Take it everywhere!!!   04/29/2008
By WillMommySC from South Carolina

What's great about it: Tons of memory!
What's not so great: None!

"This is my favorite gadget, even surpassing my cell phone. It goes with me everywhere. I have all my music on it, I keep no CD's in my car anymore. I have pictures on it, movies, TV shows, and games. When I'm waiting to pick my son up from school, I catch up on Desperate Housewives, the screen quality is incredible. I bought some software for just $25 that lets me convert DVD's to iPod format so I can put them on my iPod. I have TONS of stuff on this and I still have 70 GB's of space left. Buy it, you'll love it!!! I'm getting my son one for his 10th birtday in June."

It beats a Zune   09/08/2008
By Reaper1990

What's great about it: high music storage capacity; support for podcasts; support for most common formats
What's not so great: occaisonal crunching noise from hard drive; battery drains quicker than advertised, but is still adequate

"i bought this as an open box item, which may explain the battery problem, it drains in about 10-15 hours for me. the UI is a little slow, sometimes the click wheel won't work until you release the scroll function. overall though, it does beat a zune in my experience with two 30 gigs, and i am a huge fan of iTunes and its selection. a wonderful buy for anyone wanting a high-capacity media player, but make sure you get a case because the back scratches easily."

What's great about it: looks cool, has a lot of room for songs, videos
What's not so great: gets scratched easily, big

"A great music player with a lot of room for songs, videos, photos and games. The only thing I don't like about it is the size. For me, it feels like I am carrying around a brick because it doesn't fit into my pocket."

You'll never have to get another iPod   08/29/2008
By gnarlynicole from a boring town in new york

What's great about it: Easy to use, holds a lot of music, fun, iQuiz, iTunes
What's not so great: Scratches VERY easisly

"My aunt got this for me about 3 weeks ago, And I love it. You can put music, photos, games, movies, and just about anything on it. But after a week or two, the back got really scratched, and I take very good care of my stuff. I recomend that if/when you buy an iPod, make sure you get a case for it, and take good care of it. Get an iPod, they are great!"

Far ahead of my expectations....   08/04/2008
By kickoff from SF

"Well, Ive had my ipod with me for a lil more than 10 months now and hence Ive got a real good idea abt what its worth compared with its competitors like the Microsoft Zune or the Creative Zen Vision:M. This is the 80Gb Video 5.5th Generation model Im talking about. There is a difference between this one and the 6th Gen or the Ipod classic, model wise as well as with the firmware and stuff. Now, lets put it this way, You’ve always wanted an Ipod havent you? Everytime you walked passed the apple store or some electronics shop, you’ve wondered how it would be to have the player thats taking over the world by storm! Well, yes, i too fell for the same spell and ignored other better players such as the creatives and bought it. But trust me, what you lose out by buying an ipod rather than a Zen, turns out to be nothing once you start using your ipod. The Ipod 80Gb and the Zen Vision 30Gb are similarly priced. The Ipod has a 65k colour screen while the Zen has a 256k colour screen(although the sleek looks of the ipod makes it better), the zen has a radio while the ipod doesnt and a few more minor disses here and there. Ok, well, once u get used 2 the ipod interface, seriously, u dont wanna change or shift to any other player. The OS and UI makers it feel so natural and so right. The way the transition of menus take place from one page to another is extremely smooth and so perfect.
Now, some cons of the system:
It doesnt have a radio like I’ve said earlier. Then one day u take it to ur friends house coz he\she needed some music. Ahh, there come across a major problem. itunes lets u only put music into ur ipod, u cant take it out using it. Now u have the task of downloading some software like idump or whatever that u can use to take the tracks from the ipod. But getting the right ipod ripper here can be a problem as most are’nt free. Then comes the games and other applications. U have to shed out almost Rs2500 for a single game for ur ipod. ok, u may say that the ipod was meant for music primarily, but hey, arent we humans all greedy and want the best and most out of things.
Now comes the interesting parts, u CAN change the basic ipod firmware and get some cool new ones where u can even play games such as the good ole Doom on ur ipod! The only problem is these changes voids ur warranty. So well, overall a real good player, like Ive said, once u get used to it, u really dont feel like using any other interfaced player. Battery lifes real good for music while not so good for videos and photos. Now the only other player you will be thriving for will be the next generation model(which is out now btw)."

well it plays music.   07/21/2008
By Anonymous Reviewer from ca

What's great about it: compact music player with alot of storage
What's not so great: dont expect too much

"when i purchased my ipod i was excited to say the least.
however after a few months use, i must say it started to bother me that i payed 249 dollars for what is basically a hard drive with a screen on it. my ipod has been replaced twice by the friendly people at apple since its purchase due to either hardware or software failure. in all honesty the ipod makes a decent effort at being all the music player it can be, but falls somewhat short on the features, now if the ipod had all the features of itunes including the audio adjustments and party shuffle, i think the ipod would be a much better purchase. if you want a basic music/video storage device/player thats pretty easy to use, then go get yourself an ipod. however if youre an audiophile i suggest running not walking in the opposite direction."

