What's great about it: HDMI audio and video, Sounds Amazing, Good Price
What's not so great: None
"I do not understand why people say this is difficult to set up? It took me more time to open/unpack the box than to set it up? If you are good with electronics/own electronics it should be easy...I have my HDTV (HDMI) to the receiver, then from the receiver (HDMI) to my XBOX 360, and (HDMI) to my samsung bluray player. Three HDMI cables is all you need! Sound is amazing for a fraction of the "higher end" systems!"

Beware Of Theater Systems With Projectors

What's great about it: System sounds good and looks good
What's not so great: HDMI does not pass through audio even with a Samsung DVD player
"Make sure you ask the sales person if the multiple HDMI inputs allow the audio and video to be pass throuh the Amp. This system does not have this capability. I also had a very hard time setting the system up using their menus for my Sony Projector system. I purchased a Samsung DVD HD player hoping the setup to be straight forward. I also could not get the X-Box video to work using HDMI. The Samsung product specialist was no help even after 3 hours on the phone. He recommended that I return the DVD player and try something else as well. I am returning the unit for soemthing better."

What's great about it: Decent sound, good starter
What's not so great: hdmi issues... maybe
"This is a good sound system to start off with, especially if you have other samsung components or tv. The Anynet feature on them does help them comunicate. The speakers are what they are... small. Like i said, ok to hit the ground running, but i replaced the fronts with floor standing speakers, rears with bookshelfs, and am going to get new center. The samsung speakers do good for the extra two making a nice 7.1. HDMI sometimes won't come up on the tv unless the components are on first then the reciever. That might be the harmony's fault, and that can be fixed, just need to try it."

What's great about it: Great Sound Quality, Clear sound
What's not so great: Hard to follow the manual for setup and maintenance
"I bought this as open item at 439 dollars in bestbuy near. My wife is a graduate of music college and teached piano for more than 20 yrs in S. Korea. So I asked the sound quality of many systems and she recommended Bose systems in LightHouse Premium Outlet. But I thought the price is too high for the spec. So I searched audio systems near my house, Holland Michigan. I found finally this system and set up by myself cause I am confident for elctric systems due to my career as an engineer. But I found the setting up is a little bit hard even for me. For example, if the subwoofer doesn't work, you must push the "spk select" button and select "small speaker' setting. But I and my wife are now quite satisfactory for this system. My wife told me that this is better than her old sony 2.1 receiver and speaker system."

What's great about it: Sound Quailty, look, Price
What's not so great: HD audio pass thru only, poor users manual
"Trex123 - I originally thought i had the same problem of having to leave the TV on to play a cd in the dvd player, this is not the case. You just have to run another line from the aduio out on the dvd player to the audio imput for dvd on the back of the receiver. The HDMI cable will only work with the tv on but with the secondary connection it will allow you to listen to music with the tv off. After you select DVD on the receiver press the IMPUT MODE button and it will find the other signal. I've done this, works perfectly."

What's great about it: Great sound and elegant looking
What's not so great: User manual is confusing and not in order with menus
"Our family room is rather large and I wanted a system that would compliment the excellent picture on my 46" Sharp LCD television. For the money, this system is one of the best that I could find. The sound quality is outstanding and fills the room with clear and brilliant sound. The connections on the back of the unit are clearly marked and do not require any special fittings. Best of all, the sales associate at the BB store in Lake Zurich, IL took the extra time to help me with the installation and set up of the unit. He was truly a professional."

