What's not so great: Had to Return Two Sets
"The first set I returned the same day because when I got it home, the picture was missing a few pixels on the screen, so there was a white dot on the screen. The second set I had to return about 4 months later because there was a green line down the right side of the screen that would come and go. (See attached pictures.) I put up with it for a couple of months (only because I had spent so much time hooking it up on my wall and running cords across my entire bedroom floor) and finally the line would not go away so I returned it. I will never buy a Westinghouse product again. Time to go buy a good ole Japanese TV."

What's great about it: PRICE
What's not so great: SOUND QUALITY IS HORRIBLE
"I paid a clearance price of $227. The picture has a very limited viewing angle. Picture color is not very vibrant. The sound is the worst I ever heard. Sounds like 2 cups and a string. Would only recommend if going into a young childs room where you think it will be damaged within a year."

Among the 5 worst purchases ever

What's great about it: good quality image; acceptable sound; compact design; flexible input
What's not so great: digital tuner does not work correctly with remote
"I purchased two of these HDTVs. My purpose was to connect them directly to my cable (Cablevision) without the box so that I could watch their clear-QAM digital signals.
Both HDTVs did correctly detect all of the clear-QAM signals available from Cablevision during the autoscan.
Quality of the screen image was excellent; sound was acceptable.
But, digital mode:
The tuner/remote did not work as expected. Two major problems: selecting 2.1 from the remote did nothing (2.1 does exist). Selecting 11.1 selected 9.1.
Annoying problems: The info button did not work when watching digital stations. The digital channels were not organized in sequence by channel by rather by cable frequency so, for example, the "channel up/down" function on the remote would go from 4.1 to 13.1 to 7.1 (you get the idea).
I could select, for example, 2.1 when using the "Program Guide" function of the remote. So, with some effort, I could get the tuner to select the channel I wanted to watch.
Both of the HDTVs exhibited the same problems.
Analog functioning was perfect.
Westinghouse support said that the problem was with my cable company. They went on to say that digital signals could not be detected by their HDTV unless it was connected to an antenna, a cable box rather than to a cable. I have another HDTV from another manufacturer also with a QAM tuner and it works perfectly in the identical configuration as the Westinghouse.
I cannot recommend this system."

What's great about it: Price...Price...Price...
What's not so great: Speaker Volume
"Just bought this open item for $199 and added a four year performance plan for $19.99 ... I figured, for that price YOU CAN'T GO WRONG. All in all, great TV, great features. It's definitely no Samsung, but an LCD HDTV for $235 with tax and 4 year warranty is unbeatable."

What's great about it: does not take up alot of space
What's not so great: volume does not go up very loud
"This is perfect for our guest bedroom it is a flat screen tv and doe s not take up alot of space. The color matches all of our guest room furniture. It has build in HDTV and has online program reviews. The cons of this tv is that the volume does not go up as loud as I would like it too-but since this is for the guest bedroom and not our family room tv it has worked out great."

My thoughts

What's great about it: Price, Picture
What's not so great: Screen Size, Volume, Price
"When I bought this it was on sale for $299+tax. I was disappointed with the screen size cause I wish I bought a bigger size. The volume complaint is because I use Verizon FIOS with it through the HDMI port and you never can find a perfect volume. I blame the volume issue on Verizon's fault. The downside with the price is that once the sale was over the price shot up. I don't believe that you should pay more than $200 for a TV this size."

What's great about it: Vastly configurable settings, brilliant and crisp video, flexible form factor, multiplicity of inputs.
What's not so great: Size (it =is= only a 19-incher), lack of DVI input, pathetic native speakers.
"Shipped with many settings/features unavailable (no autoscan for DTV, no audio via HDMI, flicker/blue-screen on DirecTV HD-resolution channels). All such issues were resolved by unplugging the power cord from the rear of the device (w/o turning device off) for approximately five minutes, then plugging it back in.
Beyond that, however, there is little not to recommend about this model. No, it's not going to be your primary/living-room set. (Hey, it =is= only a 19-incher.) No, you shouldn't use this model anywhere you'll be reliant upon the built-in speakers (only a half-step up from your typical cell-phone speaker!).
But it's great for the bedroom, the office, the dorm, or anywhere else viewing is from the general 10-12-foot range (and where there's a decent stereo system through which the sound can be run). Its ability to be used as an all-in-one device for both TV and PC make it a perfect choice where space is at a premium.
Resolution is amazing in a screen this size. The native 900px-height screen up-converts 720p with crackling clarity while providing a much lower level of 1080i/p down-res than most large-screen LCDs with their standard 768px-height (16.7% for this model vs 28.9% for the other guys)."

What's great about it: Outstanding picture resolution!
What's not so great: Audio needs enhancing!
"A good value with outstanding resoultion! I use a Terk indoor antena with this set and feel I am watching cable. Both, I purchased at Best Buy. Audio could be better, but I resolved this by connecting the set to my AM/FM/CD radio. Also it makes a very good monitor for my laptop. No regrets!"

