What's great about it: That it's a 4 in 1
What's not so great: This printer jams more times than not.
"I'm always having problems with it jamming. Right now there is paper stuck in it that I can't get out and I don't really use this that often."

Get Something Else!

What's great about it: It prints
What's not so great: Poor scan quality, inefficient use of ink, continually jamming automatic doc feeder
"If you have a choice of brands, choose something else! I got this all in one as part of a computer package. Set up was easy but I have had a number of problems with it: extremely hard to insert paper into the paper feeder; poor scan quality and non intuitive scan application (have to go to desktop to initiate scan.. no scan button on printer), "rapid" use of ink, and worst of all, the automatic document feeder constantly jams, which is a real pain when you are trying to copy or fax a multiple page document. Last straw was last night when it took 3 tries to fax a 2 page document!! Boxed it back up and reinstalled my older Lexmark all in one!! (glad I didn't recycle it or give it away!!)"

INK HOG

What's great about it: document feeder
What's not so great: Have to replace a 15 dollar ink cartridge every month
"I have owned many printers and I was intrigued with having a document feeder along with all the other great features this printer offers. Boy was I in for a surprise!!!! There are four small print cartridges in the printer. If one cartridge runs out the printer will not work. Each cartridge is about 15 dollars. Even if you want to print in black and white it will not work with out the color cartridges full. I just want to print typed documents but I can't unless all the color cartridges are full. This means that practically every month you have to purchase a cartridge at 15 dollars. I thought I got such a good deal on this by paying around 100 dollars but I didn't know that I would have to spend 15 dollars a month in ink!!!! I would not buy this printer!!! I have owned canon, hp, and lexmark printers but this is the most expensive ink hog of them all!!!"

What's great about it: everything you expect and more
What's not so great: nothing
"My husband and I are in our 70s. We copy, print, scan, fax, enlarge, shrink, make photos, etc. and it is so easy. My husband was a printing pressman before he retired, and he is very particular when it comes to buying a printer. This is the best we have found and so easy to do. Thanks Sony."

What's great about it: Print quality is OK, ADF is a plus
What's not so great: Ridiculous ink consumption, loud, poor paper feeder
"We bought this printer to replace a similarly cheap 3-in-1 printer (copy, fax, scan). You get what you pay for in this category! In one year I've spent at least 150% of what I paid for the printer on replacement ink cartridges. If you print frequently choose something else. The paper feeder holds too few pages. It is very loud at start up. I can hear the printer start from any room on the same floor. I will spend the extra $100 to upgrade to the next level of printer and it will pay for itself in ink cartridge savings."

What's great about it: none
What's not so great: flimsey, paper feed poor, sucks ink
"I have had trouble with this printer from day one. It took too long to set up. It is always poping up a window to sell ink. If color ink tank is empty, it will not print B&W with black ink. Paper loading is awkward and holds only a few sheets. Paper feed is poor and more times than not, does not print straight."

What's great about it: Really good, fax/copier/printer
What's not so great: terrible photo printer
"I bought this printer thinking it would be perfect to print pictures from my new camera as well as function for other everyday use. Well, it worked for everything else, but the picture quality is terrible. When I compared the same exact pictures to ones from my mom's HP Photosmart C7280 I was shocked. The Epson's picture was completely washed out, looked like a negative when the light hit it a certain way and it was not glossy at all. I used the same exact paper on the HP and it looks just like it would have if I had the store print it out. It looked the same no matter how the light hit it and was more vibrant. I think this is due to the fact that the HP uses 6 ink cartridges vs. the 3 the Epson uses. I would say this Epson is a good printer for faxing, copying, and printing documents, but for photos it is terrible and the reason I am only giving it a 2 was because they advertised lab quality photos and it was no where near!!!!"

What's great about it: the ADF tray is major plus at this price point
What's not so great: Extremely high ink use
"This printer has a lot of cool functions. The ADF tray is exceptional. However, if you are more than a once in a while printer may want to steer clear. I have had this printer for 6 months and have changed the ink several times. There are 4 small cartridges that go fast!!!!!! It gets expensive really quick. I had an HP before that was an in sipper."

