Movies Freeze Up

What's not so great: Images freeze up
I bought this DVD player at the end of February and for about a month I had no problems with it and thoroughly enjoyed watching my standard DVD's on my 50" Panasonic Plasma. Unfortunately, about a month after my purchase, movies began to freeze up on me. I brought it back to Best Buy who, in turn, had to send the machine out to Pioneer for repairs. I do not recall what the exact problem was but FIVE weeks later, I finally got the machine back. I used it a few times without a problem until just the other night when the same issue popped up again. I played about 5-6 different DVD's and had the same problem each time. I plan on bringing the player back to Best Buy and see if I can get a new player. Not sure if I plan on asking for the same model (if they allow me to exchange for a new one) or if I will try another brand. Too bad, I had heard so many good things about this player. Maybe it's isolated to this particular machine.

What's great about it: Inexpensive, slim
What's not so great: None
We have been through a lot of inexpensive dvd players in a very short period of time and they all seem to be junk. I purchased this one on sale and was a little skeptical. We have had this Pioneer for 4 months now and have not had a single issue with it. Previous models we have purchased were skipping and locking up after only a couple months of heavy use.

What's great about it: Color Adjusments, Div-x, easy set up
What's not so great: Will not support DVI adaption from HDMI
We bought this player after much careful review and comparison for our Digital projector. We have had Pioneer equipment for decades and the replaced DVD player is a seven year old Pioneer model. The biggest downside to the new player is that when connected to our projector, it will not drive HD signal through the HDMI to DVI cable, regardless of length. It will push 480p signal just fine. I would still recommend this player for DTVs as it is very adjustable and user friendly.

What's great about it: Price, fast load, detailed manual, tons of menu options, HDMI, front panel buttons
What's not so great: noisy, no optical audio output, takes forever to turn on/eject
Works great, although the laser / drive mechanism is noticeably audible. When turning on, it takes 3-5 seconds after pushing power to come on, with no indication. DivX playback is flawless, and audio from coax is great, but optical output would have been nice. Otherwise a GREAT value especially if you catch it on sale.

What's great about it: USB port, Up-Convert, Lots of video/audio output options
What's not so great: have to use the on-screen menu to start USB playback
This little DVD player is just great, it is easy to setup and use.
It has a clean layout and a great display.
I was glad that they added other non-DVD video formats like Divx.
I have not had any problems using this for music or videos from the USB port.
I really have to say that this is the best DVD player I have owned and I have had a few.

What's great about it: USB slot in front and excellent picture quality for the price
What's not so great: There's only one. Takes a long time to turn on.
Spent some time looking into all the different upconverting DVD players and finally decided to go with this one. There were two main reasons I chose this one. First, I love the USB slot in front and so far every video file I have on my computer has worked through the DVD player flawlessly. Second, this is the best upconverting picture quality I've run across yet. Even at a low price, it seems to really give the customer every little bit of their money's worth.
********************************
I've put the image and sound quality under heavy observation with many different movies and have found no complaints. The only thing that is definitely noticeable is the distinction between newer movies that have been put onto DVD and older movies that were transferred from vhs. The imperfections are noticeable on the latter of these two. But this is similar to any upconverting DVD player as it is the DVD’s fault not the players.
********************************
The only downside to this DVD player is the fact that it takes a few moments to come to life when you push the power button. I've pushed the open tray button and walked across the room to get the remote for the TV and come back to the DVD player just opening it then. This con was mentioned in reviews that I read before I purchased this unit, however this would not affect my over all impression of the DVD player.
********************************
I would definitely recommend it to a friend or family member...

What's great about it: USB Port is great for checkin out supported videos
What's not so great: player does not sem to auto switch WS/FS resolutions
I bought this player last summer and I have to say it's been working great. It's used every day for 4-8 hours. I love the USB and Divx support and was a key feature for getting it.
I hope that when Pioneer makes a Blu-Ray player that it will include these features.

