What's great about it: Easy to use, works right out of the box
What's not so great: On MacBooks, better to disable Airport before using.
"We have now brought two of these for family with MacBooks who do not have their own wireless network or use them when they travel. We have found you do need to disable Airport, but all you do is plug it in and it works. The reception range is excellent, usually better signal strength than the build in wireless reception (antenna location around screen?), picking up freebie wireless networks (McDonalds, motels, other places now offering free wireless) without even being near their facility. Speed is very good if the network is 802.11g, dropping with increasing distance as expected. If you have a Mac, ensure to order this device (HWUG1A) and not the regular HWUG1 USB. Even though the Mac as Intel processors, the OSX Leopard didn't recognize it. We highly recommend this, and will probably be purchasing several more for our kids for Christmas for their MacBooks."

What's great about it: Easy install
What's not so great: Kids have a habit of moving it
"I was looking for a quick, easy way to integrate a PC into our wireless network, and this was on sale at Best Buy that week. Install was straightforward. The adapter seems to connect well and have a strong signal, so two thumbs up from me."

What's great about it: easy to install, quick to connect, good signal strength
What's not so great: none that I can think of
"After dealing with various other brands of USB adapters this one was a breeze to install and to connect to the network. I think the added antenna helps with the signal.
I purchased a USB extension cord in order to place the adapter on the desk so it wouldn't have to sit behind the computer."

What's great about it: Works on Mac OS X
What's not so great: A tad bit bulky
"This will work on 10.3-10.5 despite what the Hawking site said. Just use the 10.4 setup instruction on the disk and voila it works. My pro comment says it all.
Attractive price, upgradeable antenna and Mac OS X support."

Instead of original airport card

What's great about it: It works in USB1!!
What's not so great: It blocks part of the other usb port. Not for OSX.2
"I got this adapter for my old 800mhz g3 ibook that is running OSX.4. This model uses the original airport card (802.11b) that is hard and expensive to come by. This unit works well with the usb1 port(better than I expected). Some youtube videos look a little choppy but bearable.Online browsing is just fine. Comes with the "Hawking's Utility" which will connect you to the web every time you plug the usb adapter. (It even shows the strength and security of the available networks.) The only buts that I find is that the drivers only work with OSX.3 or OSX.4 and that sticks out ;) Other than that this is a solid product."

HWUG1A is Mac only!

"The HWUG1A is Mac only. The does box says Mac Compatible, and the bottom of the box gives only Mac system requirements. If you need a windows version, the HWUG1 (there's no A on the end) is the right one. On a different note, an external and upgradeable antenna is incredibly cool and comes in real handy!"

"If you just need a fast way to hop on to a wireless network but don't have a wifi card, this baby is just what you need. Fifty bucks and you're off at 54mbps. Personally, I ONLY use a hard line connection @ 100mbps, but if you don't mind slightly less than perfect connection, then have at it!"
