I hate this thing...

What's great about it: Absolutely nothing
What's not so great: It spits cat hair back out!
"I would love to push this thing right off a cliff. I bought it about a year ago, and during that time, it has become completely useless. I have hardwood floors; the only carpet I need to vaccum is a medium-sized living room rug. I have 2 shorthair cats, so we're not talking about a huge amount of hair to pick up, and I use a hand-held wet/dry vaccum to pick up the hair on my hardwoods. Anyway, when I first got it, I thought it was great at sucking the hair off the rug. But shortly thereafter, things just went down hill - even when the container is practically empty, it doesn't function well. I have to go over the same area repeatedly, and even then, it still won't really pick up the hair. This past weekend, I went to vaccum the rug, and noticed that the vaccum has now started to spit what little hair is in the container back out, leaving more hair on the rug than was there before I started vaccuming!! That's what prompted me to write this review; I've had it. I am now in the process of looking for a replacement. This was NOT money well. spent."

"This vacuum cost more than it is worth. A chep one would have probably worked better. I used all the attachments and still was picking up hair. The pet eraser is a joke. Was trying to vacuum couch and nothing picked up. Scoots hair everywhere has horrible suction. Don’t waste time and effort or the money on this."

"I spend more time unclogging the vacuum than I do cleaning my house. Do NOT waste your money on this product. When using the attachments, I need to use a paper towel to close the tube where the hose comes out of otherwise dirt just flies out of the vacuum and into the room."

"I bought this vacuum, to pick up dog hair and other debris. I did some research and decided on this one. On first use it was amazing...picked up everything...couldn't even vacuum my area rugs because it ate them...amazing suction. BUT then, I went to use it a second time.....needless to say I could vacuum my rugs...even on the lowest setting....the suction was completely gone. So i cleaned all the inside filters...everything, and it made no difference what so ever. Also, there was loud high pitched noises coming from it...sounded like leaks....perhaps bissel made the first vaccum ever that is only supposed to be used once. I went out and purchased Eureka's Boss Smartvac Pet Loves vacuum (the bagged one). This new Eureka Pet Lover vac is the best vacuum I have ever used....literally picks up everything. THe attachments are way better than the Bissell. So to all those reading reviews....DO NOT BUY the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser!!! Buy the Eureka Pet Lover instead and make sure it's the bagged version....bagless vacuums just don't cut it."

The Good, and The Bad

What's great about it: Good Suction, and good pet hair catcher
What's not so great: Packaging, the handle was cracked, thin foam on ends, probably dropped,
"Other then the broken handle, the vac is very good. We have 2 Great Pyrenees both are over 100lbs with log white hair, plus a chihuahua, and a yorkie/something mix.
The vac picks up hair and dirt with ease, and empties very easy.
The long cord is a plus 35' very nice, central plug can make vacuming a 1 plug job."

What's great about it: Wondeful Suction, Picks up what my old Vacuum couldnt
What's not so great: a bit heavy
"I love this Vacuum, I went to use it for the first time and was suprised at first by the suction.. I didnt like that it wasent picking up much when I turned on the power button, however the button next to it I pressed and WOW let me tell you the power on the Vacuum was nuts! It sucked up the hair on not only the carpeting but the rugs as well, than I used it to clean my hardwood floors and it cleaned the corners and everything!!! Cleaning the stairs was a breeze to because the item detached from the base (on a side not the item that did detach was a bit okward and heavy) the turbo brush worked very well (but it did stop circulating at times due to it getting clogged) Overall this is a great vacuum and I am glad we bought this product."

"Bought this vacuum after reading wonderful reviews. I have two cats and a dog. I was in need of getting a vacuum that could handle my cleaning needs. Once purchased it was great, at first. Only after a couple of months it completely lost suction and when rolling across the rug the brush will not spin. The strip that is supposed to catch the hair and then be sucked up by the vacuum, does nothing more than leave a strip of dust and hair on the rug. I will never buy a bissell again. The dirt devil that I gave to goodwill after buyng this may have been heavy, but was way better than this."

"I have A Bulldog and a Shih Tzu .... they are good for everything except when we find Hair everywhere...
I have been looking at a Vacuum that is Pet hair specific .... trust me other regular vacuums dont pick pet hair ....
And Bissell pet hair eraser was my RESCUE!~!~ I just bought this yesterday ... and of coz i spent the whole evening vacuuming my place and I was so amused how well it picked up hair from everywhere... it works great...!!!!
The best part is ... its not that expensive... !!!!!!
TRUST me guys if u have a pet ... this is something u gotta have ...."

"When picking out a new vacuum, we were torn between this one and a dyson. This vacuum was more in our price range, so we went with it. Wow...our carpets look amazing. We purchased it at 8:30 at night and were up vacuuming until almost 10 PM because we were having so much fun with it. I can't think of a bad thing to write about it. It's just that great. Such an upgrade from what we had."

