It is a great printer, only if it is for show!07/31/2008
By READFINCHCOMICS
What's great about it: Very attractive design What's not so great: Took up too much room in my garbage can!
"Before purchasing this printer, please take to heart the negative reviews for the Kodak EasyShare 5500. My wife and I typically do a lot of research before jumping into any purchase such as this. However, we found ourselves in a situation where time was of the essence and we needed to hasten our decision. We have both purchased a variety of Kodak products and services over the years, so we figured that a printer with the Kodak name was a sound product. We soon found the Kodak EasyShare to be the exception! Much like everyone else, we had difficulty with tech support, the scanning applications, the easy-touch buttons, the paper loading... you name it, we dealt with it! My advice is that your money would be better spent on any other product!"
What's great about it: Cheap... What's not so great: Cheap!!!
"I have had it for 6 months and now it rarely prints at all. My ink works irratically. The ink cartridge emptys very quickly. It tells me that I have the wrong sized paper when I am using the same as always. Try to get customer service...what a joke. Never will I buy a Kodak!"
Great machine for a budget07/20/2008
By stampkim1from Mansfield Texas
What's great about it: cheap ink and great quality and good customer service What's not so great: speed of printing
"I have owned this machine for almost a year now. I love it. I print alot of items online and would go thru a lot of ink so I bought the machine because the ink was so reasonable. What I did not know is the photo quality is almost as good as my epson picturemate flash and it gave me a variety of sizes to print the photos in. On top of that the ink is cheaper and if I buy the ink at best buy, I get a free ream of paper when I buy 2 inks.
When I had trouble scanning into my computer, customer service was there to walk me thru the steps to resolve the problem. there was nothing wrong with the machine, it just needed to be unconnected and connected again.
Unless speed is what you need, this is a great machine. My old Brother was much faster at printing but almost double the price for ink so it was a good trade off for me...and I now have a way to do larger photos with great quality at home."
Best printer I have ever owned!!07/14/2008

What's great about it: ink cartridge are inexpensive What's not so great: NONE
"This is the best printer that I have ever owned. I am a scrapbooker/photographer and I print alot of my own pictures. With previous printers I have found that I had lines that would run through my photos after they were printed. I don't have that problem with this printer. The photos are just as if they had been printed at a store. I am very happy with this product. The ink cartridges are reasonably priced. The print speed is very fast. Printing in half the time as any other printer I have seen. If you want a printer that will save you time, money and give you awesome printing results than you need this printer."
Unreliable with a terminal error mode problem06/29/2008
By JasonH
What's great about it: Only the cost of inks What's not so great: Sudden death syndrome
"Bought this printer from BestBuy, so figured would post this review here. Reliability started to go away a few weeks ago, with black not printing. Printer went into the "printhead missing..." message mode last weekend in which the printer no longer recognizes its printhead. Did printhead reinstallation fix suggested by Kodak website, which did not fix problem. After exchanging emails with Kodak customer service most of Saturday, they finally said replacement printhead would be needed. To their credit, printhead arrived Tuesday. New printhead did not correct problem. Again after emails, Kodak customer service suggested firmware upgrade. After firmware upgrade, printer cycled fine once then went into in paper not recognized mode. After fixing that, printer went into "please wait..." mode, ...forever. Printer worked fine for about 6 months, then bricked itself. Would NOT recommend any Kodak printer."

What's great about it: its all in one and has a 4x6 photo tray What's not so great: its kinda big and make a funny squeaky sound when its loading the paper
"i feel like its fast and well it copies scans prints on both sides and can fax and i love the perfect touch program it offers. the ink that goes to this printer seems to last forever. i have a new baby so ive been printing a lot of pictures lately. i personly love this printer and would recommend this to my friends. whats really cool also is it has a spot where you can put your memory card slot, so i dont have to wait till ive downloaded all my pictures from my camra to print them. and it durable because i have a two and a half year old who thinks its his new toy and he hasnt done anything to it........yet."
kodakes5500-Exceptional product06/18/2008

