I have been through many difference kinds of earbuds in search of the perfect pair. I have tried several different Shure models. Went up to this one because it was supposed to be the ultimate. When I first listened to them, I was very disappointed. Bass is supposed to be really good on these, its no better than the lesser Shure models. In general, I have a hard time telling the difference between the SE530 and the the couple of models lower down the shure product line. The sound good but NOWHERE near $500 worth of good. A friend of mine let me try a $50 pair of skullcandy earbuds, they had better base and almost sounded as good in the mid and high range. I say, don't buy these they are not worth the money. Yes, I tried equalizer settings, have had them long enough for 'break in" ,etc. I did call Shure as I thought maybe mine were defective, and they said "yeah, you are not going to get great bass out of these". Very disappointing. I think some people feel compelled to rave about these after plopping down so much cash for them. Not me, I will admit to the mistake.
What's great about it: durable, crisp high and mid range
What's not so great: almost no bass, in general did not blow me away
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I own a pair. The sound stage is awesome. I can hear every detail. I don't use them except when secluded as not to damage them. Paid too much to risk damage. The only thing they lack is the deep accruate bass. If they had the deep bass they would definitly be the best. No matter how many times I changed the sleeves they would not create that accurate deep bass. That's the only thing they lack. Other than that I would recommend them.
What's great about it: The sound isolation.
What's not so great: The price too extreme.

They are great headphones but you need to decide if they are really worth the cost. They do block out allmost all surroiunding noises. With the microphone attachment they work awesome in airpots for confernece calls. I also own the the Bose QC3 and QC15's and the Shure earbuds block even more noise.
What's great about it: They block out all noises. You can mow the lawn and barely hear the mower. Fly on a plane and never hear the crying baby
What's not so great: PRICE not shure the sound quality is $400+ great.

I never considered myself an audiophile, but I do notice differences in sound quality, and then I listened to these earphones by Shure. I know the price is high, but you know you have to pay for quality. If you want to know what sounds you are missing in your music, if you want to hear the songs with every detail...then buy these. Be warned though...once you listen to your music with these...there is no going back to anything else. I thought the Bose earphones were good enough...I was wrong.
What's great about it: You will never own better earphones

These are the greatest earphones I have ever owned. I have owned westone, bose, sony, and countless others. These shatter the competition with their excellent clarity. I can hear every note from every instrument. The highs are clean and undistorted. Many say these phones have the best sounding midrange in sound equipment. I think they were right. Everything sounds real, crisp, and lively. They kind of have a warm sound to them. I love the sound isolation too. They block out pretty much all outside noise. They are comfortable and I can wear them for hours on end. Also, they sound great no matter what the volume is on my ipod. There is almost no fuzzy distortion with these.
So if you are thinking of getting a pair of cruddy skullcandies or sony buds, think about shure earphones. These may be out of reach, but they also make other products that are awesome.
These are great headphones, PERIOD.
What's great about it: Sound clarity, comfort, bass, sound isolation
What's not so great: heavy cable, steep price(for most)

I was reluctant to make this purchase because I've gone to great lengths over the past 2 years to find headphones that fit my purpose. I've purchased Bose, Sony, Phillips, Apple and some other brand I can't remember. I decided to try one more time and if these didn't work I would return them and then I would just go to Radio Shack and buy something cheap and "Off the Rack" whenever the would quit working.
I'm glad I took the risk. After going over the handbook I hooked up and didn't get what I expected. But nothing good comes easy. I made the adjustments in the equipment I'm using them with and kept "tweaking" until I heard the most beautiful audio I have heard from headphones in my life. You hear everything! You miss nothing. The "Push to Hear" accessory keeps my wife happy. All she has to do is reach over and turn it on to get my attention when I'm hooked up.
Many years ago when vinyl and turntables were how you got your music we had to replace our cartridges, (the needle), in the tone arm. Every 3 to 6 months I'd have to replace my worn out needle just like clockwork. A friend of mine recommended I try a Shure cartridge. I never had to buy another cartridge. In fact the guy I sold the turntable to never had to replace it.
After a long search I've got what suits me. It was well worth the wait.