Great Sound, Nice Screen. Its a nice iPod.   07/21/2008
By Brian2008 from Palm Desert, CA

What's great about it: Perfect Sound with better headphones, Clear Screen, Nice Features.
What's not so great: Battery Life is ok. I get maybe 10 hours out of it. Controls are a bit goofy. Not consistant for my taste.

"When I received the iPod Classic Gray, at first I was taken with how nice the unit is. First thing you do, buy a good screen and body cover for it. That way it never gets scratched.

I use Sony MDR-V600 Headphones for the last 11 years and they sound awesome on the iPod Classic. Get at least a Sony headphone or earbuds and you will love the sound till no end.

The controls on the ipod are the clickwheel. They are scetchy at best. Often times perfect in the movement on the screen. Then out of the blue the screen will lock up for a few monents.

I thought about calling Apple about it. I still might. I love that is has a sleep timer. It puts me to bed and then goes to sleep when I do.

Overall, I love this iPod and highly recommend it.

Great job apple.

4/5 Stars."

Best iPod on the market   07/21/2008
By Jellyes from Towson, MD

What's great about it: Lots of HD space, easy to manage, more resistant to scratches than previous ipods
What's not so great: slightly heavier and bigger than the previous generation of ipod classic

"The 80gb iPod will definitely not disappoint. It is cheap for the size of the harddrive, and will most definitely be able to hold your entire music library and a massive amount of videos. I decided to purchase it after my 30gb iPod classic of the last generation got filled up.

A few features of the iPod:
1. The display is beautiful. The screen is really small, so I don't prefer watching movies on it, but if you can stand the screen, you won't have any complaints about the quality. The menus also look a little better than on the previous iPod, having been given more depth.
2. Again, the harddrive space on this thing is amazing. I find it hard to imagine myself ever filling it up. If you keep the thing in good condition, you won't need to upgrade to a new iPod for more space anytime soon.
3. It's big. This thing has a bit more depth than the previous generation of iPod, and also weighs a little more. It's noticeable, and I don't like the new size and weight as much. I think the fact it's all-metal is also a double-edged sword: it's more scratch-resistant, but again, that adds to the weight of the thing. However, it's a small hindrance compared to the large HD space provided by the iPod.
4. The battery life is unbelievable. I have my iPod with me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and listen to it as much as possible throughout the day. With my old classic, I could run out of the battery in a single day of use (4 hours battery life or so). This new iPod has extended that life by nearly 7x as much. I can go days without needing a charge, and long roadtrips barely dent the battery's life. And, after a single night of being plugged in, it's fully recharged.

I was never a fan of the iPod Nanos because they were just as expensive, and you got a mere fraction of the space as the Classic. Having a lot of music, I've always liked the classic iPod better, for they fit comfortably in your pocket and hold all of my music. The 80gb iPod classic is no exception, and it's definitely the best iPod Apple has come out with. So if you're deciding what to buy, it's a trade off: Ultra-small size & capacity, or medium size and enormous capacity. I'd definitely go for the latter of the two.

As to be expected, the same features of the iPods have carried on with this Classic. Adding music via iTunes is as easy as ever, and placing your music into playlists is really easy and keeps you organized. On-The-Go Playlists enables you to make custom playlists to listen to on your drive to work, or when you exercise, or whatever, at any time without use of a computer.
You still can't take music off of the iPod onto your computer through iTunes, which many people complain about, but you'll have to get used to that.
Putting music on has the same two options as always: synchronize and manual. If you sync your iPod, it automatically syncs itself with your iTunes music. So, if you delete a song off your iTunes, your iPod will automatically delete it off itself. Same for if you add a song or playlist.
Manual lets you add and delete whatever you want from your iPod at will. It also lets you plug your iPod into other computers and add their music and playlists without losing any of your own music. That's a really great feature, except you can't take it off your iPod to place it onto your computer at home!

All-in-all, I give the product 5 stars. I'm not 100% absolutely happy with it, but I'm definitely around 98.7% satisfied. I can let the weight and size issue slide, and be quite content with having all my music in my pocket, all the time."

Love my Ipod   07/20/2008
By SBLietzke from South Louisiana

What's great about it: So many songs on one devise

"I'm in my late 40's and at first had to get used to the control pad. But once I did - I do not leave home without my Ipod. I know what the teenagers are drawn to. At at recent family reunion, my dad (70ish) is even interested in one. An Ipod will be his Christmas present."
