All, this unit looks better than any HTIB on the market. The sound quality was real good if you upgraded the front & rear speakers. That said, I returned this unit twice! Thanks BB for two bites of the apple. All of the components were Samsung - Anynet + compliant except the cable box. TV- LN 46A850...Samsung 1080P-DVD + HT SA720ST and Cable Box -Scientific Atlanta 8300 HD. Unfortunately, the Anynet + feature would not work regardless of the configuration. I bought new HDMI 1.3 cables, then upgraded those to Monster Cables. I hooked up the system with optical cables too. I spent so much time talking to Tech support at Samsung we're on a first name basis now. If you don't mind going through the set up process every time you turn on the TV this unit works pretty good. I couldn't do HTIB on the cheap. I went with a Sony STRDG 820($360@BB, Polk speakers (Amazon) ...TSi100 x4 + CS10 + Rear T15+ CSW10 - I saved $134. Enough $ for my new speaker stands.
What's great about it: The piano finish is top notch
What's not so great: The Anynet + feature will drive you nuts

Just purchased this system tonight using the price match. Got the system for only $399.99 and absolutely love it. The setup is easier than people think. Took me about 45 mins and poped in a blu-ray movie on my PS3 and was blown away. This system sounds great. I also have a 46" LCD Samsung TV and will never pay $8 to see a movie again. The only thing I need now is the last two speakers to make it a 7.1 channel system. Need to save up a bit before I can do that.
What's great about it: Sound quality, true cinema feel
What's not so great: Speaker wires are a little small

I have had the Samsung 650W 5.1-Channel Home Theater System for over a month now and haven't had any problems with it so far. This system is easy on the eyes and ears. The sound is excellent for my living space. I have a Samsung 40' 750 Series TV, Comcast DVR, and PS3. I cant beat the quality of sound I'm getting from this system. If you are in search for a good looking and sounding home theater system, dont look any further. Go get it and give it a try. Easy set up too...Enjoy:)
What's great about it: Easy set up, Excellent sound..

I purchased this about 8 months ago, and while I loved the fact that it was priced right, and the subwoofer was great, I soon found that I was having issues with the HDMI inputs. I have a Fios HD-DVR on the satellite HDMI channel, and a Playstation 3 on the DVD HDMI channel, and the unit exhibits odd issues when switching between channels. For instance, after watching television on the DVR, the input must be changed to the DVD channel before turning the PS3 on, or else the system will not find the video and audio source. If this happens, you must turn the system off, wait a few seconds, then try again. In other instances, the system will output weird feedback, with the center channel speaker exhibiting very low sound output, and very scratchy voices.
Just the other day, the satellite HDMI channel stopped outputting sound. I tried all the normal tricks, but nothing would bring back the sound output. I swapped the PS3 and the DVR HDMI cables, and now, I was able to get sound via the DVD channel, but still nothing through the satellite channel. I just got off the phone with Samsung, and while I'm still in my warranty period, I have to send it back to them and wait between two and three weeks to get the system back, hoping its fixed.
I currently own two Samsung LCD HD-TVs, a 42" and a 32". Both are absolutely beautiful, and are great values. I will, however, never purchase a Samsung receiver again. I'll stick with Onkyo or Sony from now on.
What's great about it: Easy set up, good looks, price is right, HDMI switching
What's not so great: HDMI switch isn't very good, product flaws
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

A must have for any Samsung TV owner. Never have a seen a system that gives you everything in one box that exhibits amazing sound quality. Hooking up speaker wire is kind of difficult, speakers are a little big, and if you aren't technology savvy you may have some difficulty navigating the receiver. However, there is no system out there that has HDMI connection and everything else for this price. All the pros trump the cons. A definite recommend.
What's great about it: Excellent sound, price, quality
What's not so great: Speakers are a little big, hooking up speaker wires in the back of receiver is a pain

We got the whole matching system, touch of color 40 inch, the audio system and a blue ray DVD. Everything looks and sounds stunning. One thing that attracted us to the system is the beauty of the components. So far no problems with the system. I come from a studio background and these seem to be fairly decent speakers & components.
My only gripe is the speaker connectors on the back of the receiver. They are a huge pain to connect the speaker wires to. They are WAYTOCLOSETOGETHER!!!. You can't get your fingers in between the connectors to put the wires in and screw them on, especially bent over and sideways while installing.
Other than that, I love the system.
What's great about it: Visual beauty! Great Sound, quality components etc...
What's not so great: One little thing. The speaker hookups on the rear crammed to close together.

