What's great about it: Many features which had potential to be good
What's not so great: Something wrong with the TV which made it produce very block-like pictures
This TV had a great potential to turn out as a nice TV with it's 47" screen and fairly cheap price at $1450. But when opened and hooked up to a satellite signal the picture produced was very blocky and of terrible quality. At first I thought there may be something wrong with my signal, so I tried hooking it up to a smaller LCD TV I had, and sure enough the picture was fine.
Next I attempted hooking up a blu-ray player to the TV and again, I got the same terrible quality on the TV as I did with the satellite signal. I know the blu-ray player works along with no defects in the cable I used because once again I hooked up the TV to my other LCD TV.
So this TV maybe be a great buy if you don't get a defective TV, but I'm returning it for a different TV, probably going with Samsung this time.

What's great about it: Amazing Picture, Easy to use, Great size Screen, Screen Guard
What's not so great: Shrinks screen when watching Non-Hd Shows, Just a few programs not very clear
After waiting a month and a half, watching the adds, reading the reviews, I finally decided to purchase this 47" LG T.V. This is my first HDTV, and so far, I am AMAZED at the difference between regular tv and the new HD tv. Sports, movies, and everyday viewing is that much better and more enjoyable now that I have upgraded. I also purchased a Sony DVD player that turns all my old DVD movies into HD, and it is amazing! The first movie I popped in was King Kong. All I can say is WOW, what a difference!! This TV brings out all the definition Kong is supposed to have. I had the Geek Squad come in and hook up all my surround sound in sync with my new tv, and it is amazing!!! All in all, I am happy with my new TV. I would recommend this TV to anyone who is a first time buyers. However, if you already have a HDTV, this probably wouldnt be an upgrade for you.

What's great about it: XD engine
What's not so great: still looking for it
I bought this in February for a graduation present and my wife wouldn't let me have until now. Worth the wait! I had it mounted on the wall and hooked up three hours after it came through the door. The XD engine does a great job of upconverting my standard DVD's for near HD picture. My cable looks a little fuzzy, but I'm running standard analog cable. I've lived without surround sound for a while now, so I find the sound from the this unit outstanding. I had researched TV for months or a year or more and I am quite pleased with my decision. As many reviewers have suggested, though, I still bought the extended service plan.

What's great about it: HD and digital programs are outstanding
What's not so great: Picture not as sharp on non-digital programs
The quality is very good for the price. LG has done a very good job with the exception of TV shows that are non-digital. The picture quality at times when vieving analog shows is worst than what I have on my other 32" LG 720 TV. This set is however, very good when hooked up to external 5 or 2 speaker systems (need a sub woofer). This TV is the center piece in my living room.

What's not so great: NA
I love this TV. Looked online and went into Best Buy store without knowing which one I would buy (only price range < $2000 before tax). This TV blew away every other TV in price range... BB staff also said that LG is really making a name for itself in TV market.

What's great about it: Bright picture easy to calibrate
What's not so great: None yet
Shopped and shopped and shopped. It was a deciding between this the Samsung 46" or the Westinghouse 47". There were no video reviews online for this model but there were for the Westinghouse and Samsung. The westinghouse is about 270.00 cheaper on sale. I did not like the look of the Westinghouse it looked cheap and the blacks were not very black on the show floor for the picture. However the LG after calibrating it via Cnet.com guide on how to calibrate an lcd, I was amazed at the difference. I will be honest with the built in settings nothing to brag with but once it is properly calibrated the true quality of this LG comes out. I would deifnitly buy it again I have windows in the back of the room too that show no glare anymore on my tv because I have LCD. Plus with kids no worries of burn in. Sound I dont use so I dont know if it is good or not. The picture even does a good job on my horrid cable. I am going to switch to Satellite because cant stand cable. But DVD and Movies are great.

What's great about it: Better than higher priced TV's
What's not so great: Mounting Holes
I have had this TV for about 4 months now and love it! I also have a 40" Samsung 1080p LCD HDTV that is about 6 months old. This LG is much better than the Samsung which is higher rated and more expensive. I also have a first-generation 30" Samsung console 1080i HDTV from about 2 years ago.
I am not that picky about the picture quality because, frankly, all of these new TV's have excellent quality. Sure, if you have them side-by-side, you can always nitpick some fine detail here or there, but the bottom line is that if you take any of these and put them on your wall, they will all look great. Also, they have so many different adjustments, you can fine-tune any of these to your liking if you are willing to spend the time. Personally, I have all of my TV's on their standard factory setting for the home and they look great.
But, back to this LG TV: I only get the 6 HDTV channels that are offered free over-the-air and they all look great on either of the HDTV's. But, the non-HD channels look much better on this TV than my others. It must be the XD engine that makes low-def pictures look better. Also, something you never get to test in the store is the remote control and I love this one much more compared to the Samsung. The button locations are placed better so the ones I use most often are easy to reach while holding the remote.
The biggest problem with this TV, though are the mounting holes. The holes are located at the far outside corners of the TV which do not fit most of the wall-mounts on the market today. The few that do fit are hard to find and very expensive. I think the specs are for a 400mm x 800mm mount for LG or Phillips TV's. So, be sure to get the right mount. Personally, I bought a standard telescoping mount and made my own brackets that adapt the mount to the TV. But, I would not recommend it since it was very difficult and now many of the inputs on the back of the TV are blocked by the mount and adapter.
Still, I love this TV and have recommended it to many friends. You can get it on sale every once-in-a-while around $1400 and I have found it to be better than most TV's costing twice as much.

