What's great about it: Great Picture, Super Quick, Huge Hard Drive, Rarely Freezes, Awesome Web Cam!
What's not so great: None
I absolutely love this computer! I currently own three computers, and it is my favorite of them all. When you first open it up the screen is amazing, and it is great to watch movies on. It receives great signal for wireless internet and is so fast. When one of my other computers starts to act up I pull this one out because I know that it will not let me down. It never freezes no matter how many windows you have opened up and on top of that it has plenty of room to store whatever you need. All I have to say is for the price, this is definately the sony vaio to go with. It has all the feature that you actually "need" and more. And to top it all off it is very portable for a laptop with these qualifications.
I really recommend!

What's great about it: So fast
What's not so great: Too much extra stuff on it
I love this computer. It's the second vaio i've had and I had great luck with the last one too. The only thing that I don't like about the vaio is that it comes with so much extra stuff that I don't need. But it holds everything and more. I would definitely recommend this to anyone!

What's great about it: X-BRITE SCREEN; 2 GHZ; CORE 2 DUO PROCESSOR SPEED; 250 HARD DRIVE and the built in Camera
What's not so great: the junkware pre-added to the computer which makes the start-up pretty slow. Low Battery time. Video Card
I was very excited to purchase this computer and I bought it at the sale price of $999; so it was a great investment and great price for top of the line computer. The computer is good for its price and is pretty fast at many tasks. I was overall impressed with the performance except the fact that it does take a few minutes to start-up. But, as many users pointed out the reason for this is the pre-added junkware on this laptop, which you can remove to make the computer perform better/faster.
In the end, I love the X-brite screen, it looks like glass. and I love the extra hard drive space to store all my movies and songs on.
The price is amazing, so much better and cheaper then the HP and other computer brands when Sony is a better quality and a more trusted brand.
The voice/speakers are also better then Dell/Hp/Compaq...
I can say this since in my family, my brother has dell, my sister has compaq and my elder sister has Toshiba. So, from all the brands of laptops at my house, mine is the best one and most reasonably priced and faster performance, higher processor speed and more hard drive for the same price as theirs....
After seeing my laptop, they all wish they had invested in a SONY.

What's great about it: Processor, screen, style, graphics, overall performance, value for money
What's not so great: battery life
This is one amazing laptop. IF you want performance like an alienware for the price of HP, then this is for you. Value for money, this is the BEST out there. Period. The only downside with this laptop is that Best Buy doesnt sell the version of this model with the nVIDIA video card with 515MB of graphic memory! But if you find one with the nVIDIA graphics card, you cant go wrong. The ONLY fault with this laptop is the battery life. Even in power saver w/ the wireless off and at the lowest screen brightness, you will struggle to get past 2hrs. If you can deal with having a short battery life, then you MUST buy this laptop.

What's great about it: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 GB RAM, 2 Ghz, inbuilt webcam
What's not so great: Graphics, Intel GMA
This is a great laptop for the normal user but it definitely has a few glitches. I bought this mainly as a desktop replacement and for some casual gaming. I was wrong. The Intel GMA X3100 graphics card does not support most games, not even delivering basic performance. I had purchased Call of duty 2 some weeks before buying this pc and it did not run. I was dissapointed about this as I had hoped it would be able to run some games. Other than that issue, everything is great, the Wireless card is great and fast, the inbuilt camera is nice. I would recommend that you do not buy this pc if you are a casual gamer, other it is a good purchase.

What's great about it: Doesn't look cheap, 250GB Hard Drive, DUO Processor
What's not so great: Vista
I was very apprehensive about purchasing a laptop with Vista but I was very impressed with this one. First of all, if you don't know much about computers have the Geek Squad clear all the junk off I think they charge like $129.99 or something. It's well worth it because it helps vista run so much faster. For the person who had problems with the internet, there is a switch on the front side to turn off and on the internet. There is three different modes to run the laptop on like power saver, performance , and the normal mode. The batter lasts longer in the power saver mode but the computer doesn't perform as well so some applications will have trouble. To watch movies use the normal mode and to copy discs on to the hard drive use the high performance. For example in the power saver mode discs copy at 8X if you are lucky and in performance they copy at 22X + depending. The "Black screens" occur during the power saver mode or if the computer is left for a time. This is normal, it's to save power! I've had this laptop for almost 3 weeks and I really like it. You can't go wrong on this laptop for the price and the longevity offered by Sony. Sony and Toshiba are the Luxury cars so to speak of Laptops.

