Free 30Days XBOX GOLD??????12/26/2007
By Peopleneedtoknowfrom Alabama
What's great about it: Great games, HD output What's not so great: VERY HIGH FAILURE Rate of Hardware
"One thing you should know when You buy the XBOX 360 that says free 30 days of GOLD XBOX Live is they do everything to make you pay for it.
They do not tell you anywhere in the box how to get the freee 30 day GOLD XBOX LIVE. The only way you can get it is to go thru subscribing and choose the SIlver then they will offer you a gold for 30 days free.
Of course most folks will go ahead and pay anyway after looking thru everything that came with it... Reading for an hour then going ahead and paying.
I found this out by e-mailing and asking where mine wasy.
Knowledge is power. One other bit you can get 3 total 30 day golds subscriptions per XBOX360 if you choose not to pay. SO now you know. Read e-mail below
Thank you for writing Xbox Customer Support!
I understand that you have some concerns regarding your 30-day Xbox Live trial Gold membership that comes with every Xbox 360 console.
The 30-day Gold trial membership provides temporary access to the features of a Gold membership. This includes online multiplayer gaming.
When you set up an Xbox 360 console, you follow an account creation sign-up process. This lets you access Xbox Live Silver membership features, assuming that you have a broadband connection. At the end of the account creation process, you can upgrade to a Gold membership. If you do not upgrade, you receive a free 30-day Gold trial anyway. The 30-day Gold trial is associated with a single gamertag and cannot be added to an existing subscription. There are a total of three 30-day trial accounts per console. After a user has created three trial accounts, the user no longer receives a message that provides the opportuni ty to create a 30-day gold trial account.
By default, the Gold trial does not automatically renew to a paying subscription. Instead, the account automatically converts to a Silver membership at the end of the trial period. If users want to continue with the Gold membership, they can select the subscription length and the payment type that they want on the Account Management screen.

Great gaming system12/26/2007
By roth2010from Chicago, IL
What's great about it: Awesome games, graphics, and fun online What's not so great: Breaks down a lot
"I think that the xbox 360 is by far the best gaming system when it works. The online experience is incredible and all of the games are fun. It also has some essential games like halo and gears of war that the ps3 doesn't have. I would recommend getting an xbox 360 but if you do make sure that you get the warrenty with it so if it breaks you can just return it to the store and get a new one. If you don't get the warrenty then microsoft will fix it for free but it takes about 8 buisness weeks and that is just too long."

Worst System Ever12/25/2007
By narwal
What's great about it: Cheap...kind of What's not so great: Slow, Outdated, in general, not good
"As an owner of all three next gen systems, I can honestly say that this xbox 360 is the worst out of the three. For the price, it doesn't offer much. The only plus this system has going for it is Halo 3. In terms of online play, why pay for online when the Ps3 gives it to you for free? Yes, the 360 may have more features, but the playstation network is almost as good. Everything, including updates and downloads, is free. Additionally, this 360 is almost as expensive as the ps3, but the graphics are no where near as good. Ultimately, this is probably the biggest waste of money in terms of gaming. If you really want the xbox 360, go for the Elite. However, I would highly recommend the Ps3. It will save you hundreds of dollars in the long run."

Good but not great as the fan boys make it to be.12/23/2007
By Rs232from Chicago, IL
What's great about it: Graphics, sounds, online, game quantity What's not so great: Reliability, price, not user upgradable as far as the hard drive.
"I own a Xbox 360 Pro, a Nintendo Wii, and recently a 80 GB Motorstorm pack Playstation 3.
First off, I bought both, and I paid WAY more for my Xbox 360 compared to my PS3, and I got much more with my PS3.
Lots of fanboys claim the Xbox 360 is cheaper, it is sort of unless you count the Xbox 360 Elite, and you would still have to buy tons of add ons to make your Xbox 360 compete with a PS3 feature wise. The HD External drive by itself is nearly $200.00 and you have to still make room for it, like in my busy but well ventilated TV stand.
You can get a Playstation 3 for this much or the decked out one like I have, with a game for slightly more, and still be able to do more with it.
That makes it more expensive than my 80 GB Playstation 3, which has bluetooth, built in HD DVD (Blu Ray), FREE Internet Network, and much more, including the ability to run Linux, which a Xbox 360 simply cannot do. And, mine came with a great game, Motorstorm. Xbox comes with 2 old games that are not even good ones, Forza and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Plus, all Playstation 3's come with WIFI Internet built in. I spent $100.00 to make mine wireless!
Xbox 360 is definitely a nice system, when it works! I am on my second one now as my first one had the "3 red ring of death" problem. I was playing Oblivion, and all of a sudden my game freezes when I am fighting someone in the game, and I go to turn it back on and I see 3 red rings around the console power button: Means hardware failure. This is a very common problem, and you better hope yours is under warranty to be able to get a replacement. Mine took 2 weeks to get back to me. How common of a problem is this? VERY Common. Microsoft has spent over $2 Billion dollars just in replacing the bricked systems so that should tell you something! I keep mine in a nice cool place, take the dust out of it every month, and mine still failed after a month of use.
Graphics are incredible, either slightly beating (on older titles mainly), equaling, or being slightly inferior to newer Playstation 3 games. Playstation 3 is really starting to look much better, I have Oblivion for both and it runs smoother, looks much better, more details, and there is no screen draw issues on the Playstation 3.
Sound is awesome as well, about equal to Playstation 3 to the point where you really can't tell much of a difference.
I do not like the controller as much as PS3's, though it does seem to work better for driving games . That's personal taste for you.
Playstation 3 is better if:
You want reliability
More out of box (get more for your money)
You don't mind paying slightly more up-front
You want to have more than just a game system
You want Bluray movie support built right in
You like Sony better than MS
You are willing to give it a chance to mature like it is more and more
You want free Internet and Online gaming
Xbox 360 is better if:
You want JUST a gaming machine with a built in DVD player
You don't mind spending big bucks to make your machine have more ability
You don't mind returning your system and being without it for 2 weeks if it bricks itself.
You are a Halo fan
You like Microsoft better than Sony
You want to play online games, and you don't mind paying for it
You want to have a larger library of games thanks to a one year head start.
I have had my Xbox 360 for almost 6 months, and have a lot of games for it, but I have barely played mine since I purchased my Playstation 3. Plus, I love watching movies on my HD TV which I can use my Blu Ray player to do so. I have the HD DVD upgrade for my Xbox 360, but it is a pain to try and fit it with everything else, with cooling in mind."

