This 42" HDTV's low color shift panel reduces color variations as viewing angles increase, making for a thrilling cinema-style viewing experience from almost any seat in the house. The display's auto source detection and switching technology lets you conveniently switch between HDTV and connected HD components simply by turning 1 of them on.

Pros: GOOD PRICE Cons: NOT SURE YET
"Ive had this TV for 11 months now and the only problem i have is burn-in Now I know they say an lcd tv cant get burn in dont believe them. The boxes that say input signal and hdmi source are burned into the screen. You cant see them unless your inches away from the screen so its not an issue yet.i will wait to see if it gets worse. The answer i get from the folks on the internet that what probably happened was the tv was left on too long with the cable box not on.My big fear is this is just the start of problems stay tuned."

42" Westinghouse
Pros: Cheap, 1080p, nice looking, 4 HDMI's, lots of tweak settings Cons: Black Level, internal speakers
"I just picked up this TV at Bestbuy on sale yesterday for $849. It was a decent deal I thought, and my brother has had a 32" Westinghouse TV for 2 years without a single issue. There was a comparable Dynex/Insignia(I think they are the same TV in different cases) TV for $799, however I think the Westinghouses are a bit more reliable and higher quality.
The TV looks pretty nice, and the picture is good too. Black levels aren't great, however for the price you pay it is still a great TV. I have been playing a lot of Xbox 360 via HDMI, and there is no "lag" in the picture which is nice. Internal speakers are mediocre at best...you should be using external ones if you can. Stock settings can be improved(imo) with these:
Brightness.............45 Contrast...............65 Saturation............80 Hue.....................50 Sharpness.............75 Backlight...............30(you can go higher/lower, however higher puts more strain on the backlight) Color Temp............Neutral From the adjustment menu 3D Comb Filter........On Skin Tone..............40 Color Temp.............R 128 ............................G 128 ............................B 128 Dynamic Contrast....Off Black Adjustment....45 White Adjustment...65 Saturation.............80 Hue......................50
For gaming you may want to use the "Game" setting with the Brightness up so you can see better in the shadows. Try them both out and see what you like."

used as a computer monitor
Pros: inexpensive, reliable, good picture Cons: bad program guide, input selection
"I've been using the set for a year as a monitor for my PCs and I watch a little TV on it when I'm in the office. I use the HDMI inputs to switch between PCs. I have one stuck green pixel in the middle of the screen but I never notice it unless the background is dark. As a PC monitor I love the large size and sharp text. The TV reception is good. The tuner can pull in stations that are marginal on my other sets. The set is a little slow when I switch between HDMI, PC, or TV inputs. The on screen TV guide is a disaster. Mostly I love the Westy."

Pros: Quality for the price Cons: None yet
"I purchased this set in July 2008 after researching other sets in magazines and online resources. This was a last second glance on Best Buys site because of the number of reviews it had and virtually all of them 4 out of 5 stars. I totally agree. I received this set on sale for $950.00 from the $1150 price and then it went on sale for $899. They gave me the difference with no problem. As for the set, it rocks! The picture is great in 720 and 1080P. The 4 HDMI plugs are more than enough. I have a WII gaming system hooked into it and a stereo sytem. All work great. A fantastic purchase and a highly recommended one at that. You can't go wrong."

Don't buy this TV
08/13/2008
By Luke1212from Virginia
Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Malfunctions
"I purchased this tv and had to exchange the same day due to a burnt pixel. Several months later experienced intermitten problems with the video processor that would not duplicate for service. Now, less than a year after purchase the television does not come on and I am waiting (a week now) for a work order from Westinghouse before I can take it back to bestbuy for exchange. The cons far out weigh the pro of being inexpensive. It seems you truely do get what you pay for. I would recommend you purchase the best buy warranty if you plan on purchasing this product as it seems you are likely to need it."

Settings for Westinghouse 42"
08/12/2008
By lcdfanfrom phila, pa
Pros: great picture, good price, good value, lots of inputs.
"this tv is great, but the factory settings are not optimized for good blacks and contrast. Use the settings below and the picture is best. These settings should improve life of tv because it won't be as bright which won't burn out as fast. They also eliminate overly bright whites on blacks which can cause ghosting of images.
bright-39 contrast-45 saturation-36 hue-58 sharp-53 (set it how you like) backlight-40 (you can vary it to your own liking) color-warm"

Decent TV for price

By rcnoblefrom Kansas
Pros: Great picture and price at the time many inputs Cons: HDMI issues, and power issues
"At the time I purchased it, it was the cheapest 1080p on the market. Good sound and picture no complaints when on cable with DVR. When using over the air HD and clearQAM the sound becomes out-of-sync often, but fixes every 10 minutes or so. The HDMI ports stopped working 2 times, just unplug the TV and it fixed itself. when auto selecting sources, it sometimes had issues with HDMI. Lastly after having it for10 months, I came home from vacation to find the power supply dead. Customer service was good and quick, save the receipt, I am now waiting to take it into Bestbuy for repair, trade-in, or credit. I am hoping I can trade it for equal price. the 42" Toshiba Regza is a much better buy."

By Genericfrom Webster, TX
Pros: Cheap, loads of connections, easy to use, pretty good picture, pretty good sound Cons: Had to return within a week.
"Westinghouse generally makes good appliances, they are not a huge name like Sony, but I thought I would take my chances. The tv worked great for exactly 4 days before I had to return it. Both component inputs stopped working, when connected to my 360 would show welcome screen, but after placing dvd in the tray and selecting play dvd, a bunch of colors would flash on the screen then it would go black, same results with my ps2 so I know it is the tv. Dissapointing to spend a grand and have to box it back up within a week, hopefully it was just the particular unit I had, but if I have to return another one, I'll rate it at one star..."

