What's great about it: sucks up the pet hair VERY well
What's not so great: the empyting cup is rather small
"i bought this to replace my GE...well 2 days b4 gettin this vac i had vac'd, well i got the new vac put together (fairly simple) and tried it out...IT PICKED UP TONS OF DOG FUR!!! its like i never vac'd b4...i really love this vac!!!"

"This machine is great. After my old vacuum died, I purchased a canister...hated it. So I did a lot of research and narrowed it down to this and a Dyson. I like the idea of a Dyson, but tooooo much money right now. It cleans the dog hair wonderfully. I'm very happy with it so far."

"This vacumm is probably the best I have used EVER. I only have one cat and I vacuum almost everyday. I was SHOCKED by how much pet hair this got off of the floor. The tools are great, and it doesn't seem to lose suction, like other vacuums tend to do.
The downsides- the exhaust is hot (no big deal) and the hose is about a foot too short..."

"I've switched back and forth through the years between canister and upright vacuum cleaners. My last vacuum was an Electrolux canister that I paid almost $400 for a couple of years ago. It was lightweight, but left behind that pesky pet hair. Not until I got the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser did I realize that more than just pet hair was left behind! This bad boy really has great suction!!! The attachements are great and I love the bagless feature. My only complaint is that it is heavy. I manage--just take breaks in between rooms. It's worth it!"

What's not so great: None that I have found so far
"This is the absolute best vacuum I have ever used. I owed a Dirt Devil Reaction D2 and it was horrible - so heavy and didn't pick anything up. I have two (2) cats and they shed like crazy so it is really hard to keep up with cleaning. This vacuum picked up every little thing on the rug and made the carpet like brand new. The attachments are great too - especially the turbo brush! I would highly recommend this vacuum cleaner to anyone who is in need of one especially if they have animals but even if they don't."

"I have three dogs and this vacuum works great! I have central vac, and wanted something i could quickly use without having to take out the giant hose of the central vac. I tried it on a room that was just vacuumed with my central vac, and it got a third of a canister of stuff the other didn't! I was amazed! Try to empty the canister often; it's easier and less messy if it's not full. The unit's a little heavy to carry from the 1st floor to the 2nd, but the job it does will make you not mind that at all! I still can't believe that it does such a great job for such an inexpensive vacuum! You will not be disappointed!"

What's great about it: great suction, sucks up everything you didn't know was there, easy to clean and use attachments, not very loud or heavy
What's not so great: isn't very easy to switch to hoses while vacuuming, dirt collects under the dirt container
"I recently adopted two cats and since summer started , they have been shedding like crazy. My old vacuum (Dirt Devil Reaction D2) wasn't meant to vacuum pet hair so it wasn't working well anymore. I searched online and found all of these customer reviews, which were very accurate and helpful. This vacuum does a great job of vacuuming up all pet hair (even cat litter and bits of food), as well as dirt and everything else. The Bissell pulled up so much stuff from my carpet that I had to empty it 4 times while vacuuming my small apartment (I was in awe).
The hoses were a little difficult to maneuver while vacuuming (you kind of have to unwind them) and dirt collects under the dirt container, but those small inconveniences still made it well worth the purchase. I don't think I've ever enjoyed vacuuming before - but now that I have one that works, I don't mind!"

"I chose this vacuum because I saw all the positive reviews on this site. I am happy to report that I am not disappointed. I needed to get rid of my old Bissell Vacuum, but I needed a replacement first. I do not have any pets that run around, but the pet attachment brush adds value nevertheless. I vacuumed a portion of my living room on the low floor setting and the vac picked up a lot, and it picked up just as much when I put the lowered the pet brush.
This vacuum does an excellent job on my carpet floors, and is far more affordable than a Dyson--I have absolutely nothing against a Dyson except that I cannot currently afford one. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone including you!"

What's great about it: Picks up all the dirt, removes pet hair great
What's not so great: Very dirty when emptying dirt container, constantly cleaning filters
"We have two cats and one dog and the dog sheds constantly. We really needed to find a vacuum that could take care of all the pet hair floating around the house. We settled on the Bissell after reading reviews here and on the internet. On the positive side, this thing cleans up hair and dirt great. The attachments work great to take hair off of furniture and the vacuum has plenty of suction to pick everything up. That brings us to the cons though. It has great suction IF you keep all the filters clean and empty the dirt bin constantly. Our house is probably an extreme case since our dog sheds sooo much but you have to empty the dirt container at least once per room. When you empty the dirt bin dust goes everywhere. You have to wipe the vacuum off or suction it off after emptying to get all the dirt off the outside of the vacuum. The reusable foam filter needs to be cleaned constantly, at least once a week. Hair piles up in there and if you dont check it all the time it clogs up inside and you have to dig the hair out. There is also a lot of dust and dirt that goes flying when you clean it out. We have owned the vacuum for about 4 months now and have had to replace the HEPA filter twice so far. The suction of the vacuum really falls off once the HEPA and foam filters get dirty. Another complaint is that pet hair gets easily jammed up in the spinning brush attachment and I've had to take it apart a few times to pull all the hair out so it will work again. If you don't put everything back in right it wont work correctly and the process isn't that simple. For the less mechanically inclined they might not be able to do this procedure. The design needs to be revised in order to correct this annoying problem. The only other complaint is that the curved tube attached to the hose where you connect the attachments can be pain due to the curve when you are trying to clean at certain angles. For shorter users this may not be a problem but I'm 6'4" and I have to bend over constantly to use it on the couch. Overall this is a very good vacuum that with some minor design changes could be great. When you factor in the price it certainly is a good bang for the buck verses the much more expensive units in this category."