What's great about it: ease of use and auto funtions that take out the guess work What's not so great: none yet
"The Kodak es5500 all in one printer with fax is an exceptional machine . I do recomend that before you start with puting the printer together that you read all the information that came with the printer this will save you time and alot of frustration. The Quality of the photo finish is unsurpassed by none other. Also be very careful with the print head it can be easily damaged before you even get started so take care there I have bought and owned many a printers in the last 18 yrs and feel that this one is and has been overlooked by pc magazines and the cost of the ink is very attractive and it does a job better than most of the one's that cost a few thousand dollars and they also have an exellent customer service department also. I bought this machine at Best Buy and will continue to shop there cause they have a way of making you feel you are important no matter how much you spend and also have a very knowledgeable staff also. 4 stars for the staff of Best Buy."
Good Product at a good price05/25/2008
By 412PCHOMichiganfrom Metro Detroit, Michigan
What's great about it: Works every time and quality is excellent. Cost of ink is exceptional too. What's not so great: A little loud when printing
"Having been associated with the Best Buy computer department for some time now, I would like to think that I have pretty good feel for the quality of products such as this printer based upon the floor display behaviors and the number of printers of each model that get returned. With that in mind, it was my observation that this particular printer was doing very well in the market so I decided to try one. Setup was very simple and my printer has consistently produced high quality photos/scans/documents. One of the pictures that was printed off of this printer ended up being an award winner at a state photo competition. Also this printer came with the duplexing attachment that is normally a special order item! The cost of the ink makes this very attractive as it practically buys itself within a year when comparing ink prices with that of any competing brand. Between the competitive cost of ink and the proven durability of this printer, it almost seems like a no-brainer for anyone looking to get a sturdy all-in-one for home or office use at a wallet-friendly price."
Great printer05/11/2008
By jcs1952from Syracuse, NY
What's great about it: quality product, ease of use, quality of output What's not so great: none that I can think of
"This printer has met all of my needs and more. I've had it a month now and have really put it thru it's paces. It hasn't failed me yet. It produces both quality paper print-outs and photos; in both color and B/W."
What's great about it: Great Price, Even better ink price, excellent quality printing What's not so great: Too many parts to put together.
"For the average user, too many parts to put together. For example the faceplate and printer head should have been factory installed to eliminate user installation error. User guide on installation easy to follow. However, it did not give very good directions on using the two-sided printing attachment. Otherwise, it the best economical printer I have found."
Best Printer I Ever Bought05/01/2008
By dmbskepfrom Missouri
What's great about it: quality of print, cost of ink, easy set up, easy to use
"I would highly recommend this printer to everyone. It is a easy set up. The print quality is great for everyday and photo printing. I wouldn't own a different brand. The cost of ink is low that is a major plus. The ink usages is fantastic. Overall this is a great printer to purchase."
"Apparently this thing has a mind of its own and tends to work only when it wants to. Documents come out faded and the colors are always dull and gloomy looking when printed on regular paper. Half the time it doesn't even print or it begins to print but stops and sounds almost like its stuck. I've tried everything from Customer Service to figuring this out on my own. It takes forever to print/warm-up/read memory cards and sometimes it gets mad and spits out paper saying its the wrong paper size. Well, gee thanks for your opinion, but aren't these types of printers supposed to print on any type of paper?
We're thinking of going back to our old one. I'd rather wait a little longer on something slower and more reliable than having to cross my fingers and pray that this will work today with no problems."
What's great about it: low ink costs, doc feeder, easy to use What's not so great: none so far
"Good everyday printer. Low ink costs compared to most printers. Easy to use to print, scan or fax. Printer turns on/off with computer, or can turn on to use alone."
Best Printer I have ever owned!!!04/17/2008
By N8t1877from Tampa, FL
What's great about it: Style, Photo Quality, Ease of Use, Flexibility What's not so great: Speed
"I purchased this printer for my Mac and it works flawlessly. I am not sure what the others are complaining about but the set up and installation was simple. I was looking for an all in one for under $200 and this was the biggest bang for the dollar. I had first purchased a cannon MX700, but returned it because it did not duplex. This printer does it all with great quality. The only complaint that I have is that it is a little on the slow side, but that was not an important factor for me. It is perfect for the average home user."
What's great about it: Cost of ink is the only plus I can think of What's not so great: Limited printing options, paper jams, just about everything is poorly designed on this unit!
"I've had this unit for about 4 months. Originally it had to be returned due to paper not feeding properly. This was after about 3 hours of speaking to Customer Service somewhere in Latin America. After the new unit was installed and actually printing, I had occasion to call CS again to configure FAX and spent another 2-3 hours talking to people who just read responses off scripts they were provided. FINALLY got one helpful guy who actually seemed to know the product and was able to help me (turns out manual was wrong!) I was expecting something great from Kodak I suppose and I couldn't be more disappointed in this piece of junk. I have a Kodak Easyshare digital camera and this printer combo just seemed like it would be the logical choice to complement the camera (which I LOVE!) But, unlike other, less expensive printers, you have no options for paper type, etc. I suppose it's so clever it can tell whether you're using matte or gloss paper, but the quality I was expecting is just not there. So, today, I am going shopping for a nice, reliable Canon printer which I should've bought in the first place! Save your money on this one. You'll spend more time and money getting a few prints than if you got in your car and went to your local photo processing center. But, if you do get one, stop and get a large bottle of aspriin before you take it home to set it up. This is the first negative review I've ever posted on a product so that should tell you something about how disappointed I am in this product."
Kodak 5500/A Great Machine03/18/2008

