"I purchase this system for my father, look's great and sound even better. Though it’s not a Bose system, meaning the Bose offers you more true crisp sounds and deep base. As the Yamaha offers you more deep low end thump. For the money I'm very happy....and would recommend it to anyone that wants a bit more punch to go with the plasma/LCD."

"The unit provides great, crisp sound. The sub booms and will rattle your room quite nicely if turned up all the way. For the price, it is hard to beat."

"Not wanting cables running all over my family room I decided to go with this sound bar system and I'm glad I did. The sound is very good and the system gives you different setup options for various types of listening. It was very easy to set up with only two pieces. I only wish components like these came with connecting cables. You will need an optical or coax cable (depending on the option available for what you are connecting it too)."

"We have recently moved in to a new condo. At our last home I had a 5.1 surround sound system. That is not an option here since there is no basement. I had originally bought a Bose Cinemate, but it has been very disapointing. This system blows away the Cinemate. The bass is nice and strong (which the Bose lacked). While this is certainly not true 5.1, this system really fills the room with sound. It is a great alternative when running wire for rear speakers is not an option."

What's great about it: Easy settup, no clutter. What's not so great: None yet.
"Very good sound for someone who does not want to deal with lot's of wires. Good separation from speech to other sounds. Sub is very good. It makes the system really pop.After much advise from different people hooked sub up via optical port to tv,seems to work just fine.Just lower tv volume and away you go. Much better then Bose cinamate or speaker bar from Boston Acc. Set this system up in 10 min. Just play with the settings to fit your needs. What a change from regular viewing. Well worth the money!!"

"Great system for non-audiophile like me; surely the multi systems technically sound better, but for my needs this system is perfect and the price was very reasonable. My room configuration is not the ideal but sound is still very good if not great. The manual does not clearly describe how to make the angle and other adjustments, so some trial and error required to see if I can improve the settings for room with equipment in corner. Inputs are adequate for my needs. System easily portable if I move or upgrade some time later. Would highly recommend."

"I PURCHASED THIS UNIT JUST BEFORE THE DAYTONA 500 AND IT PERFORMED FLAWLESSLY. THE SOUND IS NOT EXACTLY LIKE 5.1 BUT IS CLOSE ENOUGH, DOES NOT TAKE UP MUCH ROOM AND LOOKS GOOD MOUNTED UNDER THE FLAT PANEL ON THE WALL. COULD USE MORE INPUTS AND A FEW MORE OPTIONS FOR SET-UP BUT IS PLUG AND PLAY FOR BEGINNERS. YOU WILL NOT GET A BETTER THEATER SYSTEM FOR THE MONEY!!!!"

"FOR THE MONEY AND THE AMOUNT OF SPACE IT TAKES UP IT IS A GREAT VALUE. IT DOES NOT PERFORM UP TO MY FAMILY SURROUND SOUND WITH FOCAL SPEAKERS WHICH ARE VERY EXPENSIVE. BUT FOR AN AVERAGE SIZE LIVING ROOM OR BEDROOM WHERE SPACE IS LIMITED, YOU COULD NOT GO WRONG WITH THE YAS-70. YOU MAY HAVE TO ADJUST WHERE YOU PUT THE SUBWOOFFER FOR BEST SOUND. THE REMOTE COULD HAVE SOME MORE OPTIONS ON IT, BUT THAT'S ABOUT IT. DID I MENTION THAT WHEN WATCHING A MOVIE IT SOUNDS FANTASTIC!"

What's great about it: Simple hook up, sound options, sound quality What's not so great: lack of inputs
"First of all, if you are looking for what this promises, it will be perfect for you. I have limited access to run wires and place rear speakers, so this concept was what I needed. Compared this to different BOSE systems and other 2.1 systems, this seemed better to me for the $$ and sound delivery. I hooked it up directly to my Sharp LCD with only a digital input cable, and my Blu Ray and cable box go through that also. If you want more input options, there are only a couple but this seems to have worked perfect for me, I liked the ease of it. Bottom line is that for sports, movies, and any normal shows, I have the Yamaha turned on and it sounds great !"

What's great about it: Easy set up, uses minimal space What's not so great: doesn't quite replace full 5.1 surround setup
"I added this to my new 52" Sony XBR5. It's a good looking unit and adds much needed punch. Keep in mind that the brains of the unit are in the sub enclosure. So you still have to install six speaker wires from the sub enclosure to the sound bar, plus a interface cable that resembles a old null modem cable connects the soundbar to the sub. You still control everything from the soundbar via the included remote. So once you hook up alll the wires you can tuck them away and put the sub out of site. Set up was a snap because the speaker wires have connectors on the ends that are color coded and resemble RJ-11 type connectors. Yes this unit only has one Optical Input, so I hooked a toslink cable from my HDTV's audio output to the soundbar's optical input that is located on the sub enclosure, so everything that's hooked up to my TV (PS3, 360, Wii and Tivo) plays right through the soundbar. It's got great volume and clarity and incredible bass. There are seperate volume controls for center, surround and sub which is nice and there are pre set sound set ups, movie, sports, auto and game. I found that the movie mode works best for games and movies. Now the million dollar question? Is it as good as a conventional 5.1 set up. Unfortunately no. Is it a nice compromise for us that have a significant other who will not allow speakers all over the room. Yes. It sounds good, looks good and the price isn't too much."

Great sound in small package

"We wanted a home theater sound solution for our den without turning our den into a home theater. I looked at 2.1, 5.1, and sound bars. I don't think a soundbar will deliver what a discrete speaker system can. The Yamaha system offered me a compromise with good theater sound quality without clutter from speaker stands and mounted speakers. The system was easy to set up. I have a Time Warner DVR and upconvert DVD player. The DVR feeds via optical cable, DVD by digital coax. There is no HDMI input. HD broadcasts sould good with this system. Movies sound great as well. In the room configuration we have, the music (am fm tuner) sounds mediocre."

"I was skeptical about this type of technology but tried it anyway. I was pleasantly surprised at the separation and lifelike sound quality. Sub woofer is excellent and makes this a bargain at the price. Great for medium to large size rooms and makes for an all inclusive sensory experience when paired with a HD televeison. Also makes XM radio sound REALLY great!!"

"My wife and I had been looking for a home theater system with great sound and features but without all of the fuss of mounting speakers and fishing wire through the walls for real channel sound. We considered the Bose 3-2-1 system and the Bose Cinemate. The 3-2-1 had great sound but we did not like the fact that we were "locked in" with the standard dvd player. The Cinemate was just ok and mainly amplified the TV volume. We discovered the Yamaha Air Surround System before it was released for sale. We talked the sales counselor into selling it to us after reading about it online. Long story short, this product rocks. It fit our needs in the sense that it did not have rear channel speaker, provided spectacular sound quality and allowed us to add a HD/DVD player in the future. I strongly advise giving this product a look. We are happy we did not go with one of the Bose systems!!!"
