What's great about it: Speech, MP3 player, FM Transmission.
What's not so great: Can't think of any.

"After reading some of the reviews, I am kind of shocked. I have had no problems with it at all. FM is great, MP3 player is awesome. The GPS actually shows a lot of off roads, just not main roads. I drove 300+ miles and my GPS took from front door to the front door of my destination. The FM transmitter works great. Blasts the music and speech to my speekers. I would reccomend this product."

What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: maps not accurate, some features don't work

"Was excited to use my Tom Tom 720. Drove from Columbus to Chicago.
Maps didn't show bridges crossing I-65.
Clock didn't change when we changed timezones.
Speed alert did not work.
Voice directions said turn in XXX yards when I was XXX MILES away.
I returned the 720. I can't believe Tom Tom would release this untested product."

What's great about it: Very accurate, easy to use, no brainer purchase
What's not so great: voice prompt (left or right turn ahead) only accurate 50% of the time

"I love my TT720. It was easy to use, my 1st GPS product and worked right out of the box. You must look @ the screen all the time for the arrow of turn approaching though as the voice prompt is very inacurrate. This product is definitely worth the money as I would buy another 1 in a heartbeat. It was purchased when it 1st came to market. Very happy!"

What's great about it: Great visuals, accurate, compact, speech
What's not so great: software out dated, accessories

"I enjoyed using the product from the moment I opened the box. I needed a GPS unit for city navigation and was searching for one with speech capability. This one hit the mark and then some. I agree with other viewers about the HOME software that comes in the box. I also experienced some of their problems. However... there is a newer version of the software that I downloaded on the Tom Tom web site (2.0 I believe was the version). There are some improvements there. As far as losing data goes. As a Software Engineer I recommend backing up your GPS unit often and save your data to your computer before performing any downloads such as a map update. If you choose to update the map you will be deleting the old one and if you do not get the new map, your GPS will be useless. If you back it up you lose nothing because you can go back to the saved version.
I experienced one of the other problems here too. The user that was upset about the prices being in foreign units. There is a selection on that site for which store you want to shop. I had United Kingdom selected for me and I was very confused as well until I came across that drop-down selection and chose United States. That leads me to my only complaint... The accessories and capabilities were better for the United Kingdom. I was shopping for a carrying case and the ones they offered to the UK were much higher quality.
I really wish the traffic and weather features were available on the US version but I probably could not afford it if it could do everything.
Very impressive product. I use it constantly. I was amazed that I could use it without being distracted by it."

What's great about it: Easy, easy, easy to use, large touch screen, Bluetooth
What's not so great: None really, havnt found average speed or altitude options yet

"This was our first GPS system and I bought it after reading others reviews. It was a Christmas gift I purchased for my girlfriend and without reading any instructions she was able to conect her Razor Bluetooth phone to it in a minute or two. We tried it out the first time on a road trip from NC to WV without ever looking at the manual. It is so easy! The big touch screen is easy to see even at night with its "nightime" mode which darkens the screen to a blueish hue. We ended up in very heavy fog and rain in the mountains and it allowed me to know of upcoming sharp curves in the road since visibility was zero and it was accurate within a few feet. I'm not saying to drive just by the screen but it really helps! A few things suprised us like a McDonalds/gas station we were sitting at didnt show up on it but we loved it after one trip and recommend it highly."

What's great about it: Very Quick thinker
What's not so great: routing questionable

"I use the gps everyday all day long and so far it has not missed a step. I do have to say that the routing is super fast but questionable to say the least, sometimes trying to add an additional 10 or 20 min on to my trip. Tom tom claims these routes are more fuel efficient i dont see how driving for an extra 10 mintes could save gas but either way with a little tweaking the routes are perfect. The other day i was waiting on a customer and figured out how to pair my phone with the gps so now i look absolutly crazy driving down the street screaming at my dash board so people can hear me, overall it is pretty sweet I have nextel so i can use the bluetooth but i can not upload my contacts, if this feature is important to you you may want to check the providers tomtom will pair with as they are limited. I love the fact that this unit will update itself with mapshare (which by the way I have had no problems with.) Another nice feature about this unit is it allows me to change street names and add entire streets at my liesure( Garmin doesnt do that). Overall I am satisfied with the unit."