What's great about it: looks great
What's not so great: subwoofer doesn't work
"Ok...I don't usually write reviews but I thought I should put my two cents in here. This is my second samsung unit i've bought in three weeks. The first unit was a samsung HT-TX72. The system looked nice and the sound was great, however the picture quality on the dvd's was horrible and the picture would "black out" every 20 to 30 minutes. I returned the unit and bought this unit (HT-AS720ST). It was kinda an impulse buy, I returned the previous samsung and saw this system on sale. I didn't do alot of research (dumb move on my part) and bought it on a whim. I took it home and set it up and to my horror the subwoofer didn't work. I called samsung and they had no valuble advice or recommendations..The guy i talked to on the phone told me the subwoofer only works when you're watching dvd movies, which doesn't make any sense..I don't think the samsung guy knew what he was talking about which didn't help my situation at all...I read other reviews on this model and found that other people also had subwoofer issues...Bottom line, it's not a coincidence that my subwoofer and other customers subs aren't working..This system must be defective so I have to warn you...Don't buy this system"

Worst receiver!

|
What's great about it: When working, sound quality is adequate.
What's not so great: Flawed design
"I have this receiver connected to a DVD player and satellite via HDMI cables. However, in order to listen to music from either source you have to have your tv turned on. If you turn the TV off, the sound will cut off after about a 1 minute delay. Tech support says there is nothing they can do about this problem, they are all made that way. This is a serious design flaw; since in order to listen to music, you have to waste electricity and also burn the lamp in your TV. My tv lamp costs about $300 to replace."

What's great about it: GREAT sound, great connections, full 1080P HDMI Pass-through
What's not so great: NO S-video at all but this seems to be common now days at this price point
"This is a great system to go with your HD system, yeah there is only 2 HDMI inputs, but there are also 2 optical sound inputs, I worked it out. You can buy 2 extra speakers for 7.1, which is cool, you can buy the system now and buy the extra speakers as you wish. I like it sounds MUCH better than my cousin's 6.1 Yamaha set up he paid $900.00! You won't be dissapointed for the price point. If you are a Samsung fan like me you'll be glad to know it does run anynet+ you just have to use an HDMI or a lightpipe (optical audio input) enjoy!!"

What's great about it: great sound, great price
What's not so great: had to buy extra speakers for 7.1
"This is a great little unit. I have my Apple TV and DVD-R hooked up through the HDMI in this unit. Originally the picture was too bright, but you just have change the display settings for each unit to dim and they look and sound great! My HD Combo DVD player & satellite run through optical inputs with my HDMI going straight to the TV and everything is phenomenal! I will never use my TV speakers again. There is so much you can do with this unit. I've only got it using about 50% of its capabilities and I can't believe what great sound I'm getting from it. There is still more I have to learn about this unit, but I can honestly say that this upgrade from my Pioneer system was well worth the small price I paid for the unit. Great job Sammy!"

What's great about it: Sounds Incredible
What's not so great: Poor electronic parts
"I this systems and after an hour and a half of watching a movie VIA HDMI (DVD) the sound went out. After purchasing two sets of monster cables the issue still wasn't correct. With a littel bit of troubleshooting I determine the port was bad. I return it and BB replaced it with no problems. I get the new receiver home, hook it and I have sound. I then watch a movie for an hour and half and blamo same thing. I would expect this from a $200 system and not a $600 one. I will be returning the whole setup tomorrow and get somehitng else. I amvery dissappointed as this systems has great sound."

What's great about it: Crisp & Clear sound, Deep Bass, & Looks GREAT! Matches my Samsung DLP PERFECT!
What's not so great: Only comes as 5.1 Surround sound. You have to purchase 2 other speakers for 7.1
"Pros: This HTIB blows away the competition!! Once you hook it up and get your settings right you forget that this little setup is a HTIB. I have owned may different setups in the past, and this one, BY FAR surpasses them ALL! When I bought my new 56" Samsung DLP, I already had a Bose Acoustimass Series 10 setup and had planned on just using that. When I saw this setup in the store, I was like; I got to have it. How nice would it look to have everything matching in a nice high gloss black finish.(DLP TV--SURROUND SOUND--PLAYSTATION 3 & TV STAND) So when I got it home and hooked it up I was BLOWN AWAY on how good it sounded."Better than my (hate to say it) Overpriced Bose setup" The FULL 1080p Pass-through on this is GREAT! 2 HDMI inputs and one HDMI output. I was a little concerned at first because there are NO COMPONENT Inputs or outputs on this unit but when I got to thinking about the components I would be hooking up, the lack of Component inputs really didn't matter. This Unit can be upgraded to a Full 7.1 Surround Sound Unit with the purchase on two additional speakers. Witch brings me to the cons..
Cons: One thing I don't like is that you have to purchase the 2 additional MATCHING speakers directly from Samsung (well actually it called J-J enterprise) @ $76.00 a piece..$152.00 for just two small matching speakers that should have come with the system. (Now you can use different speakers for this, I just like thing to match) Now by the way this system sounds I'm sure its worth the $76.00 a piece to experience 7.1 and have everything match. That's about it, I would definitely recommend this to anyone in the market for a new home theater setup."

