What's great about it: It's the only system that plays Halo 3 What's not so great: Have to pay for all the "extras"
"We've had all the Playstations including the PS3. It's simple, works great, and is chock full of technology that will ensure it's a purchase that can be expected to last at least 7 years or longer like it's predecessor. The 360 we just got so my son could play Halo 3 only to discover it costs another $100 to hook up to our wi-fi internet. Most games are available on both consoles so that's not a rational reason to make such an investment. The 360 may be cheaper to purchase, but costs a lot more in the long run and Microsoft ties you into their products. Sony is much more open and doesn't care if you use their headsets and cameras or somebody else's. They simply use Bluetooth and USB standards.

Other factors to consider is the reliability of the hardware. Most of our friends who have the 360 have experienced the "Red Ring of Death" at least once. We know of one who had it three times. Some have been buying the PS3 now and none have had problems. Ours is 2 years old and never had a problem.
Blue Ray advantage - it's not just for HD video. BR stores about 10x the data that a standard DVD does and is capable of handling much larger game content so only one disk is needed. MS offered a HD-DVD drive for an additional $170, but HD-DVD format is now defunct and no longer supported. The durability of BR disk is much improved over DVD and resists scratches better.
Online gameplay - XBox Live costs money. PS3 is free. While there may be subtle differences between them, both provide the basic functionality of playing games online with other people. Both have trophies, downloadable content, chat, e-mail, etc. No big advantages worth paying for. The upcoming PS Home will be quite impressive as it's a full virtual environment and free to boot.
Quality of components - I was amazed at the size of the power brick that comes with the 360. The PS3 power supply is built into it's case. Much cleaner appearance and easier to place within the home theater setup. The wireless controllers for the 360 use AA batteries and rechargeable packs cost extra. The PS3 controllers have the batteries built in and recharge using standard USB connectors. You can use them while charging if you connect the USB cable. Honestly though the PS3 controllers last 8-10 hours on a charge.
Ongoing support - have you noticed that when the 360 was released that all game development for the original XBox ceased? They are still publishing games for the PS2 10 years after it's release and two years after the PS3 release. With the already aging technology in the 360, I don't foresee Microsoft having more than a couple years left in it's life cycle before they release their next generation console. PS consoles are typically a good investment for 10 years. XBox was about 5 years. I doubt the 360 will do much better.
The ONLY advantage I've seen from owning both consoles is the couple of exclusive games to be had. Otherwise if you're wanting to make an investment in a game console and don't like wasting money, the XBox 360 is NOT worth it. Go for the PS3. It's got it's own list of really good exclusive titles as well. Not to mention Sony's history with 10 year console life cycles."

"I had the original Xbox 360 without the HDMI. The unit worked fine until recently it froze up during game play. For awhile the drive door was an issue with not openning at startup. I had to tap it with my fingers until it opens. Once CD is in it. It works fine openning and closing. Now it froze up. So I went and got the Xbox 360 Elite. I was accustom to having a 120GB because I had changed out my 20GB. Overall the new system is great no issue. I will get a cooling system to add to it. Also I did get the 2 year warranty. I was not willing to take the chance without the warranty."

"I got my first 360 when they first went on the shelves in stores. A couple of months ago I got the red ring of death and was faced with a crucial decision either to get the PS3 or XBOX 360 ELITE. PS3 has some amazing technology that I absolutely love, but XBOX 360 has better games at least for my taste. Even though PS3 is the better system, 360 has the best games and if you are a serious gamer like me, you know that is all that matters. So far everything works just fine, I wish they had included the "earset" and not the cheap headset with the elite, but whatever. Even though this system runs better than previous 360's, I strongly recommend going with the 2 yr service plan $60 and buying the fan attachment $25 because you would rather be safe than get the red ring of death and have $400 thrown away."

"I bought my Xbox 360 Elite more then a year ago it is just as good as the day i opened the box. I bought it because I liked the black color more and then much larger hard drive that it had. 120 GB is plenty of room for me to put my music, movies, and pictures all onto one system. The HDMI port makes it alot easier to hook up to your HDTV without going out and having to buy a HDMI cable and adapter for the regular xbox (old 20 GB). But the best part is hat it comes with a different processor, decreasing the chance of getting the "red ring of death" tremendously. nearly all my friends with normal xboxs have gotten this, yet I have not. It is easy to use and access the internet through, and use as a DVD player. If I want to change the language or anything else, I dont have to go back to the title menu. I can just use the xbox controller and change it in mid-movie. The only problem is that if you want everything that you buy for your xbox to match (like me), you'll have a tough time. Almost all of the xbox accessories are made for the normal 360(white) and not for the elite, so there is black and white everywhere. But even if you do end up having a problem with your xbox, Microsoft will have you send it to them FOR FREE (within a year of purchase) and if they cant fix it, they will give you a new one. It has become one of the best buys (no pun intended) I have ever made. Could not be happier with it."

"I bought my Xbox 360 Elite from a Best Buy around 1/1/08 and it is still in perfect working condition. It never got the RRoD (Red Ring of Death), which I am relieved about. If you are choosing a console out of the current-generation ones that are out now, the Xbox 360 is the best choice. Incredible 1080p graphics, an immensely fun experience on Xbox LIVE, and great games that are still worth playing after 10 months are just a few of many great reasons to choose an Xbox 360. After selling my Wii to save up for the 360 I was very pleased with my choice, as anyone would be."

"This is the high end of Microsoft's 3 Xbox versions. If you know you're going to hook up to an HDTV, and prefer the Black Console and Black Wireless Controller, this is definitely the way to go.
My only real complaint about this product is that the Wireless Adapter is sold separately. For what Microsoft charges for the Xbox 360 Elite, the Wireless Adapter really should be included (or at least offered to buyers at a significant discount). Also, there is a risk of early breakdown with any Xbox product, but Microsoft claims that risk has been reduced with this new 120 GB version of the Xbox 360 Elite, let's hope they're right.
On November 19, Microsoft will push the upadted Dashboard to networked Xboxes, one of the many new features expected is the ability to store games on the Xbox Elite's 120 GB Hard Drive. Storing games on the Hard Drive will eliminate the whirring of the DVD Drive that typically accompanies gaming consoles.
One note: look out for certain discount stores selling the old 80 GB version of the Xbox Elite for the same price as Best Buy sells the new 120 GB version!"