Stay away from TomTom Home 01/02/2008

What's great about it: Very accurate, recalcualtes new route quickly if you make a wrong turn, hardly looses signal
What's not so great: Do not use TomTom Home to update the maps - your GPS will go haywire

"The 720 works OK but it is not familiar with back roads. I like that the computer voice says, "Make a left on Constitution Avenue."
I tried to update my US Map via TomTom Home only to find out I did not have enough memory however I thought I would have enough memory since it comes with 2 gigs. Right after I thought I downloaded the new US map I disconnected the GPS from my computer and all my data was erased!!!! The GPS was useless - it read, "No map was found." So I was left with a blank screen. Not happy at all. I purchased another 720 but I will never upgrade my maps via TomTom Home again. If I type in an address and the GPS cannot find it I will resort to a good old fashion map or better yet Google Maps (maps.google.com/).
If you buy any TomTom no matter the model I would advise to stay away from TomTom Home."

What's great about it: Constantly updated maps and POI's, highly customizable, bright screen
What's not so great: Auto brightness dims too early

"I love my 720. First off the biggest reason so buy any TomTom product right now is their Map Share technology. Just connect the TomTom to the HOME software and each day new updates will be made to your map. Is a road blocked on one end but shown as open? In just a few clicks you can fix the error and share it with millions of other TomTom users. The screen is very bright and easy to see. I also love how much you can customize the TomTom unlike the Garmin units I've used where what you see is what you're stuck with. This is a really fantastic GPS unit."

What's great about it: Easy to use and a clear picture.
What's not so great: Not always accurate, AWFUL suppor from TomTom.

"The unit is easy to use with a clear display. It works well if you don't know where you are going. After having the unit just a few weeks, I have already found 2 instances where the unit did not give me accurate directions, or could not find the address. The web site is easy to navigate, but it has been down for nearly a month! The only way to download a new map or TomTom plus services is to order them in Euros or Pounds (costing much more, 40% - 100% more than Dollars). In an attempt to contact their support by phone, I was unable to get through for two days, and when I finally got through I was on hold for an hour before hanging up. Good product, awful customer support and technical support!"

What's great about it: very accurate and fast with rerouting
What's not so great: bluetooth not compatible with my phone

"Good purchase for someone who is not patient and has to travel a lot. The Tomtom 720 calculates fast and I have not lost a signal YET. It is very easy to navigate through and the routing is perfect so far. My only dissapointment is the bluetooth capabilities are not compatible with my phone which also makes traffic capability obsolete. I did a lot of research before buying this and so far I am very satisfied. The speech to text and larger screen were the reason why I chose TOMTOM instead of the Garmin 350."

One of the handiest travel tools EVER 12/29/2007

What's great about it: Makes the unknown roads familiar
What's not so great: Bluetooth does not work if you have VZW. That's not a big deal, because you hear everything via TomTom.

"I live in the suburbs, between two bigger cities. One city I know pretty well and the other, where my husband works, I have a hard time remembering where to go and how to get around. This Tom Tom is just great. No more calling my husband and telling him I am lost and having him worry. We would get so frustrated because I would not right down the best directions, and then attempt to get to the destination on my own and fail to....which of course would lead to an argument.... Well if there are any women out there looking for directions in the big world at the palm of your hands, then this is a must have... No more pulling over and asking for directions, especially with a little kid in tow. I don't know what I did with out it.
I think this would be a great gift for any soon to be college student who is moving to a college far away from home. It just a great convenient, small enough to carry, but nice size screen to see and EZ to use.
Worth the money!! Wouldn't drive with out it!!
What was nice, the TomTom came fully charged right out of the box too. I liked that...Convenient."

What's great about it: Easy to setup, use, store MP3s, or aux jack, bluetooth phone, Excellent Nav Screens
What's not so great: MP3 could be easier to access, but doesn't matter if using IPod.

"This is my first Nav system, and both my father and I got the same model for Christmas from my mom. They have a Mac, and I have a PC, and the software setup was easy for both. The best thing about this is how easy it is to set up navigation - it is extremely user friendly and simple to use. They have options for the voices you wish to talk to you. You can play music through (MP3s) through your car stereo and it will interupt the song to say "Turn Left" or whatever. I took it for a spin and I really liked how if there were two turns one right after another, it would tell you both of them and tell you. That was awesome! It would be impossible to make a mistake with this! Although, as with any device, remember to plan the route before driving so you can pay attention to the road. It's a little addictive at first, and you get used to it quick. I can't imagine not having it now...and I've only had it less than a week! I like the screen size, ease of use, and all the additional options, but I don't even use the travel updates. I have verizon and my TomTom will stop the music and put the call through just fine. The call is played through the TomTom speaker instead of through the radio though, but it works great! I still haven't learned all there is to it, but that is what is so nice...you can learn just what you need and if you feel like learning more then do it, if not, then all the basic features are a breeze. I showed this to my nephew and now he is buying the same model cause he was so impressed...and he is a gadget person, so he would know. I highly recommend this model, cause it has a big 4.3" screen too, and it is the perfect size...not too big to obstruct, but big enough to easily view it and navigate through the menu. The menus are all simple and large lettered with big, easily identifyable icons...much better than some of the other models I saw at the store."

