What's not so great: None I can think of
"You get what you pay for, and in this case I got more than I paid for! This little guy is quite cheap for the quality of sound it delivers. It sounds just like a $300 subwoofer."

What's great about it: Surprised by sound quality.
What's not so great: Nothing
"Nice size. Great sound. Not alot of big boom boom bass , but enough to cover what is needed as far as I see or hear it should be. Nothing really bad about this unit considering the price. Just can not compare to anything I saw on net or heard in stores. Don't wait buy it. For the price you got a deal !!!!"

What's great about it: Cheap, fairly compact, easy to use, good sound quality.
What's not so great: Nothing -- this is only 100W. Don't expect too much from it.
"I bought this for use in my fairly small living room. I got a home-theater-in-a-box as a gift. The included sub was not powered and made me not want to use the system. This sub has changed everything. I mainly use it with my PS3 for games and Blu Ray. Don't expect this to rumble your insides, but I was very surprised with this budget sub. It has enough power to rattle the pictures on the wall and it really enhances your experience for very little money. Don't be a snob and spend $1k+ on a sub. You don't need it."

What's great about it: EASY INSTALL,SOUNDS GOOD!
What's not so great: FOR $99 I'M NOT GOING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE EXTERIOR FINISH,COVER.
"I WANTED TO ADD A SUB WOOFER TO MY INSIGNIA RECEIVER AND MY INSIGNIA BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS.THE INSIGNIAS HAVE GOOD RESPONSE BUT I WANTED TO ADD SOME OOMPH TO THE BASS.I AM PLEASED WITH THE RESULT.THE SONY 100 WATT SW ADDS A RESPECTABLE AMOUNT OF LOW END RUMBLE WITH NO NOTICEABLE DISTORTION.SOME DAY I MAY WANT TO INVEST IN SOME POLKS,BUT FOR NOW I HAVE A PRETTY THUNDEROUS 5.1 SPEAKER SYSTEM WITH THE INSIGNIAS AND THE SONY SW.REALLY AMAZING SOUND FOR ONLY $351!"

What's great about it: price
What's not so great: plastic cover in the rear which rattles at high bass volume. still ok at right level..
"This set-up is in my office and I must say, I am very impressed with this powered sub at this price point. I have this paired with the Vizio sound bar from Walmart priced at 148.00 and the Samsung-LN32B360 LCD flat screen TV---$438.00..I could not be more please with this set-up at the cost I paid... I have some Bose Accoustimass cones I am going to connect to the external speaker source, which I know will achieve the level of surround sound I am looking for...Would highly recommend.."

What's great about it: Everything for the price
What's not so great: Nothing for the price!
"I was ready to drop the $400 for the Kilpsch because I'm a huge fan of their stuff; further, I was like no way is some $100 subwoofer going to sound good. I get it home and hook it up all full of remorse that I didn't buy the bigger and better subwoofer...and you know what!? I couldn't have been more ecstatic to hook it up and find that it sounded PHENOMENAL. I am not a sony audio fan and am not a fan of cheap audio, but in this case I got lucky. Sony built a great product on the cheap that doesn't look, sound, or feel cheap. Buy this without hesitation. The only thing I will say is that if you're looking to rattle the paintings on the wall, go for the klipsch. If you're in a condo, apt, mid to small size living room then this will MORE than make you happy!"

What's great about it: price, size, sound
What's not so great: i'm greedy, needs more power. not really though.
"Have had mine for for 8-10 months now. Hooked up to new JVC stereo I got from Santa Claus last year.
The new stereo and XM radio, along with finally adding a sub, have made listening to music totally a pleasue to do again.
Missed out on a deal for this same sub a couple weeks ago for $79. Was going to get one for son's stereo that he got for his birthday in March. Definitely will be looking for it on sale again."

What's great about it: Deep, wall rattling bass
What's not so great: Nothing yet
"I have this connected to my Sony STR-DH500 and it sounds AWESOME!!! For $100 you CAN'T do better, as far as I'm concerned.
You can control the bass cutoff frequency and adjust the level (volume) of the sub, as well as choose the polarity. The auto-shut off is a nice feature as well. Probably one of the best sub's I've owned. The price doesn't reflect the quality at all."

