What's great about it: Gorgeous images.
What's not so great: A bit pricey.
"This TV is gorgeous. The 120hz refresh seems to make all the difference. Images are smooth and crisp with never any visible pixillation. If you're looking for top-of-the-line in LCD televisions, this is your pick."

What's great about it: Average Quality
What's not so great: Loud Humming noise
"After 6 months of use there is a loud humming noise coming from the unit. So loud in fact I can often hear it over the audio of the program I am watching."

What's great about it: Picture quality, matte screen, wide viewing angle, good factory speakers
What's not so great: Haven't found any yet.
"I've had this TV for about a month now and I sure am glad I got it! I've gotten quite a few compliments about the look of the TV itself and the picture quality. Prior to purchasing, I already knew I wanted either the XBR4 or the LNxxA750. Main reasons why I chose the XBR over the A750 are:
1) My living room has a 5' x 7' window that lights the room, so I preferred the matte finish screen over the glossy screen.
2) I have recliners on the end of a love seat, which directly faces the TV, while the recliners face the TV at an angle. The XBR4 has the wider viewing angle, whereas the A750 more often than not requires you to be at the "sweet spot" for decent or better viewing.
3) It's a Sony!!!"

What's great about it: Great picture, nice design
What's not so great: Not the best tv out there
"This TV is good if you can spend a lot of money. I returned it and got samsung a650 instead because Sony falls bit short in color contrast compared to samsung's. BTW samsung is cheaper and I heard samsung makes LCD for sony or something."

What's great about it: Industrial Design
What's not so great: LCD Ghosting
"We bought this TV and had it installed on the wall with the Sanus articulating wall mount. It looks beautiful when ON or OFF. The set looks really nice. I'm not sure if it's the Sony XBR or LCD technology (in general) but I can definitely notice signs of ghosting. After I bought the TV I was contemplating on returning it for a plasm (Pioneer). Being that I watch a lot of sports I thought the plasma would be best. I didn't notice the ghosting until the technicians pointed it out. Now that I know what it is I am always looking for it. The picture quality is phenomenal when watching Blu-Ray discs. Anyways, I think the TV is good for what it is. It is probably comparable to most 120hz LCD's on the market but what sets it apart is the exterior industrial design. It's like the Apple Mac's of flat panel TV's."

Excellent and Expensive

What's great about it: Crisp image, good contrast, huge variety of adjustment variables, integration with other Sony products, reliability
What's not so great: Some adjustments not sensitive enough, needs more HDMI ports (has 3), no HDMI cables provided
"No regrets with this purchase. Once the HD digital cable service was installed, excellent picture (showed snow and ghosting before digital signal was connected). I wish it had one or two more HDMI input ports so that I wouldn't have to use A/V inputs to watch TV using the internal tuner. The fact that a digital cable box must be used to see the channel guide and channel info is a real inconvenience, but that's the cable company's lack. When the box is bypassed and the regular cable is used, the picture is noticeably better than analog, but clearly worse than HDTV. I'll be looking for an off-the-air UHF/HD antenna to get the best possible picture quality for local stations. I'm 15 miles from the TV towers, but a high-gain antenna with a pre-amp could be powerful enough to allow mounting in the attic to keep the antenna out of sight. This Bravia XBR sometimes pixelates when the cable signal is inconsistent, but I don't think it's the TV's fault."

What's great about it: Great picture
What's not so great: Price is higher then other brands
"We purchased a samsung at least and it was blurred and returned the TV back to Best Buy no problem returning and got the Sony XBR4 and love it. The picture is clear and the setup was so easy no adjustment had to be changed. The salesperson at Best Buy doesn't push Sony. But we have other Sony TV's and you can't get a better picture."

What's great about it: HDMI and Vivid picture qualities
What's not so great: Needs just 1 more HDMI output
"I have had this television for several months. I have never had any picture quality issues, and compared to another off-brand LCD that someone bought me, it is very impressive. Maybe it's because it's a Sony. It does cost slightly more than other LCD TV's; however, it is well worth it."

Better than XBR2
04/20/2008
By Monsterberg

What's great about it: 120 Hz refresh rate, PIP, better menu system
What's not so great: No two HDMI signals for PIP, possible minor HDMI signal issue
"Recently had a 46" XBR2 stolen from my house (which is no longer produced) and replaced it with the XBR4. The black frame/housing looks better than the silver of the XBR2 (looks more like a picture frame when mounted on the wall). The menu system is much easier to use (a lot like the Playstation 3 menu system). If you are mounting the TV to the wall, the mounting terminals are much better than the XBR2. All audio/video connections are in the right rear, with only the power connection to the left. The mounting terminals are more centered on the XBR4, which means you can actually reach many of the audio/video connections without having to take the TV off the wall mount. The XBR4 includes picture in picture and a better surround sound processor. One possible fault is that you cannot have two HDMI signals displayed with PIP at the same time (ask the question before you buy should you want to watch to HDMI signals at once). If you want a longer (6 months) warranty, go with the XBR5. Also, I have noticed that when powering on the TV and using the HDMI connection from a Directv HD DVR, sometimes there is no audio initially. Changing the channel corrects the issue (could be a minor HDMI signaling issue) So far, the TV has worked well (like my old XBR2), and includes some nice upgrades."