What's not so great: Machine turns off without turning it off, poor customer service

"I did so much GPS analysis prior to making this purchase that I became physically exhausted. That said, I did acquire the TomTom 720 on Christmas Eve.

-First and foremost the unit did not sync with the software out of the box. TomTom email customer support offered a fix and it eventually worked.

-The machine turned on and off without me physically turning it on and off. That is a major problem. TomTom customer service told me to reformat the unit and reload the software. They also told me to call them to walk through the process. I waited 90 minutes on hld and eventually hung up. TomTom customer service emailed me the directions. After 12 hours the software has NOT reloaded.

I am going to exchange the unit at Best Buy. If it happens again, I will buy the Garmin Nuvi 660."

What's great about it: easy to use, good price, many features including mp3's, blue tooth
What's not so great: not compatible with ANY verizon phones at all, computer disc is a little confusing to navigate

"i got a tom tom go 720 and loved it but hated that i couldn't use the advanced plus features just because i have verizon and verizon is not compatible with any tom toms. my phone could still connect to it so that i could talk and receive calls through the tom tom, but i can't receive weather or traffic updates or any new features like maps and voices. imo, the tom tom go 720 is the best available portable gps device out there for the price, as i've also tried the navigon and it cannot come even close to comparing."

Extremely poor customer service 12/27/2007

What's great about it: may be a great piece of equipment
What's not so great: customer service is awful, web site poor, not Mac compatible

"Bought this as a Christmas present for my husband, tried to set it up on Xmas morning and could not get our Mac to recognize TT USB. Went to TT web site, and could not get on ... apparently many other customers had similar problems.
Called TT customer service and found out that they were closed on Xmas day!
Have been trying all day Dec 26 and 27 to reach them, but lines are still busy. Web site is a bit faster, but still very slow. There's no indication on the site or in literature that comes with the product that there are any Mac issues.
This may be a fine product, but if I were starting over I would not buy it. I would say the odds are about 80-20 that it will go back in the box to retailer in the next 24 hours."

What's great about it: easy to program, bluetooth, says street names, large clear display, very customizable
What's not so great: no automatic turn on.

"I would recommend this to anyone who wants all the features of more expensive units (garmins) in a more affordable package. I bought mine right before a concert in milwaukee and it was more than worth it for that trip alone. Navigating crazy highway exits and finding bathrooms was super easy. Updating your route as changes n plan occur is easy too. Great for finding a bite to eat. I had read some reviews saying it had limited compatibility with bluetooth phones and my phone was not listed as a compatible model, but it still works perfectly, so i was pleasantly surprised. It is very easy to use (even my parents can figure it out) and the map share is great to have. Huge screen, customizable colors, car icons and voices spice it up. This is just a great GPS unit!"

What's great about it: Easy to use, Awesome Features
What's not so great: Map updating is limited, not what I had been lead to believe

"Lots of research into these devices and I settled on the TomTom 720. The features beyond what is on the One XL include bluetooth, FM transmitter, Text-to-Speech. Along with more internal memory and faster processor.
All of those features work great. Set up to do Hands Free calling on my cell phone in less than 5 minutes.

The MapShare and Map updates were less benificial than I was expecting. You get one free base map update, thats it one. And downloadable MapShare updates are limited to one year! I did not expect the MapShare feature to be time limited."

"reviewed so many online got crazy. was going to get the Nuvi however, decided on the 720 . I love it ..it procesess quickly, has a good size screen..is easy to use and is very user friendly. The computer map upgrade aspect was attractive but scary. It was easy to do and told me it was current. I like that I can later purchase the current traffic update antenna. I have an in dash system in my other car and thats hard to beat but I love this gps. Took it to Ny and CT and it got us everywhere with ease. What a life saver. Gettting my mom one for xmas. I give it two thumbs up without reservation."
