A big deal for a small price
08/25/2008
By Dvsilverwingfrom Baltimore, MD
Pros: Team Fortress 2, Portal, Half life 2, Half life 2 episodes 1 AND 2. All in one small compact, cheap, package. Cons: Internet connection required to play Team Fortress 2.
"First of all, this game includes Half Life 2, Half Life 2 Episode 1, Half Life 2 Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. Half Life 2 has an amazing story line that will suck you in, wanting more. And thats what you will get. Episodes 1 and 2 continue from the Half Life 2 storyline, past tons of beautiful scenery, awesome powerful weapons, super-technologically advanced machinery, and tons of neat enemies and allies. The whole half life series has always interested me, this package is almost the Half Life 2 starter kit, in terms. It also comes with a game called Team Fortress 2, a bit after the release of "Quake" the original Team Fortress mod was developed for it. Then steam released its half-life 1 version of team fortress, named Team Fortress Classic, then as the source engine developed, they started the creation of what we now know as, Team Fortress 2. A class based, fast paced, fun, team deathmatch styled, cartoonish game. It also gets patched or "gets updated" by the "Steam" program that runs it and the rest of the games that come in this pack, so far it has been updated to include "Heavy", "Pyro", and "Medic" achievements. And these games get updated ALL THE TIME, The original Half Life is still being updated frequently! Then we come to the finale, Portal. A game that makes you think with portals, and challenges your brain to find your way around using the innovative portal gun. The portal gun allows you to pick where the entrance and exit to a portal is. Although portal leaves a little to be desired, as it is a short, sweet, and to the point game. This pack also comes with a special edition version of the game "peggle deluxe". Which is a puzzle game, but instead, this game is called "Peggle Extreme". Instead of being unicorns and pony backgrounds, it is Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal background and features. Overall this game is a GREAT buy and worth every penny. I hope you all enjoy this purchase as much as i did, and still do."

Awesome package for such a low price

Pros: Absolutely incredible! Cons: Steam is slow and the games have long load times.
"Team Fortress 2 should be a $40 purchase on it's on. It's fun, fast, and has so much content.
The Half-Life 2 series is a fun game filled with intense action, an incredible soundtrack, an original story, and a lot of clever puzzles.
Portal is fun and witty, but will lag a lot on weaker computers."

"The Half-Life 2 series in this was great! The story line was outstanding! New enemies and and weapons! Portal was one of the best puzzle games I have ever played! A lot of these puzzles were very clever. Team Fortress 2 is also one of the best Online Multi-Player games I have ever played. The coolest thing is being able to be nine different classes. Scout, Solider, Pyro, Demoman, Heavy, Engineer, Medic, Sniper, Spy. All of these classes have different abilities. Play from the nimble scout to heavy fire power Heavy to the sneaky spy. This is a must-buy!"

Excellent Game Collection
06/16/2008
By kebmasterfrom Texas
Pros: Puzzle game, solo FPS, and multiplayer FPS all in one box Cons: Online download of game content tedious
"The plot of Half Life 2 is on par with Half Life, and I enjoyed playing through. Episode 1 and 2 are decent, but nothing extraordinary.
The puzzle game Portal is alot of fun; however, I did finish it rather quickly. But, there are also some bonus levels, plus replaying certain levels as challenges to finish as quickly as possible, with the fewest steps, or with the fewest portals.
Team Fortress 2 of course is great fun, and addictive. As an online multiplayer FPS, it is definitely above average.
Individually, I'd give Half Life 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 each 4 stars, and the Episodes each 3 stars, but as a whole package 5 stars for good value and excellent playability."

Pros: Unlimited hours of play, great variety Cons: requires Steam
"The Orange Box is the single greatest value any PC gamer could purchase. It combines five (count 'em, five: Half-Life 2, the first two episodes, Portal, and Team Fortress 2) amazing titles into one $50 box. As an avid fan of the original Team Fortress, naturally I made a beeline for TF2. With the recently-released Gold Rush update, TF2 is the greatest [free] online game to be had. Portal is a fantastic and hilarious adventure utilizing ground-breaking portal-shooting technology, and as a puzzle game, it's second to none. All in all, Orange Box is a must for any self-righteous gamer."

04/26/2008
By Shiroifrom CA
Pros: 5 great games for the price of 1 Cons: None
"The Orange Box is quite literally the most bang for your buck. There is something for someone in this must-have package. For example, if you're looking for a riveting sci-fi story, you have Half-Life 2 and its two sequels. For the multiplayer fragger, you have Team Fortress 2. If you're into "thinking outside the box" (no pun intended) you have Portal, though I strongly believe Portal is not just for "someone" but for EVERYONE. Also, you don't really need a high-end computer to run and enjoy these games. So what's not to like about the Orange Box? Go get it!"