I got to try these at a shop here in Laredo and was completely blown away by the incredible sound quality of these earphones , the sound is so crisp, the bass is present without taking over , the clarity of the voices , they really do sound that good , the only problem is that they are very expensive and i cannot afford them
What's great about it: Sound quality is awsome
What's not so great: They are too expensive

I was looking for the top quality and most versatile headphones which I can use either in the plane or in train without too much attracting attention from other people and finally I found it in Shure Sound-Isolating Ear Bud Headphone E530.
The price is quite steep, but you get what you pay for.
Absolutely fantastic!
What's great about it: Unbeatable sound quality, and very effective isolation. Very neat accessories with microphone for travels.
What's not so great: Thick cable

These are easily some of the best headphones I've listened to-- at any size or price. The sound they produce is accurate (response is even across the hearing spectrum), detailed (you will hear more than you have before) and without flaws.
The sound isolation (especially the foam inserts) works great-- it makes a low listening volume possible in airplanes. The isolation is good enough that I've been able to mix live concerts using the headphones as my reference headphones.
If there is any downside, it's that the tight fit of the buds means you won't be able to engage in conversation immediately, and getting back into your music or movie after a distraction will take a while as you refit the plugs. Shure's Push-To-Hear technology is worth the extra money if you anticipate switching in and out of using the headphones rapidly.
What's great about it: Incredible fidelity-Smooth, detailed sound. Isolation works
What's not so great: Fit can be tight, inserting and removing the buds takes a while

UPDATE: SHURE vs. SONY

Ok...so i've been using these SE530's for about a year now and i started to think maybe I was too quick to give these a 10. Plus, they are the only earphones I've owned for awhile, so i was feeling like a huge poser for working out in $500 earphones. So I bought a pair of "Hi-End" Sony's, exclusively for the gym. The Sony's seemed so full of potential...soft pliable earclips, in-ear buds w/ 3 silicone sleeve sizes, water (sweat) resistant, etc. Yet it took all of 5 minutes for me to realize how wrong i had been to second guess the 530's. Yeah, I found the right size sleeves on the Sony, but they still sounded awful in comparison. Highs were painfully tinny, and Lows were sloppy and lacking. Yes I know threre's about a $400 difference in price here, and trust me, I too would rather pay even $200 for the Shures so i dont feel stupid if I ruin them with sweat (FYI - Shure replaces them free for 2 years under warranty!). Its just too bad that once you try these (finding the right fit is a must!) it will be darn near impossible to go back to anything else. Whether you're on a plane, on a treadmill, or at starbucks...Shure's comfortably deliver, without resorting to excessive volume. Just try a pair.
What's great about it: * SOUND! SOUND! SOUND!! So balanced, clear, defined. Plus they isolate without hi volume
What's not so great: * Price, Price, Price

Optimized for listening to high-quality recordings and lossless formats, utilizes three balanced armature drivers—one dedicated tweeter and dual woofers. Additionally, integrated passive crossovers ensure that high and low frequencies remain distinct and defined. The result is an incredibly wide and detailed soundstage, distinguished by precision highs and robust bass. This innovative triple driver configuration is first in class for universal fit, sound isolating earphones

ive had these headphones for about 4 months now, i haven't come across a piece of music that they don't perform well with. from rap to classic rock to country to pop to classical, they are a great pair of headphones for someone who values sound quality. i travel a lot and these block the sound from airplane engines very well, i can have the volume turned to a minimum and still cannot hear the plane at all. these would be great for anyone who can afford the few extra bucks for them.
What's great about it: great sound quality/purity, outside noise blocked very well, great bass from earbuds
What's not so great: pricey
