user. 3 HDMI ports seems that everything that you want in HD can hook up with an HDMI cable leaving all your video and sound coming into your tv through one connection definate plus. The only thing that i really didnt like was the universal remote that came with the tv lacked buttons for using with a cable box such as guide......so i just used the remote that came with the cable box for the tv...not really a big deal. Overall Awsome TV if i wanted another or was going to recomend a TV to someone this would be the one of choice."

"I bought this unit after reviewing 40-42" Plasma and LCD models for several months. As I was coming from a 27" tube set, my expectations were reasonable. The ease of setup, the availability of different type connections were amazing. The picture far exceeds any expectation I ever had and a month later I upgraded my service to HDTV. I have referred the Samsung to several friends who were considering other units."

"for the money, and for cabinet size requirements, this TV was perfect for my use; the base swivels and allows easier access to the back of the TV; the outer measurements allowed me to go with a 40" TV when I thought I would have to settle for a 37""

"The Samsung 40" TV is the best purchase I ever made other than my home. The clarity and HD quality is amazing. It has a built in HD tuner which is nice, and has several HDMI ports. The TV is light and works well with both well light and poorly lit rooms due to the easy brightness adjustment. I love this TV and the Best Buy sales staff was so helpful and knowledgeable. If you ever need assistance ask someone at Best Buy, they know there stuff. I recommend this TV to everyone I know and tell them to get it at Best Buy."

"After having our HD slimfit tube television break, we upgraded to this Samsung! I think that it was a steal for the quality picture! We have Directv so we have MANY HD chanels available to us and it is AWESOME to watch them on this television. My only complaint was that it did not come with it's own HDMI cable so I purchased one from another store for $40 and the guy that did our install said we would not see much of a difference with a $100 one!"

"The Samsung has great picture quality and excellent sound as well. For watching movies to tv the quality is just outstanding. Playing games is also incredible because there is no "freezing" of the game because of the fast refresh rate for the pixles. I would highly recommend this tv to all of my friends and in fact I have already. Three of the the people I have recommended the tv to have also bought one for themselves."

"i just got this tv on feb. 1st. i love this tv!!! when i 1st turned on a basketball game in HD, it was so crystal clear, 100x better than my previous HDTV. i use it mainly for my ps3, ps3 graphics, bluray movies, everything else is so stunning. ps3 looks better than xbox 360 on this tv... this tv has a game mode that speeds up the refresh rate or something like that to make the games run smoother. so if you are looking for a 1080p flat panel, this is the way to go!! the price is pretty cheap for a 40" 1080p flat panel. hope i helped..."

"I bought this TV as my first big purchase for my new apartment. After doing a lot of research on which brand of Hi Def TV to buy I ultimately settled on a Samsung. The amount of HDMI inputs and the clarity and user-friendly menus allowed me to easily setup my dvd player, game console, and cable. Now with a few clicks I can change between the three. I am now looking to buy a Samsung Blu Ray Player. I can't say enough about the quality of the brand"

Very satisfied with purchase 02/11/2008

"I've had this tv since thanksgiving '07 and overall, I am very happy with my purchase. The tv is the perfect size for my apartment and the speakers are good enough to fill the room without any extra amplification.

I had been looking for a 32" - 42" tv for almost 3 years way back when the digital changeover was supposed to happen in Mar '07. Then changes in legislation pushed it to Feb '09 and so I got a few more years of use out of my old CRT tv. Finally all the stars aligned and Best Buy put this tv on sale (for the right price) on black friday and again in the following week and that is when I took the plunge and haven't regretted it since.

The TV is very light and has a ton of connections both on the back and on the side for easier reach. I've got my PS3 connected using HDMI and my VCR/DVD combo connected using one of the component inputs. Picture quality especially on Blu-Ray discs is just amazing. Watching the Super Bowl on this TV was a joy and I highly recommend this tv to anyone looking for a mid-size LCD."