"I love this vacuum. I was shocked to see how much cat hair and feathers this thing sucked uo after my first use.The only drawback is when you clean it, you take the plastic cup out and sometimes there is dust and dirt on the bottom of the cup that then falls on the floor. You cant suck it up becuase when you have the plastic cup is removed there is no suction. And on the vacuum where the plastic cup sits there is also dust, so you have to wipe it off with a wet cloth.
But besides that I love seeing my vacuum working and collecting all the hair.
The attachments are pretty neat too.
When using the hose and the vacuum is in the upright position, it has a tendancy to fall over because it has fallen on me as I am down on my knees vacuuming the base boards.
But it is still a great vacuum and much cheaper then the Dysons"

"I spent two weeks trying to convince myself that this vaccuum is ok, and that I can keep it... no success. let me be fair, it does pick up hair and frizz.... but throws a certain amount of them while you vaccum... I was also doing the stairs when litteraly everything flew on me !!! I have no idea where they came out from ! All the frizz end the dirt.... kinda like snow !! I don't even know why this thing has 4.6 out of 5 stars... I decided I had enough... I returned it yesterday and bought Dyson DC25...."

Worse purchase ever made

"Thank goodness I bought the 4 year warranty from best buy on this vacuum. Bought it because it was supposed to clean pet hair. Worked great for 4 months then the brush stopped spinning, checked the belt and everything and it was fine. Brush spins on bare floor but stops when it hits the carpet which is what I bought it for the carpet! And this is with the setting set all the way to high pile carpet. Belt and motor got so hot it burned my finger when I checked it. All it does is spit the dirt everywhere and does not pick it up. Makes a huge mess and now I don't have a vacuum to pick it up with as it will take a couple of weeks to get back from repair. Don't 'invest on this vacuum look elsewhere. This is the second Bissell I got the first one stopped working after 1 1/2 years. Had a dirt devil years ago and that lasted 5 years."

"My wife and I live alone in a fully carpeted apartment with 5 cats. For years we have relied on a 40+ year old Electrolux tank vacuum, and it has performed marvelously. This weekend it finally failed...the piece of plastic on the main tube which forms the handle cracked in two.
I shopped around the web for a good portion of a Saturday, and found this Bissel. It comes highly recommended from other reviewers, and I am writing this to say, believe what you read! This pulled enough hair off a 6x12 area rug in one pass to fill the container! Best part, I had just vacuumed yesterday! The suction powered brushing head works extremely well on the couch, yet its gentle enough that I can put it against my bare skin(wont damage the fabric over time)
My carpets look noticeably cleaner. For an extra $20 I put the best buy "4 year plan" on it, so all in all I think it's a great buy for the money. I'm still going to keep my Electrolux and just rig it, as this Bissel does not have a crevice tool, which is essential if you want to clean a car...but overall, this is a great machine!"

What's great about it: Edge cleaning & contour tools, x-long cord, removable canister
What's not so great: Hot exhaust, extremely short hose, noisy, heavy & unstable canister
"Purchased three days ago and already disappointed for these reasons:
1. Hot exhaust blows horizontally toward user in upright or hand-held mode; uncomfortable but bearable in upright mode.
2. Tightly-coiled and too-short 'slinky' hose means canister must be held when in use, which puts hot exhaust and noisy motor much too close to user.
3. Suction power inferior to previous Bissell models despite powerful 12-amp motor.
On the PRO side:
I do like the contour and edge cleaning tools, which enable thorough cleaning of out-of-the-way places.
Living in farm country, dust and pollen seep into every conceivable corner during planting and harvest seasons; the HEPA filter is a welcome addition to my cleaning efforts.
The extra-long cord save my time and energy since I can vacuum a larger area before moving to a different electrical outlet.
Despite those positive features, I will be returning the vacuum to Best Buy tomorrow. The negative features outweigh any convenience."

"I purchased this vacuum based on all of the reviews. I thought it was worth a try since my two dogs shed badly this time of year. I got it home, put it together and gave it a whirl. It wasn't nearly as noisy as my old vacuum. It got full in no time, but I knew that would happen from the reviews. I was amazed at how well it worked! It picked up all of the dog hair and got my carpet really clean. I would recommend this vacuum to anyone. If you have trouble with it, you must have gotten a dud because it's simply awesome!"

"We were a bit reluctant to buy a Bissell based on past experience but took a chance on this model because of the reviewer comments and high rating. We have had this vaccum cleaner two days now and my wife is very happy with how much dirt and hair this machine picks up- Even after using other vacuums and cleaners. And I am amazed at how great this thing works. The only thing remaining is to see how long it lasts. For now though, we are very pleased with it.
