"I got the speakers cuz of the price an looks . For the price there great speakers. Light weight , ez hook up , great highs. I was looking for them to be a little taller . The bass out put is light . But over all good speakers for the price"

What's great about it: Looks, Price, clarity
What's not so great: The bass could be a little stronger, but that's what a sub is for

"I bought these replacing an ancient pair of Sony floor standing speakers, I wasn't expecting AMAZING sound from these things, but they do sound better than I thought they would. They are very clear with a good receiver.
The speaker cones are a light silver, and the cabinet is a black wood-looking material. So, they fit perfectly in with my silver Yamaha receiver, and black PS3, etc.
The only thing I wish these speakers had was punchier bass, I mean I don't expect a sub replacement but sometimes there are bass notes a little high that my sub isn't configured to play, that these could be better at. The port on the bottom front gets a lot of air pushed through it. They are a little shorter than I expected, and the covers are sturdy and easily removed.

Overall these speakers are worth the money, and I would recommend these to anyone looking for great looking/sounding speakers with a budget."

What's great about it: Crisp clean sound
What's not so great: Nothing so far.

"I have had these speakers for a month now and they sound amazing. I purchased these to replace a set of 12" JBL floor standing speakers. Why? Its complicated, but I'm not disappointed. I have them hooked up to a sony 5.1 receiver, 80 watts per channel, and both my PC and PS3 are connected with digital optical audio cables. These speakers have insane bass for 8"s. I watched Star Trek on blu-ray yesterday and didnt notice my powered sub was off until after the movie. These speakers alone shook my living room. The treble isn't as crisp as my JBLs but still sounds very good. These paired with the bookshelf versions (best buy sells them also for about 50$) sound amazing."

What's great about it: nice sleek design, light weight, easy to set up and enjoy right away
What's not so great: not enough power behind the speakers not the boom i was hopen for

"These speakers are great for an extra pair of speakers although I bought them to replace a set of yamaha's I chose to keep the old speakers because they still had better sounds then these speakers but they do make for good backup speakers or bedroom speakers. I wouldnt recommend for your main speakers if you like great sound that booms!"

What's great about it: Excellent sound quality and appearance for a very low price!

"As many others have said these speakers offer excellent sound quality for an unbelievable low price. I paid $170 for the pair! I have them running off my Sony receiver that puts out 110 watts per channel, and I have not experienced any distortion at all even at high volume levels. I would recommend these speakers for anybody who wants speakers that sound nearly as good as speakers costing 3x times as much!"

"I bought these speakers to use with my Yamaha RX397 receiver. The bass and treble is very good (depend on your receiver as well). I can hear things that I never heard before. I can tell you that they are great for listening to music because of their clarity and response. They also good for movies. I highly recommend these speakers."

"These speakers really complimented our surround sound system. They are powerful and sound great. I considered speakers that would have cost 2 or 3 times as much money, but when I heard these it didn't make sense to buy the others. I was so happy with these speakers I ended up buying the matching center speaker."

What's great about it: These speakers have excellent sound quality, especially for the cost.
What's not so great: Bass response not as full as others but seems fine to me. Perhaps, more realistic.

"These speakers are simply fantastic! They can hit hard and shake the whole house (depending on the size of the house). I have mine hooked up to a Yamaha rx 465 and the Yamaha definitely powers these bad boys well. The highs are crisp and clear. The bass is powerful at higher volumes, but at lower volumes a subwoofer would help. I looked at the Polks for 200 a piece and they didn't sound any better, especially not for a good chunk of change more. I love these speakers and they are great for a HT setup like I am building. Soon, I plan on getting the SS-F7000s for fronts and moving these to the back for rears...unless I can get my hands on some Klispchs for cheap...:)"

"These speakers will satisfy your needs for music and home theater. But, you need to have a receiver capable of at least 100 watts per channel. All modern speakers are designed with this as the "bench mark" for powering speakers. If you have an old, low-powered receiver you will not get the best out of these or any more expensive speakers. I have a receiver at 110 watts per channel and these Sony's perform great! No "weak-base" or treble have I found. I also have a 100 watt powered sub-woofer and I can rattle windows and make my ears hurt at 33% volume in a very-large "great room"! A graphic-equalizer can tune them greater, but wouldn't you rather have more DVD's or CD's for your money? Go with the "right" size receiver and save money, they'll perform great! These are truly your "Best Buy" from a great dealer and manufacturer, Sony!!!"

