I bought this for a desktop printer in the office. I needed something inexpensieve, and was surprised how fast it was for the $ amount I spent. A good little printer.

What's great about it: Cheap, may be good if quality is not an issue
What's not so great: Poor quality, drivers don't work
It started leaving toner specks after the second page I printed. The toner wasn't even fused to the paper. It transferred to the back of another sheet when I stacked them. I decided to give it one more shot, and it quit printing all together! Troubleshooting ended with "Call technical support." Too much trouble for me. I'm going to exchange it for a different model.

What's great about it: purchased 2 of these for my home - one mac computer that would not work with the hp series we had - this works perfect
What's not so great: all good
love my previous hp printer but has an issue with that model and a new mac laptop. checked out all reviews on this model and appeared to work ok with the macs - so purchased two on a great sale. love them - not issues at all.

What's great about it: faster than an atomic waterslide
What's not so great: can't find out how to make changes
l bought a laser printer because it was on sale ($99) and l only need B+W, not color. l usually use the ink saver feature (econo mode) and though a little light, l don't really need perfect prints for most of my casual printing. one suggestion l have heeded is to plug in the printer to the computer BEFORE turning it on. my last HP malfunctioned maybe because l didn't do this (once burned, twice shy). l have made maybe 100 prints so far and am hoping to get more than the 250 they suggested l might get out of the cartridge that came with it. l don't look forward to buying a new one, and since l just use it half of a year, l am thinking of storing the cartridge in my refrigerator crisper during the down months. crazy? no. now if l could just figure out how to cancel a printing l accidentally sent, l'd be all set.

What's great about it: Easy to set up on Mac and Window XP computers, price is good
What's not so great: driver is lacking for Window XP...no support from HP...buyer beware
Needed to replace HP LaserJet1020 since bought an Apple Computer to go with my Dell because HP does not support drivers for that awesome printer (HP 1020-a real workhorse...just over 2 years old) for a Mac operating system. Read reviews of p1006 and was surprised at so many negative reviews. Now I know why. Although setup was great, printed fast and quietly, I quickly found out that the p1006 printer would not print documents from my Dell (Windows XP) that had jpeg images and a border outside of margins-nothing remotely complicated or challenging. Same document could be printed using the Apple on the p1006 and the Dell could also print it on my old hp1020 (hadn't sold it yet...good thing too). Removed driver, reinstalled and problem remained. Called HP for support and told that it was a software issue and that I would need to pay HP $240 for a software sevice contract to fix my problem on the Dell (even though I could print the same document on my old HP1020...if additionally I paid nearly 2.5x the purchase price for the printer)...long and short...took the printer back...like I said 50/50.

What's great about it: Great instructions on setting up. Very fast. Very quiet.
This is an awesome printer. HP printers rock. The cd that came with the printer shows you exactly how to install the printer. For non-techies like myself, it was great.
It is very easy to load the paper. Another nice feature is that it shoots out the first piece of paper very quickly when it is in energy conservation mode.

I print off shipping labels mainly for eBay and recipets for my customers. I fix computers for a living and deal with a lot of stuff. I liked this printer so much I bought my fiance one too since she just started selling Avon,haha!
I print about 10 to 30 pages a day and it would suck if I had an inkjet. Who needs color anyway?! I do have an inkjet but have never printed with it. I just use it for the scanner,lol. The P1006 is the best laserjet for the money and it's so cute too with it's tiny footprint. It fits anywhere. Make sure you go directly to HP's website to download the lastest drivers!

What's great about it: it's an HP laser printer
What's not so great: the printer driver is apparenlty buggy, 2 of 3 users are having print issues
it looks like there are print driver issues with this printer in Win7 64bit at this point. 2 of the 3 users we gave these printers are having problems getting stuff to print.
As with my previous HP printer purchases are the hardware is solid. If HP can get the driver issues resolved I'm get it would be a great printer.

What's great about it: Two years later and I just now am changing the toner
What's not so great: Will not accomodate wider than letter/legal paper
I do not print an excessive amount of documents but probably more than most. It took two years to deplete the toner cartridge that came with the printer. The quality is great too, when I print tickets or coupons usually I'm the only person in line whose bar code is clear enough that the scanner has no trouble reading it. This is true even in economode with cheap copy paper.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great little printer to have at your desk for one-off, maybe private prints you don't want going down the hall to the network printer. I love it -- it's fast and very convenient and doesn't take up a lot of space.

Loved my old LaserJet 1012. New LaserJet P1006 very disappointing and unreliable. First one dead out of box. Second one has given me lots of trouble. Constant print errors. Reinstalled printer driver multiple times. Cartridge also seems to have short life

I have having the worst time trying to install this printer, I have a HP Photo Printer installed and it works just fine, My camera works just fine but for some reason the laser printer will not work. I can get as far as checking for installed printers and then an error message to plug in the USB cord, I have plugged and unplugged and powered on and off, It won't work at all and I am extremely frustrated, I am to the point where I will have to return it, Maybe it is just a defective printer! Or is it the USB Cord? I can't figure it out on my own.....

Maybe it's my computer, but this printer is FAST! It printed 11 pages in about 10 seconds. It was so fast that I first thought it was shooting out blank pages (until I turned the page over). The quality of the prints was also excellent. The toner cartridges cost about as much as two inkjet cartriges, but print about 1500 pages. I find this very economical. Try it, its great!!!!
I highly recommend it.

What's not so great: Tech Support, print quality, NO OWNERS MANUAL INCLUDED
This printer embodies the old adage that you get what you pay for. I was looking for an inexpensive laser option for my home office. The printer arrived with no owner's manual and a site where multiple volumes of instructions could be downloaded. When I contacted HP about a hard copy of the manual, I was directed to the site. I also had problems printing from certain applications, and HP support was lousy. I was unable to communicate with the representative in English and he provided non-responsive pre-formed responses to my questions. After using the printer for about a month with moderate volume of printing, pages began to streak and printed with lines across them. Removing and shaking the cartridge helps, but this must be done every 7-8 pages or so. It is far too early for the cartridge to have run out, and with no owners manual, I am at a loss as to how to remedy this problem. The printer has proved to be a huge hassle and I would advise anyone considering the purchase to opt for a more expensive (non HP) option.
