What's great about it: I worked great for a few months
What's not so great: It's a great paperweight!
"I am just going to speak on the biggest flaw that I have found...After a short period of time the brushes stopped spinning as soon as you put it on the carpet. My first machine broke within a month and this latest one broke within 3 months. I believe I saw one other review commenting on this as well, it is obviously a know issue. I bought this product because i have furry little creature running around the house, so I thought this would stand up to her hair....I was wrong. I am taking mine in to the geek squad today, wish me luck... I have never been more thankful that I purchased a warranty, and now I pray they will let me dump this thing and give another one a shot. I can only pray. If you purchase this machine at least get an extended warranty...you will most likely need it."

"I purchased this unit originally in May of 2008 and initially it worked wonderfully. It had great suction and picked up pet hair like a dream, with 2 great danes that is a must. Some of the reviews I read about it said it was too heavy but I did't find that to be true and I have to carry it up and down 4 flights of stairs. After about 2 months of weekly use I noticed that the brush didn't seem to be working. After further inspection I realized that the height adjustment piece had broken and wasn't holding the brush high enough off of the carpet to allow it to spin. The piece is a simple graduated cork-screw which, theoretically, should work but it is hollow and has a press seam in it and it just snapped off half of the piece at the seam. It's not like I was tough on it I just used it. At this point I returned to Best Buy and exchanged it for the exact same one only to have the exact same thing happen to the second one about 2 months later. At this point I exchanged it for a Hoover windtunnel that was priced a little higher. I didn't initially purchase the Hoover because it is a little heavier, the cord is consideribly shorter, and it was more expensive. Overall I liked this vacuum (the Bissell) but apparently it is not designed for regular use. So my suggestion is you could buy this unit if you either don't vacuum very often or if you don't have taller carpet (frize or even a taller plush) that requires the brush to be lifted very high, otherwise I would suggest against it."

"This replaces my former vacuum, which simply could not handle my shedding of my three cats and one dog. It's amazing what this sucks up that my other unit missed. I wish it were a bit lighter, but then it probably wouldn't be as effective."

What's not so great: Loses suction quickly. Can't handle long hair. Belt and some other part have already gone bad with under 6 months use
"I debated between this vacuum and the Dyson animal and wish I had gone with the Animal. I have had the vacuum for 7 months (used it less than 4) and have already had to replace the belt and have to take in for other repairs as it is no longer suctioning and is making a horrific noise. It cannot cope with long hair. However, in all fairness it does work pretty well for pet hair."

"I have 2 shelties and 2 cats, so I have a lot of hair in my house. I vacuum everyday and this vacuum picks up the dander and other gross stuff. I did not realize how much my other vacuum sucked. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with pets."

"My wife and I needed a new vacuum after our old one smelled of burning plastic. After doing some research and reading reviews we picked this one. We have very shallow "hard" carpets and they look fairly clean. We put the vacuum together and gave it a test run. Honestly, we were shocked at how much dirt and filth was in the window. I actually remarked "wow..i wonder if they put dirt in there just to make it look like it really works?"
We use it once a week and it does an amazing job of cleaning. GREAT purchase!"

"I have one dog, a German Shepherd. Her longer hair clogs this vacuum CONSTANTLY. I've tried to work with this vacuum for 6 months. I had to stop yesterday & take the vacuum apart 9 times yesterday to de-clog; there are three different areas, messy & difficult, where this occurs. VERY poor design!! Out the door it goes!!"

"We bought this Bissell today to deal with new carpet fuzz and dog hair. We have two German Shorthair Pointers, and their hair is small and difficult for most vaccums to pick up. This vaccum did a great job! We had to empty the canister 5 times to do all of the rooms due to the new carpet fuzz, but overall very impressed."