"WOW! What a great vacuum! Not only did it pass the pet hair test (3 cats and 1 dog!), but also passed the Christmas tree test with flying colors. I bought this vacuum the day my tree came home and I realized that my older vacuum just wasn't up to task anymore. It did a great job and I ran around with it doing the rest of the house. One of the things I really like about it is how long the accessory hose is. My other vacuum was also a Bissell, but had a detatchable canister for the ease of stairs. I was worried that I would end up lugging this heavier vacuum stair by stair to clean, but that wasn't the case at all. I parked it at the bottom and the hose was long enough for me to do the entire flight of stairs without ever even knocking the vacuum over or overstreatching the hose. And the pet hair attatchment did a great job on the carpeted stairs as well as the micro-fiber furniture.
And the final test? The huge pile of pine needles once that dried up Christmas tree was finally removed! What a champ this vacuum is! I would absolutely recommend this vacuum to anyone with either pets or Christmas trees that shed on the carpet!"

Waste of money

What's great about it: Great suction for a couple months
What's not so great: Owned less than 6 months before it died
"I purchased this vacuum back in July of this year to deal with a pet hair problem in my home (2 dogs & the old vacuum was barely getting the hair off the carpets). After a little assembly it was off & running. I was impressed at first by the amount of stuff it pulled out of the rugs, but that was short lived. Within 2 months we saw a loss of suction & rotation in the brushes. I have cleaned the filters, cleaned the brushes & I dump the canister repeatedly during cleaning. Still, the motor has already burnt out. The brush only rotates if it's not in contact with the floor. I'm so disappointed in this vacuum. I know things just aren't built like they used to be, but I WILL NOT buy another Bissell after this. For the cost I paid, I shouldn't be shopping for another vacuum 6 months later!!!! Needless to say, I'm biting the bullet and buying the Dyson"

"My Bad for buying this product. I've had it less than a month and it's been in the shop twice. This last time for a burned out motor, yep, that's right a burned out motor. We vac once maybe twice a week, mostly on hardwood floors, the canister gets dumped before it's full, but this device decides to up and die after maybe 4 times? It's also heavy and not balanced properly, my wife is short (4' 11") and it wears her out to use it.
Sorry, I will not let a machine get the better of me, I should have done my homework a bit better. You get what you pay for, next time I'll spend a little more."

"My aunt recommended this vaccum to me and at first I was really happy. Then the second month it began to loose suction. So my aunt told me to clean all the filters, I did and the suction may have increased a little. I have had this unit for probably about 7 months now and it whines and acts like something is caught in the brush, but I can't find anything. I have snaked the hoses and the suction is just getting worse. It makes a great doorstop. I guess it is true, you do get what you pay for, so I am moving up."

"Used this for the first time today and was really impressed with what it picked up. Why? Because I had just swept the day before with my old bag vacuum. I had no idea it wasn't getting all the pet hair up, but with this bagless one, I can see that it definitely wasn't doing its job. The TurboBrush attachment was excellent for the couch, chairs and even the pillows. It's nothing fancy, just rubber bristles and suction, but man, did it get everything. I was even able to sweep my comforter! I've never been able to get that pet-hair-free without washing. I'm definitely pleased with this purchase. I also bought a pack of replacement filters and belts so I'm never stuck needing them in the future."

"Owned 7 months...problems began in month 3 (brush did not turn consistently). Now the brush only turns on highest setting and suction is diminished. Spoke with Bissell customer "service" rep, who said he doubted what I told him about my never having to replace a belt in the first year with any vacuum I owned. He suggested that I only vacuumed "once a month or so" with other vacuums...and was using the Bissell more often.
Overall, I can say that my dissatisfaction with the vacuum is only surpassed by my dissatisfaction with Bissell customer service."

"I love using this vacummn!!! its a joy to see all the crud in the canister, when I first got this machine my husband & I fought over who got to vacummn, we literally raced thru each room to see how much dirt & pet hair was there! I actually saved a baggy full of dirt & hair for my girlfriends to see, pretty disgusting! but more disgusting was knowing all that filth had been in my carpets all along!! I have a new grandbaby & feel much better about the cleanliness of my carpets & my home. Thanks Bissell!"

What's great about it: seems to suck things up
What's not so great: blows dirty air out of the base wand when using the attachments
"just bought this vacuum today and all seemed to be going great, but then i used the attachments to clean the sofa. dirt flew all over the place. i consulted the manual for trouble shooting, and even called bissell to find a solution. here's the thing, when you detach the primary hose from the base hose and put on an accessory, the bottom brushes still spin and suck up dirt- but because you've detached the hose to use the accessories, there is no where for the dirt to go that is being sucked up from the bottom except right back out the uncovered, leading-to-nothing hose. very very frustrating. bissell offers no solution to this problem except, "please keep vacuum placed on a clean surface, so it doesn't blow out dust." i understand their point, but i am not happy with the design, or that blowing out dirt is even ever an option. i finished cleaning by laying the vacuum on its side - this also fixes the problem, but is not recommended - and returned the vacuum the same night. see if there's better luck with the eureka."
