What's great about it: fast rerouting, bluetooth, great features
What's not so great: startup can be slow
"This is a great unit for people who need a little help getting around. You can customize your routes to avoid tolls, etc. I like the PC connectivity because you can backup and restore the unit without a problem. It runs updates as well.
The only complaint I have is that the Traffic feature has a monthly fee. I would really like to use this but I would like a trial before I commit.
Definitely reccommend this for anyone looking at getting a GPS unit!!"

Great Product

What's great about it: screen size, personalization options
What's not so great: time-to-destination estimation, fastest vs. shortest routes
"Ok...this GPS system is great, especially for the money. The display is clear and large, and it looks great at night (with night colors schemes) and during the day. Sometimes the sun does cause a glare, but it can usually be fixed with a little manipulation. I really like the "TomTom Home" interface used for updating/personalizing the system through your computer.
One thing I don't like is the fact that the system often sends you WAY out of the way for the "fastest" route. I find the shortest route to typically be the best, but that often includes dirt roads. I am really good with directions, and I travel a lot, so I use the TomTom less for turn-bu-turn direction on long trips and more for Point of Interest searches. Typically, the POI addresses are correct within about 50 yards. Also, the system will give you the phone number of your destination. Another drawback is that the Bluetooth cannot be used for handsfree with a Verizon phone. Go figure...who knows if it is Verizon or TomTom's fault?
Oveall...this is a superb product for the money. GPS systems have come down so much, and if nothing else, it is fun to have in the car."

Great For Road Trips!

What's great about it: Ease of use, touch screen feature is great, Small and portable, large screen
What's not so great: Downloadable voices are limited and expensive
"This is my first GPS unit and I don't know how I got around without one for so long! As soon as I opened the box, the unit was very easy to operate and within seconds my location was already on the map! I love how portable this unit is and it comes with great security features like a PIN entry system, and a fully manageable online profile where you can subscribe to services such as real time weather and traffic for those long road trips. I've only been able to use it around town so far, but I will definetly bring it along with me the next road trip I take!"

What's great about it: Easy to use, easy to set up and easy to update
What's not so great: Can't find a way to delete old addresses.
"I got this Tomtom as a gift from my daughter and I love it. I load the CD and updated it. My first update showed my software was not compatible because I unplugged the hardware prematurely. I loaded it to my dell laptop with out a problem and I followed the instruction to unplug the hardware. It comes with everything you needed to operate this product in your car. It is very easy to use even a kid can do it. You can set the display to night vision or day vision depending on the lights. You got to read the instruction again and familiarize yourself with it. It is no brainer to operate this fantastic product. I think street to street voice recognition is not necessary. The voice prompts you well ahead of time on what to do and it automatically recalculate if you ignore the message and redirect you again to the course you want to go. Its the best buy for the price."

"We travel every year to New York and this year my husband got me tom tom for christmas and our trip. This has been the best investment ever we made, we took the wrong turn going up and ended up in the bronx. It got us out without any problems. The satellite is right down to the T. I love it, and the money is worth it."

"Best Buy has several different models side by side to try. I found the Tom Tom slightly easier to Navigate the menu than the Garmin. The Tom Tom also had the Golf course where my Mom lives listed, where Garmin didn't. So far I have found it accurate, but with any GPS, you have to still use common sense in picking your routes and verifying what is best, but it does a great job of locating unknown addresses. This was a great purchase."

What's great about it: Big Screen. Easy to Plug in address.
What's not so great: Short Battery life and no home charger
"I received this for Christmas 2007 and I've had alot of fun with it. Easy to plug in the address and also locates most POI's in your area, I was out of town looking for a Home Depot in the area where we stayed, I physically saw it on the way into town, but the TOM TOM could not locate it's location. Instead, it sent me 7 miles away from where I saw the local Home Depot. The glare from the sunlight is a problem when it is mounted on the windshield. The battery life of 2 hours is too short, I could not keep the battery charged while plugged into the cigarette light adapter. I think the engineers goofed up on the battery life, other than that no problems yet."

