What's great about it: Good range of sound
What's not so great: Hurts/not for active people!

You have to get the right fit   08/03/2008
By bestBuyBK from Atlanta, GA

"After using a pair of cheap low-quality earbuds for a long time, the Shure SE-110's were a major improvement. For those who find the bass non-existent, you absolutely MUST have the correct sleeves fitted for a tight seal in your ear canal. When I tried them out for the first time with the foam sleeves that were on them, there was no bass and I was wondering why I had just spent $100 on these things. Then, after trying out several of the provided bud sleeves I found the right fit (you'll know it when you find it because it will feel like you put earplugs in and ambient sound disappears). The bass sounded very good after that. Bass will be clear, but not as encompassing as it could be for some genres like electronic. You're probably not going to get fantastic bass from ANY earbud unless you buy one of the $400 models.
These were comfortable to wear (I ended up using one of the soft flex sleeves which aren't as comfortable as the foam rubber, but it gave me the best seal). If I had not found the right fit of sleeve I would have returned these.

Huge Disappointment - NO Bass - Not Worth $100   07/28/2008
By Saloneboy from New York, NY

What's great about it: Secure Fitting in Ear
What's not so great: No Bass Whatsoever

"All I can say is what a dissappointment!!! I took these earbuds off as quickly as I was excited to see what my $100 bucks would offer me in return. I found sound absolutly awful. I felt as if I was listening to music being projected through an aluminum pan. Even after attempting to adjust the equilizer on my iPod, it offered little to no difference. Most noticable was there was no bass at all. If bass is a prequisite to your music/listening genre, then STEER CLEAR from the this entry-level Shure product. I currently own the Bose Triport, and wanted to purchase the Shures since it appeared to be better designed to fit my ears than the Bose, however the Bose Triport's sound quality FAR EXCEEDS that of these Shure. After this side-by-side comparison, it may me appreciate my poorly designed Bose Triports significantly more than the Shures.
As you read the reviews, see if you can gain any insight on what these customers are comparing this product with. Of course these will be better than the stardard iPod plugs; but $100 better??? I think NOT!

Excellent upgrade   06/19/2008
By FrankR from Los Angeles, CA

What's great about it: Excellent sound, great price, smart upgrade
What's not so great: May be uncomfortable for some

"I purchased the Shure SE110 earbuds to replace my ipod stock earphones, and I must say I am completely satisfied. The difference between the Shures and any other stock earphones is very significant. You will not know how bad stock earphones are until you try these. These are great earbuds with a lot of clarity in the highs and good solid bass sound. Since these earbuds go into the ear, they greatly reduce the outside noise, and that is why I love to use the Shures whenever I travel on the plane or the bus. I highly recommend these earbuds, plus they only double of what another pair of apple earphones would cost you."

Great earphones, I tried some others   06/17/2008
By USP45 from Dallas

What's great about it: Overall excellent SQ, multiple fitment options, well built
What's not so great: Maybe a bit low on bass, but very negligable.

"First off I tried three different sets of earphones, the Skullcandy Titan's, the Sony MDREX85lp's and the Shure SE110's. The Skullcandy set was actually pretty good, I would rate it 2nd behind the Shure's as they were not quite as clear, but the bass was as good, maybe a touch better but hardly noticable. The Sony's had some pretty good base, noticably better then either the Shure's or Skullcandy set, but beyond that the mid/high/clarity was waayyy behind. I actually bought the Skullcandy first, took them back to try the Shure's. Once I had the Shure's I read on here where the Sony 85's had great bass and sounded good so I wanted to try. I went back, walked in and bought the Sony's (had the Shure's back in the box in case) and went out to the car and listened for all of 2 minutes maybe, the Shure's just BLOW the Sony's away in clarity/mids/highs/quality/fit. The difference in SQ was astounding, yes the Sony's had harder bass, but it was not a clear good bass, it was just there. Beyond that I would rate the $50 Skullcandy's as being pretty good, and pretty clear, but not as good as the Shure's. Better then the Sony's though.
Overall I would absolutely recommend the Shure SE110's as a good medium priced set of earbud headphones. I only wish that I had the disposable income to try their $450 SE530 set as I am shure (no pun intended) that they would be increadible. Just so possible listeners know I listen to mainly electronic music that is both bass heavy and normally very well isolated/mixed.

great sound, good price   06/09/2008
By pete3423 from rochester ny

What's great about it: good sound, good price, durable
What's not so great: a little heavy