What's great about it: natural sound when configured properly
What's not so great: nothing yet
"This sub has been used for the past four days with a Sony STR-K700 receiver. This receiver comes from a home theater in a box setup with a crossover preset at 120 Hz and a passive subwoofer. As such, the receiver does not have a line-level subwoofer output. Fortunately, the sub has speaker-level inputs, so I just hooked the speaker-level output from the receiver for the passive sub to the left speaker-level input on the sub. I set the sub's crossover at its highest frequency (200 Hz) to be sure to take all the sub-120 Hz signals from the receiver.
I configured the sub by listening to various types of music (except for rap initially) to try and determine a "natural" volume for the low bass. For my particular setup, that volume setting on the knob on the back of the sub was relatively low, but the actual output was very pleasing and natural. You have to be willing to spend perhaps half an hour experimenting with both spatial placement of the sub as well as position of the volume knob to determine your preferred settings. However, once I configured both to my liking, the sub simply blended in with the rest of my speakers. The main speakers I used to test with for music were my pair of SS-F5000 floor speakers from the same line. After configuring the sub placement and volume level for music (I figured it would be easier to determine the appropriate volume through music and not a movie with special effects), I watched a couple of action movies. The level was appropriate for these as well, and the floor shook to a gratifying degree at the appropriate times. (I have not tried the automatic sensing of where bass is needed, and don't really plan to, since the crossover on my receiver is preset relatively high, meaning it would be on all of the time anyway.)
All things considered, this sub can do all I wanted it to do, namely provide a natural filling-out of the lower frequencies in my music as well as reproduce the rumbles and booms in action movies. I would recommend this sub to anyone on a tight budget, although I feel it is a great product regardless of its low cost."

"Had this sub for a little over a week, and I love it! It only cost $100 and it was totally worth it! I'm currently watching The Dark Knight and at some parts, by windows were shaking! I am really pleased with this Sony Sub! Thanks to this 10'' Sub, I will be buying Sony floor standing and a center channel and also Sony bookshelf speakers! What's great about it: Price and sound
What's not so great: Power
"This is a budget sub. If you have the money or need more power, I recommend to go with Klipsch or Polk. My next sub will be Klipsch once I get a new sub with new speakers. I had to get a new sub bc I got a new Pioneer receiver. My old Sony receiver was a part of a htib and came with a passive sub. This thing is cheap and does it job. The bass is control and tight. No rattling or boomy sounds. For a 100 bucks, you can't beat this deal. Plus they match my current Sony speakers. Don't use the cable in the box and get something of a better quality to use."

"Whenever I first went out to buy a subwoofer, I wasn't looking for anything too expensive. I'm in college and don't have the money to pay for a $500+ subwoofer, so I decided to try out the Sony SA-W2500 based on reviews on here and on Amazon.com. After hooking up the subwoofer, I was immediately surprised with the amount of bass this little guy can pump out. While it does not give you the "chest vibration" feeling you feel sometimes at concerts or movie theaters, you can still feel the whole room shake.
This is a great subwoofer for the price. I definitely recommend it to anyone that isn't willing to throw down tons of money for a subwoofer, but still wants some great bass!"

Best Sub under $100

What's great about it: Deep Bass, no distortion and amazing for under $100
What's not so great: Controls are hard to reach in the back.
"I personally owned a $600 300 watts Polk subwoofer which I enjoyed for many years. I got this Sony sub for my brother who needed one for his home theater and I was amazed at the quality of the bass. While it is not as powerfull as my $600 Polk subwoofer, this Sony has got to be the best $100 sub-woofer on the market. For less than $100, you get 100 watt amp driving a 10 inch subwoofer so his DVD and Blu-Ray movies will sound great. I did not detect any distortion and it does not sound boomy at all. In my opinion, the bass quality sounded at least as good as a $200 subwoofer. This is a great home theater upgrade and most buyers will be pleased at the deep bass for the money that they paid. This product has to be a must-have for people putting together a home theater sound system on a tight budget."
