Solid product01/03/2008

What's great about it: Easy to use, Great picture quality, price What's not so great: Short USB chord (obviously a very minor issue), awkward menus
"This frame was given as a gift to my mother in law. It was extremely easy to load pictures. The frame was up and running in 10 minutes. The features and picture quality are unmatched at this pricepoint. Based on my experience with the product, I would highly recommend this frame."

Virus Warning01/01/2008
By DesignerTechiefrom LI, NY
What's great about it: To early to tell What's not so great: To early to tell
"Just a warning to others that the virus comments here are true. I wouldn't think them to be true but they are. I received this item as a gift and came to site to read reviews. Sure enough, I connected frame to computer, scanned drive, and two viruses were found. win32/perlouga.a.
As for using the frame, I have not tried it yet. Still scanning my entire computer now as I had a corrupt file warning after viruses were found on frame.
I will write back after testing frame. I will also call Insigna and Best Buy to complain."

WOW! I really love this frame!12/27/2007
By TheresaKfrom Michigan
What's great about it: interchangeable frames, remote control, multiple memory slots, very nice display What's not so great: Haven't run across any.
"I haven't had any of the problems other posters have reported, but I don't mess with additional software on my computer. I loaded the pics I wanted to display onto a memory card through a card reader, popped it in and turned it on. It was a piece of cake! I also think it would make a good gift for a non-techie, provided that you put the images on the card for them.
The display colors are beautiful and vibrant, I love the larger size frame and the 4:3 ratio, which suits my camera size so I don't have my images distorted of clipped. SInce it is a big frame, even the vertically shot images display nicely."

I love this frame!!12/27/2007
By Bulldog49from Hudson Valley
What's great about it: great color, no picture distortion, easy use, sturdy What's not so great: must use remote to control frame and change settings
"I got it for xmas and absolutely love it! The pictures look beautiful, no distortion, great color, able to choose how you want to switch from one pic to the next...etc. I found the frame to be sturdy, and the stand needed to be set into place and that was simple enough. The only glitch I had was during the initial set up, I got stuck on Chinese, so everything was written in Chinese...HINT: use the remote control to change settings and to set up (it was an easy fix, took me only 5mins to figure out). As far as the computer viruses are concerned I am going to do my best not to hook it up to the computer, thanks for the warning. If you like the larger frames, I really suggest you get this one, I would buy it again!"

What's great about it: size, interchangeable frame, price What's not so great: plastic piece of ****
"This frame was purchased as a xmas gift for my mother....Nothing simple about this product except the construction. Manual was very vague, gave no troubleshooting tips...which it needed. Wouldnt recognize my pc, camera card, or flash drive. Very dissapointed......Do not BUY this mess! Its going back, and will probably go with a "Name Brand"....Theyre were no reviews when I purchased this, and Im sure you'll see more!"

Nice Frame12/26/2007
By Momof3inMIfrom Downriver, Michigan
What's great about it: Easy to Use; Interchangeable frames What's not so great: Flimsy Stand; No option for random shuffle
"My husband gave this frame to me for Christmas. The quality is good, and I had no problem loading pictures to the frame. I was also able to easily add music to play together with my pictures. My biggest disappointment happened when I opened the frame - the stand was broken. My husband was able to fix this, but I would expect much better quality & craftsmanship from an item that costs as much as it does. All in all, not bad."

"I got this for a Christmas gift and I absolutely love it. It is easy to use, pictures are clear and beautiful. I set my frame the same day I got it. I would recommend this frame despite the previous reviews. I was so excited to see my pictures flash across the screen. Great value for money."

Dissapointed12/26/2007
By BenL
What's great about it: Pictures look decent. What's not so great: Awkward interface, malicous software.
"I was initially happy to receive this frame for as a christmas gift. That excitement dissapeared quickly as I was downloading Anti-Virus software to remove the virus that was contained on the picture frame. Anti-Virus confirmed there were four files on the device which were worm/trojan related. Along with an autorun.inf to execute them. RavMon.exe: Trojan.Agent-1914 FOUND copy.exe: Trojan.Small-4214 FOUND host.exe: Trojan.Dropper-829 FOUND tel.xls.exe: Worm.Runouce.b FOUND These files were flagged as "hidden system files" and would normally not be viewable on the filesystem of the frame. This wasn't just my product either. My sister-in-law received one as well and I removed the same infected files from hers (thankfully before she used it.) Very dissapointing to receive a product from a retailer that has malicious software on it. Aside from the virus issue, the unit does feel very clunky to use. The copy function to copy photos from your media to the internal memory is awkward. The frame requires a reboot after you hook it up to a PC, which the remote can't do, you have to physically power cycle the unit. The only positive I have is that photos do actually look pretty good on it."