What's great about it: none
What's not so great: Not multi-region
Not multi-regional - When i went to best buy i specificaly requested a multi-region player so that I could play region2. They showed me this product. This is the UK and not some unknown country. It will not play this region and is not a multi-region player. That is called false advertising.

What's great about it: Price, picture, HDMI output, ability to upconvert.
What's not so great: None.
System:
TV: Pioneer Kuro 5010P (50" Plasma)
DVD: DV-400V
Sound: Denon Receiver/Klipsch Reference Speakers
This DVD player is simply incredible. For $72 you truly cannot go wrong. I've had it for three weeks now and I've watched over 10 DVD's; great picture. I watched Sweeney Todd last night and although I didn't care for the movie, the picture was as perfect as you can get. It should be mentioned that I replaced my Samsung Blu-ray with this player because I could never get that blu-ray to work right. I can honestly say that this player upconverted the picture to 'near' blu-ray quality. You won't be disappointed.
The sound goes out through a Monster Ultra-Series THX 1000 digital coaxial cable and it's transferred flawlessly. This is simply a great buy and it's only $72.

What's great about it: Slim design, hooks up fast, sound is great, and picture is great
What's not so great: Nothing so far
I actually got this dvd player because the Toshiba model that I got previous had no power when connected to an outlet. I like Pioneer and couldn't complain on how easy it is to hook up and go. The sound is great and the choices are great. I would recommend this DVD player due to what is offered. I just wanted an upgrade from the DVD player that I got in 1999. I will eventually get a Blu-ray player, but will wait for the price to go down. Anyway, this one will probably be great once I get the HDMI cable for it, the cable is already on my B-day and X-mas list, and I already have a HDTV. Great buy for the price.

What's great about it: Just about everything
What's not so great: It takes about 3-5 seconds to turn on after you push the power button.
This is the second Pioneer dvd player that I have purchased and they are both excellent players. I used to think all dvd players were the same until I bought a Pioneer. What a difference a good quality dvd player makes. This dvd player is slim, quiet and works great everytime. If you hook it up to an HD tv make sure you go into the dvd players menu and set it up correctly, otherwise it doesn't upconvert the signal. Once it is set up correctly it has a very nice picture. If you buy a pioneer dvd player you will not be dissapointed.

What's not so great: BREAKS!
We bought this dvd player in 4 months ago. It was great, easy to use, and really small. Then the other night, it kept saying "No disc" over an over.. Turns out the motor inside is broken, and we have to pay $50 to ship it to pioneer to have it fixed. Absurd! I love everything pioneer EXCEPT this dvd player! If you get one that doesn't break, it's great.

What's great about it: 1080p Upconversion, USB Port, Excellent Picture Quality
What's not so great: Annoying delay when turned on, Only compatible with FAT32 drives,
I've owned this dvd player for almost 2 months now and I am very satisfied with it. The player upconverts all my dvds to 1080p and has excellent video. One thing thats also convenient is the fact that the player has a USB port which means that I can plug in my flash drive or my external hard drive and play my audio, video and picture files. It is only compatible with drives that are formatted to FAT32 and not NTFS which took me a day or two to figure out since the manual was not very clear on it (I actually thought it was malfunctioning but it wasn't). Another annoying thing is that the player has a delay when it is powered on. This has no affect on its performance but I just find it a little annoying that there is about a 2-3 second delay between me powering it on and it actually responding. This would have been a 5 star product if not for those 2 minor problems, however this is still a great value for the price.

What's great about it: Small Footprint...Good Quality
What's not so great: Display Delay on Power-On
This is the second Pioneer DVD player I've owned, and it is a quality unit. I have also owned players from Sony and Panasonic. I think the quality is equal with the Sony and better than the Panasonic, but I think overall the Pioneer is more user-friendly than the Sony. I really like the depth of the unit. My TV stand is curved, so I don't have room for deep equipment; this player fits perfectly. My only complaint is a minor one. On mine, the LED display does not display anything for about 5 seconds. If I am changing DVD's and do not have the video on the TV, sometimes I impatiently press the power button too many times and it shuts back off.