I just purchased this the other night, dispite all the negative reviews about the setup. In about an hour and a half, I was up and running and watching TV and blu rays. The setup is really not that difficult, just be patient everything is color coded and real simple. It has great sound and I am very impressed with the entire unit, I think the best part is that it is expandable to 7.1! So you pay for a 5.1 system but later on down the road when you want to upgrade you can do that with this system! My only two negative remarks; the speaker wire they supply is pretty weak, and I think at least two speakers should come with stands! But overall a great product and do not get intimidated with other reviews, the setup is really not that difficult but to simplify it run all HDMI!
What's great about it: Look, sound, ease of set up, and overall great quality
What's not so great: speaker wire, needs speaker stands

Brought this puppy home was anxious to set it up. Totally please with how beautiful and elegant it look. Samsung did a great job combining simplicity and grace with the piano finishing.
Setup took roughly 45-60 minutes. Powered it on and nothing...absolutely nothing. Read and re-read the manual. Went through all the possible setups and still nothing. Finally decided to just let it sit for about 10 minutes and then it finally work, all on its own. That made me come to the conclusion that there might be something wrong with the processor. Watched some Blue Rays on the Samsung Blue Ray player and I have to admit. The sound and video was fabulous. Sharp and crisp highs and thunderous lows. My floor rattle with every rumble from the sub. Went to bed satisfied.
Went to work the next morning and when I got home......it happened again. No signal even with appx 10-20 minutes of waiting. I didn't change a single setting, as a matter of fact, I tried to watch the same disc that was left in the Blue Ray player.
With a little bit more waiting I finally got something, but it was a pink screen. Then it went back to the error "no signal", then pink screen, then movie title, then pink screen, then movie title (well you get the idea). It went back and forth like that for about 30 minutes.
The volume knob doesn't work well either. It was smooth for about a quarter of a turn and then it got really really stiff. I tried to turned it a bit more, but it started to make a scratching sound.
Well I am returning it and exchanging it for another exact same one. Hopefully it is only with this one particular receiver that I bought.
What's great about it: Gorgeous appearance, great sound
What's not so great: Keeps losing digital signal-it would be well worth the money if it worked correctly.

My son put up our system and he is quite familiar with the process. We were doing well, but we could not get the voices when watching DVDs. We eventually turned over to the phone support. They were not understanding our problem. Well, it was really getting late and we figured out you could get voice if you went into the remotes options or something and did multiple clicks to get the sound. Very annoying, but it worked.
Well, anyway, the next day I turned on the system and both the TV and DVD systems were working great without having to do multilple clicks to bring up the voices.
I think the problem was actually rectified by simply shutting down the system and booting it back up, which was something we had not done the night before. Just like you have to do with many computer programs.
Its been working great and easy since then.
Too bad the support team was not aware of this simple solution.
What's great about it: Great sound!
What's not so great: Set up

I am the average customer, looking for a good HTIB (home theater in a box), for a reasonable price. My husband watches a lot of sports (football, hockey, etc.), but we do not game (no xbox, wii, etc.) nor are we big movie watchers (no blu ray). I relied on the experienced Best Buy sales associate (last minute XMAS gift) and got just what I was looking for. Couple of things to note - - the box is heavy and bulky (no box handles) and does not include the HDMI cable. All of the pieces that are included are clearly marked. Reading the reviews (post purchase but before setting it up) made me a little worried on how hard it would be to set up, but it went very smoothly. I also purchased two speaker stands and again, had no problems. Overall, I would highly recommend (just remember to get the HDMI cable - - not required, but a must have).
What's great about it: Sounds great and easy to set up @ reasonable $$$
What's not so great: HDMI cable not included

If all of your video devices use HDMI, then this is a good buy, but if you have any devices with component video, then this receiver does not support them. Comcast cable box and older Xbox 360. Don't just assume your "digital" video sources use HDMI. Make sure you check them in advance and save yourself a big headache and store return.
What's great about it: Good value for new video sources
What's not so great: No component video inputs