Get this over arcade package12/21/2007
By gbrdfrom Massachusetts
What's great about it: comes with 2 games, and better memory space What's not so great: none
"This purchase is definatly a steal over the arcade package. The arcade package is $279. But for only 70$ more, you can get 2 games, and basically 20 extra gigs of hard drive space. And this hard drive space is neccasary for xbox live play. If you think "well ill just pay the 270 and then if I want to play xbox live down the road I'll get the hard drive. But that is a rip off, because if you get this package now, you get 2 games, and a better system. Because the arcade package cannot play regular xbox games either. And these 2 games are valued at 90$. You can't play xbox live with the Basic 256mb arcade system unless you go out and spend money."

Xbox360 is better than PS312/20/2007
By beaversandducksfrom MI
What's great about it: Alot more games than PS3 and a better system
"I previously had a 360 bought when they first came out and it overheated, Microsoft sent a new system. But supposedly they fixed the issue by changing the processor and extended the warranty on the new systems. Xbox 360 has more games than PS3 and more exclusive shooters my votes for Xbox."

Good system with minor flaws12/20/2007
By Steamgolem
What's great about it: online support, tech support is solid for this system. What's not so great: xbox live is good, but costs money for the xbox live gold
"Ive had this system for about a month. it is a solid system that i enjoy. the system can run for hours with very little stuttering, the only time i ran into slow downs is with marathon sessions of mass effect. thats only due to how big mass effect is. i played the single player version of halo three for an extended period and saw no slow downs on the system. while the online experiance is good, little to no lag if you have a good connection ((dial up is not recommended)), i did not care for the fact that i had to pay a subscription fee to play online, the wii and ps3 do not have fees. though thats my only gripe with the system.
i have the premium system, at first the controlls were hard to understand, noted this is my first system ive had since the ps1 ((been mostly useing the pc for games)). After awhile though i found them easier to grasp. the controller is smaller then the original xbox controller and feels comfortable for long periods of gameing. the system was easy to set up out of the box, but useing the analog sticks and buttons to type in information is annoying, though microsoft has a keyboard like thing to solve this.
all in all the console is a solid one. ive had no major or moderate issues, the only ones being are lag, and slight game freezes with mass effect, but thats after more then 8 hours of solid play. and a restart of the system always works. the cons are few, and thats xbox live gold. if you just want to play single player games then this console is for you. if you want multi player, your going to have to pay a subscription for the full effect of live.
noted this system is not fully backwards compatiable with the older xbox, but thats a small point seeing as the xbox was newer then the ps2 and gamecube. though while sony and the wii both have games that date back a long ways that should not stop you from getting this system, there are plenty of games for the xbox.
on a side note, i had subscribed to xbox live gold, and then unsubscribed, the people at billing were helpfull and prompt, i also dealt with tech support about the internet, which turned out to be my modem not the system. both times microsoft was helpfull and freindly, i have not dealt with the other systems support, but i must say Microsoft has always been helpfull with customers that have problems. keep that in mind when you get the system. though id rate the single player and tech support a 5, the fact that xbox gold costs money each month lowers that scord to a 4."

