"I was originally going to purchase a Toshiba 42 inch DLP, but opted for this one instead. I do not regret my decision at all! It has everything I needed: 2 HDMI ports, great picture, great sound, and a digital tuner built-in (something I will come to appreciate even more in 2009). If you're thinking about buying this TV, BUY IT!!!"

What's great about it: Retina Burning Brights, Gorgeous Cabinet, Great Sound
What's not so great: Very Poor Black Level due to lack of Back Light Control, Questionable 768p resolution
"I have a love/hate relationship with this TV. It is used as a bedroom TV only and 98% of its viewing is in total darkness. So the lack of backlight control makes all dark scenes appear to be grey which is very distracting to me. The TV advertises an 8000:1 Dynamic Contrast which does work as you will see the XD Engine attempt to change the contrast based on what is on screen, kind of bounces from dark(er) to bright. With no Black Control the real Contrast ratio is maybe 900:1. Equal to highend LCD's back in 2003. In bright environments the poor black levels are barely visible.
The XD Engine works well as mentioned earlier with Contrast and Color, but falls short in Noise Control on Hi-Definition. HD-DVD and Blu-ray have such a Hi-Resolution that only the worst content will look bad. HD Cable or Satellite will only look good from at least 7-8 feet away as this TV features absolutely NO MPEG image enhancer at all giving the compressed HD content from Cable and Satellite a VERY Blocky, Less than DVD Quality look in short viewing distances. 8 feet is a sweeet spot for TV viewing.
Standard Definition Channels look good, as it is obvious LG spent some time tuning the TV for DVD and Standard Def, and leaving HD as a what you see what you get. Even all HD images need some image improvement as HD *can* show more image flaws.
The TV accepts 480p, 720p and 1080i. It scales 480p and 720p to 768p to fill the screen, but fails miserably on 1080i. 1080i is reduced to 540p by removing half of the quality then it *doubles* lines and pixels to upconvert to 768p. At the end of the day you are only seeing half of what 1080i can be. Another 2003 HDTV issue plaguing LG in 2007. A preferred method would be to deinterlace 1080i to 1080p internally, then down-convert to 768p as the manual leads you to believe.
The TruSound XT is great and the user menus are easy to browse around. This TV feautres a TV "ON" clock which allows you to use it as an alarm clock. Great feature for the bedroom. The only draw back here is LG ONLY allows the TV ON feature to use the cable wire input, if you have a DVR or Cable/Satellite Box of some sort you will only get static unless you run a separate wire."

"I bought an Insignia 32" about 6 months ago as my first HDTV. I really like that set, however, I wanted to go bigger at this time and move the Insignia into my sons room. I had every intention on getting the 37" Insignia for my livingroom as it now comes in a black finish and looks alot like the other more expensive sets. This set was right below the Insignia mounted on the wall and after looking at them for what seemed to be about an hour I walked out of Bestbuy with the LG. Yes it was 250 dollars more but the picture was that much better and then some. I am in awe at how well this set performs. The picture rivals that of a $2000 1080p set. I also use an xbox360 from time to time and this set really looks great with the games. Picked this one up as a price match of $899 from another vendor and couldn`t be happier."

Great Deal for the Price We Paid

What's great about it: Great HD and DVD picture; Easy set-up
What's not so great: 720p resolution (still OK for this size TV); slow tuner
"We originally purchased a 32" Panasonic, but decided to see if we could get a bigger screen for about the same price. With this LG, we think we were successful. Even though it is a 720p model, the resolution is more than adequate for us (we sit approximately 8'-10' from the TV screen). For the HD broadcasts and DVD play, the picture is excellent. The SD broadcasts are only slightly degraded from the HD quality. The sound quality is above average, which is fine with us. I think the remote is relatively easy to use, and the on-screen menus are easy to navigate. Changing screen settings (aspect ratio, brightness, etc.) is particularly easy with a number of presets available. We certainly could have spent more money to get a slightly better picture, but with our budget (less than $1,000) we think we got the best value with this particular TV."

What's great about it: Awesome Picture, Great HD, All sorts of Inputs, Hooks up to my PC, Audio Out Port, Light-weight, Stylish...
What's not so great: Pixels very apparent in some Video and Games due to such a LARGE SCREEN!!!
"This is my second LCD TV purchase and all I have to say is that LG has again astounded me. The quality on this set is beautiful and though it isn't 1080i, it displays a magnificent picture! I love the fact that the monitor can double as a massive computer screen; I just hook up my wireless keyboard and mouse and I'm ready to go! And as I have said before, if you aren't satisfied with the audio quality of this television, just go out and buy a kickin' surround sound system to hook to the audio out ports in the back. I have had no problems as of yet with this specific TV, though I did end up having to exchange a previously purchased LG 32" TV that was suffering from the same affliction that so many reviewers have been complaining of; It kept turning itself on and off! With the service plan that I purchased I was able to just take it up and exchange it out, no hassles. JUST ALWAYS PURCHASE THE SERVICE PLANS ON THESE KINDS OF PRODUCTS! Anyway, a happy ending to that story! So despite these few minor implications, I am staying true to LG and their otherwise flawless, in my experiences, product line!"

What's great about it: Can act as a computer monitor, great selection of screen ratios, easy menu, great picture and sound

"Love this TV! I got a little while ago, got great Reward zone points ^^ and couldnt be happier. I like to play video games have a great computer, but my monitor is a little too small (im a guy so Screens/TVs cant ever be big enough for us) but any ways was looking into upgrade my current tv in my room. After speaking with a BB rep i found out i could use this HUGE tv a computer monitor, i use SLI video cards and wow. The picture of my desktop takes my breath away, i didnt even notice all the detail and colors of my wallpaper until i plugged it into this tv.
Movies, i am also a huge movie buff. Now a day a lot of movies are coming out in HD 1080 this and that...... Put in a HD DVD the other day and was wondering why i go to the movies at all when i can stay in my boxers and have better quality. And before you say anything i made myself popcorn so i had my snacks and the old lady by my side.
So if you’re deciding on a TV don’t want to sell a body part to pay for it and still feel like a king, don’t look any further."