What's great about it: Easy to understand Directions

"I am an Over the Road Trucker and I do not have this GPS, I Have another one but I am pretty good with it & I have found out if you don't read the box to see what options it has and just assume it has them,DON'T COMPLAIN LATER. I bought this one for my Daughter, I set it up for her and she loves it & it does not offer Bluetooth, which I knew that. In fact it has a feature on here that other users can see where each one is at with the Tom Tom XL, mine doesn't. In fact I like this unit so well I am buying two more for my daughters, and if you don't know how to download these units,ask because you can make them inoperative, but if you download it you can remove it later if you need to,Rob"

"I had this product for just 5 hours. During the 5 hours usage, I must have spent approximately $6.00 on gas so I can charge up the battery using car charger since Tom Tom is too cheap to include an AC adapter. Then I loaded the software and found out if you have Nextel or Sprint cell phones, don't waste your time getting excited on "blue tooth" feature. Tom Tom's web site could use a GPS of their own so we can find where we need to go to find needed information., ie; fees for all the plus features. Their video demos are good, but can't see any prices. Maybe I need to use it longer, but I was disappointed that a product supposedly loaded with great features, but I can't even power it on to enjoy it because it did not have an AC Adapter!! Without it, I guess, this product is as good as dead!!"

had to return this to the store 3 times. I really loved it.- It worked
great until I updated the software through TomTom website. Each time it
caused the GPS to stop communicating with my PC. TomTom said the
software updates were incompatible with the existing software. Of
course once that happens the unit is dead. So Much for technology.
It seems that they are in such a rush to get the updates to market that
they aren't testing them. If the GPS were beyond my 30 exchange period,
my only option would have been to RMA it for a replacement; only to
have the same thing happen to the replacement.
PLEASE DO NO BUY THIS UNIT!!!!!!!"

"puchased on 11/24/07 as a new "toy"at BestBuy.In the parking lot with very little effort mapped my next destination in Baton Rouge,La.,it directed me there to the exact spot.Went a little out of the way,but I tweeked it a little for a more direct way home.Pretty awesome.Then I downloaded the manual to see all the extras.Cant wait for a real road trip.Would be better if it told you the street name to turn on but that is the next model that is $50.00 more"

What's not so great: Poor logic, lost signals
"Took this unit to NYC from PA. Did well on the highway, but was aweful in the city. Had to get WAY out of the buildings to get this unit operating consistently. Lost the signal constantly, then had to re-acquire and remap. Was a nightmare. Thank God for Central Park....or I'd still be there! Not recommended. Took it back and exchanged for a Garmin."

"I GOT A TOMTOM ON A FRIEND'S RECOMMENDATION. BEST ADVISE I'VE GOTTEN IN A LONG TIME. I, ORIGINALLY, NEVER THOUGH ABOUT GETTING A GPS DEVICE AND GOT BY ON USING MAPS. THIS UNIT IS SO USER FRIENDLY AND HAS SO MANY GREAT FEATURES, INCLUDING MORE TO BE FOUND ON THE TOMTOM HOME WEBSITE, IT'S A NO BRAINER AS A GIFT, ESPECIALLY IF IT'S FOR YOURSELF. I GOT IT FOR WORK BUT FOUND THAT I USE IT ALL THE TIME, EVEN ON TRIPS THAT I'VE MADE SEVERAL TIME BEFORE AND FOUND THAT I GET THERE EVEN FASTER, WITH LESS TROUBLE, NOW WITH MY TOMTOM.

What's great about it: fast updates, even knows what direction your are facing
What's not so great: the windshield mount... make sure the surface is clean or it falls off
"I'm a new cop in an unfamiliar area... this GPS has more than paid for itself in the few weeks I've had it. It allows me to respond to calls faster.... respond to other officers in need faster... it's compact and easy to set up and take down at the end of my shift. Don't bother spending any more than what his product costs... that is, if you're needs are similar to mine."