Excellent Gaming System12/19/2007
By TheSpartan117
What's great about it: Awesome mulitplayer and online, which is why i bought it What's not so great: Not perfect graphics, but that's not why i bought it. I bought the 20GB which is next to nothing of memory
"Overall a good and impresive system. The greatest feature, easy lan parties and online multiplayer on an established network, xbox live. However, drawback is that many games, Gears of War, Call of Duty series, are ver limited on lan parties. They only allow one person per box. Even the 4 player co op that Halo 3 boasts only allows two per box. So much detail is being put into the environment and shading that you can't get a group together for a frag fest. I guess that's the trade off. Sadly mine had red rings the day i bought it and took it out of the package. Turns out the hard drive was defective, exchaned the next day and good as new. I like the dashboard concept but rarely use it, though i just bought a new Vista laptop, also from best buy, so i'm looking into getting them hooked up and really seeing what media center can do. THis system does what i want, multiplayer fun. I chose this over the PS3 as the PS3 is so expensive that i really don't care about graphics at this point. The wii can be fun, but its multiplayer capabilities for lan parties is just not feasable. Downside of all these systems, accessories cost too much. Not just dorky add ons, but the 360 wireless controller does not come with a rechargeable battery. You have to buy the controller and rechargeable batteries separate. Oh, and if you do, buy the play and charge kit, as that's the only way to charge the battery, not sure why they're sold separately. The wii has the same issue, and many games are doing the following, proprietary individual controllers. Guitar hero needs its own special controller, wii games need their own for each, ace combat 6 for the 360 has an optional $80 controller. Just for basic 360 use, $59 dollar wireless controller and the 20 dollar play and charge kit, oh and you'll need a second play and charge so 20 more. That's an extra $99 to just have a second player, keep these things in mind when planning your purchase, and by all means, any big purchase like any of these systems should have a product replacement plan purchased. Not worth the headache if something breaks and your warranty is expired. Overall i'm happy with this system and enjoy using it often. Oh, DON'T buy the nyko rechargeable battery, you'll just have to return it as i've yet to find one that actually works."

"There are many things you'll read about the 360 while researching which console to buy. After a year and a half of hands on the 360 has run almost flawlessly for me minus a few game freezes that you'll encounter on any system. Where it's at is the games, and there are plenty. Alot of fun is to be had with this console, and I honestly own all 3 next generation consoles, but the 360 garners around %90 of my attention. Onl-line gaming is very important to most 360 owners, but you can game some, and then break for as long as you want and come back to them. For most games the install base is large enough now that there will almost always be someone to play on-line with. Howevery, story still plays a big part in single player, and there are some moving stories to interact with on this console. The premium console is a steal at this price point, and the 360 is so much more than a video game console. It's a full fledged media center. Pull pictures from your PC, plug in your iPod via USB, download reasonably priced TV shows and much more in this package. You'll find an ever growing collection of XBOX Live Arcade games to complement high definition movie rentals if you'd prefer. Microsoft understood that sometimes you need a break from gaming. Along with all the other features I've listed if you have a high definition set-up, you'll find the most reasonably priced high definition movie player on the market. I 5-Star recommend the HD-DVD player to go along with your XBOX 360. The system offers 1080p gaming and movie viewing, has a built in scaler to upscale your DVD collection and can connect to the internet straight out of the box with the network cable included in the box. Some people say that sound isn't the strongest feature, but for %95 of the people that utilize 5.1 at the most, this consoles media boasts some gripping audio and firmware updates add more and more features everyday such as DTS (Digital Theater Surround) support. The console is ever changing because of firmware updates, and I've always found it to be for the better. So in a nutshell, the 360 offers everything a gamer or techhead could and with each game that comes out (AAA or not), I'm finding this system becoming more and more the best gaming system I've owned in 25 years of gaming. Maybe I'm just addicted to achievements, but I'd like to think that I'm just addicted to fun.""

By chubs87from St. Louis, MO
What's great about it: Media center, games, fast, wireless What's not so great: loud, overheating, HD DVD not included, online costs $
"This is one of the best game systems ever made too date! although PS3 is starting too really compete with xbox 360 with price-components, I still chose my xbox 360 everyday!
I got the HD-DVD add on, which I think is a must have! with the addition too having the HDMI on the new models of the 360, the system is blowing others away! Extremely fast and has awesome games available, including the best game in the world, halo 3!
the online, xbox live, is amazing! Even though you have too pay for it, its still awesome!
this is a must have for a true gamer and an awesome present for X-mas!"

"For everyone who says "breaks too easy" and things like that. I highly disagree. The Xbox 360 is an amazing game system. You have a ton of games to choose from, which all have amazing graphics. So if you really think the PS3 is better than the Xbox 360 I think you should over think it. Well hope this has helped you. :) P.S. In the picture there is a Xbox 360 and a Wii."

"i had an xbox for about a month, everything was fine...then i got the red ring of death. returned it and got another one, ok no problem right?? no i had to go through 3 more before just deciding to get the ps3. the only thing the xbox has over the ps3 is online gameplay, but graphics on xbox are not even close to that of the ps3. if u dont know hat to buy and u need a game console, get the ps3!!! a little more $$$ but way better quality."