A good tv considering the features and price

What's great about it: Best performance for the price when on sale; Good resolution for the screen size; Decent sound for a small room
What's not so great: Generic remote with several unused buttons and a limited range; The directions are of limited usefulness in setup
"Although it has already been mentioned, this TV was only released in April 2007, so any review that talks about purchasing a TV before then is talking about a different model. This TV works well as a computer monitor, as long as you can get your computer to output the correct native resolution (1440x900), which can be a hassle if the correct resolution is not automatically detected. I initially had some trouble with the HDMI connection, but for some reason probably unrelated to the TV, reversing the cable stopped the HDMI link from periodically cutting out. Not the best 19" TV available, but taking into account relative price it is better than most in my opinion."

Worst TV on the market!

What's not so great: Low volume, DEAD IN 14 MONTHS
"I bought my TV in June of 2005. As soon as it got installed, we realized that the sound is almost inaudible. Store advised to buy speakers to improve sound quality. It broke down within 3 months and after a trip to Westinghouse for Repair (6 weeks), it came back without any improvement. We discovered that it needed to be unplugged each time it was turned off or it won't work next time you turn it on. We missed sending it back to Westinghouse before its 1st birthday by a few weeks. So when it DIED ON ITS 14TH MONTH, the guarantee had just conveniently expired. SORRY, SAID WESTINGHOUSE!!! BUY A NEW ONE."

What's great about it: Good picture
What's not so great: Will not sink with directv HD receiver via HDMI
"Bought this tv, brought it home and hooked it up to my Directv HD reciever. The picture flashes in and out and would not sink up. I exchanged it for a new one thinking it was a defective producted nope same thing. I brought it into the best buy store. They hooked it up in Home Theater to see what was up and same thing with there Directv hd dvr. So out of all fairness the upgraded me at no charge. If you have Directv HD and want to use HDMI it will NOT work for you. Component works and looks great but HDMI is the future of HD."

Consumer Best Buy

What's great about it: The Price
What's not so great: Audio makes a studder sound when changing channels
"I never write in on these things but always read them, felt I had to on this one. I bought this TV for my wife at Christmas; the 2day sale price for $299 caught my eye. This is used in our bedroom to replace an old Sony 15” VCR combo, no dish or cable just over the air TV signals. After getting it home and reading all the negative opinions, I all most brought it back but the Samsung that was on sale for $399 was now $449 so I figured I would give it a try first. Glad I did, with the old Sony rabbit ears, I pull in 20 digital stations after deleting a few with a weak signal. I tried a table top set of rabbit ears I had that I thought would be even better but the signals were cut by almost a third, go figure. So I guess try what ever you have around the house first, (I thought I would have to buy a special antenna). Also have it hooked up to an up conversion DVD player with a HDMI cable that I bought online for $10 instead of $80 at the store. The picture is great I am very well satisfied, I mean it’s not like you can see each blade of grass on the football field like you can at the store but it’s a dam good picture for the price. The sound was a little weak at first but it helped after playing with the settings."

What's great about it: Good value for price
What's not so great: Wish I had more money
"I can only think most of the reviews on this page are either from individuals who are techno-snobs or who did not take the time to buy the correct cords or read the directions. I got a YPbPr cord the day after I bought this for a DVD player and the picture looked great. I also have 12 really nice looking HD channels free over an antenna. The only draw back is that the tv does not have two groups of YPbPr plug ins. The sound can also be adjusted by using the treble and bass options and surround to give it a satisfactory sound.
Buy the cords and reap the benefits."

What's great about it: Simple/Inexpensive
What's not so great: Sound/one hdmi port
"For what I paid for this set, it's fine. It sucks if you don't have an HD capable antenna... AGAIN!!! HD capable antenna!!! So if you cop this set, make sure you shell out another 50$ for a quality antenna, it's the differance between your writer review being a pro or a con. It's really a nice set once you hook up the HD CAPABLE antenna."

What's great about it: Easy set up, doubles as computer monitor and TV in spare bedroom
What's not so great: Sound quality (I expected it to be kind of poor)
"I've read all these other people complaining about picture quality, difficulty setting up, etc. I have had none of the above. I followed the general rules of coax cable is OK, S-Video better, component cables better yet, and hdmi being the best. I have HD DirectTV, and the box came with an HDMI cord. For the first few days, I used the standard compsites, not having ever used hdmi... when I did change, it made a world of difference. Very nice picture. Much better than expected. All I had to do was plug 1 end into the back of the satellite box, and the other into the slot marked hdmi on the tv. For people dissatisfied with the picture quality, I would say step up the type of hook up you have to whatever level you can"

What's great about it: None
What's not so great: Many
"I have purchased many electronic products over the last few years and this TV is the worst I have seen in a long tome. The picture quality is only mediocre, I have heard better sound quality in an elevator or supermarket. The most amazing thing was after an interruption in electrical service the thing turned itself on when power was restored. I am very disappointed in Best Buy's choice of an item to put in it's stores."