What's great about it: Frame size, Pic quality, Ease of Use What's not so great: No shuffle play, manual not very helpful
"I purchased 2 of these frames, I like the ease of use, picture quality & adaptability to a variety of media sources. We do all our picture editing on our laptops so the resizing was not an issue for us. I wish it had shuffle play and the manual is as useless as most Motorola wireless phone manuals but then you can figure stuff out pretty easily using the remote."

Very Poor12/25/2007
By Picturemanfrom MI
What's great about it: Frame looks good in the store What's not so great: Nothing works correctly
"Strait out of the box the stand fell apart, I then loaded pictures to the frame and was unable to play the pictures or the music no matter what I did. I then used my SD card to get the same, ( very frustrating ) When I returned the unit to the store I was told many of these are being returned for the same problem. My fault, Should have checked the reviews before purchasing."

Not a replacement for a picture frame.12/25/2007
By Zylverefrom Ohio
What's great about it: Comes with two frames to match the colors of wood, multiple media accepted (SD, CF, PC-USB, etc) What's not so great: Everything else.
"The first thing I noticed about this product, even before I set it up was it's extremely poor construction. After that, I set it up and I got out the remote control. I toyed around with it for a few minutes, trying to find some pictures, which in the end, I did not, despite the fact that I had just taken the memory card out of my camara and put it into the device. So then I hooked it up to my computer with the 12 inch USB cable. It immediately detected four different removable drives. I imagine these were for different types of media (USB, SD, CF, etc). Before I even copied my photos to the device, my anti-virus software recognized the only two executables on the device as viruses.
The run down: Picture quality is okay if you are looking straight on and from a distance, but walk a away a few feet or have it sitting on a desk at an angle (how else could you have it?) and the image is distorted. It has additional features as well, like a calender. This is rather broken feature which could only be described as "unfinished". The letters are jagged and rigid and the 256-color blue-scale background is in complete contrast to the seemingly elegant wooden frame. There is no software for syncing your Outlook or any other calander to the frame, and who knows how you set a current date. I confess that I didn't investigate such features such as video (which I'm sure, based on all the other features, is very limited) or music.
For a multimedia picture frame, be sure to buy something that is neither LCD nor Insignia."

Very Disappointing Product12/22/2007
By Blondie1from Tampa
What's great about it: None What's not so great: Not User Friendly, Directions unclear, Unable to perform functions
"Bought one and could not get anything to work. Would not even connect to PC. Called the help line for Tech Support and was told it did not work and to exchange it for a new one where I bought it. Went back and obtained a new one. When I tried to use it I had the same problems. This is a very bad product. It would not do anything. Could not load pictures or understand from the manual what to do. No help with trouble shooting problems. Since this was a Christmas present we returned this horrible product and bought a Kodak Easy Share frame. It worked wonderfully. Do not buy this product. You will be very disappointed."

Won't do random slideshows!!!12/20/2007
By ToLazyToPickANamefrom Upstate NY
What's great about it: Big screen, multiple frame styles included, nice remote What's not so great: Very poor GUI, won't do random slideshow, some features only accessible w/remote
"This frame is comparable to others in its price range in terms of size and memory. Picture quality was ok, not great. Menu system is very poor, older non-tech people will be lost almost immediately. I'm very tech savy and I still got it stuck in Chinese language almost immediately. Turns out you MUST use the four-way buttons on the remote to navigate the menus, the two LEFT & RIGHT buttons on the unit itself won't work for this. In fact they will inadvertently select the wrong things (how I got Chinese). Very bad, frustrating design!
But the deal breaker for me was that this frame WILL NOT DO RANDOM SHUFFLE SLIDESHOWS! Some people might not be bothered by that, but I got this for my mom to turn on and just let it play continuously. and it makes absolutely no sense to me to have it ALWAYS play the pictures in the exact same order. Forever! You turn it off & on, it starts right back at the beginning again! Ridiculous!
Yes, you can use the remote to manually sift thru them, but these are supposed to be passive devices. Random play is essential!"

