What's great about it: Great price and quality, awesome lows, and great overall sound output. Get the 12" sub!
What's not so great: Not the prettiest subwoofer, but it makes up for that in sound output!
Owned for six years and it still works great! My Sony 12" subwoofer has been put through movies, games, and even loud techno (yes, don't judge)! Since it is a "low-end" subwoofer, it does have its output limits, but my subwoofer will easily overshadow the output my surround system is capable of. The fact that this thing still works to this day after six years shows how durable and quality built this speaker is. I originally bought the Klipsch 12" subwoofer (awesome output but didn't hit as low as the Sony could), and I don't regret returning the Klipsch to get the cheaper Sony.

What's great about it: amazing sub...bar-none
What's not so great: only freq. cut-off switch, no freq. control
this subwoofer is absolutely amazing. i got it on black friday for only $100. Even the original price is a steal. With my system set-up, when you turn it up you can feel the bass pounding in your chest. its an absolutely incredible subwoofer.

What's great about it: Took 2 seconds to setup, great sound
What's not so great: Control Location
Got this today, was on sale, got it home, took literally 15 seconds to setup, and was up and running great, works quite nicely with my Pioneer VSX-517 and accents my Bose 201's and VSC-10 quite nice.

Really great speaker -- couldn't wait to use it. I have a panasonic receiver and 5 sony speakers -- sounds great and hooked up very easily.

What's great about it: Good power for a budget price
What's not so great: None at all
I'm starting out small...well, kinda. For my home theater system, I bought a Sony 500w 5.1 receiver, and I'm currently using my Panasonic speakers from a 5.1 system I bought 3 years ago. Panasonic only made their subwoofer to connect to their unit, so I had to buy a component sub. This Sony subwoofer fit perfectly into my budget, and it works well with the town home I live in.

What's great about it: Inexpensive and Satisfying Bass at Low Listening Levels
What's not so great: Level/ Phase/ Cut Off Freq located in the rear.
I bought this SA-W3000 to replace my old SA-WM40. Overall, I am very satisfied with the purchase. As far as price, it was less than what I had paid for my old Sony eight years ago, so I am not complaining (on sale for $169.99). After reading some of the Customer Reviews, I agree about what has been said about its overall appearance. There is an option of concealing it behind a piece of furniture, behind a sofa, or oversized chair. Besides, isn’t a subwoofer supposed to be heard and not seen? Personally, I like it without the round grill cloth. Definitely, this subwoofer gives you plenty of “boom for the buck”. I would recommend this to anyone, and remember you can always return it; thanks to Best Buy’s no hassle return policy (30 days).

At the sale price of $99.99, this was an excellent buy. I don't think it's worth the normal full price of twice that.

After deciding to set up a home theater for Christmas, I realized the missing link was a subwoofer. Doing some fast research, I found this Sony 12 inch on sale on "Black Friday" I was disapointed to find out after placing the order that it wasn't in stock and would take 3 to 4 weeks to arrive.
The home theater arrived and thanks to the Geek Squad, they did a very nice install for me, but their departing words were, aren't you getting a subwoofer?
Well as soon as it gets here... Come on Best Buy...
A week before Christmas I got an email the order was being cancelled, and the same day I got one telling me my order had been shipped. Christmas Eve, it was on my doorstep. What a great Christmas present. The set up was easy, plug and play. Now the walls vibrate, plates in the china cabinet upstairs rattle when the dino walks in Jurassic Park... Well worth the wait, and the money spent, and now I understand why they stay out of stock. specially when you can catch it on a black Friday sale for 99.00 and free shipping

I read all the reviews before going to the store and picking on up! I upgraded it from my old standard sub-woofer that came with my Home Entertainment Center in a box. What a difference. Rich bass, loud as can be for the price. I love when it booms and vibrates my chest. Watching "World Trade Center" in HD with the bass maybe a quarter way, what an experience. Forget going to the movies, this completes the package!
If your looking to complete your Home Theater system without spending a lot of money, this is the one. Picked it up for 170. Not as low as some have spent but still worth the money. I would have payed the retail (non sale) price of 199.
Go and get it! It will complete your experience!!

