What's great about it: e-z navigation ease of use What's not so great: cannot think of any
"I have had this for a few months now. No problems whatsoever. As far as the fm transmittor if you are in a area with a lot of good reception of fm stations it might be hard to find a "open channel" for this feature...but it works excellent where I use it at-just search for a fm freq. that is not being used. Routes and reroutes quickly. It finds the satellite super quick. Another nice feature if you are in a unfamaliar area it will locate the nearest emergency location for you (Hospital, Police, Fire). Another nice feature are the modes of the unit car, pedestrian, bicycle. In pedestrian mode you can take the unit with you and it will lead you back to your vehicle or any starting wayward point. Kind of nice feature especially if you forget where you have parked, large sports arena etc... it also has a lot of options as far as what route you want to take. Also has a ton of options for diffrent language, calculator, currency etc...will even load music and audio books. This should be the only gps unit I will own-very happy with the purchase."

What's great about it: Addition of Multiple Destinations, Favourite Places, Bluetooth, MP3 Player, Volume What's not so great: Battery life
"This became another partner to every trip of mine. Perfect one to drive through your dreams without any Gas Station Stops. Bluetooth is excellent and I no longer search for my car in the parking lot with its favourite place feature. I recommend this to everyone!."

What's great about it: wide screen, easy to use, traffic notification feature What's not so great: poor sound quality
"I bought a nuvi 350 two years ago and I'm happy with it, so I decided to have a new one with a wide screen and Blutooth features. I was confused with other models so I bought the Piano black nuvi 760. I found out that this product is getting better and better, very user freindly not complicated at all and has many new features. and it does more than its job. Well done Garmin."

Excellent Unit...05/10/2008
By popstar67from Chicago, IL
What's great about it: Wide screen, bluetooth functionality , Where Am I feature... What's not so great: Signal output from integrated miniture FM transmitter is poor...
"I highly recommend the NUVI 760. Just before leaving on a trip to Canada, I purchased the unit. I cannot tell you how much it simplified my travels. I easily found my hotel, local area cafes, gas stations, restaurants and local attractions. Even in the romote mountains in Alberta and British Columbia it worked great. When the trip was over, it guided me to the car rental area at the airport, rather than just the airport. Wow! The NUVI bluetooth integration to my cell phone is extremely convenient. Caller ID is displayed on the NUVI when a call comes in. So is my entire address book in large letters. No more screwing around with the small screen on my cell phone while driving. The NUVI even displays a large bar graph outlining your cell phone battery level or cellular signal strength. The only weakness is the NUVI FM transmitter. Instead of using the integrated speaker on NUVI (which is sufficiently loud in my opinion), one can have turn-by-turn audio instructions transmitted on any FM frequency. Simply turn on your car radio to the correct frequency, and you will hear the NUVI giving instructions periodically. The problem is that the weak signal usually contains static, which I experienced both on my Ford Expedition SUV as well as multiple mid- and standard-sized rental cars. One cannot listen to a radio station when the car radio is tuned to the NUVI - a very awkward experience to use this type of functionality. It is a good feature for those hard of hearing, but certainly not something that can be pleasing to listen to on daily commutes. I would not recommend this NUVI functionality to play MP3 music on your car radio - you will be very disapppointed with the static. Think of it as a hearing aid and nothing more. The Where Am I feature is fantastic. It quickly tells you where the local Police, Fire and Hospital are located, along with their telephone number. One can press a buttom and call any local emergency service by using the bluetooth connection to ypur cell phone. Alternatively, the NUVI can guide you to these energency facilities. For the purist, I love the ability to know exact GPS latitude and longitude coordinates, as well as exact elevation. This is great for those that like to find that special remote fishing place in the mountains again, or amateur astronomers who need GPS coordinates to calibrate their telescope's computer for precise sky tracking. I have no regrets after spend a sizeable chunck of money on the NUVI 760, even thought may other units cost a lot less."

love it!!05/03/2008
By realtorfrom Appleton, WI
What's great about it: easy to understand, love via points....
"I am a realtor and love the fact that it is easy to understand... I also love that you can see on the screen the upcoming streets, even if you are not using it to navigate somewhere specific. When I am showing more than 1 home, which is usually most of the time, I can put in all the addresses and it puts together my route for me. It has saved time for me as far as putting my route together using an "old fashioned map"!! Thank you for giving me more time in the day to do what is needed!!"