Very nice surprise
07/28/2008
By webhead215from Columbus, OH
Pros: Excellent picture quality; very easy to set-up; HD channels Pop Cons: Pixel issue
"This is an EXCELLENT 1080p LCD TV!! I was VERY surprised by how well the picture turned out. I compared several LCD TV's and budget wise this was what I could afford. I was a little apprehensive buying a Westinghouse b/c they are definitely not known for TV's. However I am glad I made the purchase...however let me give you a little background on an issue I had that was taken care of pretty well by Best Buy. I bought the TV on a Saturday, brought it home, hooked it up with no issues. As I turned on the TV and started to find an HD channel I noticed a small green dot in the middle of the screen. I tried different variations on the display function but the dot never went away. I decided to contact Westinghouse to see what could be done. The rep at Westinghouse said the green dot was a pixel that had "popped" out and needed to be "popped" back in. He said I had two options-the first option was to leave the TV on a white background for 24 hours and it will pop the pixel back in-tried that option first it did not work-the second option was to turn off and unplug the TV for 24 hours-tried the second option that did not work. Now here is the biggest recommendation I can make concerning the TV and this is no joke-BUY THE SERVICE PLAN!!! Do not hesitate in this...it is worth the extra money. So in buying the service plan I called Best Buy about my issue and they sent a tech out the following day to look it over. He said it was best to take the TV back and exchange it. He wrote me an exchange ticket and I took it back and got a new TV and I have to say this TV looks even better than the first one. Also pick up an HDMI cable it really does make a difference. Bottom line is this is a great TV for the price and looks really great especially the HD channels. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!"

Pros: Good price, picture/color very crisp and clear, great for gaming Cons: Could have deeper sound
"I researched and reviewed many different plasma and LCD TVs. And even though I had never researched this particular brand, I knew that the LCD was the way to go as far as length of life, and 1080p for quality of picture. When I saw the great price for this LCD, I thought I'd take a chance on a less well-known brand. It has definitely not disappointed me."

Great Picture, Great Price

Pros: Price, Ports, Simple Remote, low power Cons: Westinghouse makes TVs?
"I bought this TV after two of my friends bought the Westinghouse 32" and 47" I opted for the middle-weight 42" for its 1080p capabilities. Back when I bought this TV (almost 1.5 years ago) 1080p was hard to come by under $1500. I was able to buy mine well under that, which made me nervous. I have yet to have a single problem with the TV. The picture is very nice (especially hooked up to a Blu-Ray or upconverter). I wish there were more channels with Hi-Def because I dont like "bars" on the sides of my screen, but Im fairly certain all widescreen TVs accomodate the square picture the same way. People have been complaining about the sound, I have not yet used the TV speakers as I bought a surround sound system which really adds to the experience. I look forward to the 60,000hrs of TV viewing this machine is rated for. The 150watts required to run this TV make it less expensive on my electricity bill than my previous 25" CRT TV. The back connector system keeps the wires close to the spine and makes for a "clean" appearance while standing on an entertainment center. 4HDMI Ports is a big bonus if you are a gamer or have lots of expensive toys (Blu-Ray, HDTV, X-Box, etc) No need to switch. TV detects what is on and rarely "searches" for the correct device. I plug my PC into it as well with a VGA cable. There is no way to hook the sound up to the TV from the computer (but a good set of computer speakers for $50, will fix that problem or plug it into your stereo). My only complaint is that I should have purchased the 47" seeing as how I will be moving out of my apartment this year and my living space will increase dramatically. This TV seems to be best viewed at a distance of 8 to 14 feet. Anything closer and u start to see some pixalation on the "Dark" sections, and any farther and it loses its "Big-ness". Great overall TV!"

Pros: excellent picture, great value for a 1080p system, great port density Cons: HDMI ports have handshaking issues
"for a 42 inch 1080p system, its hard to find a better price. The picture is excellent in most light conditions, response time is very nice, lots of added features, and a wealth of input ports (including 4 HDMI port). About the only drawback is that sometimes the HDMI ports go out to lunch, loosing sound or signal all together. External reviews say this only happens with some hardware, and westinghouse claims on the phone its a firmware issue (for which they have a irritating , although effective workaround, in which you need to unplug all the hdmi ports several times). hopefully a firmware update will fix that soon, and then, this will be the best value in a HDTV that you can find."

Bargain TV

Pros: CHeap, sort of Cons: Cheap
"I bought this TV on Sale a little while ago and thought the picture was pretty good for being a low price. The contrast ratio is weak and you can tell compared to the other TVs on the wall next to this guy. The reason I returned it was not because of the Contrast ratio, but because of the input mechanism. It uses an auto-detect to switch inputs, and after hooking my xbox 360 up to it it worked fine, but then I unhooked it for a while then hooked it back up and the TV would not recognize it. It was not due to my lack of know how but rather that the auto detect is finicky. Others have had the same problem so I am giving my vote also. I shopped around a little and found a great deal elsewhere on a much better name brand TV. Do your homework and you will find something better than this for sure, even in the same price range."

Worst TV EVER

By Fissellfrom Austin, TX
Pros: Good price Cons: TV is AWEFUL
"We purchased our first Westinghouse on 1/1/08 and after only having it for 3 months the circuit board went out. The repair man came and said "there really is not a way to fit this so I will approve for an exchange". We decided once we got to the store that it would be easier if we just got the same tv again. We had that tv for 3 months and it went out again. We called the repair center and they sent someone out and im guessing that b/c I said this was unacceptable that he decided to not order the part until 2 weeks later. It is on back order until 8/8/08 and after talking to approx 10 people the manager of the repair center finally approved for the tv to be exchanged for a new one. DONT BUY THIS TV IT SUCKS VERY BAD....."