I bought it for $99 and using it with Sony STRDG510 which was also on sale for $99.
for this price nothing can beat this sub!
the bass could be stronger but the 12" sub is so MUCH

What's great about it: good amount of power, deeper range than most cheap subs
What's not so great: auto-on takes a fair amount of volume to activate
This sub is a nice match for a simple 2.1 receiver in the 100W/ch range with a couple of mid-size bookshelf speakers. (I dislike surround for music, unless one has 5 grand to blow.) It has a deeper range than most others in this price bracket. It will fill a 12 x 14 room nicely. Just make sure your fragile stuff is velcroed down. Great for anything but hip-hop. Awesome for movies - just enough without being overwhelming, but there's headroom to play with as well.

What's great about it: great sound quality and great price
What's not so great: it is actually a 180-watt, not 200-watt
after reviewing everybody's reviews, and doing research on subwoofers, I was convinced that this SONY subwoofer was the best of all for its size, power and the price. Beware that this is actually a "180-watt" powered subwoofer, NOT "200-watt" as it is advertised.

What's great about it: outstanding bass easy setup and includes sub wire
What's not so great: none except the molding in the room is rattling after the first day
This sub is great. my uncle has 2 500 watt polk audio sub and in my 9' by 8' room its just as good. great price dont have to buy wires.

What's great about it: Easy to connect, Deep thundering bass, Auto Standby mode when no audio present
What's not so great: Makes a noticeable "click" when activated from "sleep mode"
I'm so pleased with this subwoofer, I'm getting a 2nd one. It's an incredible addition to any sound system, but most significantly for a 5.1 system. This is the "point 1" that really kicks butt. There is a variable input volume control for level setting and a tunable cutoff frequency control, ranging from 50hz to 200hz. I've got mine tuned in at about 100hz. A true THX system has the sub crossed over at 80hz, but it's more of a subjective taste as to where your bass sounds best. I'll be getting my 2nd unit in a couple of days and I plan on running them in tandom, flanking the main screen just below the front satellites. This is the deepest bass I've heard. The spec of reaching down to 20hz is definitely real.

What's great about it: Good price. Nice pound. Clear bass. Big sub box.
What's not so great: Slight distortion in low frequencies but i need to tune it
I managed to grab the last one left on black friday and it was only 100 bucks! The box was huge and could barely fit in the back of the car. I also bought the 100 dollar pioneer reciever on the same day then I went home, hooked it all up in my room and it sounded great. When i crank it up my windows will rattle outside very nicely. This is a great sub for the money.

This is a great sub-woofer and would be a great addition to any sound system. It has great sound and really kicks out the bass sound that fills the whole room and other rooms of the house. Easy to set up and with a great sound you can not go wrong with this Sub-woofer.

As black friday purchase, I did Zero research before buying this item. I got it home and it vibrates the siding on my house. Very Powerfull. Very user friendly and easy to install. 2 different input options is very nice also. Definately a high quality powerfull item. Just be careful because the size in the pictures is deceiving. This speaker box is huge! (a good thing) so I would just advise reading the dimentions and measuring where you plan on placing it just to make sure that it fits.

What's great about it: Price thump & easy hook up!
What's not so great: My downstairs neighbors now complain...thats it!
I recieved it last night,hooked it up in less than 10 minutes,now the room rumbles properly.Nice clean crisp thumpin' bass,just what I've been missing. The movies..the music have come to life! I finally know after 42 years what I've been missing on my home entertainment system! NOW I'M ENTERTAINED! Great sub!!!

I just purchased this a couple days ago...and im enjoying it so much. I noticed a big difference from my standard subwoofer 100 watts...to the 200 watts. Watching DVD movies is much more like at the theaters. I have been wanting to buy this for sometime...it was on sale so it was a perfect time to purchase. Great purchase im glad I upgraded.