"I am sure all identical speakers have the same power BUT not the sound effects. It all depends on the receiver they are equipped to.
My receiver, from what I think, delivers perfect sound/bass/treble to these speakers. I LOVE the way these speakers sounds. And it all is because of the receiver I have; I have set the frequence and bass to max and these speakers are roaring in the roam and EXTREMELY clear."

"I have been an audiophile for more than 20 years. I have used and tested countless numbers of home audio gear product such as, speakers, amps, equalizers, sound processor and more.

I currently have a Yamaha RX-V661 Receiver running in Multi-channel mode. Front is powered by a Kenwood Basic M2A (220 Watts), Center, Presence, and Surround are powered by separate Kenwood M1A (105Watts) power amps. I have been shopping for speakers to replace the Sharp speakers that I was using for front. I am running Boston Acoustics for the Center, Presence, and Surround. I was looking at the Polk Audio S50, but every article that I read gave them poor reviews. So I kept looking until I ran across an ad in BestBuy Specials that listed these Sony speakers. I read all the reviews, and based on the reviews decided to give these a try. Okay to make this short and to the point. These speaker perform as stated in all the reviews. I cannot believe the clarity of these speakers. They blend good with the Boston Acoustic. They have GOOD bass response, not boomy, not boxy. The mid-range are clear and not muffled, and the highs are not beaming, they are evenly dispersed. With the Kenwood M2A Basic they seem to be equally matched. Added a sub-woofer and that just tightened the bass up even more. The only con I have about these speakers is they are kind of light. Had to get speaker stand so that they would not fall over while setting on shag carpet. Please buy a pair you will not regret it."

"These Sony floorstanding speakers are very affordable. You can get a pair of them for $159.99. Most speakers you have to buy individually and are priced at $159.99 each. These speakers are a great bargain and can get the job done for the price that you are paying. They have a good amount of power for the price. The sound quality of the speakers are descent. If you wanted a speaker that had better sound quality you would be paying a lot more for it. I feel that these Sony speakers are a real bargain and worth giving a try. You can even give them a test at your local BB store."

"I bought these to replace some beloved floor speakers that had grown a bit muddy over the last 16 years. My wife wanted smaller, but I convinced her that she would not be happy with an all-in-the-box system, since we listen to cd's with our system. These were about as big as she would allow and they had great reviews.

I was nervous about the smaller woofers and the very low price - how is it possible to get quality and power handling for $160? After setting them up, I was very impressed. They look right at home next to our 46" lcd and actually seem a bit more elegant then the last speakers we had. We put in a CARS dvd and cranked it up (a great CD at the beginning to check out power handling and surround). We were blown away - totally shocked. I did not think speakers at that price and with smaller woofers could sound that good.

Bravo to Sony.

If you are a normal listener, not a weird 'gotta get sick to think it sounds good' family, these speakers will be all you need. We do not feel the need for a subwoofer at all. My son and I could both the very loud and rich roar of the cars in the movie - right through our bodies. Much more than most people will ever really need.

Sony also has nice little center/surround speaker sets that are inexpensive and sound just fine. Unless you are an extremeist in sound, you will be happy. Bargain of the year!"

