I've played all of the Elder Scrolls games and this one doesn't disappoint but it lacks the overall depth of the previous games. The areas do re-spawn the enemies and will get tougher as your character levels up but the quests become dull as the game goes on. The main quest is long but not very fruitful as the story is intersting but not very creative. It feels more of a chore to finish the main story but this doesn't take away from the overall game. Class structure can limit or reward you if you match your character traits to your style of play. Leveling is based upon your usage of a skill, more sword play and you level it up, that sort of thing. The game feels dumbed down compared the previous in terms of skills and upgrading. However, this game does improve on the fighting system, which becomes more of a focus in this game. The character developement through choosing which guilds to join are quite enjoyable with nice story lines to follow and quest items that are worth achieving. The add-ons are worthy as well, with the Shivering Isles being an excellent story.
What's great about it: RPG elements, graphics, ease of play
What's not so great: Not the best story

What's great about it: freedom to chose how your toon grows
What's not so great: nothing

Great game!!! Good graphics, great story, intricate but open maps and plenty of adventure and mystery to be discovered.
What's great about it: Engaging adventure that will always keep you on the edge of your seat.
What's not so great: Graphics can always be better....but to be expected. The graphics are good however.

Great overall game. It's designed to be completely open to the gamer. There are multiple quest lines to follow and you get to any of them at your own leisure. Want a more difficult game?? Start with all the side quests such as Fighter's Guild, Mages Guild, the Arena or the Dark Brotherhood!! Once you get through these, you can attack the Main Quest at a much higher character level which will make your opponents much tougher to beat. I can't say enough about this game.
What's great about it: The detail of the virtual world. It's a massive map and the designers didn't seem to miss one inch.
What's not so great: With such a large map, there are some areas and times when the graphics aren't always on queue.

If you likes RPG video game and then you really should try this. It's a pretty old game, the gaphic is not outstanding in this time. But it has a reason for the game of the year. The whole story is great, and you have so many choices in the game. Also unlike other RPG game, the producer really out a lot of passion into it: you got a huge world to explore. Some other RPG games I played, like Fable, Dragon age, they are ok games, but they got nothing except the main story, it's like you finish the game so fast, and it tiotally disappiont you. But Oblivion is totally different, there are so many things you can do outside the main story line, if you want to play through this game and enjoy all the posibilities, you definetely need more than 100 hours, or much more. It got so many races to choose, a lot classes to choose, and it's just a great game, the game of the year.
What's great about it: great story, great game, huge explorable world, and it's cheap compare with new released games.
What's not so great: haven't found out yet

More epic than Morrowind. i like the ability to teleport to any town from anywhere, once you have been there once. also i like that the enemies that scale to your level (you'll never encounter a challenging, higher level monster) which means that you can wonder around with out worrying if your in the right 'area'.
i have spent over 80 hours and not even touched the main story line.
What's great about it: many quests, great open world and story
What's not so great: can be very long

Bethesda delivers another great game in the Elder Scrolls saga, yet not as "epic" as Morrowind. This is still a great game, but feels less challenging and less rewarding than the previous title due to the ability to teleport to any town from anywhere, enemies that scale to your level (you'll never encounter a challenging, higher level monster) loot seemed more rewarding both in how you obtained it and the stats on the loot itself. I would definitley recommend this game without a doubt. The graphics are amazing, The game world is immense, The story is interesting, you can have tons of fun without even doing the main quest. I just wanted to let people know that I think a lot of the hype for this game was over the graphics, first and foremost, and also the media coverage in the game industry, and from console fanboys.
What's great about it: Graphics, Sound, Length, Story
What's not so great: seems "dumbed down" for consoles, frequent loading screens
I would recommend this to a friend!

I am sorry, but for everyone who says this game is too short is messed up. This game is very long. Way longer than Fable 2 and Fallout 3. The detail is very good for being a 2007 game. I mean come on you can't expect this game to have perfect graphics in 2007 can you?
What's great about it: Very long, many quests, many items, different paths you can take, open world, NPC's have own AI
What's not so great: absolutely nothing

This is one of the best games i have played. It has great graphics and a great soundtrack. It has probably around one hundred hours of gameplay with the main storyline, all of the side quests and the two additional storylines included in the expansion packs adding even more hours of gameplay.

