What's great about it: quiet, fast on 600DPI or less, LED no wait tecnology
What's not so great: image quality, won't work with PaperPort, slow on 800dpi & above

"I could not get this this scanner to give a clear copy on text documents or photos. Text was really fuzzy, my old 1200dpi Visioneer was crystal clear @300dpi, this was still fuzzy @800dpi. Even PhotoShop scans were blurry. I returned it for a different brand that is working fine."

What's great about it: scans in film, interfeace is easy to use
What's not so great: kind of bulky

"I bought this scanner almost a year ago to scan in film negatives, and have been very happy with it. It has a lot of features that help me get the best scans from my negatives, and it came with a variety of different holder so I can scan in 35mm, 120, or mounted slide film, as well as the standard documents/photos. And you can scan straight to pdf. I always use it through photoshop, so I'm not sure how the buttons on the top work, but they seem pretty easy to use. I would recommend this scanner to anyone who needs a scanner, but also wants to do their own digital copies of film/slides."

I was surprised!   08/08/2008
By jetlite

"I've now had the scanner for several weeks, and I'm really impressed with how well the scanner works. It gives consistent results every time. I haven't played with the software that came with the scanner, but it imports just fine using Photoshop Elements 5. I'm running Vista and it hasn't caused Vista to hiccup once.
I've tried several settings, and I get the best results if I scan at 4800, and each slide takes around 2-3 min.

For regular scanning it is quite fast. I can do a copy from the scanner to the printer. In fact my printer is one of those all in one jobs, I can do a copy from the Canon to the printer, faster than I can do a copy with the printer alone."

What's great about it: Nice Looks
What's not so great: Scanned pictures sometimes not clear

"I have to admit, this was one of the easiest products to take out of the box and set up. Most of the time the scanner works great, however sometimes the pictures to not come out as clear as the original."

User-friendly, great results   07/21/2008

What's great about it: photos scan beautifully
What's not so great: negatives are *very slow* to scan

"This is the first scanner I've ever owned and all I had to do was open up the box, download the driver, and start scanning. I hate to admit I haven't poured over the instructions...but everything was so user-friendly, I didn't need to.
I started out scanning both black and white as well as color photographs for a family reunion. The results were very impressive. The photos I then printed out from my scanned images were better looking than some of their originals. Part of this was due to the fact that I could print out the images bigger than the original photos, but it also seemed to pick up clearer details.
I'm not sure I can gush as much about the scanning of negatives, which is a major reason why I chose this model. I had mixed results, and cannot tell if the negatives were just in bad shape or that I hadn't read enough of the manual to get the best results (this option may be a bit more tricky than just plan color photo scanning). Another word of caution on this function is that scanning negatives is slow going so although this is a great feature, don't expect to be able to scan all of your negatives as quickly as you can your photos. Granted, I chose an insanely high dpi when scanning in the negatives, so that is part of it.
Overall, though, I have to say the results on this are impressive. I do not feel it takes too long to scan photos and within one week of having it, I buzzed through a ton of pictures that I had from the pre-digital days.
I would highly recommend this scanner because it is very reasonably priced yet produces what seems to be close to professional results. I also know that as I learn more, results may get better with the slides/negatives.
Plus, the bottom line is that I spent way less on this than I would have taking negatives/slides to a camera shop and having them do it all.
It's also lightweight, which is a nice change from some of the consumer fax/printer/scanner all-in-ones.
This is a good solution for someone looking for a way to preserve older photos, slides, and/or negatives."

Amazing ability   07/21/2008

What's great about it: scans negatives into beautiful photos
What's not so great: none

"I bought this about a month ago to scan negatives into our computer and its ability and quality has blown my mind. This is the first of this type of scanner I've ever owned but I can not imagine getting a better unit for the money. It takes about 15 mintues to scan 8 negative images into the computer if your using the auto fix to remove dust and scratches which is defintely worth using. Or about 8 mnutes to scan the same negatives with out the auto fix on. I've scanned a couple of slides with great success a few negatives from the early 60's which are a different format and they worked great. I've scaned over 300 35MM negatives and it has worked perfectly. My computer is about two years old using windows xp and I couldn't be happier with what this scanner does for the money."

Not for slides   05/17/2008
By photocamper from New York

What's great about it: Fast scanning, relatively easy set up
What's not so great: not satisfactory for slides

"I purchased this unit to replace my HP PhotoSmart S20 scanner which cannot be used on Vista or a Mac. Unfortunately, when scanning the slides small circular random gray blotches appeared throughout the resulting scans when enlarged. It might not bother some people, but when taking the time to convert thousands of slides into a digital format such imperfections would ruin the project. For some reason the markings did not show up on scans of prints. Canon tech support, while spending considerable time on the phone with me, would not venture as to why the HP scans of the same slides did not have the markings.
It seems to be ok for scanning photos, but for my purposes it was not adequate and I will be returning it. I may try another physical unit to see if it was just this particular one."

What's great about it: Very fast scanning
What's not so great: I have not found one yet :)

The photo's I scanned look better than the originals. I can not want to scan my negatives. The softwear is very helpful. This is a great Scanner Way to go Canon..."

Nice job Canon   10/05/2007
By ProPhotographerWannaBe from Deer Trail, CO

What's great about it: Fast scans
What's not so great: Software may conflict with other programs but what else is new?

"I purchased this scanner because it now has CCD technology. I was impressed with the speed at which it scans photos, documents, slides and negatives. The images were crisp and clear and using automatic correction features i.e., dust and scratch removal and faded image correction, the images from the negatives and slides I scanned became better looking than the originals from the photo labs. Photo lab prints always seem to be a little yellow to me. The email feature is quite nice for quick scans to be sent via email. The option in the software prescan to choose which negatives you want to scan is very handy. PDF files are produced almost effortlessly. The copy feature in my installation needs to be tweaked for it to work, no biggie though. Overall, I give it a thumbs up! Way to go Canon....another first!"
