What's great about it: Sound is great and quality is good for the price
What's not so great: It's big, bulky and heavy.
The unit was for my wife who wanted something that produced good sound and volume for outdoors when she is working in her three acres of gardens. Previous units either did not have enough volume or broke withing a month or two. This unit is so solid, functional and plenty loud, but she complained almost immediately about the size and weight. She evidently wants to be able to eat her cake!
I would recommend this to a friend!

I did research & read reviews when I decided to buy my personal Boom Box. I love the design of this one. I like that it is a little heavy to move around. I use two hands. I bought it for my work-out room & poolside during the summer. I am really satisfied with my purchase.

Unusual design but has everything we needed...CD, cassette tape, and radio. Nice sound. I wish the digital screen was a bit larger. But overall a good buy.

What's great about it: Great Sound packs a punch, has nice style
What's not so great: The display screen is way to small and needs to be back lit..
This thing is beyond amazing... any body who listens to techno, dubstep,house,rap,or even rock. will love this radio... not to sure why the cassette player is on it... but who knows i might use it ..the center subwoofer with its own light and two bass modes is amazing... and the aux cord is cool cause i like pandora internet radio so i plug it in my phone and jam away.. The only thing i dont like is the display its way to small u can't see it from four feet away. also its not back lit... other than that i love this thing....plus it has 5 speakers...
I would recommend this to a friend!

I received this as a Christmas gift. This thing rocks. A lot of reviews say this thing is big and heavy, yea it is. They put a awesome little subwoofer in this thing to get the sound, thats where your weight and size comes from. A lot of sound for 129.00

What's great about it: Power and sound quality. Features.
What's not so great: Lacks iPod dock, but has an aux line in to use iPods.
I'm more than impressed with this stereo. The power is unlike anything I've had before. I haven't needed to run on battery power yet, but I'm sure it'll drain batteries fast with the power it puts out. I think they should have included an iPod adapter, but the line in jack works fine, since I already had the cable to use my iPod in my vehicle. I thought the cassette player was a useless feature, but I had a chance to use it the 2nd day I had it. Amazing.

What's great about it: The look and playback options

LOVE this stereo, mostly.... It is a very sporty looking radio and I love the added touch of the front lighting up as the bass is used . I love that it came with a remote, has a handle, is very easy to use, allows for CDs and has a cord for audio plug in. My only complaint is it sure doesn't deliver the VOLUME that I thought something THIS HUGE would deliver. VERY disappointed that something this big cant produce more volume. Do note that I am using it in a cafeteria for a dance areobics class, so I think if this was in a smaller contained area, the volume would be fine. However, if it was in a smaller area, size would definitely be an issue. This boombox is HUGE compared to other boom boxes. Now dont get confused with my sound quality rating: the quality is great, it is the volume that I gave it a poor rating. Since it is a large portable stereo, some might find it too heavy to lug around. For the most part it is working how I wanted it to. Mainly it was the look, it being on sale, and it being a Sony that made me buy this stero over others.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Received as a gift. Extremely bulky and heavy. Difficult to carry. LCD read-out washes out. No left/right channel seperation.
Finally, even with a reduced sales price, this product is very over priced!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

OK, my age will show here. I have owned many boom boxes through the years. In fact I still have my Montgomery Wards 8-track boom box as well as a 1980's Sony and a few others.
I am not a big Sony fan but this boom box is awesome. It is not really portable to carry around the streets with batteries due to size and weight, but portable enough to go from place to place and plug it in.
The sound quality is very good and sub woofer bass really pumps out the bass, especially for a boom box. The bass is actually quite clear with little to no distortion unlike many others and this is for almost the full range of volume. The red light around woofer is different and still mixed on it.
Overall Loudness is plenty for a room of average size and is quite loud, again with little to no distortion for almost full volume spectrum. I am very impressed with overall sound quality.
I played an mp3 cd recorded at 320kbps and it is close to being a full disc as far as data written (about 85 songs-685mb) and I played it continually, non-stop. After about 6 hours, this player played every song flawless - no hiccups, skips, retracking, etc...it was perfect.
The cassette player I have not tested.
The mp3 player input is great. There are actually 2 ways to hook up an external player. You can use a built in cord that is about a foot long or so and it works fine, but of course the mp3 player has to be kept very close. There is also an input hole for your own input cord and so you can extend the mp3 player away from boom box. Volume level seems to be a bit lower and not quite as clear to my ears when using an mp3 player, but this is very slight.
I have not tested battery use as to heave this beast around with batteries would get tiring very quickly.
Overall, a great boom box that will not disappoint, but again, it is bigger than most made today #and deeper in width) and is heavy but great sound.
BTW, I paid just under $90 on sale at Best Buy which was an awesome deal.
The display is probably the weakest aspect of this player. Display could of been lighted and larger. The buttons used for the different functions are also weak as far as what does what and trying to figure it out with such a small display can be frustrating at first.
Remote control works well.

I have a Bose Wave radio that sells for $500. I bought this Sony radio after hearing the sound quality. I am a senior citizen and I love my music. I can tell you the quality of the sound and options to change settings and the adjustable bass boost puts the Bose in the weeds. Not to mention it costs 1/5 the price of the Bose. This radio also has an mp3 / ipod aux input. Save your money if looking at a Bose Wave. It is not the best looking radio but the sound makes up for its looks.

What's great about it: Sound! Remote controlled, great feature for a poolside system.
What's not so great: Appearance! A bit gaudy!
I went to Best Buy to pick up a small CD AM/FM radio to use by the pool. After listening to several other models, there was no comparison in audio quality. The Sony XPlod boombox has outstanding sound. Plenty of bass, and bass in reserve as I use the first setting. This unit is a bit gaudy there is no denying that, but if you can get past the appearance, your ears will be delighted! As big as this radio is I am sure they could have opened up a spot somewhere to store the remote in. Thats about my ONLY complaint! Great radio! Having a remote control is a nice feature as well. We can set the remote next to the pool and adjust volume or change channels without getting out of the pool!
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's not so great: radio tuner
Instead of playing actual CDs, I use the CD bin to store my AUX connecting wire.
Anyway, this product could have had a price reduction by excluding the radio tuner since I see no point in radio listening.