"I have had this vacuum several months and wish I had noticed all it's problems earlier on. My husband usually vacuums but after a few attempts he gave up with this vacuum. He kept telling me how bad it was and I didn't believe until I started using it myself. Unfortunately, time has passed so now it is too late to return it. This is just a terribly designed product. My partial list: the area for the cord storage is too short so you reel and reel the cord on, the hose falls off while vacuuming and drags on the floor, it's too heavy, when you clean the dirt cup the dirt falls all over the vacuum/floor and you (I end up cleaning the vacuum every time), while vacuuming dirt spits out the bottom back of the machine, dirt spews out the side hepa filter, you need to clean out the bottom filter which again spits out more dirt, the attachments don't work IF you can pry them off the vacuum (another problem), the attachment hose must be in a certain position when not in use and it falls off causing yet more dirt to fly out of the vacuum and there is a strip on the front of the vacuum (velcro strip) of no value whatsoever, but when it is disengaged it prevents you from adjusting the carpet setting on the machine! This past weekend whiie I vacuumed the carpets with this machine my husband followed behind me with his shop vac to pick up the fluff and stuff that came out of the vacuum or was left behind. I have been in touch with Bissell and they will replace this vacuum with another one - same model so what's the point unless they have made many improvements, This vacuum is a worthless mess - don't waste your money. I am in the market for a new vacuum after just 4 months of having this one. This vacuum spits out so much dirt that I must always dust after using it. Lot's of fun! This isn't just the worst vacuum I've ever owned it ranks as the worst product I've ever purchased!"

"This vac can pick up hair, dust, dirt and separate them into two place within itself (dirt/dust in the center and the outer for all other). The Con here is that you have to empty it frequently, the container is small, it fills up fast with hair.
I can't believe it can pick up so much dirt that was stuck within my carpets that my old vac never had picked up.
The vac is a bit heavy and you can't really use it on the stairs. Although it have a tube and attachments, i find it hard to vac up objects since it's missing a good brush adapter.
This vac is good pet hair and such, but if you are looking for something to clean other things besides carpet, look else where."

What's great about it: lightweight, has great suction, really gets pet hair up
What's not so great: long cord can be awkward
"Really like the vacuum, but missed the cord clip in the box which would have really helped. The cord comes out near the bottom and without the clip to hold it up it is very easy to run over the cord when you go in reverse. I sliced my cord the first time I used it when I didn't realize the cord was under the brush while using one of the tools.
My bad, reading the directions prior to set up would have helped : ("

"While using the attachment for stairs the brush continues to rotate on the bottom of the vaccuum. The first time I used it I put the vaccuum on the carpet and it made a white "fluff" mark. Be careful to only set it on hard floors while using attachments."

"I purchased the Bissell Pet Hair Vacuum two months ago and it is the best vacuum cleaner that I have ever purchased. I read the previous reviews on this vacuum cleaner before I purchased it and I was somewhat skeptical regarding the vacuum's ability to pick up most of the pet hair from a carpet. However, I am pleased to report that the pet hair removal attachment on this vacuum performs very well. "I purchased this Vacume because of the features and the Bissel name was well known. Having used the Vacume for approx. 1 month on a variety of surfaces I can accurately say it is by far the best cleaning system I have ever owned. One small detraction might be for some people it may be somwhat bulky to lug up stairs or the like, but for my situation cost versus performance the "Best Buy" for me !!"

What's great about it: Has a long cord and hose with great accessories for cleaning
What's not so great: VERY HEAVY, does not clean all the way to the edge, squeaking & quick to lose suction, messy to empty
"I really wanted to believe in this vacuum. I have 3 kids under 7, a cat and a dog and I loved the reviews and the bagless concept. I was impressed the first month as it really seemed to be working. The attachments worked great with a nice long hose. So far, so good. Even when the squeaking started at 2 months it still seemed to be cleaning so I ignored. By 3 months it was clear that it was picking up little to none of the pet hair without repeated passes across the same carpet. Now I was annoyed.
As I fell out of love with it I realized that: it doesn't come close to cleaning up to the baseboards; the "pet hair eraser" is a joke - like I want to stop cleaning 6" from the wall; it is stinking heavy to carry up and down stairs; I was never able to empty the canister without spreading dust and dander everywhere; the removable filter inside was equally as messy to clean out; while the HEPA filter reads as clean the "old dog" smell started at 4 months and remains after changing filters and heavy cleaning; after using the hose it doesn't return to it's "new" shape and drags the floor as I vacuum.
Admittedly, I am not a regular vacuum person; I aim for once per week. The truth is this machine has had little wear for how quickly it turned into a lemon. Choose another model. This is not your vacuum."