What's great about it: all in one
What's not so great: loud
"i only had this for a few days and so far it works great and takes a photo card and with a little viewer you can print your pics and make copies or use it just as a printer for less than a basic printer and can use it as a fax machine it prints fast enough and other than it being loud for the price its great and very cheap if you had to buy a printer and scanner and or fax also"

What's great about it: fax works great
What's not so great: uses to much ink
"I had always used an all in one multi printer/fax made by HP and when it quit working I bought the Epson CX9400 multi printer/fax this was the worst decision I could have made. I have had 4 printers in the past 4 months and everyone of them would not read one or more of the color cartridges after they were installed. I have never had this much trouble out of a printer. The only good thing through all of this is that Best Buy.com and the Epson Company have worked with me on this issue. I have decided since I have had so much trouble with this printer that I am going back to HP. Hope everyone that purchases this printer has better luck than I have had."

What's great about it: Plug in and go NO problems
What's not so great: Wont print on 3 hole paper
"I tried to print on 3 hole paper and it would not work. Spent hours with the WORST TECH SUPPORT who advised there is nothing they can do but have me return the product. I spoke to several people because I thought this to be a strange flaw. The other features worked great. It is loud but the quality and features made it a good buy. I might keep it because of how well it works otherwise."

A Multifunction Printer that does it all

What's great about it: Prints clear pictures on photo paper EVERYTIME!
What's not so great: None
"This is a plug-and-play device. As soon as you plug it in it's extremely helpful in letting you know how to install the ink. I caught this on sale (as it is on sale now) and within minutes I was printing my pictures on high-gloss photo paper with no smudging of any kind. And I use Sony memory cards so that is usually a challenge. It prints from .PDF easily and the time is always fast. I am truly amazed that it took so long for me to get this beauty. One of the best things about it is that the ink isn't all that expensive. My last printer had me paying double the cost in ink. Overall if you buy this printer you are getting a great machine for your money. This is an investment that you should not pass on."

Avoid Epson

What's great about it: Makes a great paperweight
What's not so great: Won't recognize ink cartridges
"I bought the Epson CX9400Fax yesterday, and I keep getting a "ink cartridges not recognized" message. And these are the official Epson inks that were in the box with the printer! Their site's support pages were of no use, and so I decided to look for help through a search engine. I've discovered is that this problem is incredibly common with several Epson models. And the only recommendation the company's tech support seems to offer is to return the printer to the store for an exchange. So yes, I'll be exchanging mine.... For an HP or Brother."

Fast for an inkjet!

What's great about it: Can Reduce and Enlarge documents, scans, faxes and prints!
What's not so great: Noisy as can be when feeding paper and uses ink very fast
"My husband and I were looking for a reasonably priced replacement for our previous Epson CX6600 printer that I just loved. Our old Epson quit printing blue and then black ink despite any procedures to clean the print heads, etc. This model has the one feature that I needed in addition to printing. It can reduce and enlarge documents. I also can be used to fax and scan and negates the need to take up valuable desk space with multiple types of equipment. I like the view screen that shows status messages and guidance on changing the toner, a feature which my previous Epson did not have. The only thing that would make it a five star printer is a reduction in the noise level. When it starts to pull paper you better not be trying to catnap! ha!"

What's great about it: Auto feed scanner, brilliant color
What's not so great: auto feeder tray prone to breaking
"One of the best things I like about this printer is the auto feed scanner where you put yout your stack of papers on the tray and with Epsons easy scanning program, you can scan everything into a pdf or whatever file you want. I have also tried some photo prints and the colors are great, even on regular paper. The only problem I have seen is that one of the end connectors for the feed tray has broken, it still works well, but still a bother."

What's great about it: Easy set-up; Fast; Most reasonable ink prices; fax;
What's not so great: The printer is loud and slow to wake up.
"I researched Multi-functions machines and the CX9400 Fax seems to be the best value for the money. It was simple to set up and I've had no probems with it. I'm happy with it as compared to my Lexmark that I was using. The fax and flat screen copy are nice features for my needs and work great."
