So far this blender works for what we need it to. Mostly making soups and sometimes smoothies. Haven't tested out the ice crushing ability. Only complaints I have is that the off button is also the pulse button so you have to give it one more blast before it turns off, kind of annoying. Also that black plastic ring is worthless. I took it off and left it off. Speeds don't seem all that necessary. The middle speeds seem to all be about the same. For the price though I think it is worth it.
What's great about it: It makes soup
What's not so great: Annoying features and low quality components

I thought the blender would look nice on the counter until I realized that the bottom of pitcher is made of cheap plastic (I purchased the blender online). The blender is the loudest I've had and it takes FOREVER to make a smoothie using frozen fruit. You have to add liquid or keep shaking the jar. It's going back ASAP!!

I would have given good rating but for flimsy plastic base which cracked after year, the o ring rubber also broke. Not very impressed. Though motor is still going strong but not the best. Having thick thing like ice cream will freeze it and it would budge until you dilute

I always look to buy devices with motors with large wattage ratings. When a person buys something with a small wattage rating it just burns out, then you have to replace it making the final purchase expensive. This Oster® blender is rated at 450 Watts whereas my 350 Watt blender has just smoked just when I didn't need the problem.
What's great about it: This blender has a powerful motor.

Fair blender but there are much cheaper ones out there.
You would not usually conisder on purchasing a blender how noisy it is. This one is very loud. In the mornings if you want to make a shake you could wake the whole house. You can not have a conversation near it.

I've owned this blender for over 6 months, and I haven't had the best of luck with it. What drew me to it were the reviews on here; however, I haven't had the same results. I mainly use it to make fruit smoothies, so even if I'm using frozen fruit, slightly defrosted frozen fruit, or ice, it takes a VERY long time for it to blend/mix my smoothie (yes I include some liquid when I'm blending).
I hope everyone else continues to have better luck with theirs. Mine was a dud.

Great blender for the price. It pulverizes anything you put into in seconds.
I use it mainly for protein shakes - ice and frozen fruits are no problem.
Nice looking too although the chrome finish base is actually plastic, still Im very happy with this purchase.

I absolutely love my new blender. I searched Google for ratings and specs and found that most people love this blender. Now I know why. My fruit & protein smoothies are quick and easy. This thing doesn't even wake my husband! My previous blender was a Hamilton-Beach 10-speed and THAT was loud. I promise that you will love this blender. I searched long & hard and found that most of every reviewer on various sites recommends this blender.
What's great about it: Whips up my frozen/fresh fruit protein smoothies in seconds

I have owned this blender for less than 30 days and it started smoking the other night while I was blending Ice & Booze.. Would not recommend based on it not even making it 30 days.

I save loads on making my own knock off version of Starbuck's caramel frappachino's with this awesome machine! : ) it blends everything together and makes it a deliciously smooth.

This blender has changed my life for the better! When i first bought it I was in a very deep rut... didn't want to go anywhere, do anything... spent my days just sittin around the apartment. Then one day, i had an idea... i would make a smoothie featuring bananas and strawberries... crazy, i know. Sounds easy enough... i went to the market bought some strawberries and bananas and fruti juice and brought them home... very excited! Then it happened...i was crushed with the realization that i no longer owned a blender... i was ready to give up. I moped around for a couple of days until i had a revelation... i could buy a brand new blender at Best Buy. I ran down the street to BB (drove actually... HELLLLLOOOOOO, it is like 3 miles away) and started to look for blenders (didnt know if they sold them or not). Because the store was organized so well... i was able to find the blenders aisle lickety split :) There were some really expensive ones there , stainless steel and everything and there were a couple of cheapies... all plastic, all the time. And then i saw this one... great looking, very attractive perfectly priced and the customer service rep assured me that it blends stuff. i was overjoyed! I grabbed it off the shelf and ran to the checkout line (literally ran). They rang me up and for some reason the price was even cheaper than posted on the shelf... this was MY DAY people! Anyway, i brought it home and made a smoothie... it was ok, tasted kinda bittter actually... i think cause i didnt remove the tops of the strawberries.... but what the hell, i got it done. Im still just hanging around the apartment but find myself thinking of going out and doing stuff more and more. The end.
What's great about it: uh Helllllloooooo... EVERYTHING!
What's not so great: Not a thing

