Great performance, easy setup

I could basically just pop this out of it's box and plug it in. I had an old RCA box from when we converted over from Primestar, and it wasn't working well with our new TV. Didn't want to pay for the HI Def stuff. This improved the reception and picture immensely.
What's great about it: I like the guide better than our old one; Setting it up was easy
What's not so great: Took a while to get through to Directv for activating the box
I would recommend this to a friend!

It just sits there and plays.. It doesn't nag if i put my feet on the coffee table, it doesn't mind if i have a second beer, if it gets too loud i can instantly mute it..
Overall its a excellent investment..
What's great about it: It works
What's not so great: It won't go to the fridge or bathroom for me..

Purchased product online. Product delivered within a couple of days of ordering. Easy to understand the setup menu/process. Remote control was easy to program with my tv and dvd player. Search features are nice. Easy access to program description. Overall, a good deal for the price.
What's great about it: Easy to setup and good price

My experience purchasing this product online and then being informed that it was ready just when just few minutes went by was grate.
What's great about it: Easy the process of purchasing it.
What's not so great: Line to pick up product was running slow.

I bought this receiver as a second unit to work with my Media PC. I have a H-21, but the IR Blaster only worked with it about 85% of the time. Tis was due to the receiver being sluggish in responding to any input. In this instance, the D-12 worked fantastic, and couldn't ask for more.
Also, since I now have two receivers, I can have the luxury of recording one program and watching another.
It was difficult to rate it to high, as the unit is so very basic and includes minimal outputs.On the other hand, if you want something cheap, and responsive, I recommend it.
What's great about it: Cheap, Easy To Set up, Decent Picture
What's not so great: Limited outputs

This is your standard receiver for DirecTV without much frills. Just use it right out of the box. It has outputs for older TVs (coaxial) as well as newer TVs (RCA composite and S-video). It can be controlled exclusively by the remote. My only (small) gripe with it is that its response time to the remote can be slow (e.g. scrolling through the channel guide; searching for shows). Other than that I'm quite happy with it.
What's great about it: Good quality. Easy to use.
What's not so great: Slow response time to remote.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I bought the DirecTV dish and receiver in 1999, installed it myself, and have been paying monthly service for a premium package since then. Last December 2007 my receiver stopped working. I could order a receiver from them for 19.99 shipping or buy one at Best Buy for 60 dollars, I was told the receiver I had was obsolete, but I was never notified of this. It would have been January before I got their unit so I purchased one at Best Buy.
In November 2008 my Dish seemed to not be working properly and I was unable to get any information from DirecTV. Their upgrades are for new customers only.
In December 2008 I signed up for Dish TV, got equipment upgrades and at least the same programming or more at less than I was paying for DirecTV. I called to cancel my DirecTV service and was told I would owe 120 dollars for the remainder of the 18 month contract on the receiver I bought last December 2007. The documentation from the receiver I bought and the DirecTV billing did not have any reference to an 18 month contract. I assume I will have to pay. Also the receiver belongs to DirecTV and they sent me a box to return the unit to them. I am very disappointed in the way I have been treated after being a loyal customer for at least 10 years. I would not recommend this company to anyone.
What's great about it: set up easily, works great
What's not so great: DirecTV 18 month unbreakable lease
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

While I have had good service from Directv, I have just dicovered this unit is only leased and must be returned if you don't use it or it malfunctions. We had a lightning strike nearby which shorted our old unit. I purchased and activated a new unit 6 weeks ago, and was very surprised yesterday when DirecTv called back the damaged unit. As I have already disposed of it, I now owe an additional $55.00 to DirecTv. It would have been nice to know this fact sooner, either from DirecTv or BestBuy
What's great about it: low price
What's not so great: this is a lease not a purchase

This is an excellent buy for just the basic receiver. It's really a no frills box but it gets the job done well. The scrolling on the menu and between the guide setting is extremely quick compared with the slow response time of the DVR. Plus the auto-tune feature is a nice added bonus so you never forget to watch a show.
I would definitely recommend this box if you aren't needing the DVR.
What's great about it: Very easy to use, Quick Menu Scrolling
What's not so great: None so far.

This is NOT a Digital Box and after calling DTV 5 times and not getting an answer I called Best Buy and they told me that Composite, S-video and RF Coaxial outs were all ANALOG unless you get the higher quality receivers. This is what I was told and it seems dumb but they were all that way at DTV.
What's not so great: Not a DIGITAL Box
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I've been a DirecTV customer for a while. This receiver pretty much gets the job done and without any issues. The only complain I have is the delay when you scroll through the TV guide. I wish it's more responsive but not really a big issue though.
What's great about it: Reliable
What's not so great: Slow menu scrolling

If you're sick of cable as I was, you'll get Directv. The channels are in better quality. You get more channels for the price than cable. The service can't even be compared with cable. Rarely is there an interruption in broadcast and I have trees all over around here. Doesn't go up in price every 6 months. They treat consumers as though they were actually consumers. Does cable do these things? No.
What's great about it: every channel is digital quality
What's not so great: none

I have purchased my Direct receiver about a year or so ago.I am very pleased with the product. I have heard rumors that if you do not but the product from the manufacturer, you will have problems. But, I was also pleased that I did not receive that kind of service. The employees at Best But were very helpful and knowledgable about the product I was looking for.This in turn made me realize that the"myth" about not purchasing a product from the manufacturer was exactly a "MYTH".I have not had any major problems with my receiver and Best Buy was a great choice ,on my part, to purchase the receiver from. They gave me service very quickly for it also.
I would recommend this to a friend!
