Best tripod i've used so far. Holds my heavy canon rebel xsi w/ my long lenses. At first i didn't like it because there was one part of it i thought wasn't working, but then i realized that there was a missing part. Other than that overall great experience, not very heavy, and easy to carry with the rest of my equipment.
What's great about it: Durable

Well let me start this out with, The Tri-pod was listed at 199$ at my local store, i purchased one, took it home, it was obviously used and was missing a piece. Took it back, and mentioned i had seen it at the other best buy in town for a lower price, and somehow Ta-Da 99$. Well when i finally got the second one home all I can say is wow. To this point I have been using a handy-down from my mother and I can instantly can feel the difference. I have a heavy canon 50d and a big lense and flash so my gear is pretty heavy, The Velbon holds the weight very sturdily and the overall manufacturing of the tri-pod is top-notch. I went to a local camera store before coming to best buy and they tried to sell me the very same(or identical version velbon) of tri-pod except their price was 350$. This is by-far the best deal i have seen for a proessional level tri-pod. So Far so good I will update in a year or so to see how it lasts.
What's great about it: Quality
What's not so great: ummmmmm

I bought this tripod in connection with the purchase of a Lowepro Trekker AW II backpack so I could take my gear and tripod hiking. The tripod is lightweight, yet sturdy -- good for hiking. Also, because it's carbon fiber, you don't have to worry about water, (I've set this up in slow-moving, stagnant streams for some shots). The pan & tilt head has a quality movement. If you're after a pan & tilt lighweight tripod that can handle some weight, this one does a fine job. The main con for this item is it has a fixed head (can't be swapped for a quick release or a ball mount). Also, height on this tripod may be an issue as to get it eye level, requires a substantial portion of the column be raised above the intersection of the 3 legs. This can decrease stability, but I haven't found it to be much an issue. Overall, I give this a 4 out of 5. It's pricey, but built solid and light enough to carry around with you while hiking without killing you. If you're mainly indoors or don't mind a tripod with some extra heft, I'd go with something else.
What's great about it: lightweight
What's not so great: No cheap

As with many things in life, buying a tripod is an exercise in managing trade-offs. Crucial factors like height and stability come at the expense of increased weight. Strong lightweight materials like carbon fiber and magnesium increase the price. The Velbon El Carmagne 530 does a very nice job of balancing these trade-offs. It is light, just under 4lbs and sturdy enough to support all but the heaviest camera and lens combos. For years I used a Bogen tripod/head. It was a great tripod, but it weighted almost 10lbs and I often would not carry it because it was just too darn heavy. I learned that a tripod that you leave in the car is no better than no tripod at all. At less than 1/2 the weight of my Bogen, I am much more likely to actually carry and use this Velbon. Most carbon fiber tripods are very expensive, but Best Buy sells this one for under $200. Adorama Camera and B&H Photo offer the same tripod for $90 more! Of course, no tripod is perfect. The 530 DOES NOT HAVE A QUICK RELEASE PLATE, something that any tripod that retails for almost $300 should have, but you can buy a separate adapter to convert it to quick release if you want that feature. And the pan and tilt handle must be removed to completely fold the tripod and store it in the included case. These are minor issues (those pesky trade-offs again) and may or may not be important to individual photographers. Overall this is a great tripod at a very reasonable price.
What's great about it: Lightweight, sturdy, price
What's not so great: No quick release plate, could be easier to use

Everything is conveniently and smoothly adjustable: angles in all planes, all lengths and heights. The tripod is tough and well made. Comes with a good quality shoulder bag and a stone bag. I guess one needs a stone bag to avoid accidentally tilting or moving the tripod, since it is very light. The tripod is so light that sometimes I feel like a slight push would tilt it, so when changing angles I prefer to hold one of its legs, which have a nice, soft cover for a good grip (it is not just a bare carbon). But I think the tripod has a good balance of weight being light enough to be light to carry and being stable enough when used.
What makes this tripod not 100% perfect is that the angles changing handles wobble 15-20% of an inch when not tightened to fix an angle, so to start changing some angle in the opposite direction one has to move a handle a little bit in the new a direction before the camera starts turning in the new direction as well.
What's great about it: Conveniently and smoothly adjustable, light, tough and well made.
What's not so great: The angle changing handles move a little when not tightened.

I'm never buying a "cheap" tripod again. I have owned about 4 tripods before this one. One by one they have broke. To many times the weight of the camera made the tripod move, or parts not being tight enough... With this tripod (so far) I have never needed to use my self timer in order to take a picture because I was afraid of my finger moving the camera. This is worth the price. Plus it is carbon fiber. It only weights a little over 3 lbs. This is a great tripod. I would recommend this to anyone with a dslr!

I purchased this tripod to go with the Nikon D200 and what an incredible addition! The tripod is fully adjustable and allows you to get the angle you need to get your shot. It is amazingly light weight and easy to use. Highly recommended.
