"This is first real life experience with a GPS and I really went after a good name brand, great price, and overall features. The unit is very well thought out, good looking, and very easy to learn and use right out of the box. Took me less than 1 min to get a signal and I was on my way. A lot upgrade features if you wish to utilize, but all in all, for a great price GPS unit, the TomTom One LE is worth every penny. Great unit."

"This is my 2nd GPS. I use them a lot being a storm chaser. I was excited to use the TomTom, my first GPS was a Garmin StreetPilot 10 years old.
The TomTom right now is a bit dissapointing. I love that it has the touch screen. This makes searching for stores, routes, etc. super easy and fast. It's probably the best feature. It also auto re-routes you, so if you miss your turn or decide to go slightly off of it's suggestions, it will recalculate and continue you back to your destination from wherever you happen to be. That's about where the good points end. Unfortunately for TomTom, I think these features are standards on any new GPS on the market today.
The problems I'm most upset with are: 1) Routes seem inferior. Fastest route on several occasions so far have seemed to be not the best route to take. I'm not convinced this is a flaw yet, because the routes it suggests aren't necessarily bad, but I don't think they are quite the 'fastest' as it suggests.
2) TomTom support and design is not focused on US. This is a European company trying to sell in the US. A lot of places the language is not designed for 'US' English. For example, the John Cleese voice only speaks in Yarks and Kilometers, not Miles and Feet.
3) The Weather and Traffic service is very dissapointing. The weather forecast does not give you the current conditions as advertised. It also has all the days in the forecast all screwed up. The first forecast day is yesterday and the highs and lows don't match up with the days they are actually for. The traffic feed is a nice idea too, suppose to route you around the slowest traffic... but unfortunately it seems the data is quite delayed and at least in one instance where there is road construction, TomTom wanted me to go up a road and NOT take the highway onramp because it thought it was closed. Nice attempt, but it was wrong, and it tried to take me down the road that WAS closed to get me to another highway onramp. Another nice idea that TomTom has is the road conditions service that comes with the Plus subscription (cheap price). Unfortuantely an annoying thing about it for me has been it's been displaying a snowflake in a red triangle suggesting snow on the road. But we haven't had any snow on the road! It finally went away after a couple days, but it makes me wonder how reliable the whole plus service is. Nice idea, but whats the point if the data is unreliable?
4) TomTom web site is poor on support. They say nothing about supporting CDMA phones, but I assure you, if you have a Sprint phone, Alltel, Verizon, etc. you CAN use your bluetooth phone with this device. But see item #3 regarding if you'd want to.
I will add that people say some incorrect things here. It DOES have a lot of Points of Interest (POIs) with phone numbers of the store/hotel, etc. You have to connect it to the computer and use the Home software to update your GPS with the latest software. I'm sure the software updates also fix any lockups people may have reported.
Hardware-speaking the device has worked flawlessly for me, but I did all the updates right away."

"Tomtom one routing engine is the most efficient one i have ever seen.If i ask for toll free route it gives exactly what i asked for. It also shows me a summary of the time taken and distance for toll and toll free one in the summary screen to take decision. It has features even many highend gps doesn't have."

"So i bought this on black friday.it is a great item the only thing i wish it had was hands free calling for my phone. but its not that bad for the price. now ive been reading the reviews and some people dont like it and some people do. The first thing i did was check for updates on my system and there were updates for the satalite problem. ever since i downloaded that it works perfect. no problems.... so i recommend people to go to tomtom.com and download the software so you can update it"

"Bought 2 of these. First one refused to charge. Second one I only managed to get it to work once. Upon the return trip it kept telling me it had found 7 satellites but then would never update my location. I tried everything but it just kept seeing me as not having moved. Total piece of trash in my opinion."

"Great GPS. Lot's of preferences and easy to use. Works right out of the box. Some roads weren't showing up on the GPS but I'm hoping the map update off Tomtom's website that I'm downloading right now will fix that. Fast satellite aquisition, and fast rerouting. The bluetooth will only work with a select number of bluetooth phones. Check the website first to see if your phone is compatible before buying (if that's a feature you're buying for)."