Techy Guffaw12/20/2007
By RESinTNfrom Tennessee
What's great about it: Nice picture. Great size. Views pics, vids, & text. Play music. What's not so great: Loading is awful.
"Bought this as a Christmas present for parents. I tried two load methods: 1. USB key - You have to individually select every picture you want to copy (you can't select "all" or copy an entire directory off the USB drive). When you've got 200 or more pictures this is just not practical. First time I actually went through this exercise the copy failed. Next time I tried the frame wouldn't let me select files to copy though I removed & replaced the USB key, turned it off, etc. 2. Connect to computer. When the USB method failed I plugged the frame into my computer. It immediately showed about 4 different drives on the frame then my virus software (Norton) detected a Trojan the frame tried to load onto my computer. I could only copy to one drive letter (the computer said the others didn't exist). Apparently(?) each drive is for different media types (photos; vids; music; etc) but the directions don't tell you which one is for what. Despite all this, once I finally got pics on the frame the pics were good. The remote control was fairly easy to explain to my father but he'll never use most of the buttons. I also finally got both photos & vids on the frame and they would play if you pressed "photo" or "video" but not when you pressed "combo" (it said the drive was empty). Go figure. This should have been a no brainer but Insignia really goofed. The only solution I see is to simply use a USB key or other memory source and set the configuration to play off that (of course, what good is all that memory for you just paid for inside the frame?)."

Okay item12/20/2007
By Smartyfanfrom New Jersey
What's great about it: Easy to use, pix are great What's not so great: flimsy stand
"This is a great item for the money. Easy to download pix. Make sure you have your pix ready as you want to see them before you download (rotations, clarity, etc.). You cannot edit them after they are downloaded. On the downside, be careful of the frame stand. It is a cheap plastic extending arm stand. I originally had the 8" frame and the arm snapped right off. Since Best Buy does not carry the 8" anymore, I had to purchase this one for $30.00 more. I am hoping this stand holds up."

"Just bought this for family members that are not techincally saavy and it's not easy to use!! It has a remote which is nice but you are not able to save rotated pictures. So if you want to rotate a picture you will have to do that everytime the picture is viewed. Very disappointed and am returning this tomorrow."

What's great about it: Large display screen, support for video What's not so great: 640x480
"I purchased this frame and a 2gig SD memory card for my elderly father as a Christmas gift. I've found it to be very simple to use. It was immediately compatible with the video shot with my Canon SD900 (640x480). I resized photos from 10mega pixels down to 640x480 to save space. I like this frame so much in fact, I'm going down today to pick-up another two for my home and office. As long as you're not looking for a higher resolution, this frame is worth the money."

Good Choice for Parents11/24/2007
By Packfrom Cincinnati, OH
What's great about it: Remote Control, 256MB memory, memory chip reader, two wood frames, cherry frame, size What's not so great: not coming up with anything
"I was looking for a Holiday present for my mom and dad and one thing I know they could always use are memories. So I asked each of the 5 kids in the family to submit 100 digital photos so I can compile them onto a single extra 2GB memory chip (available nowadays for as little as $14) and then send it off as our combined families gift. This unit has good size for viewing but not so large to be a shelf hog. The cherry frame will probably be preferred over the black wood frame, but they will have the choice. It comes with a remote control, which I hope will make it easier for an aging parent to operate. If you want you can also store the AVI "movies" from your digital camera, and mp3 tracks. In the future if we want to update the photos all we have to do is mail off another memory chip to them to put in and the present is new again!"

Not 800x60011/21/2007
By dkay
What's great about it: nice frame and size What's not so great: not 800x600 as listed
"I purchased three of these frames for Christmas presents off of the website. They were listed as 800x600; however, when they arrived the packaging shows that they are only 640x480.
I contacted Best Buy to change the incorrect information on the website.
Overall they are nice frames I've kept all three of them since they seem very strudy and allows for a larger viewing area. If you want 800x600 then you will need to try another product."