"I just replaced my 36 year old Smaller Advent speakers (which were re-coned in '90 in case you were wondering how they lasted this long) because I just bought a new receiver to replace my 23 year old Optimus receiver which developed a buzzy hum after all of these years.
Now nothing was wrong with these Advents except the 4 ohm impedance was making the new receiver kinda hot (as they did with the Optimus) and they would click in the safety circuit if I tried to crank them on my new receiver. (Happened just once but that was enough). And besides, I wanted a change.
Now, you may say these Advents are a hard act to follow by the Sonys, and that is true. I was experiencing some 'buyer’s remorse’ at first. But as I experimented with these speakers through my EQ, I was able to mimic a highly similar effect as with the Advents. In fact, if you play around with the frequencies, the sound from these speakers can be astonishing despite their smallish size (for floor speakers that is).
So I would say these speakers are quite nice provided you have the tools to tweak them. The high end is not bad (something somewhat lacking in my Advents). But, in my opinion, ‘out of the box’ the Sonys are, at first listen, mediocre.
If you have an EQ, or you can shape the output from these speakers, then I would say, “go for it”."

"I've had these speakers for at least two months, but up until about a week ago, they were in storage at a friend's house. Six days ago, I took them out of the box and hooked them to my decade-old Sony STR-AV210 stereo receiver. I listened to them hooked to this receiver for two days, then hooked them to a Sony STR-K700 for the next four days (the receiver which comes in a HT-DDW700 home theater in a box). For comparison, the STR-AV210 puts out 45 x 2 watts, while the STR-K700 puts out 85 x 2 watts at 0.7% THD (when in 2.1 sound output; the 5.1 configuration obviously puts out less power per speaker). Also, when hooked to the STR-K700, the speakers were accompanied by a Sony SA-W2500 10" powered subwoofer, since the crossover of that receiver is preset at what I believe to be 120 Hz.

First, I have pushed these speakers to levels high enough to cause me moderate discomfort at their volume, and have not noticed any audible distortion. The sound from these speakers is quite clean and crisp at all volumes, and their frequency response seems relatively flat. In fact, I would say there is a distinct risk of getting too comfortable with high volumes, since the speakers do not seem to distort easily.

Some reviewers have complained about the bass output of these speakers. Naturally I could not comment on their bass output through the STR-K700 because of the preset 120 Hz crossover, but the STR-AV210 had no such limitation. Listening to these with bass and treble at standard, even output levels (that is, without any sort of boost to any particular region of the frequency spectrum), the bass seems natural and more than adequate for listening to most music. Sure, a subwoofer can help hit the very lowest frequencies and leave the speakers free to deal with more inherently directional (> ~200 Hz) frequencies, and obviously with a 5.1 or 7.1 surround setup, a subwoofer will be necessary anyway to reproduce the discrete audio track. But these speakers would be able to hold their own without any help for most purposes. (I presume many of the complaints about bass stem from receiver issues as much as inherent limitations of the speaker.)

I am using these speakers as fronts in a 5.1 surround setup, and they fill this function superbly. They are also great for listening to music because of their clarity and even response. I highly recommend these speakers, especially for their incredibly modest price. Obviously it's possible to get better speakers, but probably not for the money."

What's not so great: Power. The base is not amazing, but you are getting one of the cheaper sets of floor speakers out there.

"I have had no complaints at all about this. College student who wanted decent speakers for not a lot of cash. College students tend to go pretty hard on their stuff, but these have held up and held their own. Granted they will not hold up if you have Snoop Dogg drop in like in Old School (consult Speaker City for that), but these things look really clean and put out a great sound. I had it hooked up to our flat screen tv for extra sound quality from the tv, and it worked perfectly through the receiver. I would highly recommend these. I'm sure you can find better quality out there, but not for this price. Very happy with this purchase."

"I bought these to use with my sherwood receiver, these are perfect speakers to chill and listen to music, also pretty good for movies. They do lack a little treb but it really some times depends on the receiver(my receiver is 50 per channel i think so thats probly why) the bass is pretty good as well they can make a few things rattle in my house, but if your looking for earth shaking bass GET A SUB, All and all these speakers have done their job, and still do ive had them for almost a year and a half now."
