What's great about it: Would make a nice bookend.
What's not so great: Unreliable, No Support, Cannot Upgrade
Own the WRVS4400N V1.1. Can't speak for the V2.0
Purchased 2 units for VPN capabilities. Not "user friendly" or "out of the box" up and running. Owner should have better than average networking knowledge and know to set up and maintain connectivity, and internet knowledge base to find and upgrade to current firmware. Once set up and running, worked 70% of the time. I would consider it unreliable as it had to be monitored continuously to make sure the VPN connections stayed "up". Wireless range is good. I found no support for this product from Cisco, so you are on your own after purchase. If you can't get it to work don't waste your time with Cisco, return it to the store for a refund. Maybe Best Buy will put pressure on Cisco for better support. The final straw was that both units crash with the use of Apple's Facetime, regardless of port and DMZ tweaking. Replaced the WRVS4400N V1.1 router with an old Linksys WRT54G and Facetime works fine, but of course no VPN.

What's great about it: It's potential capabilities and security features makes this a great SOHO access point.
What's not so great: Support has dropped to 0 since Linksys was acquired by Cisco.
Ah for the days of Linksys support. I could not recommend this routerr/access point to anyone with a critical need for network accessibility at this time.

I normally don't like to have an all-in-one solution as hardware of this kind is more reliable separate, but I needed something light for my home/personal use.
This has it all, router, gigabit switch, wireless-N, VPN, multiple SSID, VLAN, IPv6, static IP mapping, IPS, what else would one need? I'm also using this as a site-to-site VPN with another router (WRV54G). Avoid the WRV54G.
If you want a rock solid solution, I recommend the RV series. I replaced a RV042 with this WRV4400N just because I wanted the extra features, but the RV042 is bulletproof where the WRV4400N can be taken to its knees if you throw allot at it and you know what you're doing.
If you are a SOHO or for personal use this should be a great solution. Although, if you need something more system critical then I recommend something else. But for what this is and what I am using it for, I love it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Easy to set QOS per IP address, firewall easy to use
What's not so great: Price was kind of high
First of all, I am not an IP guru , nor have I ever taken any formal classes. My experiance rating is low. IP guys would run circles around me by walking slow. But with the online help it made everything a whole lot easier.
I bought this in March 2008 and had no trouble so far. I've only did one frimware update which, if I recall correctly took 5 min to do, did get a little scared because the load bar stopped for about a minute or two. I'm at frimware v1.1.03.
QOS was easy to set, when my kids grades are down or on the computer to long all of a sudden the PC got a virus which interrupted their online chat or gaming. Haven't done any VPN as I don't need it. VLAN was not that easy but got it to work. P2P blocking is a snap. Port fowarding was a little trying but works great.
I've, also, used the WRT310N access point, which I had to get rid of to get the WRT160N, they all worked great together. Got the WRT160N because of my son's gaming; PS3, Laptop and other game consoles ... spoiled brats lol.
Anyway, I feel it is something that is great to have when you need a network solution for the home.

What's great about it: hmmm...
What's not so great: Intermittent connectivity & Poor support
I've had this product not quite a full year. I began having intermittent DNS issues which were resolved by simply resetting the router. After upgrading firmware, perusing Cisco forums & several weeks trying to get tech support resolve the issue, I am moving away from Linksys products altogether. Tech support implied updates for this product were not a priority as the lead engineer is working on products generating more call volume.
If you buy, you'll eventually be sorry. Save yourself the frustration now!

What's not so great: Spotty service, constant failure
I bought this router for use in my home office, which has 5 different machines and a NAS for remote users. Based on the Linksys / Cisco name, I assumed it would be a solid machine. I was wrong.
Almost from the beginning, it would often lose connection and require a reboot. I upgraded the firmware twice, but didn't get anything better than what it was out of the box. After about 6 months of repeated problems, I moved on to a different (non-Cisco) router and haven't looked back. I doubt I'll ever purchase another Cisco product.

What's great about it: Lots of features
What's not so great: Lots of instability
Well, I've generally had fairly good experiences with most Linksys products but this is a lemon. Fortunately as another poster mentioned Cisco is now managing this product...support from a code perspective was non-existent Cisco is at least releasing code now.
After aquiring a couple BETA versions of code from a Linksys forum v1.1.13 does finally offer some level of stability...reboots are now down to once or twice every few months compared to any earlier code that often required reboots every day to keep it operational.
It is still finicky, wireless and VPN stability levels are still less than stellar.
...maybe the WRVS4400Nv2 will be better.

What's great about it: The speed is REALLY fast
What's not so great: Cannot download from FTP sites
Let me save you some trouble...this router has some issues. Don't get me wrong, I like Linksys, but this product needs work. It is known by Linksys that this product will NOT download from FTP sites. The newest firmware is dated back in 2007. I talked to tech support and the guy told me that they can't seem to get the firmware to perform right to release. He also told me not to waste my time...return it. This has been an issue since the beginning...check out this Linksys forum.

What's great about it: Nothing....
What's not so great: does not live up to advertised functionality whatsoever!
having worked in the IT field for over 20 years I have never come across a piece of junk quite as bad as this thing! Multiple reboots to keep connected, QOS that reverts to whatever protocol it feels like, VPN that DOES NOT WORK AT ALL!!
I have tried everything with this piece of garbage to include third party vpn clients, opensource firmware binaries, etc, etc, and nothing keeps this thing afloat. Buy something else and save yourself the headaches!

What's great about it: can be used as repeater, based on cisco, good range.
What's not so great: pricey, though it is worth it.
I have been using this router for a year.
Six months ago I typed DD-Wrt into wikipedia and found that the firmware on the router can be updated.
The learning curve for using the router is well planned. A novice can connect and secure their internet. An expert can broadcast multiple SSID signals with differing levels of security, depending on what they are doing at the time. As well as connecting to multiple other routers and repeating their internet access to gain speed.
I would recommend that this router is the best networking product I have ever used. Although it will require setup to get the most out of it.

What's great about it: Great Range, great speeds
What's not so great: Not very user friendly
I have owned this router for a little over a year now and have had nothing but great results with it. If you are an advanced user looking to get alot out of a router, then this is the router for you! However, if you are a basic user looking just for better wireless range, I recommend purchasing something less expensive.

What's great about it: 3 year warranty
What's not so great: You will need the 3 year warranty frequently
I've had this router for almost a year now. I have RMA'd it once and now need to RMA the replacement.
The router worked great for a while but slowly started to degrade in performance and then started to make a high pitch whine (on both routers)... the "DIAG" light stays on and will not route traffic anymore. I would be interested to see reviews of other buyers after they've had the router for a year (to compare notes).
I love Linksys (primarily because they are backed by Cisco now) and will continue using their products but this product is a lemon, strongly NOT recommended until they release a hardware revision. I have v1.0.

What's not so great: Can not FTP out from behind it
Had this up and working, and the next day I attempted to use FTP to update a website. Much to my surprise, after updating firmware, and 2 - 3 hours with linksys Tech Support We found out that it would not support the use of FTP.
Returned it to store.