"I would highly recommend this TomTom for anyone that is looking for an easy to use GPS, that is easy on the the wallet as well. I am very pleased, I have not had any issues with it at all. It even has current maps of where in live in a very rural part of West Virginia. I had to use it immediately, like a kid at christmas, so I opened the box before I even left the parking lot at Best buy, and when they say ready to use right out of the box they are not kidding. A child could use it. The Help Me feature and bluetooth are nice additions to this model vs. 3rd addition."

"I bought this as my first GPS ever. i was very excited to buy this one as the price was right. You got that right the price was right for a piece of junk!!!! I got it home it worked for about 4 hours untill the screen froze up and couldn't get a signal for about a half hour. It worked fine untill the next day. I took it in at night so the cold weather would wreck it overnight. I turned it on the next day. You guessed it the screen was frozen and no signal. I returned it back to where I bought it and traded it for a GARMIN NUVI 200. The Garmin is the same in size, but it has better features that the TOM TOM does not have and I paid about $20.00 more for something that works and doesn't freeze up. To everyone who is looking for a GPS for a good price I highly recomend to go with Garmin DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME BUYING A TOM TOM"

What's great about it: Unit and software are easy to use. Easy to read day or night What's not so great: Just like google maps not all newer roads are listed
"Picked it up on black friday and opened it up in the parking lot. With the easy setup I was running in less than 5 min. Display is nice and easy to read, touch screen works flawless, overall very impressed. There are some roads that are not listed but even the ups guy has to call for directions cause it's not listed elsewhere so cant really gripe about that. The only thing it goofs on sometimes are when your are in a area with multiple routes out. It wont always pick the most practical, but then again if your lost I guess just getting where you need to go is the main focus. It comes with options to correct errors that are translated back to tomtom when you connect to the internet so hopefully they use that info. Whatever people may say this thing works and for the price you cant go wrong. We all know a geo metro isn't going to perform like a corvette."

"I paid 3500 for an upgrade to my vehicle from my dealer for a GPS and this one has all of the tricks that one has with exclusion to the hands free phone technology. It is a great buy for the money and hope everyone can buy one.... GREAT BUY BEST BUY!!"

What's great about it: It is small What's not so great: POI's dont exsit, recalculations of route are bad, stores are not there
"You can use it out of the box but dont expect it to know where any store is, or most roads. You have to go home and down load new maps and new POIs. Then you still dont have most major brand name stores, even the one that this review is posted on. The first time i did a route recalculation the gps had me do two right hand turns and reverse track 8 miles back to the highway i was just on. So after following what we later named the unit UNCLE Earl for a mile on this recalculation i again tried to recalcuate the route and it took me in a better route that actually pointed me in the right direction. The unit then took us on a dirt road, Yes dirt, to our destionation. Then we used Uncle Earl for our first long trip and found out that since we updated the maps we could no longer use the iteniery portion of the gps. So i couldn't build my own route home. Then the idiot thing, I asked for the nearest gas station along the route at one point and I followed it to a Sunoco 4 miles away, but when I arrived at my destionation there was nothing but trees and a winding road thru the country, which there had never been a gas station. Thank god my daughter didnt need to go to bad. So in conclusion this unit is garbage."

What's great about it: Easy to use, lots of point of interest, low cost. What's not so great: Quality control.
"I picked this up on sale at Best Buy, within the first 24 hours, it locked up three times, no matter what you would do it wouldn't acquire a sat signal, therefore no directions or current position was available. I'm computer savvy, so I went to TomTom's website, which is absolutely no help, under this model's listing, it stated there were no available updates for software, being brand new, I would hope not. That wasn't the case, I hooked my TomTom up to my computer via the included USB cable, installed the software on to my computer contained within the TomTom, it ran a check and not only found the unit in the software was not up to date, but there was also a GPS fix that needed installing too. I downloaded and installed them myself, TomTom works as of now, hopefully this fixes the issues, since its a great unit and low cost. Its features and maps are great, along with the preloaded points of interest. It makes you wonder why you would need anything else and why there are other units for twice or three times the price. Very worth while investment. However, if it freezes up again, its going back and I will exchange it for a Garmin which I've never had an issue with. I would like to think this is an isolated case, but since its software patches, that means more than likely all are affected, poor quality control on the part of TomTom in my opinion. I could sort it out, but the normal consumer would have had a harder time. My recommendations are based on the unit and its features. The issues I have had were not considered, even though troublesome, once fixed, shouldn't affect its use, the point being they should have been fixed before they left the factory is the real concern."