Great Buy04/22/2008

What's great about it: bluetooth calling, traffic updates.. etc What's not so great: fm receiver slightly staticky at times
"After reading several reviews on GPS units... I decided I would buy myself one for my bday. I had narrowed it down to either a Navigon or a Garmin. I had originally thought I was going to buy the Garmin 660, because that was more in my price range... but when I got to Best Buy the sales associate informed me that it had been discontinued and the 760 would be replacing it. The piano black was actually 499 in the store and not 599 as it is advertised here, plus I had rewards points and a 12% off coupon for my bday that took off about 65 bucks. Awesome buy! The first time using the bluetooth with the fm transmitter it sounded great! Although at other times it has been staticky, but its minimal, you just have to play around with the stations and find the best one. I noticed one review said that his Garmin always gives him the same route to go to work. I have been turning mine on on my way to work, just to let me know about traffic. I already know how to get there.. but the Garmin will give you the type of route you specify. I.e. shortest, fastest, etc. Two days in a row I used it on my way to work and both days it gave me completely different routes. I would imagine because of traffic flow. Also, I find the speaker to be plenty loud when just listening through the unit itself, and when using it through the fm transmitter, you would adjust the volume through your radio as needed. Another review also mentioned the fact that it doesn't ding before you are supposed to turn, however, it reminds you several times that you need to turn. It reminds you the moment you get on that street how far before you need to turn, and at least two to three times as you approach the turn. Yesterday I went out for lunch and the restaurant I went to had been closed.. the poi was great in locating the next closest store in that chain. So far I haven't found any big issues with my unit and for 470 dollars I consider it a steal! I am giving it four stars merely because of the static issues sometimes, and thats only because I can't give it half a star. I can't wait to use it on my next out of town trip."

Still Needs a Little04/21/2008
By Shark180from Houston, Tx
What's great about it: Very user friendly; easy to read; easy to carry What's not so great: not as accurate as my previous Garmin unit; speaker needs more clarity & volume
"My previous Garmin was the c550. This was a WAAS enabled unit making it accurate to less than 25 ft. and the built in speaker was louder and had more clariy than my new Nuvi 760. However the 760 has some advantages such as it's thin size and slightly larger screen. The 760 also has the capabilitiy to use direct lat / lon input which the c550 didn't. The customer service at Garmin seems to be great so far. Garmin should consider updating the 760 to being a WAAS capable unit. All things considered, I would give it a 4 star rating."

What's great about it: Fast routing, fast rerouting, easy to use What's not so great: mp3 player doesn't work well, bluetooth needs mic. so the person your talking to can hear you.
"This is a very nice gps. I found it very simple to use. I love the point of interest option that allows you to search for nearby stores. The sat. aquisition is very fast and so is the rerouting feature when you want to make a pit stop or take a wrong turn. I would say buy this to anyone looking for a solid gps. However, if you're buying it for the mp3 player or bluetooth technology, don't waste your money. The mp3 player doesn't work well with the stereo, there is a lot of static. Also, the bluetooth handsfree works well but you need a mic. or something that you can put closer to your mouth, otherwise people can't hear you unless you shout. I don't really care about these features so I am very pleased with this unit and would buy again."

Very capable GPS... and more.04/17/2008
By SA2112from Chandler, AZ
What's great about it: Very fast satellite connection, accurate routing, user friendly...just a great tool! What's not so great: Meh... the cons are few and very minor.
"First off.... and after having used the 760 for 2 weeks, would I buy it again?
Yes.
At a higher cost?
Yes.
Pro: What a leap forward from my Garmin 2720 GPS! While the Garmin 2720 was a great introduction for me into portable, automotive based GPS, the 760 is a much more refined product and is much more capable as well. It locks onto the GPS sats much faster, and paints a route much faster than my previous unit. It maintains its user-friendliness, and adds SD disc expandability, MP3 playback, JPG display (?), paired with my Samsung D900i (not generally released in the U.S.) cellphone easily, provides good call clarity, juggles incoming calls and MP3 playback appropriately... I could go on and on about this thing.
Con: I can't believe I'm saying this... but I get some very minor static when I'm playing MP3s via the 760 wireless FM-send to your stereo linkup. Yeah...terrible, my wonderful GPS device isn't perfect at wirelessly beaming MP3s over FM radio. Jeez, should I take it back?
No way!
Like I said, I'd buy the Garmin 760 again."