Never been happier with a TV!

What's great about it: Image quality, User friendly, Compatibility with other Sony electronics.
What's not so great: So far so good!
"As a first time HDTV flat screen buyer, I couldn't have been more satisfied with my purchase. This TV easily exceeded all my expectation so far. First, I could not make up my mind between LCD and plasma, but the fact that my living room has lots of windows made the LCD choice a no-brainer. Man, it could be as bright as it can get but I will easily watch TV from 30 to 40 feet away with zero glare on the screen. Next, I had to pick a brand and it pretty much came down to between Samsung and Sony. But most Samsung TVs do not really address the glare issue because of their glossy front and on top of that I must say I am a natural fan of the Sony brand. Finally, I was on the fence between the XBR4 and the XBR5. I printed out the spec for both of them and compare them side by side and basically I did not see any difference while the price difference was quite big. So I told myself may be I am missing something and armed with questions I went to my local best buy store. There, the floor manager could not convince either that there was a substantial difference between the two and that the XBR5 was worth the extra cost. So I decided to buy the 46XBR4 and had it mounted above the fireplace on a 25-foot tall stone wall by the Geek squad. I did not know they could do it, but they did a great job! I completed my home theater system with Sony STR-DG810 6.1 Channels receiver and Yamaha surround sound speakers. Boy did that pimp out my living room!"

What's great about it: Picture quality and sound
What's not so great: None
"Out of the box, this TV had an almost flawless picture quality. I have HD Directv and the supplied HDMI cable Directv provides does nothing the picture capabilities of this TV. I would recommend the HDMI cable from BB that is compatible with 120hz TV. I definitely can see the difference in picture quality. Even the picture quality when I play my XBOX 360 with component cables is pretty much impeccable. I read the reviews on this TV before I purchased it, and unfortunately BB did not have this model at the store (I had to order), but you have to experience the TV to understand it's quality. Now you may have to toggle between the "Vivid" and "Standard" picture quality but that is small potatoes. Some of my friends and family came over to watch it and compared it to there LCDs of other brands and agreed the picture quality is so much better than there's. They have LGs and Panasonics, and Vizios. To truly experience the picture quality, you have to have HD channels. I also have to tip my hat to BB representative for providing me with a spectacular price tag on this model TV. I almost passed on this model just because of the price, but the BB rep. made it hard to pass up. I even got the "green light" from the lady of the house when she heard the deal."

REAL PIECE OF ART
03/08/2008
By STENHUSET

What's great about it: PICTURE CLARITY, GREAT DESIGN
What's not so great: IMPACT ON ELECTIRC BILL (?)
"THIS SET IS A REAL PIECE OF ART. THE OUTER FRAME SETS THE PICTURE OFF NICELY. EVERYONE HAS COMMENTED ON THE WONDERFUL CLARITY OF THE PICTURE. SOUND SYTEM WORKS FINE.
OUR VIEWING AREA IS 20 FEET DEEP AND THE 46INCH SCREEN IS APPROPRIATE FOR THE ROOM AND PROVIDES AN EXCELLENT PICTURE FOR EVERYONE. VIEWING FROM THE SIDES IS INCREDIBLE.
SOME HD CHANNELS, INCLUDING THE LOCAL NBC STATION, HAVE TROUBLE WITH CONSISTENT HD TRANSMISSION, BUT THERE IS A NOTICEABLE QUALITY IMPROVEMENT IN THE PICTURE OVER CONVENTIONAL. CONTROLS ARE LOGICAL AND EASY TO FOLLOW.
THE SET IS A LITTLE PRICEY, BUT IT PROBABLY IS THE "GOLD STANDARD" OF THE INDUSTRY.
WE ARE WATCHING MORE PROGRAMS BUT I MUST SAY THAT THAT ALONE DOESN'T JUSTIFY THE NOTICEABLE IMPACT ON OUR ELECTRIC BILLS.
THIS IS THE LAST TV PURCHASE OF THIS LIFETIME, SO I WENT WITH THE BEST! YOU WON'T BE SORRY."