"I purchased this TV for my parents for Christmas and they have been extremely happy with it. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching TV on it the few chances I have had. The picture quality is great! My parents had Comcast hook up an HD receiver to their TV and while watching tennis on it, you could see the scuff marks on the court. Compared to my Magnavox HD LCD TV, the sound quality and color are great. I highly recommend this TV!"

Samsung Delivers Quality Televison... 02/10/2008

"I did a lot of research before purchasing this TV and read countless reviews on not only this TV but all Samsung Flat Panel LCD's. My girlfriend's family owns an earlier model of the TV and after I saw theirs I knew Samsung was the one to buy. Not only that but when I went into the store I noticed that the Samsung stuck out by how bright and clear the TV was. Around it was a Sony and an LG and below it was a larger Samsung.

Setting up the TV was easy. I wish it had a DVI port in the back instead of the traditional analog monitor port. It comes with 3 easily accessible HDMI ports. The input boards are very well labeled and designed for maximum cable efficiency. There is also a hanger on the back of the TV stand that you can use to round up lose cables into a bundle to make things nice and neat behind the TV if you live in an apartment and can't mount the TV to the wall.

I have a pretty large living room and I have to say that anywhere you sit in the room you can see everything very clearly.

I own a PS3 and I've been playing a ton of CoD4 on this TV and I have to say the TV makes the game look 1000x better than my old Tube. No ghosting of the images with this TV.

Movie playback on the PS3 using a regular DVD.

Movie playback on a regular DVD looked spectacular. I tested a number of films out using the PS3 on this TV. The up conversion on the PS3 really takes the details of the films to new levels. For example, if you have ever seen the film Layer Cake and towards the beginning of the film, the villains are driving through a green house, the flowers inside the green house look ABSOLUTELY AMAZING on this TV during that particular shot.

TV Playback using DirecTV DVR.

I used component cables to hook up my DVR to the TV. Needless to say everything is stretched because of the native 16:9 aspect ratio. I can definitely notice some shadowing when watching TV, especially while watching older TV programs like Homicide: Life on the Street. This looks to be more of a limitation of my DVR since it isn't an HD DVR more than a limitation of the TV.

Cons...

The menus are great but it seems like the changes I make to one input does not stay after turning the TV off. For example, to make my TV output a little clearer I attempted to set the TV to 4:3 just for the AV input so it wouldn't stretch the screen. It made it look better but the problem is that after about a half an hour it switches back to 16:9, right in the middle of viewing. It is quite annoying.

The Remote is sometimes very unresponsive to commands. I often find myself having to hit source twice to switch from the AV to the HDMI input so I can use the PS3. I don't believe it is a problem with the buttons but more an issue with the infrared signal going to the TV from the remote or the TV not receiving the signal from the remote.

Other comments....

A lot of people have been commenting on the internal speakers not being that up to par. In my opinion I think the sound comes through clear as day and it does do some surround sound emulation that I can notice in films, tv, and games.

Overall...

Overall this is an amazing buy. It is near perfect and I am very happy with it!"

"Had this tv for a few weeks now and love it!! Great for playing PS3 games, quality just blows your mind away. Been watching blue ray movies through my PS3 and the stunning visual clarity never stops amazing me! Can't wait to get my Dish HD set up and enjoy HD programming. Decent prise for the tv when it was on sale, not sure if I would want to pay the full asking price for the tv. Nice and lightweight and easy to set up and understand. "What an excellent TV. The colors are great, and from my lengthy studies, this TV has the darkest blacks and brightest whites within this price range. If you like to go in and make picture adjustments, you will love this TV!!! There are seemingly endless different picture and color adjustments you can make, even though in my opinion the picture is awesome out of the box. On top of all of this, the price of this set is quite low for a brand name 1080p flatscreen!!! The only negative thing I could possibly say is the sound quality of the the internal speakers is not great. If you actually care about sound quality you obviously won't care about this issue, as you undoubtedly have a seperate surround system."