Really great!!03/19/2008
By NYGadgetGirlfrom New York
What's great about it: Easy setup, sleek design, compatible with iPhone What's not so great: Could be louder
"Really great standalone GPS unit! This box has a great sleek look, very clean and uncluttered. I needed to purchase this because my new car's factory installed navigation system SUCKS (ps if you are buying a new Mercedes: save your money by skipping the Premium II package, and buy the Garmin instead). I set this unit up in about 3 minutes, and once it actually found my iPhone, the Bluetooth was working seamlessly a few moments later! I was able to make calls right from the Garmin, and talk hands-free without having to use earbuds. This unit is big enough to be easily viewed at many angles, it's super-intuitive and easy to use, and I like the little quirks like saying the name of the store I was going to, etc. I would have liked to have been able to crank the volume slightly higher since I'm expecting twins and doubt they will be utterly silent at all times, but other than that, I am really impressed with this little nav system! Great bang for the buck. I haven't checked out any of the extras on the Garmin website yet but will do so soon. The extras are mentioned in the accompanying documentation by the way but this unit is so easy to use that I bet most people don't even RTFM."

What's great about it: Good size What's not so great: Gets lost sometimes
"It's a great GPS. Makes driving much easier. No more maps needed. The screen is big. Good bluetooth sync with cell phone. The traffic receiver got me out of many traffic jams. The only problem is that sometimes, mainly if sorrounded by tall buildings, in downtown it gets lost or have trouble finding the satelites."

Navigation Aid02/10/2008

What's great about it: large screen, good features What's not so great: data from chip was not good
"The 760 is a great little box. It has the standard GPS features -- I'm here, I want to go there, figure it out, etc. If you have multiple stops between here and there, you can define your own route, and then let the box figure it out. A few reviews below there was a guy who complained that he had several routes he used to go to work but the box only picked one. I guess he didn't RTFM, because routing is pretty easy to do. My big issue is that the supplier for information inside the box (businesses by type or name, for instance) are often miscoded or spelled incorrectly, leading to problems with route selection or way-point definition. The Garmin site has lots of downloadable info packs to help, things like all the rest areas in the country, all the truck stops and weigh stations (if you're a trucker) and these, once downloaded, work great, but Garmin doesn't really advertise their existence. Other than that, the box works great, looks great, could be a little louder to overcome road noise, but still is OK. Me likey. SMM"

What's great about it: Easy to use, bluetooth, Tons of points of interest What's not so great: No actual buttons and a volume dial would be nice
"Very good machine, love it.... used a Magellan Roadmate 700 and 760 until now.... this is far better but miss the hardware buttons for quick changes, like volume. Love that the antenna is internal so it wont break off, and that it syncs to my phone automatically after the first time I paired the two.... also allows me access to the recent call list from the navigation unit while i drive so the phone stays in my pocket. Very well made and worth checking out if you are in the market for a new unit."

Bogus reviews01/12/2008
By NotImpressedfrom Tucson, AZ
What's great about it: good manual route planning, nice visual What's not so great: Poor FM reception, and Bluetooth
"After reading many many magazine reviews I selected the 760 as one of the very best. I was disappointed after about 2 weeks finding many annoying issues. For ex; I have about 8 routes I can travel to work with varying low to heavy traffic. This Garmin selected the same route every time and always the one that was the farthest distance and longest travel time. The fact that it only ever chose one route is rather disheartening. The only way I could enter my other routes in was to select from and to, then put waypoints in that I knew were along each route. The FM transmision is not worth it because who would drive a good distance and leave their FM radio on a station full of static just to hear a voice tell them where to turn, and using the MP3 to add music is annoying like you are just off the channel. The mounting hardware is easy to use but to easy to turn the unit when pressing on the not sensitive enough screen. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because the visual is good. These are just a few issues. I fail to understand why most magazines found this to be the best on the market. If it is then GPS systems are not ready to be sold to the public. I wasted the $580 I spent on this piece of junk. At least I won't waste money on the other junk out there like TomTom, Magellan, Navigon etc. Without getting to technical, this is a quick review."

What's great about it: everything What's not so great: price
"If you don't mind the price this is one of the best gps systems out right now. I tried it out for a 3 day road trip last week. Everything worked very well for me. The directions were suprisingly very accurate and had just about every poi that I was interested in. I used every option except for the bluetooth. Worked great. As an fyi I tested this in the California area."