"I have had these earphones for about six months now. I have put them through alot as a student, full time worker, and jogger. they have held up wonderfully after all i have put them through. The cord is thicker than the cords on most standard earphones. The range of earbud sleaves that come with the se110 make a perfect fit in my ears for any situation. The sound on them is phenominal for the money. sure there are better sounding earbuds out there, but they cost $400. The bass hits hard and the trebble end is so clear you literally hear things in your music that you never heard before. The sound isolating works great, but you need to remember, there is no active sound cancelling on these so some noise will get through, and it depends on the fit you get with the sleaves. The only disadvantage that I can think of is the weight. There is a disconnect about 18 inches from the earbuds so you can add a longer cord if you desire, well, this seems to make them kind of heavy on the ears. Not the best for spor use but these earphones excel in all other areas."

By TXZach from Texas

What's great about it: Sound Quality, Comfort
What's not so great: none yet

"I wasn't sure if the $100 would be worth it for headphones, but now I wonder what the $200 or $300 pair does. These sound fantastic and they are very comfortable. I mainly use them on airplanes, but I love em so far."

Dissappointing   05/17/2008
By JohnnyNoGame from Detroit

What's great about it: Great clarity & sound isolation.
What's not so great: Virtually NO bass!

"Everything about these earbuds were great! Quality, clarity and the high and mid power. Very loud yet clear. However, the HUGE letdown was that they had virtually no bass! Whether the volume was high or low it didnt matter. I even tried experimenting with the factory supplied rubber and foam buds but it didnt help. Great sound isolating earbuds but for the price, I would highly recommend Sony MDREX55. They are way cheaper, and in my opinion, produce a much more "well rounded" sound while providing sound isolation. I will definitly be taking these Shure earbuds back and getting the Sony's!"

They arent good!!   05/13/2008
By Jonathan7877 from Dublin, CA

What's great about it: Noise canceling.
What's not so great: Everything else!

"These have some of the best noise canceling! Other than that, the right ear bud has blown out three times now... they are made of really bad quality. I've exchanged three times but yet they suck. I may have to go get some Bose ones now since these are so bad."

Crisp and Clear   05/02/2008
By ToddV from Columbus, Ohio

What's great about it: Design, Sound, Noise Cancelling
What's not so great: Form fitting headphone adapters are terrible

"I am used to paying +$100 for headphones, so these didn't seem like they could perform much differently from other headphones I had purchased. They came pre-fitted with the form fitting earpads and the sound was awful. Put the rubber fitting earpads on them (they come with two types of earpads) and the sound quality was the best I have heard in a set of headphones. They wrap around the back side of your ear and fit in upside down (like singers in concerts use). This cuts down on the ear pull and makes the fit and stay aspect much better, especially if you work out - they won't continually wiggle loose. They are sharp, crisp, deliver excellent bass, and block outside noise(with the rubber earpads). I see why professional singers use Shure products."

Worth Every Penny   05/02/2008
By Chila1217

What's great about it: Great sound isolation and sound quality.
What's not so great: Earpieces sometimes fall out of ears.

"I got these for my MP3 player to replace the standard issue ones. While looking for a pair of headphones that had good quality and were sound isolating/reducing, I stumbled upon these. I compared 3-4 different earbuds/headphones and since my first choice, another pair of Shure earbuds, were no longer in stock, I decided on these. I'm glad I did! There are 6 pairs of ear pads for different ear sizes which was a plus. It takes some time determining which set of pads/sleeves work best for the user but other than the occasional falling out of the ear, I would highly recommend them due to the great sound isolation and quality. If you would use these in high traffic areas, where you would need to hear noises around you, I would NOT get them. They really do block out a lot of noises that would be around you."

worth the price   04/30/2008
By tac379 from Belmont, MA

What's great about it: great sound, good bass, multiple ear bud options for a good 'seal'
What's not so great: high frequencies not as good as lows

"For $100, these are good headphones. I was looking for an alternative to the bose over the ear noise cancelling headphones (kind of clunky to have those tossed in the backpack) and for the price these are a great alternative.
With the earbuds properly in, I really can't hear anything besides the music, which sounds crisp clean and clear. Outside noise really is completely blocked out, which makes riding on public transportation much less of a headache (literally). The low frequencies sound great (r&b and rap music sounds perfect), although if there's a minor shortcoming it may be the range of highs.
My one major complaint is that sometimes the sound cuts out in the right ear. I twist the connection on my ipod and it comes back. Since it's almost 5 years old, I'm thinking this is simply a bad connection coming from the ipod, and not because of the headphones.
I read a review before I purchased these that said they are the best overall headphones you can purchase for less than $100. I'm no expert, but I think that's a fair assessment, and would gladly purchase them again if I had to do it over.