Before I begin my review, I should start out by saying that I am a bit of a blender snob, and I collect them for fun. I didn't really NEED a blender, but I saw the display model at Best Buy and couldn't resist.
That being said, I am very impressed with this blender. It is consistent with the quality that I expect from Oster. It blended the same Strawberry Banana Smoothie that I always make MUCH better than the 7-year old KitchenAid blender that I often use - no chunks whatsoever. I tested the ice crush feature, and it made mince meat out of ice in 2-3 seconds. In fact, I would dare say that it crushes ice perfectly, and faster than any of my other blenders. I also appreciate the Easy Clean feature - a definite bonus. I like the metal drive shaft MUCH better than the plastic teeth on the KitchenAid and Cuisinart - there is no guesswork as far as where/when to place the jar on top of the base; no teeth that could potentially break/wear (note: the teeth have never broken on my KitchenAid or Cuisinart, so I am just speaking about potentialities). The jar is designed for MUCH easier pouring than any other blender I have used. If you are at all concerned with the presentation/appearance of your blending results, this blender certainly delivers.
Why a 4-star instead of a 5? The plastic collar is much more fragile than other blenders I have used (also, more fragile than other Oster's that I have seen).
The rest of my cons are very nit-picky and may not bother most people.
If anyone is familiar with the smell of a new blender motor, this blender (along with Cuisinart and Waring blenders) has that new motor smell if you let it run for more than 15 seconds. Personally, this does not bother me, but I have noticed that it makes some people nervous. My initial ice-crush experiment actually produced ice that was infused with the smell, but a few good cleanings should solve that problem.
The rest of my cons are very nit-picky and may not bother most people.
If anyone is familiar with the smell of a new blender motor, this blender (along with Cuisinart and Waring blenders) has that new motor smell if you let it run for more than 15 seconds. Personally, this does not bother me, but I have noticed that it makes some people nervous. My initial ice-crush experiment actually produced ice that was infused with the smell, but a few good cleanings should solve that problem.
The lid is not the best I have ever seen - It does have a removable cap in the center, but it is black and does not have measured lines like the Cuisinart.
Louder than the KitchenAid (KSB5ER4), but quieter than the Cuisinart (BFP-10CH).
Despite these minor things, I would highly, highly recommend this blender!
What's great about it: Looks great, crushes ice perfectly and quickly, blends smoothies completely w/o chunks
What's not so great: Plastic collar is a little flimsy

I love this blender. It is great for blending fruits and vegetables into a shake. It is heavy on the bottom so it wont slip off the counter. I dont suggest it for people with small children. Its a great kitchen appliance.
What's great about it: Blends fruits and vegetables with pecision. Crushes ice well. Makes great shakes.
What's not so great: I just brought it a week ago but no problems and I use it every day.

Have purchased over three blenders in the past year, as we have frequent visitors, none of which lasted long (obviously). This Oster blender fits right into our decor, has the power we need and the cleaning ease and durability we'd hoped for.
What's great about it: Great handle and lid coverage with easy to see dual purpose buttons.
What's not so great: The blending container itself is made of glass and a little solid.

I got this to make smoothies and it works great. The only problem is that its hard to get the blender to crush up the ice and get to blending the drink. The blade spins and the contents of the blender don't move so I have to stir it up myself to get it going again. Other than that problem, it works phenomenally and I couldn't be happier with the machine. Definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a cheap, sturdy blender.
What's great about it: Cheap, efficient, easy to clean
What's not so great: Doesn't crush ice that quickly

GREAT PRODUCT AND DOES ITS JOB FOR A GOOD PRICE
I replaced my Osterizer Blender that I had for years and just kept on working. WHen the carafe cracked I bought a new one instead of replacing that part and bought Oster as my old one was so good. THis is even better-lots of speeds and power and looks so good I can leave on counter. At the high speeds when it was on it was slowly moving around a little bit on the counter and when I called Oster about it and looked for the model # on the bottom I saw the legs had protein powder on them (OOPS!) and cleaning that off seemed to handle it. Also, all Oster products are interchangeable so my old food processor for my old blender or any other attachments will work on this new base-nice bonus!
PS I am a very picky consumer and hard to please.
