A Little Common Sense02/13/2008

"I've had my 360 since launch, and I'm only on my second unit. I've never had the "red ring of death", but my first one quit reading discs properly (replaced for free). The ring of death is caused mainly by overheating, mostly by people lacking the common sense to make sure the placement of the console is properly ventilated. Anyone with any experience with high-end stereo equipment know this rule well. Put it in a place with continuous cross-ventilation (from one side to the next) and you'll have no problems. If you squeeze this thing into a VCR shelf on a standard entertainment cabinet with a closed back, it will get too hot. Use your head. As for the disc-read errors, I had them frequently with my PS2 as well, so it's hardly a Microsoft exclusive problem. As I understand it, it's caused by mis-alignment of the laser over time, causing the laser to be too far/near the disc to read properly, and is common in disc-reading devices. As for the games, they don't get much better anywhere, and the online community is great. Microsoft has updated XBox Live several times, adding new features and options for the console fairly regularly. The downloadable content for games is awesome, and the interface is great once you get used to it. The HD-DVD add-on is well worth it, and it's unfortunate that the format may not be long for this world. I agree with other reviewers that wi-fi should be included in future models. I have been very pleased with this purchase, and even my wife enjoys playing games on this system."

"I wanted an hd/dvd player so I decided to buy the xbox system and the hd/dvd player with it. I love it! The picture quality is great. The games I have played so far are a lot of fun. For anyone looking at hd I suggest looking at going this route because you can have all the quality of hd movies plus the fun of the gaming system as well."

"I bought my 360 in January of 2007. I love it! I play it all the time. If you buy a xbox 360 make sure you subscribe to xbox live. There is a lot of downloadable content. From movies to tv shows to xbox classic games and arcade games. The fun really never ends. Im only disappointed because my 360 model doesn't have the hdmi hookup."

What's great about it: Great Graphics. Wireless controllers are very convinient. Fast loading. Great controls. Very suficticated What's not so great: Rings of Death. Sometimes Xbox fails to read certain game CD's if played to much.
"Great system. Has alot of attributes that were first seen on a console. It beats out PS3 anyday. Great from the price. You need to get an HDTV for this system if you want it to look even more amazing. This is a great complimentary good for HDTV's."

"I had my 360 for a little over a year, and loved it. Then one day, it started locking up and then just quit working. The next day it worked fine and lasted another week. Finally the Red lights began flashing. If you are fortunate enough to get one that lasts it is a great investment. There are a lot of games, and the graphics for most games are amazing. I would recommend buying a replacement plan along with the 360. It is a good product but I wish it didn't have the issue of dying, it just seems all too common. definitely worth a shot if you take the proper precautions."

With it's release, it set the standard for all other next-gen game platforms. Backed up with games such as Halo 3, Rainbow Six Vegas, Call of Duty 4, Assassin's Creed and Project Gotham Racing 3 & 4, the 360 is the ultimate gaming system. The Xbox Live Marketplace, the above mentioned online store, has downloadable movies, TV shows, arcade games, and additional maps and weapons for your favorite game. The only negative thing I have to say is it cannot surf the internet like the PS3 and Nintendo Wii, but it makes up for it with unbeatable gameplay and amazing detail. "I simply love this machine. In my opinion, the xbox 360 has the best online interactive setup of all the systems available today. The graphics are amazing, and with the HD DVD player add-on, watching HD movies on my 42" Sony DLP HDTV rocks! So far I haven't had any cooling issues with my system. I think most the systems that have had problems were due to neglect, such as leaving the system on all the time or having it sit in a closed off space with limited airflow and/or where dust may collect on the internal components. Overall this gaming system is rad and I would recommend it to all my friends!"

What's great about it: EVERYTHING! All the games are awesome, the best graphics in gaming known to man, and good for couples/families! What's not so great: NONE!!! Except for a few RRoD cases, it's just plain good.

"Interface isnt as good as ps3's but i have to admit it does haves some games that ps3 doesnt offer. Its cheaper off the bt, but addons will cost you, ie: $180 hd dvd player, $100 wireless card. Overall a good system but make sure you buy an extended warranty, ive already had problems after only 2 months with both te hd dvd player and the console. This one comes with HDMI wich is a necessity nowdays."

"In my personal opinion Xbox is the best of the three systems right now. There is some debate on which is best but remember is system is all about the games and xbox has the best selection. Wii is fun only if you are playing with a bunch of friends. PS3 is a gadget geeks dream but all their best games are out on at least xbox if not all three. Xbox has great games that have great online play. Not just that but I'm able to talk to family members and friends that are signed on, on some games there is a co-op feature for campaigns so you can play that part of the game to with your body across the country. If you are on the fence go with xbox."

What's great about it: Games, xbox live What's not so great: red ring of death
"I have had my 360 for 2 years now and feel that I can write a review based on experience with the system. The games and graphics are excellent! Xbox live is an awesome feature too. I did experience the "red ring of death" and honestly that was no fun but my 360 was still under warranty so they fixed it for free (including ALL shipping costs) and gave me a gold xbox live membership. They also extended the warranty just in case the problem reaccurred... It never did. Overall this system has provided hours upon hours of gaming enjoyment. I play the PS3 and the Wii also and they are cool but the 360 is my favorite."