What's great about it: Had good reviews
What's not so great: Too many setup options - poor manual
"I had high hopes for this but 2 weeks into ownership, the subwoofer stopped working. I exchanged it for another system(same) and a few weeks later - same thing happened - subwoofer stopped working! I have since returned it for a full refund and am in the market for a new surround sound receiver/speaker system."

What's great about it: Good sound, Easy setup, Overall Value
What's not so great: too many buttons on the remote; manual could be a little more user friendly for switching info and speaker set up info
"I'm a novice and have no idea about anything home theater related. I have done a lot of research and asked a bunch of questions from friends, co-workers, etc. I was up in the air between this system and an Onkyo system (I did not want an included DVD player, which is what limited me). I knew that I needed a system that would carry BOTH audio and video thru HDMI. Since the Onkyo ONLY carried video thru HDMI, I decided that the Samsung was the best fit for me and my living room since it carried both audio and video thru HDMI. First off, the box wasn't too heavy for me to carry inside the home to its destination in the living room. The items were well packaged and easy to remove from the box. *Remember, at this point I still really have no clue how this thing gets set up* I was able to hook this baby up and have it wired and ready for sound in about 1 hour. The lengthy part was getting the wires hooked up from the receiver to the speakers. Small fingers would help here, so if you don't have them, borrow someone's small fingers! The manual was easy enough to read to figure out how to hook it up. The wires and speakers are color coded, so that made it that much easier to know I had it right. The sound is beautiful. My room is about 18' x 20' and its neither overbearing or under powered. The ranges in volume will let you have the sound you desire. The sub woofer is plenty powerful for someone like me and it has a great bass sound. It really makes the home theater experience enjoyable. This HTIB is a excellent for the price. My budget called for under $600. Even though the Onkyo was about $100 cheaper, the added feature of the HDMI audio made me lean this way, and I'm glad I did. My set up: HD DVR (from DirecTv) HDMI in to the Samsung receiver; Toshiba HD DVD Player into the receiver also thru HDMI; and HDMI from the receiver out to the Panasonic Plasma TV. Great picture, great sound."

Superb System for the money

What's great about it: Superb system
"This system is superb and looks great too. I have a 50 inch Samsung Plasma, Samsung Blu Ray, Toshiba Hd DVd player and Directv HD DVR hooked up too this machine.
The sound is so amazing!!!! I have the blu ray and HD DVD player hooked up to the reciever via HDMI. I then had the Hd DVR hooked up to the tv via hdmi and then an optical cable from the HD dvr to the reciever.
I recomend that you get new speaker wires for this system as the stuff that comes with it is flimsy and basically junk. Get 14 or 16 guage speaker wire and get banana plugs to hook them into the reciever. You will be glad you did this and you will get better sound out of the system.
ALso if interested in this system, buy it and set it up at home. The way it is set up at the store is 90% of the time incorrect and does not do the system justice. I have seen it set up in stores where it has too be turned up all the way and it still isnt loud.
That is not the case at home. This puppy pumps out a lot of volume and the Subwoofer is great. The sub woofer is not a passive one, which is good. It is powered on its own!!~!
In all this system is great. Give it a try. You will not regret it!!!"
