What's great about it: AUto setup, hook up all your componets to one place
What's not so great: Can be tough to set up, no on screen menus w/HDMI
The best thing to do is hook everything up the way you want it before running the auto setup. Use HDMI cables when possible, but you will need to hook up componet or s-video to your tv so you can see the on screen menus. This is the dumbest thing about the reciever, but the sound makes up for this stupid issue. I have my satelite, Blu-ray, and Xbox hook up to it and all works great. The only problem I have found is that the sound level changes when you change channels on the satelite. It seems to be connected to the fact some channels are broadcast in digital mode and some are not. Still looking to see if there is a sound leveling option in the menus.

What's great about it: Auto set up worked great.
What's not so great: Remote could be more user friendly
I set up a theater room using the 1908. Klisph synergy fronts, center rears and 12" sub. I knew the speaker were going to be smaller then I'm used too but the rooms not too big. I set it all up and turned it on and it sounded a little better then I expected. I was happy. Then I run the auto set up and let the 1908 make its adjustments. The sound fit the room is the best way to discribe it. The speakers came to life.
This set up sounds almost as good as the energy speakers and velodyne sub in my family room.
This is a great amp to build a home theater around. The HDMI inputs and out put made the connections to the PS3, satilite and TV a breeze.

What's great about it: all of your enteraiment equipmet can hook up to the 1908
What's not so great: hard to install on your own
First i had the avr1708 i returned it because i could not get sound and audio with the hdmi cable. after i resurch the avr 1908 i found out that you can get sound and audio with this one. After i bought it home it took me 5 hours to get it to work right , but it was worth it . You have to have the HDMI for the avr 1908 gone in to the first HDMI port to your tv.The source that your running has to go into the first port on the avr1908 the one mark dvd/hdp you should get sound from the 1908 and video from your tv. I have my xbox 360 hooked up with the HD dvd player with an Monster HDMI cable and I love it. Oh yea it took 8 hr to find out that the 1708 does not support audio from the HDMI.The 1908 is the why to trust me. Go to the denon web site check out for your self..