"The Orange Box is a good deal. It comes with 5 games: Half Life 2, Half Life 2: Episode One, Half Life 2: Episode Two, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. Team Fortress 2 is a really fun game, it gives you a break from all those WWII shooters or modernday shooters."

Great Value Gaming

Pros: 3 Distinct Games Offer Something Different For Everyone Cons: Portal Was A Little Short, Hope To See More
"The Orange Box is one of those games that's hard to pass up. At only $50, you get Episode Two (the next chapter in the Half-Life universe), Team Fortress 2 (follow-up to the job-class shooter Team Fortress Classic) and newcomer Portal. ----- Of the 3, Portal is the most interesting and innovative. Introduced to you in a 'training course' is the Portal Gun which allows you to create a doorway between two different areas when shot on certain surfaces. Walls become ceilings, ceilings become floors in a 3D puzzle game that will leave you reeling in motion sickness if you're not careful! ----- Team Fortress 2 is the much anticipated sequel to the game of the same name, but now upgraded with Source-engine graphics. Each character class now not only has its own strengths and weaknesses, but its own distinct personalities as well. Snipers are cool and calm Aussies, Engineers are good ol' Country Boys, and Pyros are unintelligible who-knows-whats, just to name a few. Wild smack-talk and one liners will keep you cracking up while you frag or be fragged for what I'm sure will be quite some time! The first time you hear the Heavy howl with laughter as he lays down hundreds of rounds with his mini-gun, you'll know what I'm talking about! ----- Not too much needs to be said about Episode Two. If you've already played through Half-Life 2 and Episode One, then you know its just more of the same really. Stuff needs shootin, and Gordon's the one to do it! While there's not really much that needs to be said, that's not to deny the fact that E2 is indeed a very well crafted continuation and deserving of mention nonetheless. ----- What it all comes down to is that 3 solid games are included in a package that would cost more if purchased separately. To me, that means bargin, and when the games in mention are this good- its a value!"

Pros: Best bang for the buck 3 games in for the cost of one Cons: Dont have anyone to gift HL2 or Ep. 1 to
"Valve has given us every reason in the world to purchase this product. First we have the next episode in the wild and exciting world of Half Life. Second we get Team Fortress 2 with is a fun and action packed team based game that will see a ton of playing time for a long time to come. Third and last but not least is Portal. Wow, what an unexpected fun experience Portal turned out to be.
All of these things combined to make a wonderfully fun game that will provide me and my family hours of fun."

Complete set!

"Remember the cliff hanger ending in Episode 1, well prepare to be blown away by Episode 2! Even if you didn't care so much for Episode One... it seemed to drag on at moments, Episode two is a must buy. If offers some new elements to the game, and continues the amazing story even further. Portal is in a class of its own. The replayability is extremly high for Portal, it is really just a game full of puzzles. TF2 is awesome as well, I haven't played this as much, just because my college LAN server limits bandwith so everything lags. But what little I have played of it is fun. The cartoonish characters are a nice break from the uber-realistic games found on just about every other square inch of shelf space in Best Buy. Its a fun light-hearted game. GET THIS NOW!!!"

Pros: 3 great games for a decent price. Cons: Portal is kind of short.
"I haven't played Team Fortress 2 yet, but HL2 Episode 2 and Portal were a blast; especially the latter. Valve has really tuned up the graphics and it shows. Make sure you have a powerful enough video card and cpu to run these games. Portal is really fun but too short! Hopefully Episode 3 will include a new version of Portal to portal through. My rating is a 9/10 or an A."

Pros: Multiple games Cons: no Counter-Strike Source
"I can say that Team Fortress 2 is the star player of this bundle. This is the only game I play, I never get bored playing TF2. I already owned Half Life 2 and HL2: Episode 1 before I purchased Orange Box, but Steam allowed me to gift these two games to somebody else. So even if you have one of these games, you can still share the love. Portal is also a new game, a very fun and challenging puzzle game. It has won many awards, play it and you will easily understand why. You will also receive Half Life 2, episode 1, and episode 2. All in all, 5 fantastic games are featured, and this bundle is worth every cent."

Pros: Lots of games for the money Cons: Don't get if you don't like FPS
"OK, I admit it: I'm one of the few people who had never played Half-Life 2 until I picked up The Orange Box. That said, I can see why people have been flocking to this game over the years. Flat out, it's fun! Better yet, you get 3 full games (HL2, Portal, TF2) and 4 "mini" games (HL2: Episode 1, HL2: Episode 2, Peggle, HL2: Lost Coast). I haven't tried Team Fortress 2 yet, but just the HL2 content has lasted me for the past 2 months."