What's great about it: Great deal! Works great. Love it!
What's not so great: Wireless is picky, but can be worked out.
This is my 2nd Sony laptop. Last one is still running after 7 years but obviously outdated. Loved that one and I am loving this one. Picture is quality. Great graphics. Not crazy bout Vista but there is no choice there anymore. Wireless can be picky but I worked it out. It was on sale, great deal and I have no problems so far and don't expect any. I love my Sony products!

What's not so great: setting up the wireless, video
this laptop is awesome. its fast, nice looking, light, and has a great screen. the camera takes great pictures in good light but the video only goes up to 1 minute and it skips after recording. the wireless was a bit of a pain to set up at first but after i got it working it is very fast. id recommed this to anyone who likes multimedia and has alot of work to do, its perfect for any college student.

What's great about it: Screen, speed and wireless
What's not so great: Battery Life
This is my first laptop. I'd heard that they were great and indeed it's everything I expected. My only objection has been the battery life. The standard battery just doesn't last long enough. I don't think I could make it through a DVD. I plan on getting the extended battery and we'll see how it goes. Overall great reccomended computer.

What's not so great: Everything
This Sony has nothing but problems. It can't find the internet, I can see the internet,, it is runnning on the machine next to the Sony on my desk. Wireless does not work, Ethernet does not work. And Windows Vista is miserable, What is snapfish/fire, I just want to see my pictures, I don't want to read End User agreements. And more on Vista, when you burn to DVD, they do not appear to be readable on older machines, keeps giving disk not recognized errors. This was a poor choice for a Christmas Present. I am going to return it this weekend and buy a MAC.

What's great about it: Looks nice, works very silent and fast
What's not so great: Bluetooth, place of plug in.
I got this laptop week a go and so far I really liked it. It is very fast and works very silent. Battery seems allright but it takes a lot of time to charge it up. Graphics are not very satisfied. FZ series looks nice. Black and gray color fits together. Nice screen, but bluetooth is missing. Built-in camere should have be 2 megapixels. Price for that computer is reasonable.

What's not so great: nothing so far
This laptop exceeded my expectations.
It is nice and fast (I had all the junkware removed, first)
I was able to download all my graph/web design software without a problem.
**I store all my files on a portable hard drive so that I can alternate between my computers**
the screen is a nice size and it only weighs 5.9lbs....not bad

What's great about it: Dual proc Santa Rosa platform, DVD burner, 2 GB RAM, Intel 4965 WGN worthwhile
What's not so great: 4200 rpm HDD, Intel GMA X3100 is not enough
This laptop looks great at first, but it has so many useless software from Sony in it. Some of them load at the startup which slows down the already slow Windows Vista Home Premium installed in it. 2 GB RAM that Sony put in it can't really help, it takes almost 3 minutes to boot up (I have to uninstalled bunch of stuff, including Windows Aero to be able to boot it up under 2 minutes). To give a fair shake, it's fast when shutting down, but who cares??
If you plan to do graphic intensive processing (such as Adobe Photoshop or Premiere), Intel GMA X3100 doesn't really work well. My new 20 inch LCD monitor that is extended using VGA adapter seems foggy, unless you lowered the resolution (instead of 1680x1050 go with 1200x800) but again, what's the point? (Btw, I tested this VGA extension using 3 different kind of monitors at my office, all of them are foggy as well, so don't blame the LCD monitor)
On top of that, the 4200 rpm HDD is really2 a big lackluster? Why would SONY put this slow HDD in this laptop? (and I believed this laptop is not on closeout sale, since it's using the new SantaRosa platform) If we use laptops, we know we don't need 250GB with 4200 rpm, 100 GB with 7200 rpm works fine. External HDD is cheap nowadays anyway.

What's great about it: Very fast, very light, sturdy
What's not so great: Position of USB ports, no Bluetooth
Very high quality construction, very nice screen, very fast.
I would highly recommend.
The only thing that I really dislike, and this seems a little nit picky, is the placement of the USB ports, there are only two and they are on the right side close to the front, the USB cable/connector gets in the way of using an external mouse. There should be another port or two in the back or the ports, on the side, should be positioned closer to the back.
The other thing I wish it had was Bluetooth.