"This product is amazing! We just moved into our new apartment and the carpets were vacuumed and steam cleaned. When I brought this vacuum home and went over everything that was previously cleaned, the canister filled up with dirt immediately! It is very easy to assemble and it picks up pet hair like nobody's business! I recommend to all- if you don't buy this, you're silly!"

"I bought this vacuum and it broke after 8 months. My husband tried to fix it but we gave up because we didn't like it anyways.
This vacuum was really messy to change the canister and clean the filters. The canister is also very small and fills quickly. My house always smelt very dusty after vacuuming. Don't buy this vacuum!!!"

What's great about it: Excellent Suction
What's not so great: Cheap parts/handle feels akward when using
"First let me say this is an inexpensive vacuum, so some cons are expected. With that said I am very impressed with the suction with this device. I am able to vacuum the entire level of the house without losing suction and not having to empty the bin until finished. We have a large, long hair dog and it does a great job sucking up the hair. The accessories are awesome at sucking the debris off furniture and stairs.
Now for the minor cons. The handle doesn’t feel comfortable when using this machine. It has kind of a hoop handle and to me it could have been designed different. Another minor con it that the hose connections fit very loose and tend to pop off from time to time thus cutting off suction to the brush. I just have grown accustomed to watching it and put it back together when it comes off.
A more major con is the brush turns all of the time. It seems odd that there would not be a cut off for the brush on a model that boasts its accessories for pet hair. When you use the accessories on stairs that brush just spins away even though it just sits there. For the price I can see it not having the option, but as much as this vacuum is used with the accessories it should have been added even if it bumped the price a few bucks.
All this being said I would have still been happy with it until….. After owning it for about 5 months the brush bushings wore out causing a major vibration and making it very loud. I usually vacuum 2-3 times per week (remember a big hairy dog!). The stairs are usually done about once a month. While it may get used a little more than normal I really expected it to last longer. I called Bissell and found out the brush isn’t covered under the warranty. I can understand the belt and filters not being covered, but the brush?! That doesn’t seem right. I will say that “As a onetime courtesy” Bissell agreed to send a new brush out without charge. That was nice and I do appreciate that. I hope the part was just defective and the new one won’t wear out in another 5 months.
In closing, for the inexpensive price it does a very nice job. In fact it does a much better job than our more expensive one. However with a part wearing out so quickly the performance benefit you get is eclipsed by the unreliability. If you don’t need to vacuum often this might work for you, but regular to medium use you may be buying a new one sooner that you expect. I hope this helps."

"I'd rather have bought two "disposable" vacs than this one. It simply isn't worth the money. It has no more power than a cheap Dirt Devil I used to have. I have to go over my carpets several times before I achieve any success. I doesn't draw in hair well on low pile and hardwood floors. I have to hunt the hair out of the edges and corners. Hair constantly gets stuck in its various chambers and has to be cleaned out with every use or you will lose suction. When that happens it makes so big of a mess that you actually need another vacuum to clean this one out (my cheap disposable one that doesn't clog).
The Bissell has a "cute" way of making it seem like the detachable/portable portion of the vacuum makes it better or worth the retail price but it just isn't worth spending a $100 more than your average vacuum. Again, buy two "disposables" before buying this one.
As a matter of fact, I own several Bissell products (two different carpet cleaners, etc, I bought them all at once with the vacuum) and they all have grossly underperformed and proven to not be worth their investment in a very, very short period of time. I have been in contact with Bissell about it. Both carpet cleaners broke within a couple of months, about a dozen uses.
I have bought several vacs over the life of my two dogs (because I wear a vacuum out) and hands down the Eureka Boss upright has been the best I have had yet. I should have just bought that one again but I thought that spending more money would mean a better vacuum."
