Worth the dough
09/15/2008
By Austinjvalfrom LA
Pros: Sound quality, bass, cord options, sound isolation. Cons: Almost to clear...
"These earphones are pretty amazing. I've owned a couple lower end Shure earphones and these blow them away. The bass sounds awesome with Rap, Punk, and Metal. Their clarity is also great, almost too clear. Some of the music I have isn't the best quality and you can hear all the flaws with the recording. The PTH thing is pretty cumbersome. I purchased these for the gym, snowboarding, mountain biking etc. The PTH unit does what it says but it's way too cumbersome for any of these activities and not worth the $50 bucks unless you're gonna wear them in an office or plane or something like that. Spoil yourself, you won't regret it. Besides if you don't like them you can return 'em."

Great disappointment!!!!

"Except for the tweeter its the same as a SONY Earphone worth $30. No trace of woofer. Trust me....Without listening to it dont buy it. I purchased this product for a whooping price of $540. Didnt even used for an hour, I took it to the nearby store and returned it. Ended up paying jus the shipping price. If u gr8 fan trance and techno dont go for this. Try other ear phones and u can make out the difference."

Amazing Sound
07/06/2008
By Kmr1
Pros: Spectacular sound quality, small design, impressive balance of lows/mids/highs Cons: Expensive; PTH module plastic not up to grade; like all similarly designed earbuds, you can hear your bodily noises
"The SE530 PTH earphones are truly impressive. It's amazing that Shure manages to fit two woofers and a tweeter in each ear yet they still remain in a compact earbud design. Once you get used to the way to wear them and choose the right tip, they are comfortable to wear and reduce a comfortable amount of noise. Turn on your music at low volume and noises all but disappear. The sound quality is excellent - as it should be for the price. The earbuds truly shine when listening to jazz and complex recordings. As expected at this level, you can pick out intricate details that you may never have heard, even on your multi-thousand dollar audio home system. On the other hand, when you listen to digital media on your computer or laptop, you'll notice how terrible the music file's quality is. I suggest bumping up bit rates noticeably higher or else it can be a bit painful to listen to. Likewise, you can hear the slight hum of the ipod amplifier. It's even worse when I hook it up to my Lenovo Thinkpad laptop. A screeching noise constantly accompanies being plugged into its earphone output. When I route it from my laptop through my denon receiver the sound quality is better and the screeching is subdued. I barely use the PTH module. The quality of the plastic is sadly lacking. The rest of the 530 materials are of a much higher caliber. I would still suggest buying the PTH model over the regular one because of the convenience when traveling and it's cheaper to buy it together at $50 versus separately at $70. Because of the modular design, you can easily adjust the length of the cord either plugging in the PTH or using the durable long or short cables. My other concern is that the semi hard case only fits the headphones and cords.. Not the PTH module nor all of the adapters. Great product overall. If you are serious about your music, there is no better product. I would hope that those considering purchasing this product do so. It brings that added dimension to music that is uncommon in todays portable music."

Incredible Headphones on Earth
06/24/2008
By BigAppleCircusfrom New York, NY
"I live and work in the heart of New York City, and I commute everywhere using Metropolitan Transit Authority ("MTA") public transportation ( read buses, subway, tram, etc. ). There is plenty of inherent noise in NYC. The other day, I was walking on the sidewalk, and a parade of emergency vehicles passed ( fire, EMT, police ) with all their sirens blaring at deafening decibels. I did not hear them coming right next to me until they had passed and I saw the sirens -only then did I turn on the PTH feature on my SE530s. You absolutely can hear no ambient noise with these earphones in your ear. The Shure SE530PTH earphones make NYC totally quiet!!! The sound quality and precision is absolutely amazing. They have NO EQUAL ( not Bose, which I own too ) and nothing even comes close to these headphones. They actually make badly made MP3 files sound better -you can absolutely hear every high and low note from your music. Bass is so crisp, not muffled -and highs are pitch perfect. Yes, they are worth that much more than even the best headphones on the market. I can also wear them for 12 hours with not even the slightest discomfort in my ear. Just completely amazing! If you don't think that you should pay $500 for headphones, just demo these and I guarantee you will not be able to walk away without purchasing these headphones. If you value your music, the sound, your comfort, then fork over the $500 and pick up a pair of these Shure SE530PTH. Totally AMAZING!!!"

Best Headphones You Can Buy
05/07/2008
By combsfrom Denver, CO
Pros: Much better than mid-ranged Shure headphones Cons: Expense
"I know this thing is expensive, but honestly I have had several other mid-ranged Shure headphones (lost or eaten by my dog). The extra $100 is well worth it. It's like the difference between a Toyota and a Benz.
The 1st reason is the ear bud covers feel very nice. I always had a slight problem with the lesser models. The 2nd reason is that it comes with every conceivable connector (iPhone, airplane, etc.). And perhaps the most important is the little microphone interceptor hand held thing. Basically, I have these in my ears six to eight hours a day and when ever someone wants to talk to me I have to pull them out of my ears because they insulate outside noise so much. What this microphone thing does is that you push a button and you can hear the outside world. DUDE this is great for an office an I would pay several hundred more for this one great feature.
The people at Shure really did their homework refining their best pair."

Best ear phones out there.
02/16/2008
By Isonfrom Wichita, KS
Pros: Don't fall out when you're working out, you couldn't hear a dump truck go through a nitroglycerin plant w/ them in Cons: Don't where them when your girlfriend is talking to you ;) NONE!
"I have progressed through the Shure line-up from the SE 110's to the SE 420's and finally to the SE 530 PTH. All are fantastic pieces, but let's not kid ourselves, the SE 530 PTH's are hands down the best earphones you can buy. I know...I've bought the other models and compared them side by side. Amazing sound quality, you'll hear things in music you didn't know were there. Think of the Shure line ups like BMW's...the entry level SE 110's are the 3 series and you can continue to upgrade till you get to the SE 530's.....the M5. You'll be impressed w/ any of them, I assure you that...but, my advice, hold off on settling w/ a model down...keep your stock Ipod ear buds another few months till you save up the extra coin for these bad boys ;) OH...the push to hear is a lot more useful than I would have figured."

Pros: Great sound period Cons: nothing
"Thse are fantastic. Not only do they eliminate sound and offer a built in mic to pick up somebody talking to you, they sound the best. I have some $300 Grado headphones and these blow them away."

Finally, bass and lightweight in the same sentence
10/13/2007
By Tindofrom New York, NY
Pros: Incredible highs, encompassing lows, and everything inbetween! Cons: price, but not really. you get what you pay for
"Ive spent the same as these in-earphones cost over the years for cheap useless head/earphones. If I had bought these back then I would still have them. The are just incredible. You get bass you would get with a Home theater system with a modular bass driver. They dont weigh a thing, so they cant be compared to premium headphones, except that they produce the same great sound without the bulk. Something they also do great is sound Isolation. I play mine at minimum volume, and thats enough to stand outside on Central Park west and not hear a singe thing but the music. PTH is also great. Spending 550 on these now, doesnt hurt nearly as much, as the realization that Ive spend 550 on ipod earphones over the years."
