What's great about it: Good Sound
What's not so great: Break after 6 months

"These headphones sound great, but they have a major design flaw. The action of putting them on and taking them off will crack the frame in 6 months or less (if you use them every day like I do). I am on my 2nd pair and they just cracked in EXACTLY the same place. My head is not very wide either, so if you are older than say 15 and have to expand the adjustable frame at all, you will have this problem.

Skull Candy does replace them for free (you have to pay shipping to them), but it is an inconvenience that can be avoided by buying head phones that are better designed.

As much as I like the sound, I would not buy these again. I would probably buy SkullCandy again, just not this produce.

What's great about it: Good sound and nice looking
What's not so great: Durability is awful

"I bought these headphones because of their design and the cool sounding name, which I thought were great. However they only lasted a few months and the extending piece of plastic snapped when I went to put it on my head. I guess they're made for little girls who don't have big heads to wear these on as it was during the motion of putting it on my head where it broke. I liked these till that point, but I won't buy them again because I don't want to buy new headphones every few months. I bought a gaming headset while I had this pair, which were half the price and those still haven't snapped. Don't buy these unless you want to keep buying them a few times in a year."

What's great about it: Gives great bang for you buck
What's not so great: Durability is a joke; Pricely in terms of it's plastic material

"So far i've gone through two pairs of Skullcandy's headphones. The first were the "Lowriders", absolute joke to any headphones out there. Mainly manufactured out of plastic, so they dismantle easily, i had them for maybe 2 months then gave them the boot. Now i've had my pair of Hesh headphones for about a year now, excellent sound quality for any particular genre of music. Although the plastic extention is also a joke. I've had to duct tape these headphones twice, luckly they still function. Comfortabilty..I'd give it an OK. They can get a bit annoying to the ears if you wear them for a long period of time. value isn't too bad, but i'd suggest they use a different material for the extention overhead. So I'd only recommend these headphones if you want a good bang for your buck, just to be careful handling them."

What's great about it: Sound quality, and volume control on cord
What's not so great: Plastic overhead hoop is fragile and cracked quickly and broke completely too easily

"I enjoyed the sound quality but it was within a couple weeks the overhead hoop started to snap in small places. Overall the design is nice and comfy but the material was plastic and broke. The right ear broke completely off and they are now useless. Very dissappointed. I don't think I will be buying another pair especially since they are 50 bucks. Just overall an unpleasant product in terms of material quality."

What's great about it: Looks Good, Godlike Sound, Extension Cord, decently priced
What's not so great: Feels Cheap in Hands.

"Let get started here. I have owned countless pairs of headphones. I had the Bose earbuds, which lasted six months, produced 3.5 of 5 sound with 1 out of 5 reliability, used Phillips Surround Sound Earbuds, great overall, but didn't last 6 months either. Bought the Klipsch Image S4, didn't last 5 months, sound was tolerable. These were like seeing the light. Fifty bucks for headphones is a little much, but listen to me sounding cheap all of a sudden. Easy to get out of box with the right stress level, at first felt cheap in my hands, a little big on my head, but will be different for every user. I plugged them into my computer and started listening to metallica and my god, the sound was unbelievable for 50 bucks, compared to hundreds i've spent in the past. If you like using that muscle between your shoulders, buy these, you won't regret it, unless you're deaf."

What's great about it: Sound, Comfort, Style, and In-Line Volume Controls!
What's not so great: "extender cord" is weak... a year into the ownership of these and the extender cord is already broke!!!

"Well, I have been a loyal Skullcandy consumer, and this was my fourth set. I had always bought the ear buds from them and was very impressed with their preformance, so I was wanting something for just around the house and again i was impressed! About 10 months of ownership and the "extension cable" went out, the phones still work with out it, however it is very hard to really do anything on my iPhone without the cord, So I contacted Skullcandy directly and they replaced the cord!! Just waiting for it in the mail, so they will continue to have my business."

What's great about it: I'm not sure if I'd call anything "great"
What's not so great: Sound, in-line volume, cord

"I have to say I'm really disappointed with my Hesh headphones. I bought these to have an extra pair for my home listening. I listen to everything from soft indie to grindcore and everything in between, so I wanted heaphones with really rich, balanced, sound which is what I've always received from Skullcandy in the past. Not so much this time.

The sound quality of these $50 headphones is less than that of my $40 Asyms, and pretty on-par with a pair that cost half the price. It's hollow sounding, and not powerful by any means. Even with the in-line volume cranked up to the max, I still have to have my iPod's volume at more than 2/3, when I usually only have it at half-volume.

I found it kind of funny that the packaging bragged about an "extender cable" to make the cord longer, which I thought would be nice if I wanted to migrate more than a yard from my stereo, but in fact, this extra cord only JUST brings the cord to 4'. Without the extender, the idea of using these headphones at all is ridiculous.

Long story short, I've always been loyal to Skullcandy but after this waste of $50, I doubt I will be in the future. I'm not about to shell out that much cash for anything that's "just okay" which is exactly what these are. There's nothing drastically wrong with them, but being a bit of an audiophile, I can think of at least one reason for each dollarI spent to buy a better pair.

What's great about it: Good sound quality
What's not so great: Short cord, break easily

"I purchased these headphones since the cushioning on them did not hurt my ears. The sound quality is quite good, and even though they are not noise cancelling, they did manage to block sound to a decent degree. But, I have been VERY careful with these and they still snapped in two where the headphones adjust - since they are plastic they are done for, and I did not even have them for a year. I will spend more next time and get a more durable pair."

What's great about it: They sound incredible
What's not so great: CHEAP construction

"Its as if they're designed to sound so good you want a pair, but to break so you have to continually buy more. For $50 they could have a much sturdier frame.