What's great about it: Great HD picture
What's not so great: TV pedestal cheap, Non-HD picture pixels poor
The HD picture is top notch! However, when using only a HDMI cable to connect the cable box to the TV, the non-HD picture appears blurry and pixelated. This is easily solved by connecting a standard cable hook up as well as a HDMI. Switch between inputs for the best picture- HDMI input for high definition and CATV input(cable) for standard definition.
For the price, I have been very satisfied with this purchase!

What's not so great: Picture clarity
After being swayed into this tv by my significant other, I am quite disapointed with this purchase. Sure the tv is bigger than the previous one we owned (which was a Sony Wega 42") however the clarity and color is aweful. Our rear projection had better quality. We have adjusted the color, brightness, etc and nothing seems to make it focus. I am truly disappointed and find it to be one of the worst purchases I have ever made.

What's great about it: Great Picture, Great Price
What's not so great: None
I bought this TV in early November for 1499.00 after doing lots of brand research and comparisons of LCD vs. Plasma. I have been nothing but happy with the TV on all types of programs, given the right HD feed. I watch a lot of sports on this TV and when I asked the sales people whether they liked Plasma or LCD for sports all of them said Plasma is the best. So after purchasing I would go into the store every few days to compare the plasma to my LCD to make sure I had the best picture and I have been extra observant when around plasmas in friend's houses and I would say that this TV has the best picture.
The sales people always said basketball was the downfall of LCD because of pixilation and the fast action with lots of players around each other. If you get a 1080i feed the pixilation is there a bit, but it was there on the plasmas I saw in the store too (I don't know what their feed was). If you can get a 720p feed, the picture is fantastic and I think much more crisp than the "looking through a screen door" feel I get when watching a plasma. And if all you get is the 1080i, the picture isn't bad you just see more flaws if you really look for them.
I have a friend who bought a top of the line ($3,500 at the time for 47") Toshiba Regza about 15 months ago and after he owned it for about 10 months it developed a big red line down the screen that was always there. Toshiba honored the warranty and replaced the TV with today's comparable model and he spent a bit more money to get 120hz technology in the newer Regza (I believe model 46LX177). We watched the AFC/NFC championship games on it and the picture was no better than this LG that cost a fraction of the Toshiba.
Point is that no matter how much or how little you spend on anything, there's a chance something can go wrong with it. The only bad reviews I have seen on this TV were from those who had specific problems, and even those have been saying that when the TV worked the picture was great.
I would buy this TV while you can before it's gone. It's a great TV
Some have been complaining about the speakers. They do the job, but if you're looking at this type of TV, and don't have surround sound, get that too.

What's great about it: Amazing Picture/User Friendly
What's not so great: None
This is my first HDTV purchase. My largest TV was an old 27" before this buy. The price is amazing for what you get, which is an amazing picture! I know there are TVs on the higher end, price and quality wise. But, I've had this new set for a few weeks and I couldn't be happier! I was able to set it up on my own and I know nothing about electronics! I would recommend this TV to anyone taking thier first steps into the newer technology.

What's great about it: Pic Quality, ease of use.
What's not so great: none
Bought this TV after months of research and comparison to Samsung and Sharp, and I thought the picture quality was better than both. I have it hooked up to a Samsung Blue Ray player and it is unreal. Got my HD cable hooked up last monday and it is so great, I can't even watch regular channels anymore. I like that you can set it up to automatically change screen size (16:9, 4:3) and don't have to manually change it everytime you change the channel. I think the speakers are very good, although I have a samsung 5.1 surround sound with it. I watched HD golf for the first time and it was like being on the course watching, I absolutely love it, and can't wait to watch the Masters on it.

What's great about it: Image quality, Ease of Use
What's not so great: Immediate Need for Repair
Bought the TV on Tuesday, by Sunday I was on the phone with LG. Bottom line, the image went blank after a few crackles (bad ground?) and now I'm in line for a tech to repair it a week from purchase. From what I've read, LG has had a rash of board (main PCB) repairs over the past months and this isn't new. I'm hoping this will be the fix, but it's a definite bummer after a wonderful first few days with it. Aside from the repair, I really have enjoyed the picture quality. The sound volume tends to jump around depending on channel (HD vs. non), but I don't think the quality is all that bad. Overall a decent TV, but be prepared to call tech support.

What's great about it: Great picture right out of the box
What's not so great: No PIP, Can't seem to get my camera to work with it
I can't believe I got this tv. What a great buy. I just love to watch even boring shows now. It took me some time to figure out all the hookups and settings as I am new to HDTV, but once I figured it all out I am now enjoying the best TV I have ever owned. It has worked flawlessly now for over a month. There is nothing wrong with buying this TV. I picked it up at the local Best Buy for only 1399.00. That was a 100.00 savings from what the price tag said. I'm not sure why, but I'll go with it. I would recomend this item to anyone.