I asked for this game to a friend, and he never recieved it back, i sold it and bought the GOTY Edition:
This is the Best RPG game for your 360, buy it, even if you don`t know about RPGs, this is the best one, you have an open free world to do what you want, have awesome weapons, armor, extra download content, and quests! There is no multiplayer for this game, but that doesent take out its fun, i recommend you and all of my friends to buy it, specially this edition.
What's great about it: Graphics, Story, Music, Freeplay, Download Content.
What's not so great: There is nothing you can possibly you can hate from Oblivion.

This is one of those games where you cannot simply sit for 15 minutes here and there and expect to get the full enjoyment out of it. Expect to play for like 90 plus hours to explore everything, and even then you can go back to a certain place later in the game and there be new enemies, treasures, etc. The ability to do almost anything you want, where you want it and when, it makes for an incredible experience. You can do countless different missions for different factions, all with varylying levels of difficulty, or you can just putz around the entire game and never complete a single mission and it will still be fun (but I'd recommend joining factions and completing missions). So the vastness of the game will keep you entertained for countless hours. The bad parts are the caves, mines, ayelid ruins, and forts. They all look the same for the most part. I mean they are still fun and all, but they LOOK the same, even though theres different enemies in each ones and some special NPC's. The only final gripe I have, and this is exclusive to the xbox 360, are the load times if you have a ton of saves. Its even worse if you are traversion the countryside with a horse, every 10 seconds will say "loading data" and hang for a couple seconds. In caves, towns and such its fine, but can be a big time annoyance when out in the countryside. This is one game where the xbox 360 version is inferior to the PS3 version. Regardless, its still a fun game, and if you enjoyed Fallout 3, youll love this one too.
What's great about it: Vast area to explore, such extreme detail to everything
What's not so great: caves, castles, mines etc all look too similar, load times
I would recommend this to a friend!

for one this game is a great addition to any rpg players collection. i will admit however that i was dissappointed with the short length of the game and the "empty" space in the landscape. it seems its predecessor morrowind had alot more in the world, every corner had something in it to collect, explore, or fight. oblivion is a little short on that side, though it still has the same great gameplay with increased graphics. the main story quest is short, however there are side quests to keep you busy and plenty of guilds to join. they also have an arena to fight in to earn money, great place to start the game. there are also expansions that add items and there are quests for the different dieties you can do, one of the best though not nessecary is the quest that grants you a skeleton key (a lock pick that doesnt break essentially). other than that the game really missed out on some of the more amazing features and items in the previous elder scrolls game and this game seems shorter in scope than morrowind. i also found out today that this game is also on ps2 which i did not know. i knew it was on ps3. the game does bring back its customization, and some of the expansions are neat, and the shivering iles will keep you busy for a few hours and the new armor is kind of neat but nothing to get excited about. hopefully we will see more to find and explore in the next elder scrolls game and the landscape isnt so barren with nothing to do. all in all it is worth a buy for the price, it will entertain and awe, but seems to have missed the mark from being what morrowind was.
What's great about it: it is another great RPG game from Bethesda
What's not so great: short and not alot of detail like in morrowind

I have had so much fun with this game. It is full of endless possibilities. The main storyline is great, but ones attention is easily diverted due to all the fun and sometimes challenging side missions. Character progress is essential if one wants to beat the game. Upgrades to character, magic, and skill are all accomplished through performing you core strengths throughout the game. It is an awesome setup that takes some practice, but when mastered, makes for intense and fun game play. I highly recommend this game to all who consider themselves true RPG fans. Note those who didn't like this game, don't understand the purpose of RPG play. They are shallow brained.
What's great about it: Tons of places to go to and missions to accomplish, each time played is different, best RPG of its kind.
What's not so great: Not every place discovered has a story behind it like Fallout 3. Not very many flaws.

This is probably the best game of all time. You can have 200 hours of gameplay on this game and not have finished every possible thing. Another good thing about the game of the year edition is it cost as much as the normal edition, but it has the expansions to so you dont have to pay for those.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition is a must have. 2 expansions are included. The Shivering Isles and The Knights of the Nine. There are many quests and story lines that you can follow such as saving Cyrodill, joining the Dark brotherhood, becoming a mage at the mages guild and more. The enviorment that you play in is simply amazing. There is a lot of detail.
There are a few downsides but the gameplay makes you forget about it.Some caves may have been too dark to see in but thats probably just my tv. I would like to have seen some more voice actors because a lot of the characters had the same voice. The loading screen also took a while for me.
I also recommend that you buy the computer version because there are a lot of mods that allow you to have even more fun.
What's great about it: Good story, many quests, great detail, 3 expansions to play
What's not so great: Some lag and same voice actors
I would recommend this to a friend!