Good Upgrade   02/28/2008
By BuellRider from Omaha, NE

What's great about it: Great sound, good fit

"This product has good sound from high to low, will not fall out, and even keeps unwanted sounds out. If they are painful or lack in bass, you need to use a different ear size insert. It comes with six different ear size inserts try them all. The foam inserts have the best bass."

High quality product   02/23/2008
By qaid

What's great about it: great sound, excellent sound isolation
What's not so great: a little tight at first, takes a while to get used to

"I have owned this product for half a year. I'll admit that at first they hurt my ears but the reviews I read told me to stick with the earphones and eventually I'll get used to them. Well, they were right--this product takes a few days to get used to but once you have figured out how to wear them and choose which tip fits best (there are 3 different sizes), the earphones are amazing. I use them for everything. Especially good for when you are on the plane because these block outside noise extremely well. The softer yellow tips are most comfortable and the clear tips block out the most sound, but I find the black tips to be "just right." Also of note, Shure has a 2 year warranty, so when some of my cord wiring was exposed, I was able to ship back my Shures for repairs free of charge."

Works well   02/20/2008
By cjay25 from Orlando, Fl

What's great about it: Noise cancelling
What's not so great: Initial fitting, you have to plug in the second cord to make it one long cord

"At first you have to stick the foam ear cushions in your ear like ear plugs and switch them around to find the right size for your ear. The instructions suggest you turn the headphones upside down and wrap the cord around your ear. I don't know why they just made headphones that wrap around your ear instead.
I mainly use these for working out at the gym. My gym likes to blare music right above the cardio machines.
I'm pretty satisfied with these headphones. I don't hear the thumping of peoples' feet pounding on the treadmills, the music or person next to me chatting on his/her cell. It doesn't block out all other noises completely, but it does isolate your music well.

At work, folks have to wave their hands to get my attention, because I can't hear anything else.

Great if don't want small inear   02/13/2008
By KKash from NY, NY

What's great about it: small, work great, nice design, really cancel noise
What's not so great: wait 5 seconds till they fit your ear, wire a little too long

"These headphones are great if you do not want the big ones that go over your ear. I wanted to get something i can use everyday with my iPod. I use them on the train and on flights, they really cancel out all the noise around me to an almost wisper. They are comfertable in your ear as much as any headphones, maybe more. You just have to get used to putting them on the appropriate way. you need to squize the mushy part and hold them in your ear for 5 seconds till the expand again and fit your ear. also you should wrap them around your ear so that they stay in place, as instructed in the 'how to use' booklet that comes with."

Great headphones for their price   02/10/2008
By JustinJ from Urbana, IL

What's great about it: Sound quality, price to performance ratio
What's not so great: Shape, fit

"These headphones are incredible if you're looking for some good quality, low-cost headphones to replace the cheap earbuds that come with your MP3 player. These headphones sit deep in your ear, which may cause some discomfort, however they block out a good part of any background noise and provide great quality. Bass response is a little weak, but for the price, these headphones cannot be beat!"

What's great about it: Comfortable, good sound, cord options
What's not so great: None

"Great headphones for a reasonable price. They keep a surprising amount of noise out so they are ideal for travel. The cord is fantastic - you can keep it extra short (e.g. if you have a Shuffle) - or add the extension... very versatile. I would definitely recommend these to anyone."

Good But I have Heard Better for $100.00   02/07/2008
By AntPas63 from Lakewood NJ

What's great about it: Great fit, good supply of ear tips, nice case.
What's not so great: the older model sounded much better also the 1/8" jack sould be at a 90 degree angle to protect from accidental damage

"These are Good But I have Heard Better they are better than stock headphones but this model SE-110 replaced the model #-E2C and I think the older ones are much better sounding They do fit well and as with any in ear headphones it is important to try all of the ear tips for the best fit for you. Again they sound good but I think they should be priced at around the seventy or eighty dollar range. So try and get your hands on the older model# E2c or the SCL2 some places still have older stock if you search for them."