What's great about it: Ink Price/Makes Super Quality Prints What's not so great: None Yet
"I had to return the first 5500 I bought because it was a returned unit. However, Best Buy refunded my shipping cost, and within a couple of days, I had new printer shipped at no cost to my residence. The cost of using my old printer to print pictures was about twice the cost of store prints. With the 5500, the cost of 4 x 6 prints are truly 10 cents each. Document printing is not super fast, but I can live with it. The quality of draft printing is not bad. I didn't have any of the print head issues that seemed to plague the earlier units. Also I did receive a pretty decent set up manual with my printer. The complete manual is available on line. Thanks Kodak & Best Buy!!"
What's great about it: looks What's not so great: Nothing works
"Difficult to set up, but once i was done and attempted to print I could never get past the "PRINT HEAD MISSING" error. After another hour or so figuring out how to trouble shoot that problem and fixing it, I attempted to print again. Only half of one photo came out when i got the same error again. I attempted to remove and reinstall the printer head for another hour or so but never got it to work. I got tired of it and returned it back to the store for an HP Photosmart C7280 and right now I couldn't be happier. HP was much easier to install and works wonderfull. Customer Service for Kodak is non existent."

What's great about it: ink What's not so great: lots
"the RTF (OCR) does not work. tech support was as helpful as they can be. just cant edit documents. takes a long time to warm up, print, copy and scan. the only good thing about this printer is the ink cost. can print lots and ink is very inexpensive. finally after 2 weeks i brought it back for a full refund."

By rbutter884from Lake Worth, FL
What's great about it: Cost What's not so great: NO USB or Manuel
"When setting up, like others, I got the print head error. I removed and reinstalled like it instructed and all was fine. 2 days later when I came back to machine and turned it on, got the error instantly and could not get rid of it. Called support, got right thru to the # supplied in box. 2 days later had new print head and a comp black and color cartridges. Installed and work from the start. I have copied a 5 X 7 photo down to a 4 X 6, and printed one new by down loading from computer to test machine, both printed as done by a pro. We'll see what happens from here."

What's great about it: Great Kodak color prints, not to loud. What's not so great: bulky
"Overall I am very pleased with this printer. You can not beat the toner refill cost, half the price of other brands. I have printed quiet a few pictures of varying sizes, as well as used the printers other features. I would recommend to others."