The sound and the looks are the best, but the rear speakers are a bit heavy. Best Buy sells plastic mounts that seem like they'll do the trick untill you hook up the speaker to them, then you find out that you're going to have to use super glue just to have piece of mind. Hooking it up to my TV/Sat wasn't the easiest either, but i refuse to pay the geek squad for something iI can do myself. The sub shakes my couches so there is no problem there. I also like that I can use my old DVD player with this unit. I'm not ready to upgrade my video, yet. Plus I don't want to be stuck with yesterday's video technology when I am ready to upgrade. Overall? I give it a 4.5!
What's great about it: Sound!
What's not so great: Hooking it up to my TV/Sat

I purchased this after ignoring the bad reviews and seeing this system set up at a local bestbuy with a blue ray hooked up to it. It is easy to set up and those who had problems, probably have problems with all electronics. The system has deep bass and really clear sound and is loud. I barely have the sub woofer turned up and the bass will rattle the floor. The price can't be beat and sounds just as good as a more expensive systems. The black piano finish on the speakers adds a nice touch and was something the got me to switch from a Yamaha system that had the similar price. One draw back is that the speakers are not wireless. The system does come with speaker wire but I only used this on one speaker as the wire is very thin and is not noticeable for where I was positioning the speaker. The other 4 speakers I used monster speaker wire. This improved the sound dramatically. This system can be used with HDMI cables. The sales person at Bestbuy said that Video is not supported through HDMI., It does work only if your TV suppports it. Your TV also needs to support 480P, HDMI will not play audio on anything other than HD channels if your TV only supports 480i So if you have a cheap HDTV. Vizio, etc, then you may need to use one optical cables. I am still on the fence on whether I am going to hook it through HDMI. I would prefer to have my Direct TV and PS3 run straight to my TV rather than having the video go through a another source and the sound difference is really not that noticeable.
This is a great system for the money, those who had problems probably should read the instructions a little closer and ignore anything a sales person tell you. They try but they really don't know everything. You can find out more on a product by typing in the model number on the internet.
What's great about it: Deep bass, ease of set up.
What's not so great: not wireless

Got this system on sale for a good deal. Set up was easy; It took less than an hour to set-up with my Samsung HDTV, HD cable, Xbox 360, and PS3. Sound quality is amazing. So many different modes simply enhance the sound quality whether viewing movies, playing games, or to just listening to music. Overall, this is a really good system to pick up if you can get it while its on sale.
What's great about it: Great sound quality and very quick and easy set-up.
What's not so great: Subwoofer is a huge!

I bought this based on some good reviews and ignored the bad reviews. I'm very happy with the system. It sounds great, looks great, and works well with my other Samsung products(TV & Blu Ray). Yes it was easy to set up(hooking up wires and that stuff) but some things were difficult though. I found that I was not getting a picture or sound unless I was on a HD channel. Through Samsung support phone call I was told that the HDMI connections on this unit do not support 480i, only 480p and above.(Would be nice if this was stated in the manual) I needed to set my Directv HD receiver to only display in 480p or above and everything was fine from then on. Also there is no remote code to operate the Directv remote with this unit so now my coffee table has 2 remotes. My Samsung TV remote is suppose to opperate the HTas720 through the anynet feature exclusive for Samsung, but that doesnt always work as there seems to be some "handshake" issues between the two units.(And yes the system is hooked up with the optical cable needed for the Anynet feature) So as someone else posted, it could have a 5 star rating had it been easier to set up.
What's great about it: Looks great and sounds great!
What's not so great: Not so easy set up when you have to call for support.

I bought this surround system yesterday at 4:30pm, I took down my old surround and started running wires for this one. I put together the rear speaker stands. Then started connecting the speakers and putting all the HDMI cables on. By 7:30pm this system was completely set up and started watching the race. I dont understand why people say this is hard to set up or a hard to understand manual. I have this hooked up with a 52" Samsung LCD and with the anynet the tv found the receiver right away and everything works perfect. The only hiccup in the whole installation was my fault. At first I didn't have audio with the PS3 but after a while I realized that electronically the PS3 was setup to feed audio through composite cables. Once I switched it, I put in a blue ray and it sounded like we were at the movies. Very clear sound and really good base. I will be purchasing the extra two speakers from samsung and it will be a 7.1 for the money this is a great set up and I would reccomend it to anyone.
What's great about it: Easy set up, sounds great