Also, the cord they give you is just a bit too short, but I like that you can replace it. They should have included a 1/4 adapter but they didn't.

I will be ultra-careful yet they will break within six months as the cheap plastic is too rigid and too tight, forcing me to stretch them to fit. I wonder if the manufacturer even tried them on...

What's great about it: Sounds very good, cancels noise well
What's not so great: Hurts my ears, they're more on-ear than over-the-ear type

"These headphones are pretty good for noise cancellation and they do deliver pretty good sound. Their durability is questionable, I have had them for a week and I can tell they're going to break within the year. They really hurt my ears though, which is what I was trying to avoid by purchasing over-the-ear phones. I'm probably going to cut the pads a little bit, so if you have big-ish ears, you probably won't want to buy these."

What's great about it: Great Price, Excellent sound, Comfortable
What's not so great: worried about the durability besides that nothing

"After doing much research to find new headphones ($50-100 range), I came across these and they were an excellent deal and the best for the price range. I use headphones like these for snowboarding and used to have and expensive pair of Bose over the head phones but I broke them when I fell of a rail, Compared to the higher priced headphones these in my opinion are not much different, the sound quality is amazing with nice bass and they are very comfortable and they cancel out noise pretty well, only true difference in my opinion (if your not to much of an audio freak and analyze the sound of every headphone to a point) is that these may be less durable then the more expensive headphones and you must be careful not to throw them around, (they come with a nice travel pouch also) I strongly urge to purchase these, you get the most for your buck"

Great where it counts!   05/26/2009
By RedFox83 from Lewisville, TX

What's great about it: Sound Quality
What's not so great: Durability

"I was looking for some good headphones for a while and after reading the reviews for all Skullcandy products I decided to buy the Hesh model. I was amazed by the oomph of the bass and crystal clear tones. I like to listen to my music loud and I never had a problem with crunchy or fuzzy noises. After only about 5 months of everyday use the plastic adjustable parts started to crack and eventually broke. Also, if you have sensitive ears the pillows aren't very soft and your ears may get sore. Great for casual use but be careful because they are fragile."

Good, but not great.   05/25/2009
By ZackB from NJ

What's great about it: Sound Quality
What's not so great: Fragility, Look, Comfort over long periods.

"I've had these headphones for about 6 or 7 months, so I believe I can remain fairly objective here. I bought them at my local BestBuy, going with the brand after listening to my friend SkullCrushers (I believe) and being quite impressed. I was a bit turned off by the actual look of the product, as it seems to be styled for more of a "skater" or "urban" type look. For my taste, plain black would have been just fine.

When it comes to the audio quality, it does deliver on that front (although I cannot compare to other models of over-the-ear headphones). I made the transition to this product after dealing with the frustration of having to replace in-ear and on-ear headphones with breakages and/or mediocre sound quality. One downside is that these headphones do receive a bit of feedback when plugged into a computer and the such. Otherwise, the sound quality is good; delivering bass well. For my taste in Electro-Rock and Industrial music, quality heaphones are required to experience the full depth of the songs.

I will agree with other reviewers here that these headphones are not incredibly durable. I try to keep as good care of my headphones as possible, but in a school enviroment, dropping and torsion is inevitable. They remained in fair condition for the first 2 or 3 months, then I noticed the beggining of what looked like stress fractures between the grooves used for adjustment on the sides. I preemtively applied some black electrical tape and that worked well for the next two months. Recently, I've had to become more and more creative with my repairs as the old fixes fail (e.g. adding splints, using Super-Glue, etc.).

Let me also quickly mention that these headphones have a hard inner component that, for people with larger than average ears like me, will cause some pain after about an hour-and-a-half or so of continuous use.

I do plan on getting some new headphones soon to replace these (not of this model or brand), but whilst I've had these, they have done their job. A 7/10.

"I bought this pair of headphones around January, I really enjoy the sound quality and it really tunes other background noise out because of the way they fit your whole ear. the only drawback is they are made of plastic so be careful when taking on trips, mine haven't broke and there is nothing wrong with them yet."

Good sound, poor construction   05/06/2009
By minkk from Athens, GA

What's great about it: price for sound
What's not so great: construction, poor customer service

"Last summer, I bought a pair of these Skullcandy Hesh headphones. As far as headphones go, Hesh offers great sound quality and excellent bass.

However, about a month ago my pair broke. This is due to the fact that the Hesh pair are constructed mainly with plastic, so my left ear cup snapped off. This would have been a great pair of headphones if only Skullcandy took the time to better their material used in construction.

Also, when I tried contacting customer services, I got no response. I can't say I will buy any Skullcandy products in the future, anymore.

Not so sure...   04/28/2009
By TruthtellerJS from Wichita Falls

What's great about it: Warranty, Skullcandy name
What's not so great: Bad sound mix, uncomfortable

"OK, lets be honest here. Most of the reviews for these headphones are from people that bought these because of how they look. That may be okay for some, but I am more interested at how they sound. I have owned many different pairs of headphones that Best Buy offers, ranging in price from $15- $150. Out of these, my favorite pair so far is the skullcandy ink'd. When I was in need of some over-the-ear headphones, skullcandy was a name I knew and trusted. So I thought I would give these a shot.
When I tried them out, they were less than stellar. Whether listening to my Ipod or using them as a monitoring system as I was playing drums, I heard a very muddy and unappealing mix. Even tweaking the equalizer couldn't fix the deep-routed sound issues these headphones put out. The bass was loud and overwhelming, while at the same time being completely unclear. Compared to my other headphones, these were very quiet. You really have to crank these up just to hear every part of the music. My recommendation: don't get these unless you are not picky whatsoever about sound quality. Otherwise, find yourself another set of headphones!
