great gps with set backs

What's great about it: preloaded with current maps
What's not so great: cant set up data transfer with verizon phone service to use extra features
"over all it a great device except using your bluetooth for data to use special features especially if you have verizon phone service over all check your phone first for compatibility if not take it back"

Worst GPS ever

What's great about it: Color screen
What's not so great: Inaccurate directions
"I've had a couple different GPS systems in my time and this is by far the worst. TomTom consistently gives inacurate directions, leading me off route to the wrong adress, sometimes even to the wrong city. Even when it is accurate it tends to give the user the longest route possible. Only buy this product if you enjoy getting lost"

What's great about it: clear screen, easy to use
What's not so great: position lag can cause turn misses
"Bought this almost 2 years ago so we've had time to find its flaws like:
*asked for "no highway route" in Upstate NY - sent us on an ATV trail
*insists there's an exit off NJ tpke into a water filled quarry pit.
*sent us via Jersey City to get from Maplewood to Little Ferry - extra 5 miles
*occasionally the voice says "right" and the map says "left"
I'm going to try to update the software and the maps. I wouldn't buy another"

What's great about it: Easy to use.
What's not so great: No route planning!
"I'm always on the road so I bought this GPS for work and personal use. It's great if you're just going from point A to point B. But if you are someone that's always on the road like a realtor or a truck driver get something else. It has no route planning to set up you destinations in order from close to far, so break out the maps or type in all you destinations one at a time to see which is near. Something that TomTom could easily fix with a downloadable upgrade but then you wouldn't have to buy a new one! Battery life sucks and it also dies quickly while turned off. It's not all bad, it has very good satellite coverge and has only had a couple of errors."

What's great about it: PORTABILITY - Easy to put away in handbag! Goes thru Airport Security No Problems
What's not so great: Short battery life
"Ok- Here is hoplessly lost! I got this Tom Tom and Doh! He's now my greatest gift to myself ever! People take Tom Tom with you wherever you go! And yes! you can go on vacation, unplug it from the rental car and walk around and the Tom Tom does amazing things! It shows you what restaurants and banks and gas stations are around! And it has this really NIFTY Ta Da! sound as you pass by museums! It saves traffic tickets by pre-setting the speed limit and lets you know! And even more amazing - I turned ol' Tom Tom on while in mid-flight out of California - pointed it at the window, and the map quickly came up! I was seeing my flight path over Arizona, New Mexico and Texas! It shown me what cities and locations I was hovering over. This is the coolest tool ever! And now you can add Homer Simpson to your voice list! Great for those Homer fans! I got another GPS wannabe as a surprise birthday gift this year - and trust me - this TOM TOM does circles around it! You don't have to spend a fortune and get all the bells and whistles - the bare minimum does everything that you need - so be thrifty (especially in this economy)! Hope this helps everyone out!"

What's great about it: signal, voices, updates, responds quickly
What's not so great: tomtom program, bluetooth acts up
"I bought this unit when it was much more expensive a couple years ago ($350). So the features on this unit do not compare to any tomtom coming out now, due to technology. This unit does what you need to do. It picks up signal quick with its updating of signal software. Battery isnt great when not connected, but if its not being used outside the car then it isnt a problem. Signal used to be bad here in the city, but with the software updates, it has improved dramatically. overall it is a very good unit and gives loud clear directions without any problems."

What's great about it: If you miss a turn that it tells you to make, it redirects very fast
What's not so great: Doesn't give street names, just says turn right or left, voice instructions not specific enough
"Overall this is a nice product. The only thing is my husband and I are really disappointed it doesn't tell you the names of streets. This can be confusing if if tells you to turn left in 200 feet and there are 3 or 4 streets right there on your left. Unless your just stairing at the map, you might not know which street it's really telling you to turn on. Otherwise, we like it."

What's great about it: Easy software, great features for the price, fun
What's not so great: Mega short battery life - buy a wall charger
"It was very easy to use and intuitively designed right out of the box. I turned it on and it found my brand new neighborhood that none of the one line map systems have caught up to yet. I've used this traveling in many different cities now; NY, San Diego, Phoenix, Chicago, Dallas, Honolulu, etc. It's been accurate in every one.
Great that it has a memory function that makes it easy to find your way back to places when walking or lost in a parking lot.
Good choice of basic voices buy you can upload others on line.
My only recco is to buy a separate wall charger so it's ready when you need it."

What's great about it: inexpensive, easy to use
What's not so great: too slow in the city
"I've been using this GPS for about a year. My husband didn't like it at first, but now he always wants to take it with him on business trips. Occassionally, if you are navigating to an address, it will get you on the right road and in the general area, but will will fall short or over-shoot the exact house number. Also, in cities where there are a lot of consecutive turns, it gets behind and by the time it says "turn right" you're already past your street. If you watch the screen though, you can easily make the correct turns. Fairly minor complaints. Overall, a good buy."

What's great about it: This portable unit is easy to setup and use.
What's not so great: Battery life is not that great and slow to execute prompts.
"I usually travel throughout the summer,so when I first got this gps unit I immediatly caught on to the functions. Very easy to use and takes the pain out of traveling long and short distances. The only 2 things I do not like is that battery life is short and slow to execute prompts. I find myself plugging it in after two hours of use(in which I don't mind) but I would like to plug my cell in too without all the extra cigarette adapters. When approaching a turn or off-ramp,it gives the prompt to late.One time I missed my exit and had to turn around because it was slow to respond.But,other than that, this a great bargain and mainly if you need something now,this will get you to where you gotta go!"

"This is a great system, super easy to use, you get the satellite signal pretty fast and it won't cost you an arm and a leg.
Been new to the city, this is the only way I can get around and it takes me to every address I enter. Everytime.

What's great about it: Accurate directions
What's not so great: connecting to services (like traffic)
"I upgraded from a previous TomTom and this one works great. It is very accurate and if you miss a turn it is very quick to re-calculate to give you new directions. I very rarely have no satellite signals. Only problem I have with it is I have Verizon and I can't seem to hook my phone up with it to receive traffic/weather info. But besides that, great product, worth the money and I would recommend this product."

"I am horrible with directions so I bought TomTom XL to help me for my first big drive and while I get used to a new city. I've never driven longer than 3 hrs and I purchased this for my drive from OH to NC. It did good, but when it was "reconfiguring" it repeatedly told me after 250 ft turn right.....WRONG!! If I took the right I would have been so lost and I felt helpless when it was out of range. I'm glad that I printed directions and knew to stay on 77S or I would have been completely lost. I don't feel comfortable using this without printed directions while in a new state. It was at a good price, but I would have paid more than the price listed I would have taken it back and got something else."

"If you're looking for a GPS that goes a long way for your buck, I recommend the Tom Tom One XL. This GPS works the minute you pull it out of the package. With large display and smooth sounding voice commands, it helps you navigate easily! I was new to where I moved and had to print out directions to Best Buy off the web. But I didn't need them for the ride home. I opened the box, disregarded the instruction manual for the time being, turned on the system. The system took me through steps needed to take. Within a minute or two, I was on my way home with the confidence provided from my Tom Tom One XL! I also found the website and application downloads to be cool and fun. Make custom voices, download ones already made from other Tom Tom owners, or get ones by famous people like John Cleese. I rate this GPS overall a 9.5 out of 10!"
