Great Gps system for the money!

What's great about it: This portable unit is easy to setup and use.
What's not so great: Battery life is not that great and slow to execute prompts.
"I usually travel throughout the summer,so when I first got this gps unit I immediatly caught on to the functions. Very easy to use and takes the pain out of traveling long and short distances. The only 2 things I do not like is that battery life is short and slow to execute prompts. I find myself plugging it in after two hours of use(in which I don't mind) but I would like to plug my cell in too without all the extra cigarette adapters. When approaching a turn or off-ramp,it gives the prompt to late.One time I missed my exit and had to turn around because it was slow to respond.But,other than that, this a great bargain and mainly if you need something now,this will get you to where you gotta go!"

What's great about it: Super easy to use
What's not so great: Battery goes dead way too fast
"This is a great system, super easy to use, you get the satellite signal pretty fast and it won't cost you an arm and a leg.
Been new to the city, this is the only way I can get around and it takes me to every address I enter. Everytime.
Can't live without it!!!!"

What's great about it: Accurate directions
What's not so great: connecting to services (like traffic)
"I upgraded from a previous TomTom and this one works great. It is very accurate and if you miss a turn it is very quick to re-calculate to give you new directions. I very rarely have no satellite signals. Only problem I have with it is I have Verizon and I can't seem to hook my phone up with it to receive traffic/weather info. But besides that, great product, worth the money and I would recommend this product."

"I got this about 2 months ago & it was definately a good buy. For the price and ease of use you can't beat this one. No, it's not the top of the line, or the smallest. But it is easy to learn and priced low. Get one, you won't be dissapointed."

What's great about it: The voice is loud and clear
What's not so great: Loses Signal Sometimes and Takes Time to Reconfigure
"I am horrible with directions so I bought TomTom XL to help me for my first big drive and while I get used to a new city. I've never driven longer than 3 hrs and I purchased this for my drive from OH to NC. It did good, but when it was "reconfiguring" it repeatedly told me after 250 ft turn right.....WRONG!! If I took the right I would have been so lost and I felt helpless when it was out of range. I'm glad that I printed directions and knew to stay on 77S or I would have been completely lost. I don't feel comfortable using this without printed directions while in a new state. It was at a good price, but I would have paid more than the price listed I would have taken it back and got something else."

What's great about it: Works the minute you pull it out of the package!
What's not so great: graphics could be better, but for the price, they're great!
"If you're looking for a GPS that goes a long way for your buck, I recommend the Tom Tom One XL. This GPS works the minute you pull it out of the package. With large display and smooth sounding voice commands, it helps you navigate easily! I was new to where I moved and had to print out directions to Best Buy off the web. But I didn't need them for the ride home. I opened the box, disregarded the instruction manual for the time being, turned on the system. The system took me through steps needed to take. Within a minute or two, I was on my way home with the confidence provided from my Tom Tom One XL! I also found the website and application downloads to be cool and fun. Make custom voices, download ones already made from other Tom Tom owners, or get ones by famous people like John Cleese. I rate this GPS overall a 9.5 out of 10!"

What's great about it: turn by turn voice, easy to use overall, touchscreen.
What's not so great: No map of Mexico, gives me longer routes
"I like it! It gets me to where I need to go without mapping and printing on Yahoo Maps of Mapquest. The only thing I find kind of furstrating is the suction cup that it comes with, it keeps falling off the windowshield while driving and drops my Tomtom-almost caused me to crash! Even when the window and suction base are cleaned it still falls. 3 stars on "ease of use" for this."

"I saw this product online and went instores to go buy it and they were selling it for $299, on sale for 250. When I told the sales man I seen this GPS online for 159.99 he did a price check and I got it for 160 but everyone else who did not know was paying 300! My Dad bought this GPS for 300 many months ago also. It's so easy to use. I highly recommend this product."

"While it may not have all the nifty features of the higher versions, the One XL definitely gets the job done. It provides detailed maps with fairly accurate routes that get you where you need to go with ease. It is also very user-friendly, not requiring you to read through the entire manual before you can start using it or having to go through much hassle when installing updates. If you're the type of person who has a bad sense of direction while driving or can get lost easily in unfamiliar areas (i.e. me), the One XL is a simple solution to the problem."

I bought this for my wife as we recently moved to a large metro area from out of state. We had GPS in our rentals when we came to look for houses (after the first time when we got lost w/o it...) and knew we needed at least one unit when we moved.
I consider myself a power electronics user and was all set to look at $400-500 units from all the top brands (I like some of Tom-Tom's "network" features that appear to be Unique Selling Propositions for their brand where owners link up their units to upload drive times that the units then use to recommend alternative routes based on time of day--however these features ONLY come on the top of the line models costing hundreds more. I would use this for my daily commute, but my wife, the intended user would not.
I like that if we wish, we can either subscribe to the traffic reports, or purchase an add-on and get them.
Set-up was easy and straight forward, except that the unit did not recognize my street and/or address. I will say that it is in a fairly new neighborhood, and I did not have Internet on the computer I was installing the software, so I have not yet been able to take the newest version of the maps that the company has available and recommends in their Quick Start manual, so I can't condemn them completely for this--they do have streets in our development, just not mine. I just could not enter my Home setting.
All in all, it operates slightly different from the units that the major rental company that indicates it's exactly, but the only thing my wife wishes it did was had audible alerts at the turning points. I didn't find a way to turn anything resembling these on.
I would buy again at the price point: 4.3" screen, no-nonsense, touch screen, easy to use."