What's great about it: Get the HD box from cable company and watch NFL in HD.
What's not so great: None whatsoever!
"Obviously one of the users had a faulty T.V. I did alot of research on this T.V. and I was able to get a great deal on this one, along with the sale price I was able to get 10 percent off first purchase of Best Buy. I watched several baseball games in HD and football games on fox HD. Simply amazing! The detail is great and watching regular T.V. will never be the same for me. Now if I can only upgrade my bedroom t.v.
Looking to get a blu -ray disc as soon at the price drops! Son played nintendo Wii on it and it looked amazing!
Definitely go with this one if you can't afford the 60 inch plasma's."

"Excellent tv thus far, great picture and the only thing we have that is hd is our xbox 360. (we're getting hd installed tonight) Setup and Install was extememly simple, easy to navigate between inputs, easy to switch between aspect ratios (including one that allows the source signal to determine the ratio). Regular dvd's look great, regular tv programming looks great, brilliant color and contrast. Gaming is great on it. Can't wait to get the hd cable hooked up tonight!!!! Lastly, no popping, cracking or vertical/horizontal lines (those people were obviously posting about the wrong tv... lol)"

What's great about it: Bright sharp screen, Great looking glossy black finish.
What's not so great: Not 1080i
"I purchased this after returning a Samsung 30 inch 1080i and I have to say it was well worth it. Although it is not 1080i. Set up was really easy and I was watching HD in a matter of minutes. The TV looks great just sitting there. The contrast is awesome and the colors are amazing. HD on this set is great and regular non HD programs have a above average look. Football and Baseball on this set is why you get HD. The response time 5 ms is also good enough where you do not get any tracer effects related to watching sporting event. The sound is also very good, The different sound settings give you a surround sound style without the system. Although everyone should include a system but if you can't afford one this TV has a very crisp sound. I am seriously considering buying a HD dvd player because this TV's color and picture is so good. I did not purchase the extended warranty but I plan on going in later to purchase it as I have read other reviews on different websites stating that there has been issues with the power cord.
I would highly recommend this set to anyone looking for a big screen without the big price."

"great price for this '37 LCD. The sound and picture looks and sounds so clear. I did my homework on alot of different TVs and at first didnt even look at LG. I love my new flat screen. Really sleek and top of the line looking. Really easy to hook up. Besides the main cord to buy, not alot of extra $$ was needed to initially buy."

What's not so great: popping and cracking sound when tv turned on and off
"At first I loved the set.....but after a few days, I continued to hear a popping/cracking sound when the tv was turned off and on....it lasted about 30 seconds....very annoying.
I returned the tv after three weeks and exchanged it for a 42" Phillips flat screen ...which was $100 less. I hope I have a better experience with the Phillips."

What's not so great: Sound, remote, features, normal broadcasting - decent
"I did alot of research and this made my life very tough for a week. I decided to go with the 32" LG. The picture was great but the tv just wasn't big enough. I upgraded to this model - a different model all togethor. The picture didn't seem as crisp on normal broadcasting (maybe I'm crazy) but the size more than made up for it. I went ahead and picked up a home theatre system for 200.00 as well to over come the deficient sound. I'm very pleased overall. The xbox 360 and movies look good. The HD tuner seemed to help the standard broacasting. I'm still getting slight shadowing on all standard broadcasting but this could be the cable reception."

"Im a service tech for a Digital media company and most of the time I go into people houses to fix Digital cable issues. I used to envy their big flat panel tv's but Not anymore. This LG has one of the nices picture I ever seen. I have my computer connected to it and even my son's 360. I love the picture. I have another tv a 52" Plasma Toshiba in my living room but the LG looks brighter. I got rid of my comp monitor and I bought a wireless keyboard/mouse. Now I could spent days in my room, I love the sleak design. the sharp picture quality. the only down side is the Sound, but I dont pay mind to it because I use my computer surround sound. It should have better sound. I gave it 4 stars because of the sound. Remote is easy to use and computer setup was a breeze. It detected the input signal right of way. I will definetly recomend it."

"When I first got this tv everything looked fine. After a few days I noticed a popping and clicking noises. I thought they might go away. They never did and got louder. I read other reviews and heard people saying they had the same issue. I just couldn't see myself listening to that for 5 years. The picture was good but, this issue was too much to over look.
Best Buy customer service was great though. I exchanged this with no hassel. I spent and extra $700 and got a Samsung 40" 1080p model 66F. I would highly recommend spending the extra cash and getting a Samsung. I am very happpy. And no clicking or popping sounds!"

"We got this TV after admiring the picture quality in the store. However when we got it home there was a thin blue verticle line in the center of the screen and a horizontal line about 1 inch from the top on the left side of the screen. These lines were present when using an antenna or playing DVD's or with no signal at all. Took it back to Best Buy and got a no hassle refund. Will consider another brand when we decide to purchase a flat panel again."

"The LG looked great and had a fantastic picture. We had it for less than 6 weeks when it started turning itself off. It would stay on for 20 minutes then go off. The more you tried to turn it back on, the faster it went off. You must buy the service plan with this product. Better yet, buy Sony, Sharp or Samsung. LG is a customer service nightmare - the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. The TV needs 2 computer board parts - power related - and one has been backordered from LG for a month!"
